5 November 2017 - Rely on Relationship Instead of Methods - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online - Pastor Mark Ng Sermon Notes Online

Never pressurize yourself that you have to be the one to get your family and loved ones to church to be saved.
Learn to let go and trust God about this. You are not the Savior. Our Lord Jesus loves them more than you do.
Hold on to the promises of God that when one in a household is saved, it will lead to the whole household to be saved.

When you receive forgiveness from God you can then have the empowerment to forgive others.

It’s not what you know, but Who you know. It’s all about connections.
You are connected to the greatest Being - the God of the Universe.
For example, if you need a parking lot, pray and ask our Heavenly Father for a lot. You are well-connected!

Be conscious of the favor that you have with God, if not you will tend to wrongly depend on yourself.

Psalm 91:1 - Our God is the Most High and the Almighty. He wants to connect with us in the secret place.
To connect with us, He sent His only begotten Son to die for us.

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalms 91:1 NKJV)

The original plan of God is for Man to rest and enjoy His provision.

God didn’t say there will be no trials or tribulations. But He says that when they come, we can still be of good cheer.

I Peter 5:7 - It’s not about trying not to worry. It’s about focusing on how much God cares for you.
We have a relationship with God which allows Him to be for us.
Always come back to relationship, don’t depend on methods.

“casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (I Peter 5:7 NKJV)

Choose to prioritize relationship over performance

The volume of our heart is too big to be satisfied by this world and its riches.
Our hearts were made to contain Jesus.

God is not focusing on our performance - if He was, He would choose to connect with man by Law and not by Grace.
We should live a life where Jesus overcomes for us. The battle is the Lord’s.
For God to be Almighty God, we have to do zero work. We have to rest completely in Him.

Every relationship needs understanding and acceptance.
God prioritizes relationship over performance.
With your kids, it’s all about how closely you walk with them in their lives - prioritize your relationship with them over their performance.
When you depend on your self-efforts, you will always strain relationships.

God’s goodness will lead us to repentance. Keep listening to the Gospel of grace.
When you keep hearing, good things keep happening in your life.

Don’t pursue riches. It will not make you happy even when you have it.
When you worry and chase money, you will not get it.
Even if you have an urgent and dire need for money to solve a financial problem, all the more you need to pursue Jesus by hearing and hearing about the gospel of grace.
When you pursue Jesus, good things will happen to you.

Good things happen when you shift your focus from self-efforts to the Lord

Genesis 25:26 - Jacob’s name means “to grab” and in his life he depended on his own schemes to grab things, despite God’s promises.
When he would try to cheat someone, someone would cheat him back.

“The second baby grabbed his brother's heel, so they named him Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when they were born.” (Genesis 25:26 CEVUK)

Genesis 29:32-35 - Leah’s problem was that She was focusing on her husband and not on the Lord.
She was bearing sons to try to turn Jacob’s heart to herself instead of Rachel.
However when she stopped relying on her self-efforts and shifted her focus to the Lord, good things started to happen for her.
The name “Judah” is made of the Hebrew letters “yod dalet hei” which means hand (lifted in praise) is the door to grace.

“So Leah conceived and bore a son, and she called his name Reuben; for she said, “The LORD has surely looked on my affliction. Now therefore, my husband will love me.” Then she conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Because the LORD has heard that I am unloved, He has therefore given me this son also.” And she called his name Simeon. She conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Now this time my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi. And she conceived again and bore a son, and said, “Now I will praise the LORD.” Therefore she called his name Judah. Then she stopped bearing.” (Genesis 29:32-35 NKJV)

Matthew 1:2 - Judah’s name is mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus Christ.

“Abraham begot Isaac, Isaac begot Jacob, and Jacob begot Judah and his brothers.” (Matthew 1:2 NKJV)

Worship draws us to the Lord. The anointing upon praise and worship is powerful which softens our hearts and prepares the heart to receive God’s word.

Genesis 49:29-31 - When Leah finally let go of trying to win Jacob’s heart through her self efforts, good things happened for her.
In death, Jacob and Leah were buried together. Rachel wasn’t buried there.

“Then he charged them and said to them: “I am to be gathered to my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite, in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is before Mamre in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite as a possession for a burial place. There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife, there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife, and there I buried Leah.” (Genesis 49:29-31 NKJV)

Guard your heart, don’t allow it to be worried.
Here’s a tip for students: Arrive punctually for an exam, not too early.
Don’t listen to other students trying to predict questions, worrying and panicking.
After the exam, leave quickly without discussing the exam.
You can’t walk back into the exam hall to change your answers anyway. Don’t be worried.
Don’t delay your happiness by only relaxing after the exam results are out. Choose to be happy now regardless of your situation.

II Peter 1:2 - Pursue Jesus, don’t pursue what you need. Say “God’s favor surrounds me as a shield.”

“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,” (II Peter 1:2 NKJV)

Matthew 13:9,12 - The focus is on hearing. When you keep hearing the gospel of grace, you will have abundance.

“He who has ears to hear, let him hear! ...For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.” (Matthew 13:9, 12 NKJV)

Your reflection on prioritizing relationships over methods is both enlightening and thought-provoking. I appreciate the way you emphasize the importance of trusting in God’s grace and focusing on building connections, rather than relying on self-effort or external techniques. Your insights into fostering deeper relationships, whether with God, family, or others, offer valuable guidance for personal and spiritual growth. The encouragement to rest in God’s promises and embrace His unconditional love is both reassuring and inspiring. Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful perspective.
