14 January 2018 - Hesed Wisdom in Turning from Self to Jesus - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online

In the Hebrew Bible, everywhere the word “grace” appears, it is translated as “hesed”.

Psalm 136:5 - The word “mercy” is “hesed” in Hebrew and should be translated as grace.
Grace and wisdom appear together in one verse.

“To Him who by wisdom made the heavens, For His mercy endures forever;” (Psalms 136:5 NKJV)

Luke 2:40 - Again grace and wisdom appear together in one verse.

“And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.” (Luke 2:40 NKJV)

The ability to recognize your own flaws is wisdom itself.

You don’t need a winning lottery ticket to get what you want in life.
Whatever you want is found in wisdom.  Wisdom can bring you long life, riches, honor, pleasure and peace.

When you read the Book of Proverbs, riches is depicted as something that comes from God, whereas poverty is a shame.

I Kings 3:5-10 - "Great mercy" and "Great kindness" are both the same Hebrew words "hesed gadol" which means great grace.
Solomon probably learnt about grace from his father David who also understood grace.

Long before you see destruction there was pride.
Long before you see honor, humility was there.
Make wisdom your top prayer request this year.
In Wisdom’s right hand is long life and in the left hand is riches and honor. God gave Solomon what was in the left hand.
But the right hand came with conditions. Solomon died young because he was led astray by women and worshipped pagan idols.
Jesus is the right hand. He is seated at the right hand of God. You have long life because you have Jesus.

"At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?” And Solomon said: “You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. Now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.” (I Kings 3:5-10 NKJV)

II Timothy 3:15 - The word “child” in Hebrew is the word for infant. Even an infant can receive wisdom.

"And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." (II Timothy 3:15 NKJV)

I King 3:15 - The first thing when you receive wisdom is that you treasure the presence of God and you want to know more of the Lord Jesus Christ.

“Then Solomon awoke; and indeed it had been a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.” (I Kings 3:15 NKJV)

Solomon understood Hesed Wisdom. He probably learned it from his father King David. He had the wisdom to be humble and to ask for wisdom from God.

The Hesed Wisdom in knowing why God called Ethan and Heman wise men - the answers lie in Psalm 88 and 89.

We need to take back our masculinity and femininity respectively.
When you don’t make a decision and leave it to your wife, if she makes a wrong decision, don’t blame her.
It was you who gave her the authority to decide.
The man is the head of household - the final decision lies with him.

Esther 2:15-17 - When you submit you release wisdom. Esther participated in a beauty contest and when all the other contestants were choosing their own accessories and outfits, she asked the man in change for his recommendations.
When she appeared before the king, she obtained favor from him.
As a child, Jesus also submitted to His parents.

“Now when the turn came for Esther the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her as his daughter, to go in to the king, she requested nothing but what Hegai the king’s eunuch, the custodian of the women, advised. And Esther obtained favor in the sight of all who saw her. So Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus, into his royal palace, in the tenth month, which is the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign. The king loved Esther more than all the other women, and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins; so he set the royal crown upon her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.” (Esther 2:15-17 NKJV)

I Kings 4:29-34 - Solomon’s wisdom exceeded all the wisdom of the East! No names were mentioned of the wise men from the East.
However when it comes to the wise men of Israel, their names are mentioned.
Ethan is mentioned more than once in the Bible.
Psalm 88 was written by Heman.
Psalm 89 was written by Ethan.

“And God gave Solomon wisdom and exceedingly great understanding, and largeness of heart like the sand on the seashore. Thus Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the men of the East and all the wisdom of Egypt. For he was wiser than all men— than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol; and his fame was in all the surrounding nations. He spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs were one thousand and five. Also he spoke of trees, from the cedar tree of Lebanon even to the hyssop that springs out of the wall; he spoke also of animals, of birds, of creeping things, and of fish. And men of all nations, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom, came to hear the wisdom of Solomon.” (I Kings 4:29-34 NKJV)

Pastor Prince prayed for healing for people with cancer and declared that they will be healed, as led by the Holy Spirit.
The healing anointing is present in this sermon.

The Hebrew word “Chokmah” is usually used for wisdom.
There are 13 Maschil (instruction) Psalms in the Book of Psalms. The root word of Maschil is “Sakal” which means “good success”.

Psalms 88:1-7 - If someone comes under Law by thinking he can depend on his own efforts, this is the result - Death, darkness and destruction.
God called Heman (the author of this Psalm) a wise man because the first step to wisdom is to know yourself.
Jesus called the Pharisees blind because they claimed that they could see but were still blind to the truth.
Many Christians are depressed because they keep looking only at themselves.

“O LORD, God of my salvation, I have cried out day and night before You. Let my prayer come before You; Incline Your ear to my cry. For my soul is full of troubles, And my life draws near to the grave. I am counted with those who go down to the pit; I am like a man who has no strength, Adrift among the dead, Like the slain who lie in the grave, Whom You remember no more, And who are cut off from Your hand. You have laid me in the lowest pit, In darkness, in the depths. Your wrath lies heavy upon me, And You have afflicted me with all Your waves. Selah” (Psalms 88:1-7 NKJV)

Proverbs 20:2 - The devil goes about like a roaring lion and likes to impersonate Jesus to make you think that God is angry with you.

“The wrath of a king is like the roaring of a lion; Whoever provokes him to anger sins against his own life.” (Proverbs 20:2 NKJV)

Psalms 89:1-4 - God's grace is the solution to the darkness in Psalm 88.  The word “mercies” is hesed which is grace.

“I will sing of the mercies of the LORD forever; With my mouth will I make known Your faithfulness to all generations. For I have said, “Mercy shall be built up forever; Your faithfulness You shall establish in the very heavens.” “I have made a covenant with My chosen, I have sworn to My servant David: ‘Your seed I will establish forever, And build up your throne to all generations.’ ” Selah” (Psalms 89:1-4 NKJV)

Psalms 89:14-17 - Ethan the writer of this Psalm saw us, the people who would believe in Jesus and receive righteousness.
"Horn" refers to our power and strength.

“Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; Mercy and truth go before Your face. Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! They walk, O LORD, in the light of Your countenance. In Your name they rejoice all day long, And in Your righteousness they are exalted. For You are the glory of their strength, And in Your favor our horn is exalted.” (Psalms 89:14-17 NKJV)

The devil goes about like a roaring lion, impersonating Jesus to try and make you feel that God is angry with you. He points you to yourself and what you have or haven't done. Turn away from yourself and look to Jesus. It's not about you, it's all about Him!

Depression comes from being self-focused whereas victory comes from being Jesus-focused.

Ecclesiastes 2:3-11 - So many uses of the personal pronoun “I”. He was self-focused and that is the key to depression.
In ourselves, there is nothing good. In Jesus there is everything good.

“I searched in my heart how to gratify my flesh with wine, while guiding my heart with wisdom, and how to lay hold on folly, till I might see what was good for the sons of men to do under heaven all the days of their lives. I made my works great, I built myself houses, and planted myself vineyards. I made myself gardens and orchards, and I planted all kinds of fruit trees in them. I made myself water pools from which to water the growing trees of the grove. I acquired male and female servants, and had servants born in my house. Yes, I had greater possessions of herds and flocks than all who were in Jerusalem before me. I also gathered for myself silver and gold and the special treasures of kings and of the provinces. I acquired male and female singers, the delights of the sons of men, and musical instruments of all kinds. So I became great and excelled more than all who were before me in Jerusalem. Also my wisdom remained with me. Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, For my heart rejoiced in all my labor; And this was my reward from all my labor. Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done And on the labor in which I had toiled; And indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 2:3-11 NKJV)

Romans 7:4-6 - We are to be dead to the Law throughout our Christian life, not just at the point of salvation.
Ruth’s husband died before she could marry Boaz (whose name means “in him is strength”).

“Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.” (Romans 7:4-6 NKJV)

Romans 7:15-23 - This is the symptom of depression - being inward and self focused.
This is the thought process of a believer who put himself under the Law, because he or she wants to live holy but is unable to do so.  A sinner won't care about all these.
Pastor Joseph Prince doesn’t believe in writing new year resolutions - the moment you do that, evil is present.

“For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.” (Romans 7:15-23 NKJV)

Romans 7:24-8:1 - The solution to the Apostle Paul’s struggle is a “Who” - Jesus!
The condemnation here is talking about the condemnation that comes through your body of flesh.
Jesus is 100% God and 100% Man. He lived, died and conquered sin as a Man.
We are under no more condemnation because God measures us by Jesus.

“O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God--through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin. There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” (Romans 7:24-8:1 NKJV)

I John 4:17 - In ourselves, there’s nothing but ugliness.
But now our new identity is in Jesus. As He is so are we in this world.
If you understand this then you will have a vested interest to keep learning more about Jesus, your new identity.

“Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.” (I John 4:17 NKJV)

It’s not about you, it’s about Jesus. You will be happier by being Christ-occupied.
