4 March 2018 - Restoration for Every Regret in your Life - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online

(Originally preached by Pastor Joseph Prince live at Lakewood Church on 28 October 2017.)

God never plays catch-up. What God does is in the invisible realm and it will manifest physically.
What is of the flesh manifests quickly but is not comparable to what God does.
The devil always plays catch-up to what God is doing.
If you can’t tell what God is doing, see what the devil is doing in your life, reverse it, and you’ll know what God is doing.
Example: If you have sickness in your body, it’s because God has released health in your life.
The people of the world only see what the devil is doing, but we need to see what God is doing behind the scenes.
Don’t pray for God to move against what the devil is doing.
We need to pray to see what God has done and declare it!

Even when believers lose in the natural, they still win!
For example: Believers don’t die, they fall asleep. When a believer dies, he or she steps out from the body feeling even more alive!

Leviticus 6:4-6 - When God restores, it’s always better in quality and/or quantity!
There are five offerings under the Old Covenant to depict the one act of Jesus’ sacrifice at the cross.
This one is the fifth offering, the Trespass Offering.
Trespass Offering is for what you have done, Sin Offering is for who you are: by birth, human’s nature is sin because of Adam's sin.

“If you have sinned in any of these ways, you are guilty. You must give back whatever you stole, or the money you took by extortion, or the security deposit, or the lost property you found, or anything obtained by swearing falsely. You must make restitution by paying the full price plus an additional 20 percent to the person you have harmed. On the same day you must present a guilt offering. As a guilt offering to the Lord, you must bring to the priest your own ram with no defects, or you may buy one of equal value.” (Leviticus 6:4-6 NLT)

When Jesus was born, midnight became midday when angels and the star lit up the night sky.
When Jesus hung on the cross midday became midnight.
Jesus cried out “My God, My God, Why have you forsaken Me?”.
God forsook Him because at that moment, Jesus became our sin.
It’s a divine exchange. Jesus received our darkness and condemnation. We received Jesus’ righteousness and blessings.
Today our prayers avail much. Ours are prayers of a righteous man.

Despite all the evil things that were done to Joseph, he was restored with much more. God's restoration is always greater in quality or quantity than your losses.

Where sin abounds, grace superabounds - your restoration is much more!

Psalm 69:4 - The cross is a transaction between God the Son and God the Father. Psalm 69 is a Messianic Psalm. It's prophesying about what happened to Jesus.
Jesus has restored to God 120% of what God has lost.
God has become a positive Gainer by what Jesus has done at the cross.
God owes Satan nothing. The cross is the love of God making payment to the justice of God.
The cross is to bring us out of the market of sin. It's not a payment to Satan.
Now the justice of God cannot punish us because our sins have already been punished in Jesus who is our Substitute.

“Those who hate me without a cause Are more than the hairs of my head; They are mighty who would destroy me, Being my enemies wrongfully; Though I have stolen nothing, I still must restore it." (Psalms 69:4 NKJV)

Genesis 15:7-21 - When God cut a covenant with Abraham, He put Abraham to sleep.
The blood of animals was everywhere because the animals were divided in two.
The vultures that came down on the carcasses are demons - Jesus defined in a parable that the birds of the air that snatch away the seeds is the devil.
Abraham was trying to chase the birds away - he was trying to keep the covenant by his own efforts. God didn’t want it that way.
God crossed to the other side while Abraham was sleeping. It represents how Jesus took our place and suffered to pay for our sins.
While Abraham was sleeping, he saw in a vision that a Smoking Oven (a picture of God the Father appearing in a cloud of smoke on Mount Sinai) and a Burning Torch (Jesus the Light of the World) passed between the pieces.
That represents God the Father and God the Son cutting the covenant on behalf of Abraham - Jesus taking Abraham’s place.
That is because God didn’t want Abraham to be held accountable for it.
If Abraham and his descendants sin, the punishment of it falls on their representative which Jesus who cut the covenant with God the Father.

“Then He said to him, “I am the LORD, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans, to give you this land to inherit it.” And he said, “Lord GOD, how shall I know that I will inherit it?” So He said to him, “Bring Me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.” Then he brought all these to Him and cut them in two, down the middle, and placed each piece opposite the other; but he did not cut the birds in two. And when the vultures came down on the carcasses, Abram drove them away. Now when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram; and behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him. Then He said to Abram: “Know certainly that your descendants will be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and will serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years. And also the nation whom they serve I will judge; afterward they shall come out with great possessions. Now as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried at a good old age. But in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.” And it came to pass, when the sun went down and it was dark, that behold, there appeared a smoking oven and a burning torch that passed between those pieces. On the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the River Euphrates— the Kenites, the Kenezzites, the Kadmonites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Rephaim, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.”” (Genesis 15:7-21 NKJV)

Of all the twelve disciples, it was Peter who denied Jesus three times with cursing and swearing.
Judas betrayed Jesus and hung himself out of self-righteousness.
If Judas had just waited a few hours more, Jesus would have died on the cross for His sins.

Mark 16:7 - Despite having betrayed Jesus, Peter had a special mention in this angel's message. That’s the way grace works. Where sin increases, grace superabounds.

“But go, tell His disciples—and Peter--that He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him, as He said to you.”” (Mark 16:7 NKJV)

Romans 5:20 - God gave the Law so that man’s sins would abound, so that Man would recognize their need for a Savior. That’s the purpose of the Law.
“Abounded much more” is “huperperisio” which means to superabound.
The Apostle Paul was accused by listeners who challenged him saying, “What, should we sin so that grace might abound?”.
Paul must have been preaching strongly on “where sin abounds, grace superabounds” for the people to have misconstrued his words.
Why is this accusation not levelled against preachers as much as before today? It is because preachers are not preaching the same gospel that Paul did.

“Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,” (Romans 5:20 NKJV)

Of all the sons of David, God chose the son of Bathsheba, Solomon, to become the next king. This is despite David and Bathsheba's history of adultery. Where sin abounds, grace superabounds.

Despite having betrayed Jesus, Peter was restored by Jesus back to ministry. In the very area he failed (his mouth which he used for denying, cursing and swearing) he was restored when he preached on the Day of Pentecost and 3000 souls were saved! Where sin abounds, grace superabounds!

The beauty of God's restoration

Abraham was under the covenant of grace. He was a sleeping partner.

Genesis 20:1-9 - Sarah was Abraham's half-sister from their father's side. But Abraham wanted to lie.
God clarifies that Sarah is Abraham's wife.
Abraham lied and yet God says that Abimelech is dead.
Why is Abimelech declared dead?
It’s because God’s goodness is what will lead Abraham back to repentance.
God called Abraham a prophet even though Abraham just sinned.
When you have been justified by grace, you will experience God's goodness.
The goodness of God will lead you to repentance.

“And Abraham journeyed from there to the South, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur, and stayed in Gerar. Now Abraham said of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah. But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, “Indeed you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.” But Abimelech had not come near her; and he said, “Lord, will You slay a righteous nation also? Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she, even she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands I have done this.” And God said to him in a dream, “Yes, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart. For I also withheld you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her. Now therefore, restore the man’s wife; for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.” So Abimelech rose early in the morning, called all his servants, and told all these things in their hearing; and the men were very much afraid. And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, “What have you done to us? How have I offended you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done.”” (Genesis 20:1-9 NKJV)

If you’re naturally good looking and rely on your charms to get your way, you will realize that there’s no favor flowing in your life.
That’s because you’re confident in your own strength and flesh.
Favor flows when we recognize that we are weak.
The first martyr of the church Stephen said that Moses was a man “‘mighty in word and deed” when he was a prince of Egypt. At that time, God couldn’t use Moses because he was confident in his own strength.
But after Moses killed the Egyptian guard, he ran away from Egypt and lost all confidence in himself - He became a stutterer. That was when God could use him.

Exodus 22:1 - In that very area that the devil has robbed you from, God will restore to you much more! At least a 120% restoration!
God's principle of restoration makes the wronged party a gainer! Rejoice when you have been wronged because you are now in the position to be a gainer! Look to God for your restoration!

““If a man steals an ox or a sheep, and slaughters it or sells it, he shall restore five oxen for an ox and four sheep for a sheep.” (Exodus 22:1 NKJV)

God has reaped a greater harvest from the fields of redemption, than from creation.
In heaven, the redeemed shall sing and the angels cannot sing their song, but they will listen.

Joseph in the Book of Genesis represents Jesus.
At first his brothers did not recognize Joseph in Egypt (probably because of all the Egyptian eye makeup), but after that Joseph told them plainly that he was their brother and hugged them and wept on their shoulders. It was a moving reunion.
Jesus will come back for Israel and they will recognize Him as their Messiah. All Israel will be saved.
We are caught in the middle of a divine romance.
