Questions About Life that Make you Think: If Someone Died for You, How Would You Live after That? - A Daily Devotional to Meditate On

Here's a Question About Life that Makes you Think: If Someone Died for You, How Would You Live after That? Hopefully this short story helps you to gain some insight of what you believe about our Lord Jesus Christ!
Here's a Question About Life that Makes you Think: If Someone Died for You, How Would You Live after That? Hopefully this short story helps you to gain some insight of what you believe about our Lord Jesus Christ!

Daily Devotional Bible Verses to Meditate on:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” (John‬ ‭15:13‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” ‭‭(Romans‬ ‭5:8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

“By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.” (‭‭I John‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Think about someone important and close to you in your life: Imagine that you and that person are walking on a street one night and are unfortunately caught in the middle of a fire fight between two gangs.

While hurriedly looking for a place to hide, a bullet comes flying straight towards your heart, and the person who is important and close to you jumps out in its path, sacrificing for you.

As the bullet punctures a vital organ and the person you love and care for is bleeding profusely, you hear the person a speak these words weakly, "Don't worry about me. Go... you must live well."

With the last bit of strength, the person squeezes your hand reassuringly, and then that hand drops limply to the ground, motionless.

The gunfire intensifies, bullet shells are dropping to the ground on your left and right - their light, clinking sounds suddenly seems like bomb explosions to your ears.

As hot tears stream down your face, you lift your loved one's body by the armpits and drag it away carefully and protectively. You manage to escape the danger zone and are now safe.

How would that incident affect your life from that day onwards?

Looking back at the day's traumatic events and the loss of your loved one, you remember the person's last words, especially the two words "Live well".

Of course all of the above is imaginary and I pray that everyone you love and care about will live happy, healthy and prosperous.

However, if the incident that you imagined above really happened, how would you choose to live your life after that?

Would the person's last words have given you a new, strong resolve to live better, in a way that would honor his or her sacrifice?

If that happened to me, I would probably be determined to kick my bad habits, focus on making something of my life and treasure the fact that I am still alive and that to be alive is a gift.

I would probably not dwell on trivial issues or bear grudges. I would probably smile more, be more generous, be kinder to others, and live purpsefully without regrets.

Someone really suffered and died for you and me!

Well it turns out that Someone who loves us more than we can ever think or imagine did suffer and die for you and me.

More than 2000 years ago, at a place called Golgotha, the God-Man named Jesus hung on a cross with the entire weight of His body supported by His nail-pierced hands and feet.

Before He was put on the cross, He was severely whipped with the cruel Roman Flagellum (aka. Cat-o-nine-tails) which had 'branches' of sharp shards of glass and bone that sunk into His flesh and ripped it out with each blow.

He was made to suffer many of those blows, probably 39 according to Jewish Law.

After that, even though streams of blood were oozing out from the wounds all over His back, He had to carry the heavy cross for a long distance - all the way to Golgotha.

Jesus was also mocked, spat on, hit and publicly humiliated, and the most painful of all, the full fire of our Heavenly Father’s wrath and judgement upon sin was poured out on Jesus’ body at the cross!

Jesus willingly suffered all these because He didn’t want us to suffer God’s wrath ourselves, and He wanted us to be able to "live well".

We can live well because He the only begotten Son of God died for us, and the divine, sinless blood that He shed for us at the cross has paid the price for all of our sins.

Now that you know, how will you live?

If you see Jesus as a real Person who is your personal Lord and Savior, then He should also be as real as that person in the incident we imagined in the beginning.

Some of Jesus’ last words before He died on the cross are “Father, forgive them for they do not know what they are doing.”

We have forgiveness and right standing with God, and empowered by this promise , we can live an overcoming life.

Someone who loves us suffered and died for us, so let us never forget it, and be determined to live a life worthy of that sacrifice - a tribute to honor Jesus Christ our Lord.
