When Peter Quill learnt from his biological father "Ego the Living Planet" that he was a Celestial - immortal as long as the light continued to shine on planet Ego, he was excited and fantasized about all the weird and wonderful things he would use his powers to create.
However when he realised Ego's evil plans to destroy the universe, Peter was readily prepared to destroy Ego and to give up his immortality to protect his friends and the universe.
Choosing to protect the people he loved and cared about made him happier than the power that he inherited on Planet Ego did.
