20 October 2019 - Deeply Forgiven and Deeply Transformed - New Creation Church Sermon Notes - Reverend Joe Purcell Sermon NotesPraise and Worship Songs performed: 1. Victor’s Crown - Darlene Zschech 2. Because He Lives - Gloria Gaither 3. The One Thing - New Creation Worship We’re not here to preach principles, but the person of Jesus Christ. There are principles but the apostle Paul always taught them under the umbrella of the person of Christ and Him crucified. Luke 7:29-30 - This is an insert by the author Luke. Those who received John’s baptism declared that God was justified in His judgments on His people. “When all the people and the tax collectors heard this, they declared God to be just, having been baptized with John’s baptism. But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of God, not being baptized by him themselves.” (Luke 7:29-30 WEB) Luke 7:31-35 - The people were not responding correctly to God in whatever way He chose to speak to them—both Law and Grace were not getting their attention. ““To what then will I liken the people of this generation? What are they like? They are like children who sit in the marketplace, and call to one another, saying, ‘We piped to you, and you didn’t dance. We mourned, and you didn’t weep.’ For John the Baptizer came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man, and a drunkard; a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ Wisdom is justified by all her children.”” (Luke 7:31-35 WEB) Luke 7:36-50 - The main theme of the chapter is “Who is Jesus?” Earlier in the chapter, Jesus healed the centurion’s servant with a word and Jesus resurrected a boy who was dead—only God can do that. The people were trying to make sense of what was going on. Some saw Jesus as a great prophet, while others had a greater revelation of Him and said “God has visited His people”—they were gaining a sense of what Immanuel meant. The point of the parable is not that the woman is a greater sinner and the Pharisee is a little sinner. Love is the proof that someone has experienced the forgiveness of God. Simon had not experienced forgiveness of sins yet. Jesus said that whoever didn’t believe that He is “I AM” (Yahweh) will die in their sins. The woman was lavish in her love but Simon was upright in appearance but spiritually bankrupt. The woman had no pretext or illusions about her own righteousness, that’s why it was easy for her to receive God’s forgiveness and know what it means to be truly human. All of us need to be forgiven. The world is an orphan crying out, looking for a Father. “One of the Pharisees invited him to eat with him. He entered into the Pharisee’s house, and sat at the table. Behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that he was reclining in the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster jar of ointment. Standing behind at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head, kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, “This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what kind of woman this is who touches him, that she is a sinner.” Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” He said, “Teacher, say on.” “A certain lender had two debtors. The one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they couldn’t pay, he forgave them both. Which of them therefore will love him most?” Simon answered, “He, I suppose, to whom he forgave the most.” He said to him, “You have judged correctly.” Turning to the woman, he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered into your house, and you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head. You gave me no kiss, but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss my feet. You didn’t anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.” He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” Those who sat at the table with him began to say to themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”” (Luke 7:36-50 WEB)

8 September 2019 - Jesus is the Cure for Negative Behavioral Patterns - Pastor Judah Smith Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon NotesPraise and Worship Songs performed: (I missed a few songs before this) 1. Rain Upon My Life - New Creation Worship 2. What A Beautiful Name - Hillsong Worship 3. Communion (My Healing) - Michael Davis 4. Heroes - Bethel Music When we gather as a church, our focus is Jesus and our goal is to share Jesus with the world. Jesus is always the answer and the antidote to every problem. This message is for those who are stuck in a certain belief, thought process, habit or bondage. Luke 23:32-43 - When we don’t like something about ourselves, we project that upon others. We tend to unconsciously find someone that is worse than us in that area of weakness and judge him/her. This is to deflect the problem and make us feel better about ourselves. The two robbers on the cross couldn’t stop stealing until they were caught—it cost them their lives. The unrepentant man knew he was a robber but he thought that Jesus was worse than him—Jesus was claiming to be God. The repentant robber had great faith. He believed that the man suffering on the cross next to him was God who never committed a single sin. The repentant robber died not as a robber, but as a forgiven man. He went to Paradise. What did this man see in Jesus? The two robbers on the cross were in so much pain. Usually when people are in pain, they can only think about their pain. The only thing that can eclipse your pain is Jesus. He can captivate your heart. God doesn’t just remember you—you are always on His mind. God’s thoughts towards us are about how to prosper us, give us a future and a hope. Jesus must have smiled through all that pain as he assured the robber that he wouldbe with Him in Paradise. “There were also others, two criminals, led with him to be put to death. When they came to the place that is called The Skull, they crucified him there with the criminals, one on the right and the other on the left. Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots. The people stood watching. The rulers with them also scoffed at him, saying, “He saved others. Let him save himself, if this is the Christ of God, his chosen one!” The soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar, and saying, “If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!” An inscription was also written over him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: “THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.” One of the criminals who was hanged insulted him, saying, “If you are the Christ, save yourself and us!” But the other answered, and rebuking him said, “Don’t you even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.” He said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when you come into your Kingdom.” Jesus said to him, “Assuredly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise.”” (Luke 23:32-43 WEB) Matthew 27:44 - Matthew’s account records that both robbers were mocking Jesus. There is no contradiction with Luke’s account. It just makes the story fuller. One of the robbers had a change of heart. “The robbers also who were crucified with him cast on him the same reproach.” (Matthew 27:44 WEB) Mark 15:32 - Mark’s account also says that both robbers were mocking Jesus. “Let the Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, that we may see and believe him.” Those who were crucified with him also insulted him.” (Mark 15:32 WEB) 2 June 2019 - It Isn't Over Until You Win - Dr Marilyn Hickey Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon NotesPraise and Worship songs performed:
Some people stay in your life for a Season, some for a Reason, and some for a Lifetime. Dr Marilyn Hickey is almost 88 years old — still healthy and traveling all over the world for ministry. Luke 21:1-4 - Jesus was amazed with the old widow who gave all that she had. Our generous giving amazes Jesus. When yousow your finances as a seed, you will receive a harvest — it will keep bearing fruit. Money is coming your way. “He looked up, and saw the rich people who were putting their gifts into the treasury. He saw a certain poor widow casting in two small brass coins. He said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow put in more than all of them, for all these put in gifts for God from their abundance, but she, out of her poverty, put in all that she had to live on.”” (Luke 21:1-4 WEB) Once, Dr Marilyn Hickey needed US$30,000 to fill up her ministry needs for a speaking campaign in Pakistan. A stranger at the airport gave her that exact amount that she needed when she was about to fly to Pakistan. Sometimes God only shows up at the last minute, but we can still believe for last minute miracles. Your seed has a harvest. The widow’s story is still being told today. Surely she wouldn’t have known that her story would still be used to inspire people thousands of years later. Declare this: My seed and my tithe has longevity. Matthew 15:21-28 - The Canaanite woman had faith in Jesus, that He could heal her demon-possessed daughter. That faith led Jesus to go all the way to the region of Tyre and Sidon. Faith attracts Jesus. Jesus was amazed by her faith. Declare this: The game is not over until I win. Don’t give up — hold on to faith. “Jesus went out from there, and withdrew into the region of Tyre and Sidon. Behold, a Canaanite woman came out from those borders, and cried, saying, “Have mercy on me, Lord, you son of David! My daughter is severely possessed by a demon!” But he answered her not a word. His disciples came and begged him, saying, “Send her away; for she cries after us.” But he answered, “I wasn’t sent to anyone but the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” But she came and worshiped him, saying, “Lord, help me.” But he answered, “It is not appropriate to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.” But she said, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered her, “Woman, great is your faith! Be it done to you even as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that hour.” (Matthew 15:21-28 WEB) Declare this: I need to read the word because Jesus is in the word. It is a living word. Just take one Scripture and don’t give up. When you’re about God’s business, God is about your business. You can receive bad news, or you can change bad news with prayer. As your days are, so shall your strength be. As a believer, you should get stronger and healthier over the years! When she was 23 years old, Dr Marilyn Hickey had a condition called “an enlarged heart”, but she miraculously received a brand-new heart while she sat in a service. Over 60 times in the New Testament, we are referred to as “beloved”. It is not arrogant to call yourself beloved by the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Declare this: I have great faith that moves mountains in Jesus’ name.
