Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 1

When reading the Book of Proverbs or any book of the Bible for that matter, the first step to receiving God’s Hesed Wisdom is to worship God. If you truly worship Him, you will want to know everything about Him and your heart will be open to receiving whatever He has for you.
Are you a fan-girl or fan-boy of God?

“The [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and the preeminent part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; But arrogant fools despise [skillful and godly] wisdom and instruction and self-discipline.” (PROVERBS 1:7 AMP)

When you have God’s Hesed Wisdom, beauty and glory will be seen upon you.

“My son, hear the instruction of your father, And do not reject the teaching of your mother. For they are a garland of grace on your head, And chains and ornaments [of gold] around your neck.” (PROVERBS 1:8-9 AMP)

Never make a decision based upon greed. Greed takes doesn’t add life, it takes life away.

“So are the ways of everyone who is greedy for gain; Greed takes away the lives of its possessors.” (PROVERBS 1:19 AMP)

Jesus is the Wisdom of God. This section of Proverbs 20-33 is actually referring to Jesus and how He is giving an open call for men to receive salvation and the good life from Him, but the fools and self-righteous people ignore it.
God promises a safe and secure life to all those who live by His Hesed Wisdom.

“Wisdom shouts in the street, She raises her voice in the markets; She calls out at the head of the noisy streets [where large crowds gather]; At the entrance of the city gates she speaks her words: “How long, O naive ones [you who are easily misled], will you love being simple-minded and undiscerning? How long will scoffers [who ridicule and deride] delight in scoffing, How long will fools [who obstinately mock truth] hate knowledge? “If you will turn and pay attention to my rebuke, Behold, I [Wisdom] will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.
“But whoever listens to me (Wisdom) will live securely and in confident trust And will be at ease, without fear or dread of evil.”” (PROVERBS 1:20-23, 33 AMP)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 2

God’s Hesed Wisdom is stored up in God’s word - the Bible.
It is stored up for believers because it takes the Holy Spirit for a person to understand the revelations about Jesus in the Bible.
If you are a believer, God promises that He is your Protector.

“If you seek skillful and godly wisdom as you would silver And search for her as you would hidden treasures; Then you will understand the [reverent] fear of the LORD [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] And discover the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives [skillful and godly] wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He stores away sound wisdom for the righteous [those who are in right standing with Him]; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity [those of honorable character and moral courage], He guards the paths of justice; And He preserves the way of His saints (believers).” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭2:4-8‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

God warns believers against two main types of evil people: The evildoing man and the adulterous woman.

“To keep you from the way of evil and the evil man, From the man who speaks perverse things; From those who leave the paths of uprightness To walk in the ways of darkness; Who find joy in doing evil And delight in the perversity of evil, Whose paths are crooked, And who are devious in their ways; To keep you from the immoral woman; From the seductress with her flattering words, Who leaves the companion (husband) of her youth, And forgets the covenant of her God.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭2:12-17‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

God promises that believers will live long on the earth whereas non-believers who are evildoers will have their lives cut short.
Longevity is a gift from God.

“For the upright [those who are in right standing with God] will live in the land And those [of integrity] who are blameless [in God’s sight] will remain in it; But the wicked will be cut off from the land And the treacherous shall be [forcibly] uprooted and removed from it.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭2:21-22‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 3

“Mercy and kindness and truth” here in Hebrew is “hesed ve emet” which means grace and truth.
Reminds us of “grace and truth came by Jesus Christ” in John 1.
Decide to live by true grace and not by the Law.
“Write them on the tablet of your heart” - under grace, God has written His laws in our hearts.
We are guided by Him through the desires of our heart.

“My son, do not forget my teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments; For length of days and years of life [worth living] And tranquility and prosperity [the wholeness of life’s blessings] they will add to you. Do not let mercy and kindness and truth leave you [instead let these qualities define you]; Bind them [securely] around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart. So find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭3:1-4‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

“Let not chesed and emes forsake thee; bind them about thy neck; write them upon the luach (tablet) of thine lev;” ‭‭(Proverbs‬ ‭3:3‬ ‭OJB‬‬)

God promises that when you tithe in worship of Him, He will bless your finances.

“Honor the LORD with your wealth And with the first fruits of all your crops (income); Then your barns will be abundantly filled And your vats will overflow with new wine.” (PROVERBS‬ ‭3:9-10‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

God only disciplines those that He loves. If you’re going through His disciplining, you can rejoice because you are loved by Him.
Treasure His disciplining because it leads to your profit.

“My son, do not reject or take lightly the discipline of the LORD [learn from your mistakes and the testing that comes from His correction through discipline]; Nor despise His rebuke, For those whom the LORD loves He corrects, Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭3:11-12‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

God’s Hesed Wisdom is the most precious thing you can receive in this world.
As Pastor Prince taught in this first sermon of this year:
when you get God’s Hesed wisdom and treasure it, you will be rewarded with long life, riches, honor, pleasure and peace.

“For wisdom’s profit is better than the profit of silver, And her gain is better than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies; And nothing you can wish for compares with her [in value]. Long life is in her right hand; In her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are highways of pleasantness and favor, And all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her, And happy [blessed, considered fortunate, to be admired] is everyone who holds her tightly.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭3:14-18‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Peaceful and restful sleep is a gift from God.
When you read God’s word, there is a relaxing feeling and you may even feel sleepy because it contains God’s power that gives you true rest.
You don’t have to fear anything from the world because God is watching out for you.

“Then you will walk on your way [of life] securely And your foot will not stumble. When you lie down, you will not be afraid; When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. Do not be afraid of sudden fear Nor of the storm of the wicked when it comes [since you will be blameless]; For the LORD will be your confidence, firm and strong, And will keep your foot from being caught [in a trap].” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭3:23-26‬ AMP)

The upright are believers who have received the free gift of righteousness from Jesus.
The “private counsel” is the leading of the Holy Spirit in our hearts -
He guides us in all matters of our lives whether big or small.
If you’re a believer, your home is blessed.
Pray for true wisdom and humility: that’s how you obtain grace and honor from God.

“For the devious are repulsive to the LORD; But His private counsel is with the upright [those with spiritual integrity and moral courage]. The curse of the LORD is on the house of the wicked, But He blesses the home of the just and righteous. Though He scoffs at the scoffers and scorns the scorners, Yet He gives His grace [His undeserved favor] to the humble [those who give up self-importance]. The wise will inherit honor and glory, But dishonor and shame is conferred on fools.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭3:32-35‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 4

It is wise to prioritize getting God’s Hesed Wisdom.

““The beginning of wisdom is: Get [skillful and godly] wisdom [it is preeminent]! And with all your acquiring, get understanding [actively seek spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation].” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭4:7‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

As believers, our lives will getting better and better. You have a bright future ahead of you!

“But the path of the just (righteous) is like the light of dawn, That shines brighter and brighter until [it reaches its full strength and glory in] the perfect day.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭4:18‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

The secret to receiving God’s healing is to meditate on His word. God’s word has healing power in it.

“My son, pay attention to my words and be willing to learn; Open your ears to my sayings. Do not let them escape from your sight; Keep them in the center of your heart. For they are life to those who find them, And healing and health to all their flesh.” (PROVERBS‬ ‭4:20-22‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Prioritize monitoring your heart and its thoughts, beliefs and emotions.
Everything that you see in your life first began with what was in your heart.

“Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life.” (PROVERBS‬ ‭4:23‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 5

This is how sin is like: It may seem pleasurable at first, but when the consequences of it come, it will be terrible and painful for you.

“My son, be attentive to my wisdom [godly wisdom learned by costly experience], Incline your ear to my understanding; That you may exercise discrimination and discretion (good judgment), And your lips may reserve knowledge and answer wisely [to temptation]. For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey [like a honeycomb] And her speech is smoother than oil; But in the end she is bitter like [the extract of] wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭5:1-4‬ ‭AMP‬)

Steer clear of even places of temptation. Never think that you are strong or spiritual enough to resist the temptation by your flesh. That is the sin of foolish pride.

“Let your way [in life] be far from her, And do not go near the door of her house [avoid even being near the places of temptation],” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

The consequences of a lifestyle of sin is that your wealth and health gets depleted.

“And strangers will be filled with your strength And your hard-earned wealth will go to the house of a foreigner [who does not know God]; And you will groan when your life is ending, When your flesh and your body are consumed; And you say, “How I hated instruction and discipline, And my heart despised correction and reproof!” (PROVERBS‬ ‭5:10-12‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

There is blessing in store when you are devoted in marriage.
God will supply you with the love, passion and attraction for your spouse when you choose to be a loyal spouse.

“Let your fountain (wife) be blessed [with the rewards of fidelity], And rejoice in the wife of your youth. Let her be as a loving hind and graceful doe, Let her breasts refresh and satisfy you at all times; Always be exhilarated and delight in her love.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭5:18-19‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 6

The ant is diligent and has initiative - it knows that it has to work consistently to prepare for the future.
It doesn’t procrastinate or wait until the last minute to prepare its provisions.
That’s the practical life wisdom we can learn from the ant.

“Go to the ant, O lazy one; Observe her ways and be wise, Which, having no chief, Overseer or ruler, She prepares her food in the summer And brings in her provisions [of food for the winter] in the harvest. How long will you lie down, O lazy one? When will you arise from your sleep [and learn self-discipline]?” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭6:6-9‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

These 7 traits best describe the devil. The first sinful trait described is linked to the sin of pride.
That’s the sin that causedLucifer’s fall to become the devil today.

“These six things the LORD hates; Indeed, seven are repulsive to Him: A proud look [the attitude that makes one overestimate oneself and discount others], a lying tongue, And hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that creates wicked plans, Feet that run swiftly to evil, A false witness who breathes out lies [even half-truths], And one who spreads discord (rumors) among brothers.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭6:16-19‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

We are to listen to the godly teachings of our parents, but not if they are worldly teachings.

“My son, be guided by your father’s [God-given] commandment (instruction) And do not reject the teaching of your mother; Bind them continually upon your heart (in your thoughts), And tie them around your neck. When you walk about, they (the godly teachings of your parents) will guide you; When you sleep, they will keep watch over you; And when you awake, they will talk to you.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭6:20-22‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

When the devil (the thief who comes to steal, kill and destroy) robs you of something good in your life, he has to repay 7 times the value of what was stolen from you.
God will restore you 7 times as much for your losses - believe God for that and be excited to receive it!

“People do not despise a thief if he steals To satisfy himself when he is hungry; But when he is found, he must repay seven times [what he stole]; He must give all the property of his house [if necessary to meet his fine].” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭6:30-31‬ AMP)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 7

There are two main contrasting women in the Book of Proverbs: Wisdom herself, and the immoral woman.
Follow Wisdom and it leads to life - follow the immoral woman and it leads to death.

"Say to [skillful and godly] wisdom, “You are my sister,” And regard understanding and intelligent insight as your intimate friends; That they may keep you from the immoral woman, From the foreigner [who does not observe God’s laws and] who flatters with her [smooth] words." (Proverbs 7:4-5 AMP)

When we are tempted to sin, it often comes with many justifications and reasons why it is okay to compromise for that one time - it could be the whisperings of demons.
The way to fend the temptation off is by having God's Hesed Wisdom in your heart - truly understanding that sin leads to death and that its consequences are severe and painful.

"With her many persuasions she caused him to yield; With her flattering lips she seduced him." (Proverbs 7:21 AMP)

The people who were killed were strong in their flesh, thinking that they could handle it. However we don't have to be strong in our flesh - we just need to rely on God's grace wholeheartedly.
Don't ever think that your willpower is strong enough to resist temptation - only through God's grace are we able to overcome sin.
Like Pastor Prince always shares, we need to keep declaring and be rooted in this truth: "I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!".

"For she has cast down many [mortally] wounded; Indeed, all who were killed by her were strong." (Proverbs 7:26 AMP)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 8

Wisdom is contrasted with material riches a few times in this chapter.

““Take my instruction rather than [seeking] silver, And take knowledge rather than choicest gold, “For wisdom is better than rubies; And all desirable things cannot compare with her.

“My fruit is better than gold, even pure gold, And my yield is better than choicest silver.”
(PROVERBS 8:10-11, 19 AMP)

I feel that God is saying don’t focus on pursuing material riches, but instead diligently seek Jesus (the Wisdom of God) in His word and all the blessings of God, including material riches will be added to us.

“But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—” (I Corinthians 1:30 NKJV)

““I, [Wisdom, continuously] walk in the way of righteousness, In the midst of the paths of justice, That I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth and true riches, And that I may fill their treasuries.

“For whoever finds me (Wisdom) finds life And obtains favor and grace from the LORD.”
(PROVERBS 8:20-21, 35 AMP)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 9

Wisdom can be received by simple people. Anyone can understand and receive amazing revelations from the Bible even if they’re not well-educated because the understanding of the revelation is given supernaturally.

Bread and wine is mentioned which reminds me of Holy Communion.
It says “for him who lacks understanding” - could it be that one of the benefits of partaking of Holy Communion is receiving divine understanding from God?

““Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him, “Come, eat of my bread And drink of the wine I have mixed.” (Proverbs 9:4-5 NKJV)

When people insult you, don’t get into an argument or try to justify or defend yourself. It doesn’t make things better.
We can’t please everyone, and there will always be haters. Ignore their non-constructive criticisms.
As long as your heart is right before God, that’s the most important.

When you see evil being done, the right response is not to scold or clash with the evildoer.
Pray for God’s intervention and trust that He can do a better job of serving justice than you can - take care that self-righteousness (trusting in your own efforts more than in God’s ability) has no place in your heart.

““He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself.” (Proverbs 9:7 NKJV)

A sign that someone has God’s definition of wisdom is that they are humble, not defensive when receiving criticism, and are open to learning.

“Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.” (Proverbs 9:8-9 NKJV)

Long life is a benefit of having wisdom.

“For by me your days will be multiplied, And years of life will be added to you.” (Proverbs 9:11 NKJV)

Don’t waste time indulging sinful and fleshly desires for they are distractions that have no benefit and will lead to death.
Instead, choose the way of wisdom which adds life to you.

““Stolen water is sweet, And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.” But he does not know that the dead are there, That her guests are in the depths of hell.” (Proverbs 9:17-18 NKJV)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 10

In this chapter, the significance of the spoken word is emphasized.
The righteous (believers) who are wise understand that their tongue wields the power to produce life or death, and deliberately use their words to produce life.

However, the wicked (non-believers) who don’t possess the divine wisdom of God are careless with their spoken words and unknowingly allow death and destruction to happen in their lives.

We must speak knowing that every word is like a seed being planted that will eventually bear fruit in our lives.

The best thing we can do to change our circumstances is to keep speaking words that align with God’s wisdom - declare God’s word over our lives.

Instead of complaining and cursing ourselves, for example: “Why must bad things always happen to me?”, “This person will be the death of me!”,“ etc, speak His blessings knowing that they are already ours because of what Jesus has accomplished at the cross!

“The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked.

Wise people store up knowledge, But the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.

In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise.
The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; The heart of the wicked is worth little.
The lips of the righteous feed many, But fools die for lack of wisdom.

The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, But the perverse tongue will be cut out.

The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, But the mouth of the wicked what is perverse.”
(Proverbs 10:11, 14, 19-21, 31-32 NKJV)

Another takeaway is that if a blessing in life is from God, there will be no sorrow added to it.
Is there something good in your life that you have but you can’t fully enjoy it without feeling stressed or burdened?
Perhaps it came through dishonesty or dependence on laborious self-efforts rather than on grace.

Ask the Lord to reveal how He can deliver you out of that situation - He can make a way even when there is no way and even if it’s a trouble of your own making.

“The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.” (Proverbs 10:22 NKJV)

It’s so much better to be one of the righteous rather than one of the wicked. It’s easy to become righteous.
It’s not through doing good deeds, trying not to sin, or acting ‘religious’.
One becomes righteous simply by believing in Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.
Righteousness is not wage to be earned, but it is a gift to be received.

We can be righteous today because Jesus already paid for all our sins at the cross and took God’s judgement upon His own body. Thank you Lord Jesus!

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 11

Only humble people can receive God’s Hesed wisdom. Proud people will be put to shame when they realize that they don’t have true wisdom.

“When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom.” (Proverbs 11:2 NKJV)

There is no point having material riches without having the greatest blessing of all: the gift of salvation.
If you don’t have Jesus, you have nothing. If you have Jesus, you will get everything.

“Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death.

He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage.”
(Proverbs 11:4, 28 NKJV)

Are you troubled over what wicked people are doing to you or saying about you?
Remember that God is on your side and He will protect and fight for you - just place your full trust in Him.

Whatever the wicked people have planned to harm you, God will counter that and it will ruin them instead. God is your Shield who covers you - you are not defenseless or alone!

“The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way aright, But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness.

The righteous is delivered from trouble, And it comes to the wicked instead.

Though they join forces, the wicked will not go unpunished; But the posterity of the righteous will be delivered.”
(Proverbs 11:5, 8, 21 NKJV)

By what knowledge does the righteous get delivered?
It is by the knowledge of Jesus and who they are in Him.
Once you know that you are the righteousness of God in Christ, that Jesus has paid for all your sins and you have complete forgiveness with God, you can reign in life with the abundance of grace given to you!

“The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.” (Proverbs 11:9 NKJV)

If you are a believer, pray for your city and nation!
You are God’s mouthpiece by which He can set up His kingdom of earth and be given the consent to carry out His will on earth as it is in heaven.
We all have the gift of free will so God can’t force His blessings upon us.
However if we keep asking for it through prayer, God will surely grant it to us.

“By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted, But it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.” (Proverbs 11:11 NKJV)

Did something or someone trigger negative emotions of anger, jealousy, hatred etc in you?
Choose to understand that God has forgiven you despite the overwhelming sinfulness in your life.
In light of this you can forgive others and hold your peace too.
Those who know they are forgiven much, love much.

“He who is devoid of wisdom despises his neighbor, But a man of understanding holds his peace.” (Proverbs 11:12 NKJV)

After seeking God first, also seek advice from someone or some people you trust who are wise.
For example, my wife is my counselor as well who gives me good advice when I most need it.
Some people are placed in our life by God to help us. Recognize such people and value their advice.
Such people could be your Pastor, cell group leader, spouse, family member, best friend, etc.
It doesn’t mean that whatever they say is correct all the time -
be open to their advice, but always pray about it to God and follow His leading.

“Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” (Proverbs 11:14 NKJV)

When you forgive others easily, you are actually benefiting your soul: your mind, will and emotions.
However when you bear grudges, always plotting evil and taking revenge, you actually harm your body.
Forgive others for your own sake, and especially because we we are all people who are forgiven of much.
We were once sinners who were God’s enemies, but have since received His glorious grace.

“The merciful man does good for his own soul, But he who is cruel troubles his own flesh.” (Proverbs 11:17 NKJV)

God promises that when you share about the gospel of grace with others, you have a sure reward!
It is wise to win souls because you heap up eternal rewards in heaven for yourself - God is most interested in saving people so that carries the best reward you can get!

“The wicked man does deceptive work, But he who sows righteousness will have a sure reward.

The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise.”
(Proverbs 11:18, 30 NKJV)

Generous people will become rich, stingy people will become poor.
God will enrich the generous so that they can continue to give and even give more than before - they are blessed to be a blessing.
Have a generous heart and be willing to share with others, especially with fellow believers for God is very happy when we are generous like Him -
freely we have received from Him, so we can freely give too.

“There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty. The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself. The people will curse him who withholds grain, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it.” (Proverbs 11:24-26 NKJV)

As a believer, you rewards are not only in the future in heaven, but on earth also!
Believers don’t have to suffer and live in poverty on earth. That’s not God’s will.
You can enjoy the good life that Jesus died to give you.
Those who commit evil will also get their negative consequences here on earth, not just when they are cast into hell and the lake of fire.
God is just, let Him be the One to exact justice - don’t be self-righteous or become a vigilante.
You can’t be more just or effective than God Himself.

“If the righteous will be recompensed on the earth, How much more the ungodly and the sinner.” (Proverbs 11:31 NKJV)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 12

From life experience, I realize that many people dislike being told that they’re wrong or that there’s something that they need to change - Their face becomes as stormy as a thundercloud!
I myself included - sometimes when my wife points out my flaws or mistakes, that annoying ego rises up to defend myself.
Since God says it’s stupid to hate correction, I will keep praying for the desire to love instruction and correction!

“Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid.” (Proverbs 12:1 NKJV)

Who is a good man? Any believer is a good person. Not because of what they have or haven’t done, but because they have received Jesus’ righteousness. Dare to call yourself a good person.
We obtain favor from the Lord because we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus!

“A good man obtains favor from the LORD, But a man of wicked intentions He will condemn.” (Proverbs 12:2 NKJV)

Anything built through wicked ways is not sustainable.
Believers are righteous in Christ. A believer may face setbacks in life but they will always bounce back.
They will always be secure and stable in Christ - their root will never be moved.

“A man is not established by wickedness, But the root of the righteous cannot be moved.

No grave trouble will overtake the righteous, But the wicked shall be filled with evil.”
(Proverbs 12:3, 21 NKJV)

Believers obtain deliverance from trouble by praying and speaking God’s promises over their situation!
For example: A believer who landed in debt could keep declaring and believing this, “My God shall supply all my needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” from Philippians 4:9.

“The words of the wicked are, “Lie in wait for blood,” But the mouth of the upright will deliver them.

A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, And the recompense of a man’s hands will be rendered to him.”
(Proverbs 12:6, 14 NKJV)

A true believer is compassionate. Even the life of a pet is treasured. In contrast, non believers are more cruel and cold-hearted.

“A righteous man regards the life of his animal, But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.” (Proverbs 12:10 NKJV)

Believers who have Hesed Wisdom speak God’s words that produce health in their bodies!
Experiencing sickness? Declare: By Jesus’ stripes I am healed and As He is healthy and free from sickness, so am I in this world!

“There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, But the tongue of the wise promotes health.” (Proverbs 12:18 NKJV)

The cure for depression is to keep hearing the good news: the gospel of grace being preached!

“Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad.” (Proverbs 12:25 NKJV)

God loves it when believers are diligent in using their anointing to fulfilling their calling in life.
Diligent believers will be entrusted with positions of power and authority.

“The hand of the diligent will rule, But the lazy man will be put to forced labor.

The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, But diligence is man’s precious possession.”
(Proverbs 12:24, 27 NKJV)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 13

The words we speak produce fruits either of life or death. To guard our mouths means to be deliberate in the words we choose to speak.

“A man shall eat well by the fruit of his mouth, But the soul of the unfaithful feeds on violence. He who guards his mouth preserves his life, But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction.” (Proverbs 13:2-3 NKJV)

The difference between a rich and poor person is the quality of diligence.

“The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich.” (Proverbs 13:4 NKJV)

Without Jesus, we have nothing. Even all the wealth of the world means nothing because it is just temporal.
If we make ourselves poor by generously blessing others using our money, we will have great rewards both in this world and in heaven.

“There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing; And one who makes himself poor, yet has great riches.” (Proverbs 13:7 NKJV)

If you see a wicked person who is materially rich, he or she is just holding on the riches temporarily, storing up those riches for believers.
Earn money using honest means and your wealth will increase, don’t look for illegal and dishonest shortcuts.

A believer will be blessed with more than enough assets to pass it on to his descendants. That wealth will span generations without diminishing.

“Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, But he who gathers by labor will increase.

A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.” (Proverbs 13:11, 22 NKJV)

Choose your future spouse and friends wisely because it may mean either gaining wisdom or being destroyed!

“He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed.” (Proverbs 13:20 NKJV)

We discipline our children promptly when they sin not to vent our own anger but to correct misbehavior.
This is so that they won’t stray onto the wrong path and suffer worse consequences in the future - it is for their own good.
When disciplining your child by caning on the buttocks, remember that you’re doing it out of love and for correction.
Don’t cane your children just because you feel angry or irritated by their harmless actions - that’s abuse.

“He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.” (Proverbs 13:24 NKJV)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 14

Oxen brings to mind the burnt offering that is offered under the Law.
The sacrificial ox is a shadow of the true substance which is Jesus Himself who was given as our perfect offering on the cross.
What I get from this verse is: when there is no preaching or revelation of Jesus, there is no fruit.
But when we listen to or read messages that exalt Jesus and behold Him, it produces fruitfulness and profits in our lives!

“Where there are no oxen, the manger is clean, But much revenue [because of good crops] comes by the strength of the ox.” (PROVERBS 14:4 AMP)

People who are proud and think that they know it all are unable to receive God’s revelations in their hearts.
On the other hand, humble people are teachable and able to easily receive the revelations in their hearts and see the benefits flow in their lives.

“A scoffer seeks wisdom and finds none [for his ears are closed to wisdom], But knowledge is easy for one who understands [because he is willing to learn].” (PROVERBS 14:6 AMP)

No other person can really understand what you are feeling in your heart.
Only One can: God. You can share your feelings with Him for He perfectly understands you.

“The heart knows its own bitterness, And no stranger shares its joy.” (PROVERBS 14:10 AMP)

When making decisions in life, don’t be led by sight and your own mind.
What seems logical may not be what’s best for you.
Always involve God in the decision-making process - pray and ask for His guidance.

“There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him, But its end is the way of death.” (PROVERBS 14:12 AMP)

There’s many articles, videos, blogs etc. out there talking about the Bible.
Check that they’re Grace and Jesus-Centered, and not Law-based, mixture, or unscriptural. Don’t just believe and accept whatever you read or watch in your heart.
Like Pastor Prince says, “right believing leads to right living”, so always filter a statement first by double checking with the Bible for yourself first before believing it.

“The naive or inexperienced person [is easily misled and] believes every word he hears, But the prudent man [is discreet and astute and] considers well where he is going.” (PROVERBS 14:15 AMP)

Are you being oppressed by evil right now? Don’t worry, good will always overcome evil.
Victory will be yours in the end - put your confidence in Jesus!

“The evil will bow down before the good, And the wicked [will bow down] at the gates of the righteous.” (PROVERBS 14:19 AMP)

Faith in motion is a powerful thing. Act on what you believe and it will produce results.
Simply knowing isn’t enough.
Already know that the Lord renews your youth like the eagles?
Then talk young, dress young, and act young - do it because you believe it.

“In all labor there is profit, But mere talk leads only to poverty.” (PROVERBS 14:23 AMP)

Jesus defined the “fear of the Lord” as worship of the Lord.

Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ”” (Matthew 4:10 NKJV)

This is the verse that Jesus was quoting to the devil in the wilderness, as recorded in Matthew 4:10.

“You shall fear the LORD your God and serve Him, and shall take oaths in His name.” (Deuteronomy 6:13 NKJV)

Feeling fearful, or battling with chronic sickness?
Worship God and you will receive strong confidence, healing and life.

“In the [reverent] fear of the LORD there is strong confidence, And His children will [always] have a place of refuge. The [reverent] fear of the LORD [that leads to obedience and worship] is a fountain of life, So that one may avoid the snares of death.” (PROVERBS 14:26-27 AMP)

There is profit from having self-control. Remember this the next time anger seeps in.
A person with a good temper shows signs of being wise.

“He who is slow to anger has great understanding [and profits from his self-control], But he who is quick-tempered exposes and exalts his foolishness [for all to see].” (PROVERBS 14:29 AMP)

Having a restful heart produces life and health to our body.
When it comes to rest, nothing produces true rest in the heart like believing the sure promises in God’s word.
Are there areas in life that you’re worried about?
Meditate on God’s promises for those areas, and become conscious of His overwhelming supply that exceeds the lack.
For example if you’re feeling depressed, meditate on “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, of power and of a sound mind”.

“A calm and peaceful and tranquil heart is life and health to the body, But passion and envy are like rottenness to the bones.” (PROVERBS 14:30 AMP)

This verse is not talking about a nation having the right laws, judicial systems, governance etc.
Instead, it’s saying that when the gospel of grace is preached and people in the nation start believing that they are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, that’s when the nation will flourish and grow.

“Righteousness [moral and spiritual integrity and virtuous character] exalts a nation, But sin is a disgrace to any people.” (PROVERBS 14:34 AMP)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 15

Note to self: If I get into a heated discussion with my wife, I’ll say “Sorry, I love you, forgive me please?” rather than just automatically jumping to defend and justify myself.

“A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, But the mouth of fools pours forth foolishness.
A wrathful man stirs up strife, But he who is slow to anger allays contention.” (Proverbs 15:1-2, 18 NKJV)

God is always watching us and He knows all our feelings and thoughts.
Despite knowing us so well and all our flaws, He still loves us!

“The eyes of the LORD are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good.
Hell and Destruction are before the LORD; So how much more the hearts of the sons of men.” (Proverbs 15:3, 11 NKJV)

Avoid ill gotten gains. It brings trouble!

“In the house of the righteous there is much treasure, But in the revenue of the wicked is trouble.” (Proverbs 15:6 NKJV)

God loves it when we spend time speaking to Him, sharing our innermost thoughts and desires.
He wants to help us and be intimately involved in our lives.

“The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, But the prayer of the upright is His delight.
The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD, But the words of the pure are pleasant.
The LORD is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous.” (Proverbs 15:8, 26, 29 NKJV)

Choose to have a merry heart at all times. You can keep rejoicing in the fact that you have Jesus and are eternally saved!

“A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
All the days of the afflicted are evil, But he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast. Better is a little with the fear of the LORD, Than great treasure with trouble. Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, Than a fatted calf with hatred.” (Proverbs 15:13, 15-17 NKJV)

Believers are the upright because they have received their righteousness from Jesus.
Our way should be smooth and we get to our destination faster than a lazy person - it’s all by God’s Grace, not by our efforts or abilities.

“The way of the lazy man is like a hedge of thorns, But the way of the upright is a highway.” (Proverbs 15:19 NKJV)

You will get what you speak so speak words that produce joy in your life.
Many times when a sermon seems to be speaking to me directly, it’s so divine and feels like God is talking directly to me.
I want to be that person who can prophesy and speak the right words just when someone needs them.

“A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, And a word spoken in due season, how good it is!” (Proverbs 15:23 NKJV)

When you focus on receiving God’s Hesed Wisdom this year, more likely than not, it will be the turning point in your life for the better.

“The way of life winds upward for the wise, That he may turn away from hell below.” (Proverbs 15:24 NKJV)

When you see Jesus in God’s word, your eyes are flooded with light.
I
t produces joy in your heart and many other amazing benefits.

When you read and listen to messages about God’s grace and testimonies of God’s goodness, it will have a positive effect on your health. Strong bones is one of the results!

“The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, And a good report makes the bones healthy.” (Proverbs 15:30 NKJV)

When we keep our eyes on Jesus and worship Him with all our heart, knowing that all the good things in our life comes by His grace alone, we will remain humble.

“The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, And before honor is humility.” (Proverbs 15:33 NKJV)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 16

There is no such thing as coincidence. Everything that we say or do is in some way guided by God.
We are either led to do something good, or allowed to do something bad so that we will learn a lesson from the experience.
God is much more in control than we know!
For a believer this is good news! I want to be directed by the Lord as much as possible.
I would rather think His thoughts and speak His words which produce life rather than my own fleshly thoughts and words which lead to death.

“The preparations of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the LORD.
A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.
The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, And adds learning to his lips.
The lot is cast into the lap, But its every decision is from the LORD.” (Proverbs 16:1, 9, 23, 33 NKJV)

When you align the desires of your heart with God’s will, you will get what you want.

“Commit your works to the LORD, And your thoughts will be established.” (Proverbs 16:3 NKJV)

Mercy here is probably “hesed” which means grace.
Grace and truth (although two words but are in the singular tense) refers to the Person of Jesus. It is hinted in this verse that God would provide a means for man to be forgiven of all his sins through Jesus Christ.
In an earlier Bible study we have established that Jesus defined the fear of the Lord as the worship of the Lord.
Praising and worshipping God is a powerful way to allow evil to be broken in your life!

“In mercy and truth Atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the LORD one departs from evil.” (Proverbs 16:6 NKJV)

Want to live a peaceful life free from enemies? Pray that you’ll always live in a way that’s pleasing to the Lord.
The best method to live this way is not by trying not to do this or do that - it is by beholding Jesus in God’s word and being transformed from glory to glory.

“When a man’s ways please the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.
In the light of the king’s face is life, And his favor is like a cloud of the latter rain.”
(Proverbs 16:7, 16:15 NKJV)

This is why the devil keeps attack man because he knows that God loves us and wants to force God to do something unrighteous.
If God does something unrighteous, He would lose His throne.
Thank God for the wisdom of the cross that allowed us to be saved and forgiven in a righteous way!

“It is an abomination for kings to commit wickedness, For a throne is established by righteousness.” (Proverbs 16:12 NKJV)

Trust the Lord that wisdom is truly the most important thing to get and that you will be happy when you have it.
God has already said not to chase material riches, so focus on wisdom instead!

“How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.
He who heeds the word wisely will find good, And whoever trusts in the LORD, happy is he.” (Proverbs 16:16, 20 NKJV)

Sin is a detour that slows you down from progressing in life.
Want to get ahead in life sooner? Then know the importance of not being distracted by sin.

“The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; He who keeps his way preserves his soul.” (Proverbs 16:17 NKJV)

This is the power of words. What words are more pleasant than the words of grace in God’s word?
Speak them and receive happiness and health!

“Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.” (Proverbs 16:24 NKJV)

Pray and keep feeding on God’s wisdom to gain self-control over your emotions.
A person who can do this has received great wisdom from the Lord.

“He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.” (Proverbs 16:32 NKJV)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 17

When we go through trials in life, treat them as tests from the Lord, and we when we emerge out of the trials victoriously, the impurities in us will be removed.
Every trial if embraced, teaches us valuable lessons and makes us better.

“The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, But the LORD tests the hearts.” (Proverbs 17:3 NKJV)

The one who has the most false and spiteful lips is the devil.
The more acts of evil one does, the more place that person gives to the devil to wreck havoc in his or her life.

“An evildoer gives heed to false lips; A liar listens eagerly to a spiteful tongue.” (Proverbs 17:4 NKJV)

Forgive people quickly of any wrongdoings and don’t bring up past mistakes to talk about again.
Doing so will cause you to lose good friends and even damage family and marriage relationships.

“He who covers a transgression seeks love, But he who repeats a matter separates friends.” (Proverbs 17:9 NKJV)

When you sense a quarrel brewing, take the high road: be the one to diffuse the tension and stop the conflict before it gets worse.
God will be happy to see you putting your ego aside and will reward you for the humility.
That will save you from lots of mental, emotional and physical damage, etc.

“The beginning of strife is like letting out water [as from a small break in a dam; first it trickles and then it gushes]; Therefore abandon the quarrel before it breaks out and tempers explode.” (PROVERBS 17:14 AMP)

As taught by Pastor Joseph Prince before: Believers are just, because they have received their righteousness from Jesus and Jesus has already paid for all their sins at the cross.
If believers condemn themselves, in God’s eyes, it is actually an abomination because they are dishonoring God’s gift of righteousness to them.
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

“He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, Both of them alike are an abomination to the LORD.” (Proverbs 17:15 NKJV)

If you are a true friend, you will love your friend at ALL times, even when they act unreasonably to you or make mistakes.
A lasting friendship is built out of such love, acceptance and understanding.

“A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity.” (Proverbs 17:17 NKJV)

A happy heart and a joyful mind act like healing medicine, without the side effects!
Rejoice in the Lord! Your healing will come speedily as you hold on to that happiness.

“A happy heart is good medicine and a joyful mind causes healing, But a broken spirit dries up the bones.” (PROVERBS 17:22 AMP)

A truly wise person is not showy, boastful, proud, or loud.
A sign that a person has God’s wisdom is that he or she is calm, cool and collected!

“He who has knowledge restrains and is careful with his words, And a man of understanding and wisdom has a cool spirit (self-control, an even temper). Even a [callous, arrogant] fool, when he keeps silent, is considered wise; When he closes his lips he is regarded as sensible (prudent, discreet) and a man of understanding.” (PROVERBS 17:27-28 AMP)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 18

A sign of wisdom is when a person listens with an open mind without interrupting.

“A [closed-minded] fool does not delight in understanding, But only in revealing his personal opinions [unwittingly displaying his self-indulgence and his stupidity].
He who answers before he hears [the facts]-- It is folly and shame to him.” (PROVERBS 18:2, 13 AMP)

When we call on the name of Jesus it is a true protection from evil.
However when people trust in their wealth as a form of security, it is actually false confidence and has no real protective power.

“The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runs to it and is safe and set on high [far above evil]. The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, And like a high wall [of protection] in his own imagination and conceit.” (PROVERBS 18:10-11 AMP)

When disaster strikes, you can trace the source of it back to a moment when pride and arrogance filled the heart.

“Before disaster the heart of a man is haughty and filled with self-importance, But humility comes before honor.” (PROVERBS 18:12 AMP)

One way of strengthening your spirit is by praying in tongues. When your spirit is strong, your body can fend off sickness.

“The spirit of a man sustains him in sickness, But as for a broken spirit, who can bear it?” (PROVERBS 18:14 AMP)

One who is generous with gifts tends to gain great favor with others, even benefactors.

“A man’s gift [given in love or courtesy] makes room for him And brings him before great men.” (PROVERBS 18:16 AMP)

Treasure the relationships in your life. It’s better to resolve disputes peacefully because a broken relationship is very difficult to be mended.

“A brother offended is harder to win over than a fortified city, And contentions [separating families] are like the bars of a castle.” (PROVERBS 18:19 AMP)

The words that we speak all have a consequence.
They either produce life or death. We get what we speak. Therefore, be very deliberate when speaking.

“A man’s stomach will be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; He will be satisfied with the consequence of his words. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it and indulge it will eat its fruit and bear the consequences of their words.” (PROVERBS 18:20-21 AMP)

Many great blessings are found in a marriage that’s led by God.

“He who finds a [ true and faithful] wife finds a good thing And obtains favor and approval from the LORD.” (PROVERBS 18:22 AMP)

If you become a people-pleaser you will be broken and disappointed.
We only need to be pleasing to One and find our security and happiness in Him: The Lord Jesus who is our true Friend.

“The man of too many friends [chosen indiscriminately] will be broken in pieces and come to ruin, But there is a [true, loving] friend who [is reliable and] sticks closer than a brother.” (PROVERBS 18:24 AMP)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 19

As Pastor Prince taught before, the devil likes pressure you and rush you to make bad decisions.
However, that is not God’s style. God leads by peace in your heart and doesn’t force you to do things against your will.

“Also it is not good for a person to be without knowledge, And he who hurries with his feet [acting impulsively and proceeding without caution or analyzing the consequences] sins (misses the mark).” (PROVERBS 19:2 AMP)

We see this often in movies: When something bad happens to the main character, he or she screams and shouts at God asking why that happened to him or her.
People are just so quick to blame God and they forget that the devil exists.
Anything bad is not caused by God. It’s caused by the sinfulness and foolishness of man who give in to the devil’s temptation
s.

“The foolishness of man undermines his way [ruining whatever he undertakes]; Then his heart is resentful and rages against the LORD [for, being a fool, he blames the LORD instead of himself].” (PROVERBS 19:3 AMP)

The people of the world are quick to curry favor with the rich and famous while harboring the ulterior motive to get favors and benefits from the friendship.
When a person has no visible benefit to them, they treat him or her like they are insignificant.
We should be treating others with love and respect like how God’s word teaches, and not by whether we can make use of a person.

“Wealth makes many friends, But a poor man is separated from his friend.
Many will seek the favor of a generous and noble man, And everyone is a friend to him who gives gifts. All the brothers of a poor man hate him; How much more do his friends abandon him! He pursues them with words, but they are gone.” (PROVERBS 19:4, 6-7 AMP)

Prioritize receiving God’s wisdom every day - all the blessings of God will pursue you.
Two great ways to keep understanding is to listen to Jesus-centered sermons and meditate on God’s word as you go about your day.

“He who gains wisdom and good sense loves (preserves) his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good and prosper.” (PROVERBS 19:8 AMP)

Luxury is more suitable for people with wisdom, who God can entrust with more money without them being consumed and destroyed in the process.
If we want an increase in our finances, focus on growing in God’s wisdom first.
He who is faithful with little is also faithful with much.

“Luxury is not fitting for a fool; Much less for a slave to rule over princes.” (PROVERBS 19:10 AMP)

A big-hearted, forgiving person has a glory about him or her.

“Good sense and discretion make a man slow to anger, And it is his honor and glory to overlook a transgression or an offense [without seeking revenge and harboring resentment].” (PROVERBS 19:11 AMP)

It is a terrible thing to be under God’s curse and judgement. Under the Law, because no one can keep the Law, man is always doomed to be cursed.
However it is a wonderful blessing to be under God’s grace.
Believers can enjoy a peaceful, happy life when they live by grace.
Pastor Prince taught before that the devil goes about like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour, and one of his tactics is to imitate Jesus (the Lion of Judah) and make us think that God is angry with us.

“The king’s wrath terrifies like the roaring of a lion, But his favor is as [refreshing and nourishing as] dew on the grass.” (PROVERBS 19:12 AMP)

Material wealth is a lower blessing than a God-chosen spouse for you.
Always treasure your spouse.

“House and wealth are the inheritance from fathers, But a wise, understanding, and sensible wife is [a gift and blessing] from the LORD.” (PROVERBS 19:14 AMP)

We should bless people in need out of an overflow of the love and compassion that we have received from God, especially when we spend a lot of time in His word.
However God Himself promises to reward whoever blesses the poor.

“He who is gracious and lends a hand to the poor lends to the LORD, And the LORD will repay him for his good deed.” (PROVERBS 19:17 AMP)

When disciplining your child, especially when caning, don’t do it to vent your own anger.
It should be done out of love, just enough severity to correct the misbehavior so that he or she won’t suffer worse consequences in the future.
Let a person with a bad temper bear the full responsibility and consequences for his or her mistakes, so that he or she will truly learn.

“Discipline and teach your son while there is hope, And do not [indulge your anger or resentment by imposing inappropriate punishment nor] desire his destruction. A man of great anger will bear the penalty [for his quick temper and lack of self-control]; For if you rescue him [and do not let him learn from the consequences of his action], you will only have to rescue him over and over again.” (PROVERBS 19:18-19 AMP)

A teachable person can receive God’s wisdom. Be willing to admit your mistakes and learn from them.

“Listen to counsel, receive instruction, and accept correction, That you may be wise in the time to come.” (PROVERBS 19:20 AMP)

Trust the Lord - you don’t have worry about your future. God has it all prepared and planned out for you.

“Many plans are in a man’s mind, But it is the LORD’S purpose for him that will stand (be carried out).” (PROVERBS 19:21 AMP)

Praise and worship is so powerful. It can usher in life, peace and fend off evil.

“The fear of the LORD leads to life, So that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil.” (PROVERBS 19:23 AMP)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 20

We are not supposed to be confrontational. It is not cool or brave to do that - it’s just stupid.
God wants us to be wise: to seek to establish peace and love instead of encouraging strife.

“It is an honor for a man to keep away from strife [by handling situations with thoughtful foresight], But any fool will [start a] quarrel [without regard for the consequences].” (PROVERBS 20:3 AMP)

The problem here is procrastination. When we think “there’s still a lot of time”, that’s when we fall into this trap.
That’s how we waste time (years even) and waste opportunities.
Many people of the world procrastinate about where they are going to spend their eternity -
They go about life acting as though God doesn’t exist, and then when they least expect it, their life ends.
Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke said it very well: The border to eternity does not lie ahead of us.
It runs parallel to our lives, and may be crossed over at any moment.
People must know that receiving God’s gift of salvation is urgent and of top priority!

“The lazy man does not plow when the winter [planting] season arrives; So he begs at the [next] harvest and has nothing [to reap].” (PROVERBS 20:4 AMP)

I want to be a father like that to my daughter.
I did not have the blessing of having parents who are believers when I was growing up, and as a result suffered many unnecessary trials and troubles because I had no proper role model to follow.

“The righteous man who walks in integrity and lives life in accord with his [godly] beliefs-- How blessed [happy and spiritually secure] are his children after him [who have his example to follow].” (PROVERBS 20:7 AMP)

Sin may seem harmless and even enjoyable at first but it always has a consequence.
Sin produces death in your life. The devil wants us to allow our sinful habits to gradually grow, until it utterly destroys us.

“Food gained by deceit is sweet to a man, But afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel [just as sin may be sweet at first, but later its consequences bring despair].” (PROVERBS 20:17 AMP)

Honoring your father and mother comes with God’s promise that you will have a long life.
However the opposite is also true: A person who is evil to his or her parents will have a shortened lifespan.

“Whoever curses his father or his mother, His lamp [of life] will be extinguished in time of darkness.” (PROVERBS 20:20 AMP)

Don’t seek revenge - that’s being self-righteous, as if there is no God who will give you justice.
Put your hope in God because He is a just God and will restore you for your losses.

“Do not say, “I will repay evil”; Wait [expectantly] for the LORD, and He will rescue and save you.” (PROVERBS 20:22 AMP)

We don’t have to worry about our life, how we’re going to provide for our family, or how our future is going to be like.
God has it prepared and ready for us already.
Our job is just to rest in Him by trusting that He has it all under control.

“Man’s steps are ordered and ordained by the LORD. How then can a man [fully] understand his way?” (PROVERBS 20:24 AMP)

Don’t swear or make any vows because none of us know the future and cannot guarantee the ability to keep them.
It is arrogant to presume to know the future.

“It is a trap for a man to [ speak a vow of consecration and] say rashly, “It is holy!” And [not until] afterward consider [whether he can fulfill it].” (PROVERBS 20:25 AMP)

“Mercy and “Lovingkindness” here in Hebrew is the word “hesed” which means grace.
God maintains Himself and His throne by ruling with grace.
It doesn’t say anything about God ruling by the Ten Commandments - the Law is not God’s preferred way of doing things - He loves to show grace.

“Mercy and truth preserve the king, And by lovingkindness he upholds his throne.” (Proverbs 20:28 NKJV)

The Four Expanses of the Heavens Revealed written by Milton Goh

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 21

Believers are kings and priests to God in Christ. May I always be like this king who is fully led by the Lord.

“The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the LORD; He turns it whichever way He wishes.” (PROVERBS 21:1 AMP)

“and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (Revelation 1:6 NKJV)

God doesn’t look at the outward form, but at our intentions. When we do something good, let it be for pure and right reasons.
You can’t trick or fool God. He knows the truth.

“Every man’s way is right in his own eyes, But the LORD weighs and examines the hearts [of people and their motives]. To do righteousness and justice Is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice [for wrongs repeatedly committed].” (PROVERBS 21:2-3 AMP)

This brings to mind the example of investing.
For a diligent person, he or she will take the time to learn about it, research, understand more, and pray about it before rushing to invest.
He or she may be even willing to lose a bit of money to learn valuable lessons, and will continue to persevere diligently.
Whereas a hasty, impulsive and lazy person will just invest carelessly without knowing or understanding anything and not even bother consulting God first.
Let us choose to be diligent and wise, not hasty and foolish.

“The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance and advantage, But everyone who acts in haste comes surely to poverty.” (PROVERBS 21:5 AMP)

The opposite is also true: it is a blessing to live in a house with a woman who loves peace and always seeks to establish peace.

“It is better to live in a corner of the housetop [on the flat roof, exposed to the weather] Than in a house shared with a quarrelsome (contentious) woman.
It is better to dwell in a desert land Than with a contentious and troublesome woman.” (PROVERBS 21:9, 19 AMP)

God loves to abundantly bless a generous believer who has a heart for God’s purposes.
We are blessed to be a blessing to others, not so that we can be selfish and self-serving.

“He who loves [only selfish] pleasure will become a poor man; He who loves and is devoted to wine and [olive] oil will not become rich.” (PROVERBS 21:17 AMP)

Wise people save money and spend thriftily.

“There is precious treasure and oil in the house of the wise [who prepare for the future], But a short-sighted and foolish man swallows it up and wastes it.” (PROVERBS 21:20 AMP)

The word “Mercy” here in Hebrew is “Hesed” which means grace.
Believers reign in life through the abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness!
How to follow righteousness and grace? By following Jesus - seek Him in God’s word and live life knowing that Jesus’ finished work at the cross has made you the righteousness of God in Him.
By doing this, you will find life, righteousness and honor.

“He who follows righteousness and mercy Finds life, righteousness, and honor.” (Proverbs 21:21 NKJV)

Carefully choose the words that you speak because that can save you from a lot of trouble.

“He who guards his mouth and his tongue Guards himself from troubles.” (PROVERBS 21:23 AMP)

Believers shouldn’t be afraid of hard work. God will sustain you with His grace.
If a work is led by God, He will give you the empowerment needed to complete the work without you being burnt out in the process.

“The desire of the lazy kills him, For his hands refuse to labor; He craves all the day long [and does no work], But the righteous [willingly] gives and does not withhold [what he has].” (PROVERBS 21:25-26 AMP)

Do you want to go unchallenged? Keep listening to the gospel of grace being preached. That is the truth we need to be listening to.

“A false witness will perish, But a man who listens to the truth will speak forever and go unchallenged.” (PROVERBS 21:28 AMP)

God’s wisdom is the best. Don’t seek the world’s wisdom -
Seek for God’s wisdom in His word and by praying and letting Him lead you in your heart.
These two verses also hint about the future battle at Armageddon that will take place where the devil and his human armies will attempt to war against God. They will be utterly defeated.

“There is no [human] wisdom or understanding Or counsel [that can prevail] against the LORD. The horse is prepared for the day of battle, But deliverance and victory belong to the LORD.” (PROVERBS 21:30-31 AMP)

“And I saw three loathsome spirits like frogs, leaping from the mouth of the dragon (Satan) and from the mouth of the beast (Antichrist, dictator) and from the mouth of the false prophet; for they are [actually] the spirits of demons, performing [miraculous] signs. And they go out to the kings of the entire inhabited earth, to gather them together for the war of the great day of God, the Almighty. (“Behold, I am coming like a thief. Blessed is he who stays awake and who keeps his clothes [that is, stays spiritually ready for the Lord’s return], so that he will not be naked--spiritually unprepared--and men will not see his shame.”) And they (demons) gathered the kings and armies of the world together at the place which in Hebrew is called Har-Magedon (Armageddon).” (REVELATION 16:13-16 AMP)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 22

It is more important to have God on your side than to be rich.

“A good name [earned by honorable behavior, godly wisdom, moral courage, and personal integrity] is more desirable than great riches; And favor is better than silver and gold.” (PROVERBS‬ ‭22:1‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Two things that lead to wealth and health: being humble and worshiping God.

“The reward of humility [that is, having a realistic view of one’s importance] and the [reverent, worshipful] fear of the LORD Is riches, honor, and life.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭22:4‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

We should introduce Jesus to our children when they are young.
Expose them to God by bringing them to church with you, praying in their presence, thanking Jesus, partaking of the Holy Communion, playing Jesus-centered sermons in the car and at home, read Jesus-centered books to them, etc.
When they have a strong impression of God since young, they will be more likely to make Jesus a part of their lives.

“Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], Even when he is old he will not depart from it.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭22:6‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

This is why we shouldn’t borrow money when we have other alternatives.
We don’t want to be subject to servanthood unnecessarily.
It can be a stressful and damaging experience trying to pay back the debts owed.

“The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender.” (PROVERBS‬ ‭22:7‬ AMP)

God is not necessarily on the side of the rich, powerful and famous.
Instead, He is a Defender and Upholder of Justice for the weak and poor.
God is attracted to man’s weakness, to people who have no strength and nothing to boast of about themselves.

“He who is generous will be blessed, For he gives some of his food to the poor.
He who oppresses or exploits the poor to get more for himself Or who gives to the rich [to gain influence and favor], will only come to poverty.
Do not rob the poor because he is poor [and defenseless], Nor crush the afflicted [by legal proceedings] at the gate [where the city court is held], For the LORD will plead their case And take the life of those who rob them.” (PROVERBS‬ ‭22:9, 16, 22-23‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

The most treacherous being is the devil. When you have God’s wisdom, God protects you and overturns all the devil’s accusations made against you.

“The eyes of the LORD keep guard over knowledge and the one who has it, But He overthrows the words of the treacherous.” (PROVERBS‬ ‭22:12‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

A child starts of being foolish and when we discipline our child by caning in a proper spirit of love and correction, it will help him or her to learn and become wise.

“Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; The rod of discipline [correction administered with godly wisdom and lovingkindness] will remove it far from him.” (PROVERBS‬ ‭22:15‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

A person who is very good at what or she does will experience honor.
This skillfulness can be an anointing from God.
Is there a skill that you’re especially talented in and find really easy to do?
God has probably anointed you in that area.
Use your anointing well and God will promote you before men.

“Do you see a man skillful and experienced in his work? He will stand [in honor] before kings; He will not stand before obscure men.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭22:29‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 23

Don’t make money the focus of your life. The more you pursue money, the further out of reach it becomes.
Pursue Jesus instead and all the blessings of God will be attracted to you.

“Do not weary yourself [with the overwhelming desire] to gain wealth; Cease from your own understanding of it. When you set your eyes on wealth, it is [suddenly] gone. For wealth certainly makes itself wings Like an eagle that flies to the heavens.” (PROVERBS‬ ‭23:4-5‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Don’t try to convince someone about Jesus if he or she shows obvious close-mindedness and skepticism.
Pray that God will create an opportunity for that person to be saved.

“Do not speak in the ears of a fool, For he will despise the [godly] wisdom of your words.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭23:9‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Caning is an acceptable form of discipline. Don’t use other objects to discipline.
As parents we can help our children to avoid future troubles due to misbehavior by disciplining them properly.

“Do not withhold discipline from the child; If you swat him with a reed-like rod [applied with godly wisdom], he will not die. You shall swat him with the reed-like rod And rescue his life from Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead).” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭23:13-14‬ ‭AMP)

For believers who are seeing non-believers living apparently happy and blessed lives and themselves in less-than-ideal situations.
Be encouraged, God has a good plan for you and your future is bright!
Keep hoping in the Lord and keep the faith.
Keep listening to Jesus-centered sermons. You will reign in life through the gift of righteousness and the abundance of grace.

“Do not let your heart envy sinners [who live godless lives and have no hope of salvation], But [continue to] live in the [reverent, worshipful] fear of the LORD day by day. Surely there is a future [and a reward], And your hope and expectation will not be cut off. Listen, my son, and be wise, And direct your heart in the way [of the LORD ].” (PROVERBS‬ ‭23:17-19‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Drinking wine is allowed, but being addicted to it and over-indulging in it until the point of being drunk is giving the devil an opportunity to steal, kill and destroy in our lives.

“Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaining? Who has wounds without cause? Whose eyes are red and dim? Those who linger long over wine, Those who go to taste mixed wine. Do not look at wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the glass, When it goes down smoothly. At the last it bites like a serpent And stings like a viper. Your [drunken] eyes will see strange things And your mind will utter perverse things [untrue things, twisted things]. And you will be [as unsteady] as one who lies down in the middle of the sea, And [as vulnerable to disaster] as one who lies down on the top of a ship’s mast, saying, “They struck me, but I was not hurt! They beat me, but I did not feel it! When will I wake up? I will seek more wine.”” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭23:29-35‬ AMP)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 24

Wisdom is truly important for all areas of our life.
The first thing to get is wisdom and understanding to establish the foundation of our life.
A wise person seeks to know Jesus more, to gain further spiritual insight from God.
Then as we listen to Jesus-centered sermons, spend time in prayer and in God’s word, we gain more knowledge of Jesus and through that we receive abundance.
After that, our house be filled with all the material blessings.

“Through [skillful and godly] wisdom a house [a life, a home, a family] is built, And by understanding it is established [on a sound and good foundation], And by knowledge its rooms are filled With all precious and pleasant riches.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭24:3-4‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Continuously feeding on God’s word strengthens us and prepares us to successfully overcome the trials of life.

“A wise man is strong, And a man of knowledge strengthens his power; For by wise guidance you can wage your war, And in an abundance of [wise] counselors there is victory and safety.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭24:5-6‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Foolish people will think that wisdom is something impractical, and they will chase material blessings, especially when they are in a desperate situation.
However getting God’s wisdom is the most practical thing you can do because it leads to long life, riches, honor, peace and pleasure.

“Wisdom is too exalted for a [hardened, arrogant] fool; He does not open his mouth in the gate [where the city’s rulers sit in judgment].” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭24:7‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Facing a trial in life and seeing our response to it will be a good test to see how much wisdom we have received from God, and where we are at now in our spiritual maturity.

“If you are slack (careless) in the day of distress, Your strength is limited.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭24:10‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Wisdom is more satisfying and beneficial than eating sweet honey.
It is worth it to prioritize receiving God’s wisdom on a daily basis.

“My son, eat honey, because it is good, And the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste. Know that [skillful and godly] wisdom is [so very good] for your life and soul; If you find wisdom, then there will be a future and a reward, And your hope and expectation will not be cut off.” (PROVERBS‬ ‭24:13-14‬ ‭AMP‬)

Seven is the number of completion. Creation took seven days to be completed.
Falling seven times represents falling utterly and severely in life.
Even if believers go through a rough patch in life, they can surely know that they will rise up again! We can never be permanently beaten down.

“For a righteous man falls seven times, and rises again, But the wicked stumble in time of disaster and collapse.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭24:16‬ ‭AMP‬)

There is wisdom in living life in this order:
1) Prepare your work: Building your career.
2) Build your house: Get your own property.
3) Establish a home: Start a family - Get married and have kids.
Pray for the Lord to bless you and guide you by His wisdom in each stage of your life.

“Prepare your work outside And get it ready for yourself in the field; Afterward build your house and establish a home.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭24:27‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

A person who has received God’s wisdom will not be lazy anymore.
The consequence of laziness is poverty.
God’s will for us is to be diligent and not lazy.

“I went by the field of the lazy man, And by the vineyard of the man lacking understanding and common sense; And, behold, it was all overgrown with thorns, And nettles were covering its surface, And its stone wall was broken down. When I saw, I considered it well; I looked and received instruction. “Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to rest [and daydream],” Then your poverty will come as a robber, And your want like an armed man.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭24:30-34‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 25

The powerful and life-changing truths of God are hidden in the Bible from our human eyes.
Only through the Holy Spirit can we gain revelation and understanding about God’s word.
How we “search out a matter” is by reading the Bible and praying for the Holy Spirit to reveal Jesus in the word to us.
We are unable to fully comprehend the wisdom in God’s heart and mind, but we can gain insight to it through His word.

“It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter. As the heavens for height and the earth for depth, So the hearts and minds of kings are unsearchable.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭25:2-3‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Silver is put through intense heat to separate the dross from it.
When we go through fiery trials in life, God takes the opportunity to purify us, to work on our hearts so that we become wiser than before.
The newfound wisdom makes us more obedient to God’s leading in our hearts -
to be led by the Spirit to walk by faith and not led by the flesh to walk by sight.

“Take away the dross from the silver, And there comes out [the pure metal for] a vessel for the silversmith [to shape].” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭25:4‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

When things are not going your way in a discussion or partnership with someone, do not clash head-to-head.
You can’t expect to gain a kiss by punching the other party.
Firstly, pray for God to grant you favor with the other party and for his or her heart to be open and willing to receive what you have to say.
Then a better way would be to use a soft and gentle approach, to win the heart of the other party through showing God’s love and goodness.

“By patience and a calm spirit a ruler may be persuaded, And a soft and gentle tongue breaks the bone [of resistance].” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭25:15‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

This applies to many neutral things that are neither good or bad in themselves.
For example, it is okay to enjoy drinking a glass of wine once in a while, but if you over-indulge to the point of drunkenness or addiction, then it’s sinful.
Another example would be watching movies and shows: if you watch a movie or show while pacing yourself, it’s okay. But if you spend so many hours watching them everyday and are addicted and losing precious sleep over them, then it’s sinful.
It’s sinful when you let something control and distract you to point of constantly making bad decisions.

“Have you found [pleasure sweet like] honey? Eat only as much as you need, Otherwise, being filled excessively, you vomit it.” (PROVERBS‬ ‭25:16‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

This is definitely counterintuitive. Even if you don’t feel like being kind to your enemy, do it anyway as an obedience to God.
Precisely because it’s difficult to do, that’s why God promises to reward you for choosing to live by faith and not by your emotions.

“If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat; And if he is thirsty, give him water to drink; For in doing so, you will heap coals of fire upon his head, And the LORD will reward you.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭25:21-22‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

This seems to imply that when pastors, ministers, preachers, evangelists, leaders etc. from overseas come to preach the gospel of grace as a guest speaker, the resulting effect is a strong spiritual satisfaction in the congregation.
This principle can be clearly seen in the case of Pastor Joseph Prince, where people who listen to his sermons from overseas are so hungry to feed on his sermons!
Conversely, some people who attend New Creation Church in Singapore and see Pastor Prince live every week on Sunday could take him for granted.
Jesus talked about this when He said “a prophet is not welcome in his home country”.

“Like cold water to a thirsty soul, So is good news from a distant land.” (PROVERBS‬ ‭25:25‬ AMP)

When we are in a setting that’s surrounded by non-believers, there is a tendency to fit in by adopting their worldly manner of speech, actions and decisions.
However we don’t have to impress them, we just need to be right with God and God will grant us the favor with them.
Do the right thing at all times based on the truth that you know.
Don’t let the world drag you down to their level - rise above it by living according to God’s word.

“Like a muddied fountain and a polluted spring Is a righteous man who yields and compromises his integrity before the wicked.” (PROVERBS‬ ‭25:26‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Pray for self-control - it is one of the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit.
Pastor Prince taught before that you can’t produce a fruit by your works, it grows out as a result of life.
Instead of trying to control yourself by using your efforts and willpower, you can gain true self-control when you constantly feed on God’s word for nourishment: read the Bible and listen to Jesus-centered sermons.

“Like a city that is broken down and without walls [leaving it unprotected] Is a man who has no self-control over his spirit [and sets himself up for trouble].” (PROVERBS‬ ‭25:28‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 26

There are only two ways that believers can come under a curse:
1) By putting themselves under the Law, they are subjecting themselves to the curse of the Law.
2) By preaching any other gospel than the gospel of grace, they are putting themselves under the double curse as proclaimed by the Apostle Paul.

“Like the sparrow in her wandering, like the swallow in her flying, So the curse without cause does not come and alight [on the undeserving].” (‭‭PROVERBS‬ ‭26:2‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

We are taught not to reprimand a scoffer, but we must correct a fool for our sakes, so that we won’t be like fools as well.

“Do not answer [nor pretend to agree with the frivolous comments of] a [closed-minded] fool according to his folly, Otherwise you, even you, will be like him. Answer [and correct the erroneous concepts of] a fool according to his folly, Otherwise he will be wise in his own eyes [if he thinks you agree with him].” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭26:4-5‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

When God gives you a creative business or work idea, act on it as soon as you can.
If not, procrastination and laziness will cause us to lose out on these God-given opportunities.

“The lazy person buries his hand in the dish [losing opportunity after opportunity]; It wearies him to bring it back to his mouth.” (PROVERBS‬ ‭26:15‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

It is foolish to self-righteously meddle in a dispute that is none of our business.
Just pray for them that the conflict will be resolved peacefully.
Let God settle the problem because He can definitely do a better job than us.

“Like one who grabs a dog by the ears [and is likely to be bitten] Is he who, passing by, stops to meddle with a dispute that is none of his business.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭26:17‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 27

Practical wisdom for friendship.
Only a true friend will care enough to tell you the truth, even if it hurts.
That’s because he or she really has your welfare in mind.
Choose your friends wisely - walk beside wise people instead of fools. You will grow together in the Lord.

“Better is an open reprimand [of loving correction] Than love that is hidden. Faithful are the wounds of a friend [who corrects out of love and concern], But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful [because they serve his hidden agenda].
Oil and perfume make the heart glad; So does the sweetness of a friend’s counsel that comes from the heart. Do not abandon your own friend and your father’s friend, And do not go to your brother’s house in the day of your disaster. Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away.
As iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens [and influences] another [through discussion].” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭27:5-6, 9-10, 17‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

When God tests us, He looks at how our heart responds.
If someone responds in a proud way when receiving praise, then he or she is still spiritually immature.

“As in water face reflects face, So the heart of man reflects man.
The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold [to separate the impurities of the metal], And each is tested by the praise given to him [and his response to it, whether humble or proud].” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭27:19, 21‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Practical financial wisdom. Regularly monitor the health of your business and finances because you don’t want to be caught off guard when there is a sudden change or drop in cash flow.
God wants to encourage us that even if our finances are in a bad place right now, it will not keep remaining like that.
We will be well-supplied and provided for. Just keep focusing on Jesus and there’s no need to worry.

“Be diligent to know the condition of your flocks, And pay attention to your herds; For riches are not forever, Nor does a crown endure to all generations. When the grass is gone, the new growth is seen, And herbs of the mountain are gathered in, The lambs will supply wool for your clothing, And the goats will bring the price of a field. And there will be enough goats’ milk for your food, For the food of your household, And for the maintenance of your maids.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭27:23-27‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 28

The difference between non-believers and believers is that non-believers are haunted by the sins they have committed, whereas believers have a clear conscience -
they have the assurance that they’re forgiven of all their sins.

“The wicked flee when no one pursues them, But the righteous are as bold as a lion.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭28:1‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Business leadership principles. If you’re a business leader or any kind of leader for that matter, prioritize getting God’s wisdom.
It will ensure the stability and sustainability of your team/organization/business/family/unit.
Treat your people right with love and respect.

“When a land does wrong, it has many princes, But when the ruler is a man of understanding and knowledge, its stability endures.
A leader who is a great oppressor lacks understanding and common sense [and his wickedness shortens his days], But he who hates unjust gain will [be blessed and] prolong his days.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭28:2, 16‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Believers who are generous to the poor are very blessed. They will be wealthy and never suffer lack.

“He who increases his wealth by interest and usury (excessive interest) Gathers it for him who is gracious to the poor.
He who gives to the poor will never want, But he who shuts his eyes [from their need] will have many curses.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭28:8, 27‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

In today’s context under grace, confessing of sins and repentance here is a one-time event in a person’s life, referring to the action of receiving Jesus as Lord and Savior.
When you become a believer, you will find God’s grace for you and you will prosper because of it.

“He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, But whoever confesses and turns away from his sins will find compassion and mercy.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭28:13‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

A murderer will always, until death, be trying to escape the guilt he or she feels for killing a person.
Some may temporarily escape punishment by human law, but they will suffer the burden of guilt for life.

“A man who is burdened with the guilt of human blood (murder) Will be a fugitive until death; let no one support him or give him refuge.” (PROVERBS‬ ‭28:17‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Prayerfully seeking new ways to improve your own skills or business and don’t become close-minded to trying new God-inspired ideas.
Patience is key: Your abundance will come step by step, as led by the Lord.
The first step is to have right believing. When your beliefs align with God’s word, that’s when you will start abounding with blessings!

“He who cultivates his land will have plenty of bread, But he who follows worthless people and frivolous pursuits will have plenty of poverty. A faithful (right-minded) man will abound with blessings, But he who hurries to be rich will not go unpunished.
He who has an evil and envious eye hurries to be rich And does not know that poverty will come upon him.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭28:19-20, 22‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Showing favoritism in any situation between any people is not wise.
It stirs up wickedness within the flesh of the person being unfairly treated, and may become a danger to you.

“To have regard for one person over another and to show favoritism is not good, Because for a piece of bread a man will transgress.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭28:21‬ ‭AMP‬)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 29

God’s heart is for the last, lost and the least. He is interested in being the Defender of the weak.
It’s okay to show your weaknesses to Him because He wants to help you with your weaknesses and give you His strength.

“The righteous man cares for the rights of the poor, But the wicked man has no interest in such knowledge.
If a king faithfully and truthfully judges the poor, His throne shall be established forever.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭29:7, 14‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Parenting wisdom. There are two ways to help your child gain wisdom:
1) Disciplining by caning on the buttocks when he or she commits a sin. Do it out of love and grace for child, to save him or her from worse consequences in the future.
2) Teaching your child about life based on God’s word.
Letting your child do whatever he or she wants all the time without discipline or correction is going to ruin your child - that’s not true love.
It’s just selfishness (because your feelings are more important than the welfare of your child) and laze (can’t be bothered to say or do anything to correct the misbehavior).

“The rod and reproof (godly instruction) give wisdom, But a child who gets his own way brings shame to his mother.
Correct your son, and he will give you comfort; Yes, he will delight your soul.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭29:15, 17‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

A man’s ego is the worse thing. It is boastful in good times and defensive in bad times.
A humble man who is teachable and open to receiving God’s wisdom is ready to receive honor from the Lord.

“A man’s pride and sense of self-importance will bring him down, But he who has a humble spirit will obtain honor.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭29:23‬ ‭AMP‬)

We don’t have to fear man because they can’t do anything to us unless it is allowed by the Lord.
It’s always better to live by faith than by fear.
In times of trouble, keep your eyes on Jesus. You will be safe in Him.

“The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in and puts his confidence in the LORD will be exalted and safe.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭29:25‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Don’t put your faith in man - the legal/ judicial system etc. Your justice comes from the Lord!
The best thing you can do is to pray that He will avenge you, restore you for your losses, and give you favor.

“Many seek the ruler’s favor, But justice for man comes from the LORD.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭29:26‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 30

Meaning of the name “Agur”: Collector/ Gatherer/ Assembler.

Meaning of the name “Jakeh”: Pious.

Meaning of the name “Ithiel”: God is with me.

Meaning of the name “Ucal”: To be able/ To have power.

Put the four names together and you get the understanding of why the Holy Spirit included their names in Proverbs 30:
The Pious Collector is writing these words of wisdom for us so that in studying these, God will be with us to enable us and give us His power.

Only God the Father has done this together with Jesus.
God the Father descended to earth on Mount Sinai when the Ten Commandments were given.
He created the world.
His Son’s name is Jesus.

“Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son’s name? Certainly you know!” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭30:4‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

God’s word is reliable and you can trust in His promises. When you trust in Him, He will protect you.

“Every word of God is tested and refined [like silver]; He is a shield to those who trust and take refuge in Him.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭30:5‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

These two things are essential for letting God’s power flow unconstricted in our lives:
1) Don’t lie, and avoid associating with liars.
2) Focus on Jesus and not on material wealth - He will definitely supply you with the provision that you need.

“Two things I have asked of You; Do not deny them to me before I die: Keep deception and lies far from me; Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food that is my portion, So that I will not be full and deny You and say, “Who is the LORD?” Or that I will not be poor and steal, And so profane the name of my God.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭30:7-9‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

This sounds like the current state of society.
What strikes me most is that they are pure in their own eyes, but they are actually not washed from their sins.
This generation needs to know Jesus. He is the only way to true purity.

“There is a generation (class of people) that curses its father And does not bless its mother. There is a generation (class of people) that is pure in its own eyes, Yet is not washed from its filthiness. There is a generation (class of people)--oh, how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are raised in arrogance. There is a generation (class of people) whose teeth are like swords And whose jaw teeth are like knives, To devour the afflicted from the earth And the needy from among men.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭30:11-14‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

This is the fate of unbelievers: The worms/leeches and the unquenchable fire in the lake of fire are never satisfied and will never say “it is enough”.
They will just torture those who died in their sins for eternity - what a tragic fate!

“The leech has two daughters, “Give, give!” There are three things that are never satisfied, Four that do not say, “It is enough”: Sheol, and the barren womb, Earth that is never satisfied with water, And fire that never says, “It is enough.”” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭30:15-16‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

The Law is a servant whereas Jesus is the son. When believers exalt the Law above Grace (Jesus), the earth quakes for it knows the truth that the balance is upset.
A fool is destined for poverty. Only the wise will receive true and lasting riches.
“Unloved woman” is ”hateful woman” in NKJV.
When a woman is still un-virtuous, she is not ready to be a wife. She needs to learn the qualities of a virtuous wife in Proverbs 31.
Hagar (Sarah’s maidservant) and Sarah (Abraham’s wife) represent Law and Grace respectively.
When believers treat the Law as better and above Grace, that’s when tragedy happens to them.

“Under three things the earth is disquieted and quakes, And under four it cannot bear up: Under a servant when he reigns, Under a [spiritually blind] fool when he is filled with food, Under an unloved woman when she gets married, And under a maidservant when she supplants her mistress.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭30:21-23‬ ‭AMP‬)

If you have done this, then put a stop to it immediately because there is no escaping the consequence of letting your anger get the better of you.
Anger itself is not sin, but it is a powerful emotion that can drive you to commit sin.
To let God’s power flow unconstricted in your life, you need to meditate on God’s word and listen to Jesus-centered sermons.
That way you will become a wise person with a calm spirit and true self-control.

“If you have foolishly exalted yourself, Or if you have plotted evil, put your hand on your mouth. Surely the churning of milk produces butter, And wringing the nose produces blood; So the churning of anger produces strife.” ‭‭(PROVERBS‬ ‭30:32-33‬ ‭AMP‬‬)

Bible Study Takeaways from Proverbs 31

Meaning of the name “Lemuel”: Belonging to God/ Devoted to God.

This chapter’s wisdom is for those who belong to God - believers in Jesus Christ.

God’s heart is to be the Defender of the defenseless.
He is on the side of those who see themselves as weak, not those who boast in their own strength.

“Open your mouth for the mute, For the rights of all who are unfortunate and defenseless; Open your mouth, judge righteously, And administer justice for the afflicted and needy.” (PROVERBS 31:8-9 AMP)

Proverbs 31 has 31 verses! Verses 10 to 31 is an acrostic poem: Each verse begins with each successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet -
This poem describes from beginning to the end of the qualities of a virtuous woman.
Jesus’ is the “Beginning and the End” - in Hebrew that is “Aleph Tav” (the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet) -
A man finds a virtuous wife like this when he is in Christ.
A God-given wife like this is a great blessing to a man.
Single men should pray for a wife like this, and single women should pray to be a woman like this.

“An excellent woman [one who is spiritual, capable, intelligent, and virtuous], who is he who can find her? Her value is more precious than jewels and her worth is far above rubies or pearls. The heart of her husband trusts in her [with secure confidence], And he will have no lack of gain. She comforts, encourages, and does him only good and not evil All the days of her life.” (PROVERBS 31:10-12 AMP)

This is the fifth verse of the acrostic poem - The first Hebrew letter corresponds with Hei (5) in Hebrew which represents grace.
When a man has a wife like this, he obtains grace: prosperity and provision abounds in his life.

“She is like the merchant ships [abounding with treasure]; She brings her [household’s] food from far away.” (PROVERBS 31:14 AMP)

A virtuous woman is multi-talented, diligent and not lazy.
She is led by the Lord to bring income into her household on top of her parenting duties.

She does it all without complaining and has the grace for it so she doesn’t burn out from all the hard work.

“She looks for wool and flax And works with willing hands in delight.
She rises also while it is still night And gives food to her household And assigns tasks to her maids. She considers a field before she buys or accepts it [expanding her business prudently]; With her profits she plants fruitful vines in her vineyard. She equips herself with strength [spiritual, mental, and physical fitness for her God-given task] And makes her arms strong. She sees that her gain is good; Her lamp does not go out, but it burns continually through the night [she is prepared for whatever lies ahead]. She stretches out her hands to the distaff, And her hands hold the spindle [as she spins wool into thread for clothing].
She makes for herself coverlets, cushions, and rugs of tapestry. Her clothing is linen, pure and fine, and purple [wool].
She makes [fine] linen garments and sells them; And supplies sashes to the merchants.
She looks well to how things go in her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness.”
(PROVERBS 31:13, 15-19, 22, 24, 27 AMP)

A virtuous woman does not need to seek affirmation or praise on her own because her actions will attract praises on their own.
She is focused on getting things done instead of wasting time worrying about what others think about her.
Everyone in her life: husband, children and people all esteem and hold her in high regard.

“The heart of her husband trusts in her [with secure confidence], And he will have no lack of gain. She comforts, encourages, and does him only good and not evil All the days of her life.
She opens her mouth in [skillful and godly] wisdom, And the teaching of kindness is on her tongue [giving counsel and instruction].
Her children rise up and call her blessed (happy, prosperous, to be admired); Her husband also, and he praises her, saying, “Many daughters have done nobly, and well [with the strength of character that is steadfast in goodness], But you excel them all.”
Give her of the product of her hands, And let her own works praise her in the gates [of the city].” (PROVERBS 31:11-12, 26, 28-29, 31 AMP)

A virtuous woman’s heart is aligned with God - she is generous and cares for the poor and needy by blessing them with prayers, help and provisions.

“She opens and extends her hand to the poor, And she reaches out her filled hands to the needy.” (PROVERBS 31:20 AMP)

God’s definition of a praiseworthy woman is not someone who is physically beautiful - that is not the number one priority.
God looks at the heart: a woman who loves and worships Jesus is a praiseworthy woman.

“Charm and grace are deceptive, and [superficial] beauty is vain, But a woman who fears the LORD [reverently worshiping, obeying, serving, and trusting Him with awe-filled respect], she shall be praised.” (PROVERBS 31:30 AMP)

Hi Milton,

I am so impressed with your expansion on the 4 set of quadruples from Proverbs 30, but there seems to be one quadruples left unpreached - ants, conies, locusts and lizards.

It will be great to have some insights on that too🙏

Many thanks Milton

Hi Sam,

““There are four things which are little on the earth, but they are exceedingly wise:” (Proverbs‬ ‭30:24‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The pattern of the writing is different, so I believe it is not part of the quadruplet about Jesus.

In the others, it begins with 3 things, then 4. But this one about the animals states 4 and doesn’t mention 3.

The animals teach us the secret to amplify your strength. They are little but wise. Three of the four mentioned (ants, conies, locusts) work together in numbers to get work done. Unity is strength. The lizard uses its small size and agility to access a place that animals and people much bigger than itself cannot access. It can eat the leftovers of the king’s food and live like a king (without doing the hard work of rulership). Don’t despise your weaknesses because your areas of weaknesses are actually strengths in certain situations!
