5 Important Questions to Ask When Choosing a Diaper for your Little One and Why We Prefer Huggies Platinum Pants!
(This is an Advertorial brought to you by Huggies.) Choosing a diaper for our 22 month old daughter Maeleth has been a crucial decision for us ever since she was born. We have noticed that a good choice leads to her being happy, while an unsuitable choice can cause her to be cranky. Additionally, it can mean either more rest time for us, or lack of sleep for everyone and more cleaning up due to dreaded unexpected leakages. Furthermore, a suitable choice helps Mae to have healthy skin, whereas an unsuitable choice has caused her to have a nappy area full of terrible diaper rash before! When we are choosing a diaper for Mae, the 5 important questions below are what we ask to help us decide: 1) Is it comfortable to wear? 2) Does it help to prevent leakage of pee and poo? 3) Is it easy to tell when it’s time for a diaper change? 4) Does it lower the risk of getting diaper rash? 5) Can it last through the night? After asking ourselves these 5 important questions, we did some research and based on our past experience with using different diapers for Mae, we decided that Huggies is still our preferred diaper brand. No matter what diaper brands we try, we always find ourselves coming back to Huggies, kind of like a comfortable safety net! Here’s why we feel that Huggies Platinum Pants in particular gets 5 resounding “yes” answers to the 5 important questions above! Huggies Platinum Pants are suitable for children with weights ranging from 8 kg (17 lbs) all the way to over 17 kg (37 lbs) - there are 4 different sizes (M, L, XL, and XXL) to fit little ones at different stages of growth.

10 Toys to Keep Toddler Busy at Restaurant without Taking Out the iPadI understand the dilemma. When we bring our 21 month old daughter Maeleth Sarah Goh out to eat at a restaurant, she gets fidgety and wants to come out of her Baby Chair after she’s done with her food. Since we give her home-cooked food before we eat the food that we order, that ends up being a situation whereby she’s done but we’ve not even started eating. Sometimes, halfway through her meal she gets bored and rejects food. That’s when we feel tempted to pull out the iPad and let her watch kids programmes on YouTube - they are educational and Mae learned lots of words as well as her alphabets and numbers through the engaging shows. That’s the easy way out, but Mae likes to pull the screen really close to her and that’s bad for her eyes. To counter this, we bring along some toys and items for her to play with so that we don’t have to resort to pulling out the iPad. Let’s face it, when judgmental people see a toddler with eyes glued to the iPad, they tend to condemn the parents whether outrightly or silently in their hearts. No one enjoys that feeling of being judged right? In order for the toys to work as a good distraction for a long period of time in a restaurant, I feel that they must fulfill this set of criteria: A) They must be fun for your toddler. B) They must be portable and easy to bring out, taking up minimal space in the diaper bag. C) They must be non-disruptive to other diners at the restaurant. D) They must be safe, clean and non-toxic especially since it’s your toddler’s meal time. E) They must be able to be engaging so that your toddler can be distracted for a long time. F) They must be affordable (Under $25) - To ensure continued interest, they must be able to be set aside as toys that are only to be played while eating out at restaurants - they cannot be played with at home. G) They must be educational and teach your toddler something new. Using the criteria above, I compiled a list of toys to keep toddler busy at restaurant without taking out the iPad. Enjoy it and I hope that some of them work well for your toddler! Eliminate the Fear of Watching Really Scary Horror Movies: Learn the Mental Trick That I’ll Teach my DaughterI remember those late nights as a kid when I would walk through the dark hallways to my parents’ bedroom to snuggle up with them in bed. The air-conditioning would be on so I’d hide under the blanket to avoid the cold. The TV would be on: sometimes it would be screening the news, sometimes a documentary, and sometimes, unfortunately, really scary horror movies. As the terrifying scenes played on, the excessive gore, heart-stopping jump scares from ghosts and chilling screams from victims in the movie made deep impressions in my mind and heart. On those nights where I chanced upon really scary horror movies in my parent’s room, I would kiss my parents goodnight and immediately feel a sense of foreboding: now I had to walk back through the dark hallways to get back to my own room. Every flicker of light, every moving shadow, every weird sound in the night fueled my active imagination. Was there a ghost behind me, in the corner of my eye waiting to kill me? I couldn’t stop the horrific imaginations. It got worse when I was back in my bed. I would cower under the blanket as my safe haven, make sure that my toes were not sticking out from the end of it, and try not to imagine an ugly face staring at me from within the blanket. I would try not to imagine a demon hiding under my bed waiting for me to fall asleep before crawling out to murder me. After struggling to be at peace for a long time, I would fall asleep and most of those nights after watching really scary horror movies I would be attacked with nightmares. Howl-O-Ween 2017 at I12 Katong in Singapore - Our Fun Trick-Or-Treat Adventure(Advertorial) While 31st October is commonly remembered as the Day of Halloween, did you know that it is also Reformation Day which essentially celebrates the triumph of truth over deception? We don't believe in going around in scary costumes and scaring kids to give them nightmares, so as firm believers that good always triumphs over evil, we dressed up as superheroes which we feel best represents what we believe! Upon invitation by I12 Katong to participate in their "Howl-O-Ween" event on 22 October 2017, we visited the mall to experience the festivities for ourselves! Upon entering the atrium area on level 2 of the mall, it was immediately obvious how well-decorated the surroundings were! It's like we were transported into a distant world filled with all sorts of spooky things (and I loved the creepy ambient music too)! My favorite props are the numerous Jack-O-Lanterns strategically placed around the mall. Take a look and see for yourself: Having a Second Baby: Preparedness vs Readiness - Is There a Difference? There are moments in life where we have to take a step of faith and tune out that voice of doubt in our minds. Having a second baby can possibly be one of those moments. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines "Preparedness" as a state of being subjected to a special process or treatment. On the other hand, its definition of "Readiness" is "prompt willingness", and one of the ways it defines "willing" is "Done, borne or accepted by choice or without reluctance". One can be prepared for having a second baby and yet not be ready. Product Review: Philips Avent 3-in-1 Electric Steam Sterilizer and How to Sterilize Baby Bottles!13/10/2017 Product Review: Philips Avent 3-in-1 Electric Steam Sterilizer and How to Sterilize Baby Bottles! As i'm writing this, our daughter Maeleth Sarah Goh is 20 months old. We have been sterilizing her baby bottles using the Philips Avent 3-in-1 Electric Steam Sterilizer daily ever since she was born so it's become so natural and ingrained into our routine. We still continue to sterilize the baby bottles because we want to keep her bottles as bacteria-free as possible and for all the greasy milk deposits to be thoroughly cleaned off. In this blog post, I hope to share with you how to sterilize baby bottles by giving you a step-by-step breakdown on how we do it, as well as what are the products that we use that have worked well for us in the past 20 months. How you can Prepare for your Child's First Night in Toddler BedAs I am writing this, my daughter Maeleth Sarah Goh is 19 months old. In the past month she had trouble sleeping through the night in her baby cot, and would wake up in the middle of the night every night to come sleep on my bed. After a week of this happening, my wife Amilee and I deduced that she didn't want to sleep in a cot anymore and wanted to transition from her cot to a toddler bed. It could be due to her being taller now than before and when her legs kicked the side of the cot, it would annoy and wake her. Initially we were nervous about the idea of transitioning her from a cot to a toddler bed - "What if she wakes up before us, runs out of the room and gets injured, or worse?". We brainstormed ideas on how to prepare for Mae's first night in toddler bed, executed the plan, and everything was very successful - Mae slept soundly through the night (If you're interested, click here to read my post about how we helped Mae to sleep through the night) and woke up safely the next morning, climbed onto my chest and shook me awake. The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was Mae smiling at me :) In this post, I would like to share with you the safety measures that we put into place to prepare for Mae's first night in toddler bed - to clarify, Mae is sleeping on a single sized adult bed. Through this blog post, I would like to share 10 fun activities that we do with Mae at home almost daily, and I believe that these activities either teach her something, or train her in some skills. I hope that your little one will also have fun and benefit from these activities: 1) ReadingThis is a very educational activity and there are so many benefits to it! Mae loves us to read to her, especially books with large pictures! As she is a Peppa Pig fan, she loves it when we read two of her books to her: "123 with Peppa" and "Peppa's Big Day Out". Seeing the characters in the book whom she is so familiar with makes her excited to listen to the books being read. These books are educational: one teaches about counting numbers, and both have lots of characters and objects to teach Mae about. Reading is definitely one of the great activities for 1 year olds to do at home when you're a stay at home parent! |
