14 January 2018 - Hesed Wisdom in Turning from Self to Jesus - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online In the Hebrew Bible, everywhere the word “grace” appears, it is translated as “hesed”. Psalm 136:5 - The word “mercy” is “hesed” in Hebrew and should be translated as grace. Grace and wisdom appear together in one verse. “To Him who by wisdom made the heavens, For His mercy endures forever;” (Psalms 136:5 NKJV) Luke 2:40 - Again grace and wisdom appear together in one verse. “And the Child grew and became strong in spirit, filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon Him.” (Luke 2:40 NKJV) The ability to recognize your own flaws is wisdom itself. You don’t need a winning lottery ticket to get what you want in life. Whatever you want is found in wisdom. Wisdom can bring you long life, riches, honor, pleasure and peace. When you read the Book of Proverbs, riches is depicted as something that comes from God, whereas poverty is a shame. I Kings 3:5-10 - "Great mercy" and "Great kindness" are both the same Hebrew words "hesed gadol" which means great grace. Solomon probably learnt about grace from his father David who also understood grace. Long before you see destruction there was pride. Long before you see honor, humility was there. Make wisdom your top prayer request this year. In Wisdom’s right hand is long life and in the left hand is riches and honor. God gave Solomon what was in the left hand. But the right hand came with conditions. Solomon died young because he was led astray by women and worshipped pagan idols. Jesus is the right hand. He is seated at the right hand of God. You have long life because you have Jesus. "At Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, “Ask! What shall I give you?” And Solomon said: “You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. Now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.” (I Kings 3:5-10 NKJV) II Timothy 3:15 - The word “child” in Hebrew is the word for infant. Even an infant can receive wisdom. "And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." (II Timothy 3:15 NKJV) I King 3:15 - The first thing when you receive wisdom is that you treasure the presence of God and you want to know more of the Lord Jesus Christ. “Then Solomon awoke; and indeed it had been a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.” (I Kings 3:15 NKJV)
