When Pretend Play Becomes Dangerous for Your Child - A Christian Parenting Devotional

When Pretend Play Becomes Dangerous for Your Child - A Christian Parenting Devotional

Hi fellow Christian parent! There are natural laws in this world that are true whether or not we want to believe it.

For example, you can’t walk off a cliff and expect not to fall down.

Likewise, there are also spiritual laws that govern this world. One of which is the creative power in our spoken words.

When Pretend Play becomes Dangerous for your Child - A Christian Parenting Devotional

When words are mixed with faith

We are made in God’s image. During Creation, when God said “Let there be light”, there was light.

"And God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light" (Genesis 1:3 AMP)

Similarly when we speak, there is a lower extent of His power to create - to bring to pass something in the near or distant future, whether for good or bad.

“For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.” (Hebrews 4:2 NKJV)

Like the passage above says, when spoken words are mixed with faith, the result is strong creative power.

"Great writer and theologian. I love your work. You are in tune with the Holy Spirit."

- Pastor Dave Hammond, Faith Baptist Church of Myra, USA

"Milton Goh my brother, your insight on Grace has set me free from 20 yrs of addiction. I was a 7 time felon but by the GRACE of God I am now an ordained minister. Here is some of my story: I was saved in Dec 2016 and started evangelizing in July of 2017 as soon as I was released. My ministry has led over 800 to Jesus. I go to jails, rehabs, homeless shelters plus numerous churches! Your notes and sermons allowed me to find rest in Jesus. I was getting tired trying to perform what I thought God needed from me. You have made me realize it's 100% the CROSS and now I go constantly for Jesus but never get tired. Thanks for your wisdom and love for Jesus. May God bless you and your family!"

- Evangelist Michael Clark from Cumberland, Kentucky, USA

"Milton Goh gives common sense insight on often confusing scripture, which is much appreciated in these troubled times."

- Mike Garrett, first Editor/ Publisher for Stephen King and Author of Christian Novel "Innocence Denied", from USA

A child has great faith with strong creative power in their spoken words

You may be surprised at this, but the people who have the most faith are probably little children.

“But Jesus called them to Himself, saying [to the apostles], “Allow the children to come to Me, and do not forbid them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God [with faith and humility] like a child will not enter it at all.”” (LUKE 18:16-17AMP)

Even Jesus affirmed the power of childlike faith. A child is trusting and they have great faith.

The secret of a child's great faith in this account of Jesus healing the epileptic child:

"And when they had come to the multitude, a man came to Him, kneeling down to Him and saying, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and suffers severely; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water. So I brought him to Your disciples, but they could not cure him.” Then Jesus answered and said, “O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him here to Me.” And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him; and the child was cured from that very hour. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you." (Matthew 17:14-20 NKJV)

A child has great faith because they don't have unbelief. You don't need a lot of faith - just the size of a mustard seed (very tiny). But what you need is the absence of unbelief.

"But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways." (James 1:6-8 NKJV)

When I think about it, my 2 year old daughter has always believed that everything I tell her is true and never really doubted what I said.

On the other hand, it’s us adults who have the tendency to be cynical and skeptical because of disappointments and life’s negative experiences. Adults tend to live by sight and not by faith.

When children engage in pretend play, in the natural it is good for them because they practice their communication skills, and work their imagination, etc. It has lots of benefits.

My only concern with it is when a child declares and imagines that he or she is injured, in pain, or that there is a fire in the house.

That is what my daughter does when she engages in pretend play.
She would say “I’m injured. It’s so painful”, or “Oh no, fire, fire, must put out the fire!”.

Such declarations have creative power in them and because of the great faith that children have, that power is magnified, able to manifest what is spoken.

It’s okay if the pretend play is positive, like pretending to have a tea party, or pretending to be rich and having a lot of money (oh yes Mae, please keep declaring that for us), etc.

But if the child is saying things like she’s injured, in pain, or that the house is on fire, it could open the door for sicknesses and accidents to attack.

The devil loves to manipulate us to use the power in our spoken words for his purposes of killing, stealing and destroying.

Children are no exception to this. He won’t spare the cute little kids - he absolutely hates humans without any mercy.

He will resort to underhand methods like gaining a foothold into our families through innocent children who have not received proper training and guidance about the power in their spoken words.

Sandcastles Don't Last Forever

$14.99 $9.99

This is the eBook version.

If you prefer to get the Paperback version (physical copy), you can get it on Amazon here for US$15.

About the Book:

One day when I was singing praises to God, an image floated up in my spirit: a big and beautiful sandcastle being washed away by the waves from the sea. God was teaching me the futility of holding tightly onto worldly possessions because like the sandcastle, they won't last, and one day will cease to exist.

He taught me from His word to focus on Him and by doing so, I would reap great eternal rewards before Jesus' throne at the start of the Millennium. These rewards will last forever and can't be destroyed or stolen.

It is my prayer that the revelations in this book will help you to live with a focus on the things above where God is, fulfill your God-given calling in life, be happier and to accumulate more eternal rewards to your account.

In this Book, you will learn about:

- Heavenly investment advice and the futility of worldly pursuits from a trillionaire in the Bible

- Why God has to reward us in order to be righteous

- When and how God will destroy the current earth and sky to make way for new ones

- The types of fireproof works that earn eternal rewards at the end of time

- The abundant rewards of doing good works while abiding by the non-disclosure agreement between God and you

- The difference between the temporary places of torment: Sheol and Abaddon

- Who is the Antichrist and his name revealed in the Bible

- What is the Mark of the Beast and why it disqualifies its recipients from receiving salvation

- The different judgments at the throne of Jesus Christ and what it means for you as a believer

- How to fulfill your calling and maximize your gifts to receive the best eternal rewards

Testimonials about the contents of this book:

"Sandcastles Don't Last Forever is very well written, its message loud and clear. Milton Goh gives common-sense insight on often confusing Scripture, which is much appreciated in these troubled times. My understanding of the Bible has definitely improved."

- Mike Garrett, first Editor/ Publisher for Stephen King and Author of Christian Novel "Innocence Denied", from USA

"This book is absolutely breathtaking. We don't work to be saved but were created to do good works. I am so energized and excited to know God values our works and we will be rewarded. This is all Glory to Jesus... I cant wait to throw my crowns at his feet and thank him for saving my life!" - Evangelist Michael Clark from USA

"Dear Milton Goh, I truly thank our Abba, Father for the revelations in this book. It is so amazing how I begin to discover important verses in the Bible that I have never read. That instead of following riches, with sleepless nights, and actually shortening our lives, we are just to 'Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ', and 'Love one another'. How beautiful to find out that actually in the Bible there is both 'Earthly or Worldly Investment Wisdom' and 'Eternal Investment Wisdom' according to the revelations here from Ecclesiastes 5:14-17 WEB)!; “It seems like Solomon was not only wise at earning material riches but also at earning eternal riches.” All the glory to our Lord Jesus Christ! God bless you Milton Goh for such a wonderful book!" - Nitta Nierra from Belgium

“Thank you Milton. I have just finished reading “Sandcastles Don’t Last Forever”. It’s such a good book that's filled with God's word. I love it very much. Might read again if I have the time. Thanks so much!” - Mally Chai from Singapore

"I'm reading this book and loving it! The revelations of the Gospel truth shared and it's life applications are absolutely amazing! I give glory to the Lord Jesus for my dear brother Milton for this exceptional resource. I'm gonna keep feeding on its contents and believe God for supernatural breakthroughs as my mind is renewed in Christ!" - Terence from Tombel, Cameroon

“Excellent book!! I enjoyed reading it so much and definitely recommend it! Milton is so gifted and all his teachings have blessed me tremendously! I thank God for people like him. Get this book, it will be worth it!” - Madeleine from SA, “Unmerited Favor” tier patron

Children are never too young to learn how to speak the right way

“Now the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the Nile, and [she, together with] her maidens walked along the river’s bank; she saw the basket among the reeds and sent her maid [to get it], and she brought it to her. When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby was crying. And she took pity on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.” Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a wet-nurse from the Hebrew women to nurse the child for you?”” (EXODUS 2:5-7 AMP)

The passage above is talking about baby Moses being rescued from the river Nile and adopted by Pharaoh’s daughter.

In the passage, the word “child” in Hebrew is “na’ar” which can refer to children from the age of a newborn all the way to adolescence - Here it is used to describe an infant (baby Moses).

“Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], Even when he is old he will not depart from it.”(PROVERBS 22:6 AMP)

The word “child” in the verse above is the same word “na-ar” in Hebrew.

This tells us that our children are never too young to start learning the right way of speaking that’s in accordance with God’s will.

If you are a parent, don’t think that “They’re still young. Next time they will learn it themselves”.

As their parents, we have a God-given responsibility to guide them in God’s ways, especially while they are still under our wing, living under our roof.

Just recently, I told Mae “We must be careful when we speak because there is power in our words. That’s why we cannot say that we’re injured or feeling painful when we’re actually not”.

I’m not sure if she understands me fully, but I will continue to remind her if she still continues with her pretend play of “injured, painful and fire”.

On top of telling our children directly, we can also pray about it.
Ask God to teach your children directly, and to transform them so that they don’t have the desire to engage in negative pretend play anymore.

God loves it when we pray and involve Him in all parts of our lives. No matter is too trivial for Him.

If He numbers all the hairs on our head, then I’m sure He cares about the education and training of your children too.

Christian parents are tasked to groom young kings for the Lord

As Christian parents, we are essentially partnering with the Holy Spirit who dwells in us to groom young kings for the Lord.

All believers are king and priests to God:

“and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (Revelation 1:6 NKJV)

As kings, our words have great creative power. We can decree and declare a thing and it shall be done for us:

“Where the word of a king is, there is power; And who may say to him, “What are you doing?”” (Ecclesiastes 8:4 NKJV)

Therefore we must guide our children how to use this powerful weapon (our spoken words) for good:

“A man’s stomach will be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; He will be satisfied with the consequence of his words. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.”(PROVERBS 18:20-21 AMP)

They need to learn to bless and not to curse. To build up and not tear down. By God’s grace, it can be done in Jesus’ name!
