19 November 2017 - Jesus Heals and Gives you Strength When you have None - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online

Salvation from hell is a once and for all event in our lives. However, believing in God is a continuous thing we do -
we keep putting our trust in Him again and again.
Jesus is an ever-present Savior. He is saving us every day.
Jesus is our present tense Savior. He is a very present help in trouble.

The Lord Jesus is always at the point of your need.
However the presence of the need doesn’t mean that Jesus will respond to the need.
Sometimes people don’t want others to help them.
We have to invite Jesus into our situation so that He can help us.
Jesus becomes frustrated when He sees our need but cannot help us right away. It’s called the love of frustration.

Spiritual growth means increasingly seeing your flaws and also increasingly seeing the Savior’s love for you.

The Hebrew word for repentance is “Teshuva” which means “a return” - a return to God.
As we become more spiritually-matured, we don’t become more self-reliant - that is an abomination.
We should become even more reliant on God.

When receiving prayer for healing, don’t struggle, just receive it as a gift.
While receiving, do what you cannot do before as a sign of faith -
Example: If you have pain in your wrist, move your wrist by faith.

Israel was not chosen by God because it’s special.
God chose Israel and that is why Israel is made special.
He wants Israel to be an example to the world of what a nation can be when God’s favor is upon it.
Israel’s people are joyful and radiant, they enjoy bumper crops, and they have divine protection - their enemies leave confused.

God’s holiness and righteousness is on our side today because Jesus was punished on the cross on our behalf.

Learn from how Jesus heals the man at the Pool of Bethesda

John 5:1-18 - Whenever the rich and famous of the world travel, their feet invariably take them to places where they are surrounded by other rich and famous people.
However Jesus’ feet always take Him to where there is great suffering and need.
The Sheep Gate was where the sheeps for sacrifice would come into Jerusalem by.
Bethesda means “the house of grace”, and the pool has five porches - the number of grace!
Impotent means without strength. If someone is blind to the truth, they cannot walk. And if they cannot walk they cannot work for God.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus healed a blind man, a crippled man and a man with a withered hand. He did all three on a Sabbath!
In order for the impotent people to be healed during the moving of the water, they have to be able to see it, walk, and have strength to lift themselves into the pool.
This represents the Law which presupposes man’s strength and ability to keep the Law.
The Law promises a lot of blessings but it does not lift a finger to help you keep it.
Grace (Jesus) was attracted to the one who has been probably sick and waiting for the longest time compared to the others.
The man who had an infirmity for 38 years represents Israel who wandered in the wilderness for 38 years because they fought against God’s promises.
Jesus asked the man whether he wanted to be made well, but he replied “Sir I have no man” -
The man’s focus was on the means to be made well, but it’s actually simpler than that -
our eyes should be on Jesus, not on the means.
Jesus is the only One we need to meet all our needs - Our answers are found in Him!
When you see Jesus, that’s walking in faith.
When the Law demands, you must have the strength to keep it. However when Jesus commands, it is an empowerment.
After you take Holy Communion and believe for healing, get up and move like you believe you are healed!
Jesus asked the man to rise and take up his bed (a roll-up mat) because He didn’t want the man to have an opportunity for relapse.
People who are religious don’t see the good, they pick at the faults.
Instead of praising God for the miraculous healing, the Jews reprimanded the man for carrying his bed on a Sabbath.
Instead of asking “Who is the Man who made your well?”, they asked “Who is the Man who asked you to take up your bed and walk?”. They completely missed the point.
Jesus told the man to sin no more in the context of the habitual sin that the man was engaging in before he suffered from the infirmity - It could have been sexual sin (example: visiting brothels) which caused problems in his feet.
God rested after His work of Creation was complete. That’s the origin of the Sabbath.
Man’s sin caused God to work again. Now we worship, celebrate and rest in the Lord on Sunday because we are redeemed.
We rest before we can walk for the rest of the week.

“In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.” (John 5:3 KJV)

“After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches. In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath. The Jews therefore said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed.” He answered them, “He who made me well said to me, ‘Take up your bed and walk.’ ” Then they asked him, “Who is the Man who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?” But the one who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a multitude being in that place. Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.” The man departed and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well. For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath. But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I have been working.” Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.” (John 5:1-18 NKJV)

Grace is attracted to our weaknesses and can work in our lives when we give consent

Grace is not attracted to your pluses. Grace is attracted to your minuses.
The bigger and the more impossible a problem is, the more God loves it.

The Bible is a divine romance. God is the God of Romance.
We are drawn to romance because we are made in His image.

There is nothing trivial in the word of God. Every detail carries a meaning and a value - every name, every topographical detail, etc.

Most of the healing cases in the gospels is to show how Jesus deals with sin.
Whenever healing is needed, there is always a deeper issue -
Sickness came into the world because of Adam’s sin.
If there is no sin in the first place then healing would not be needed.

Nehemiah 3:1 - Eliashib means “my God restores”.
Hananel means “favor of God”.
In John 5, Jesus left the hundred sheep (reference to the Parable of the Lost Sheep) to restore the man (one lost sheep) at the Pool of Bethesda by the favor of God.

“Then Eliashib the high priest rose up with his brethren the priests and built the Sheep Gate; they consecrated it and hung its doors. They built as far as the Tower of the Hundred, and consecrated it, then as far as the Tower of Hananel.” (Nehemiah 3:1 NKJV)

Jeremiah 20:1 - The Sheep Gate is also called the Benjamin Gate.

“Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.” (Jeremiah 20:2 NKJV)

Genesis 43:34 - 5 is the number of grace. We are the Benjamin Generation!

“Then he took servings to them from before him, but Benjamin’s serving was five times as much as any of theirs. So they drank and were merry with him.” (Genesis 43:34 NKJV)

Deuteronomy 2:14 - That generation wandered in the wilderness for 38 years because they didn’t believe in God.
They struggled with God and didn’t allow His promise to come to pass.

“And the space in which we came from Kadesh–barnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the Lord sware unto them.” (Deuteronomy 2:14 KJV)
