14 May 2017 - Live Victoriously by the Present Truth - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online
There are consequences to our actions in this life - If you choose to touch fire, you choose to be burnt.
God cannot change the result of your choice because He has given you the gift of free choice.
John 11:35 - This is the shortest verse in the Bible.
Lazarus died and Jesus was going to raise him from the dead.
Why did Jesus weep even though He knew that He would raise Lazarus from the dead?
Because Jesus knew that God's love plan and dream was for man to live life and enjoy it, and not to die.
“Jesus wept.” (John 11:35 NKJV)
Why did God put the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden?
It was to make a choice available to Adam: to obey God or sin against Him.
If there is no choice, then the gift of free choice is just a farce.
There must be 99% good and 1% evil in order for free choice to be real.
There are more prophecies about Jesus' Second Coming than His First Coming.
The drama that happened in the world's history is because of the spiritual battle between God and Satan.
Why does Satan hate the Jews so much? Because God said that the Promised Seed (The Messiah) would come through the Jews' lineage.
Why is the devil still hating the Jews today and why is he trying to drive the Jews out of the Promised Land?
The devil instigated Cain to kill Abel, thinking that the Messiah would come through Abel's lineage.
That shows that the devil is not all-knowing. Only God is.
He is coming back for the Jews.
The devil's logic is that if the Jews are not in the land, then Jesus cannot return for the Jews.
That's why the devil wants to drive the Jews out of the Promised Land!
II Peter 1:12 - If there is a "present truth", then that means that there is a former truth.
We are to be focusing on the present truth.
The gospel of grace is the present truth.
“For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.” (II Peter 1:12 NKJV)
Luke 9:51-56 - In this present age, we are to bless our enemies, not ask for fire to fall down on them.
The present truth is grace.
What is natural in the Old Testament is spiritual today.
The natural sword (a type and shadow) in the Old Testament is the Word of God (Sword of the Spirit - the antitype and substance) today.
The spiritual is more real than the material.
If it is material, it will break down and is subject to decay.
The spiritual is eternal and remains forever.
The lake of fire is eternal and the devil who is an eternal spirit will be sent there for eternity.
“Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem, and sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him. But they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem. And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?” But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of. For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them. ” And they went to another village.” (Luke 9:51-56 NKJV)
The devil is outplaying his hand - the focus is now on Israel and the Middle East. The devil is obviously worried.
Galatians 3:8-12 - It is agreed upon by most that there are eight covenants in the Bible. The two main covenants are The Law and Grace.
We are made righteous by faith just like how Abraham was made righteous by faith.
“And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.” So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.” But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for “the just shall live by faith.” Yet the law is not of faith, but “the man who does them shall live by them.”” (Galatians 3:8-12 NKJV)
Genesis 2:16-17 - "freely eat" can be translated as "eat eat".
"you shall surely die" can be translated as "dying you will surely die".
Adam didn't die on the spot, but he died after 930 years.
A thousand years with God is one day. Adam cannot live until 1000 years old because God said that he would die in the same day that he eats from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
The present truth for Adam in the Garden of Eden was "don't eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil".
“And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”” (Genesis 2:16-17 NKJV)
A thousand years with the Lord is as one day.
We are the generation of Christians on the Third Day (from AD 2000 - 3000) who are blessed with God's favor.
The church is powerful in the Third Day as compared to the church in its early days.
The Ten Commandments were written on blue sapphire stone.
Sapphire stone is created under high heat.
In the early church there was a man called Ananias. The name Ananias means "God's grace".
His wife was Sapphira (sapphire represents the Law).
They were killed by God.
When you mix grace and Law, the result is death.
When God sent a disciple Ananias to pray for Saul who was temporarily blind, there was no mixture of Law and grace, and the result was the scales falling off from Saul's eyes allowing him to see again.
The first thing Saul saw was Ananias (God's grace).
The only way to get in trouble in the Garden of Eden is to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
The only way to get in trouble with God is to do the don'ts in the present truth of each covenant.
You get in trouble during the Old Covenant by breaking the Ten Commandments.
Hebrews 8:7-12 - God made the New Covenant of grace because He found fault with the Old Covenant - it was perfect but it could not make man perfect.
The New Covenant is different from the Old Covenant.
God says to us "I'll be your God and you'll be My people".
That means that we're not to be like the people of the world.
We are to be healthy, not sick.
The three effects of the New Covenant: we receive fresh new motivations, the power to carry out the new motivations, and God is God to us.
The clause for these three effects to happen: We must believe that our sins are completely forgiven.
We don't need to tell people how to perform the right actions.
They need to hear how forgiven they are!
How to get in trouble in the New Covenant of grace which is the present truth:
By not believing that your sins are forgiven.
“For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second. Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah— not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the LORD. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”” (Hebrews 8:7-12 NKJV)
We are not lying when we speak words of grace to others.
They don't have to deserve it before you tell them good things. Deal with people by grace.
Tell your wife that she's the most beautiful woman.
Tell your child that he/she is the most beautiful, favored, obedient child.
God is not punishing you for committing fornication with your spouse (at that time boyfriend/girlfriend) before marriage.
You don't have to clean yourself before coming to the Lord.
Luke 24:27 - We study the Old Testament to see things concerning Jesus in it.
Sometimes we see Jesus in comparing, sometimes we see Him in contrast.
David has similarities with Jesus.
Moses is in contrast with Jesus.
“And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” (Luke 24:27 NKJV)
II Samuel 3:1 - David was the Lord's anointed - The Lord's man of the hour at that time.
Jonathan was attracted to David and made a covenant with David because he knew that David was the Lord's anointed.
But Jonathan still died with King Saul at Mount Gilboa because he didn't go all the way with David.
Jonathan represents believers who fall in love with Jesus but don't go all the way with Him.
If we are following the old system of the Law (represented by King Saul) today, we will get weaker and weaker.
Jesus is the Lord's anointed today. Follow Him.
Where are we today with Jesus in the context of David's story?
We are like the mighty men of David who are following David but David is still being persecuted.
When David goes back to rule, we will have a place with him.
“Now there was a long war between the house of Saul and the house of David. But David grew stronger and stronger, and the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.” (II Samuel 3:1 NKJV)
Israel's history in David's story:
David killed a lion, a bear and Goliath (Goliath's number is 666, representing man in his most depraved state).
The lion represents Britain that made it difficult for Israel to come back as a nation. That was in the past.
Next is the bear which represents Russia. In the Book of Ezekiel, it talks about Russia attacking Israel. That can happen anytime.
Finally, 666 represents the antichrist which Jesus will return to defeat at the end of the Great Tribulation.
II Samuel 23:8-12 - Joab the general of King David's armies was not mentioned because Joab didn't serve in the kingdom for the king, but for his own agendas.
Are we serving our King today for Him or is it for our own agendas - to get blessings, etc?
When we serve our Lord Jesus and sit with Him, we receive great giant-slaying power as well - to slay the giants of depression, sickness, poverty etc. with the Word of God.
“These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb-Basshebeth the Tachmonite, chief among the captains. He was called Adino the Eznite, because he had killed eight hundred men at one time. And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David when they defied the Philistines who were gathered there for battle, and the men of Israel had retreated. He arose and attacked the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand stuck to the sword. The LORD brought about a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to plunder. And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. The Philistines had gathered together into a troop where there was a piece of ground full of lentils. So the people fled from the Philistines. But he stationed himself in the middle of the field, defended it, and killed the Philistines. So the LORD brought about a great victory.” (II Samuel 23:8-12 NKJV)
II Samuel 23:15-17 - David was longing for the water and the three mighty men heard it.
The three mighty men put their lives in danger to bring the water back for David even when they were not commanded to do so!
That was the extent of their devotion and loyalty to the king.
David poured the water out as a drink-offering to the Lord.
It was not wasting the water. The three mighty men knew the significance of what David did.
A word to all young people: Be kingly in your character. Be magnanimous! If people insult you, don't fight with them, just walk away.
David had great self-control.
“And David said with longing, “Oh, that someone would give me a drink of the water from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!” So the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless he would not drink it, but poured it out to the LORD. And he said, “Far be it from me, O LORD, that I should do this! Is this not the blood of the men who went in jeopardy of their lives?” Therefore he would not drink it. These things were done by the three mighty men.” (II Samuel 23:15-17 NKJV)
The house of the world is getting weaker and weaker.
The house of the Lord Jesus is getting stronger and stronger.
II Samuel 23:20-22 - The lion is a picture of the devil the roaring lion.
“Benaiah was the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man from Kabzeel, who had done many deeds. He had killed two lion-like heroes of Moab. He also had gone down and killed a lion in the midst of a pit on a snowy day. And he killed an Egyptian, a spectacular man. The Egyptian had a spear in his hand; so he went down to him with a staff, wrested the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and killed him with his own spear. These things Benaiah the son of Jehoiada did, and won a name among three mighty men.” (II Samuel 23:20-22 NKJV)
Romans 16:12 - The Lord discerns between who serves Him with a heart for Him and who serves for their own agendas.
The Lord will reward your labor for Him accordingly.
“Greet Tryphena and Tryphosa, who have labored in the Lord. Greet the beloved Persis, who labored much in the Lord.” (Romans 16:12 NKJV)
