17 August 2014 - Pastor Brian Houston Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes - My Spirit, My Responsibility

Picture
Brian Houston (born 17 February 1954 in Auckland, New Zealand) is a pastor in the Australian Christian Churches. He is currently the Senior Pastor at Hillsong Church which has locations in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne in Australia, London, Cape Town, Kiev, Germany, Paris, Moscow, Stockholm, New York City and Copenhagen. He was also the National President of Australian Christian Churches from 1997 to 2009.

Proverbs 25:28 - People who have no rule over their own spirit are vulnerable to attacks from all directions.

"He who has no rule over his own spirit is like a city that is broken down and without walls. [Prov. 16:32.]" (Proverbs 25:28 AMP)

Daniel 6:3 - Daniel had an excellent spirit, and that allowed him to receive promotions.

"Then this Daniel was distinguished above the presidents and the satraps because an excellent spirit was in him, and the king thought to set him over the whole realm." (Daniel 6:3 AMP)

Psalm 51:10-12 - If it's possible to have a right spirit, it must be also possible to have a wrong spirit.

"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right, persevering, and steadfast spirit within me. Cast me not away from Your presence and take not Your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and uphold me with a willing spirit." (Psalm 51:10-12 AMP)

Our spirit will shine through our gift. Make sure you keep the right spirit.

1) A right spirit and obedience

Most people are too busy defending themselves to be teachable.

Proverbs 1:5 - Wise people will be open to receiving sound counsel from other wise people.

"The wise also will hear and increase in learning, and the person of understanding will acquire skill and attain to sound counsel [so that he may be able to steer his course rightly]–[Prov. 9:9.]" (Proverbs 1:5 AMP)

Mark 10:22 - Who do you allow to look at you, love you and give you good advice? Imagine what God had in store for the rich young man if he had followed Jesus!

"And Jesus, looking upon him, loved him, and He said to him, You lack one thing; go and sell all you have and give [the money] to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come [and] accompany Me [walking the same road that I walk]. At that saying the man's countenance fell and was gloomy, and he went away grieved and sorrowing, for he was holding great possessions." (Mark 10:21-22 AMP)

Exodus 18:23-24 - Moses had the humility to heed the advice of Jethro (his father-in-law). Sometimes we need to hear what we don't want to hear, but we need to hear.

"If you will do this, and God so commands you, you will be able to endure [the strain], and all these people also will go to their [tents] in peace. So Moses listened to and heeded the voice of his father-in-law and did all that he had said." (Exodus 18:23, 24 AMP)

2) A right spirit and position/promotion

2 Corinthians 10:12 - Trust God and be thankful for what we're blessed with.

"Not that we [have the audacity to] venture to class or [even to] compare ourselves with some who exalt and furnish testimonials for themselves! However, when they measure themselves with themselves and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding and behave unwisely." (2 Corinthians 10:12 AMP)

Your title doesn't give you spiritual authority. God's hand on your life does. This is an area you must trust God in.

Don't underestimate what having the right spirit can lead you to in life.

Don't take your esteem from things.

3) A right spirit and partnership

Don't think that everyone is blessed because of you. God puts people together for Kingdom purposes and Kingdom causes.

Acts 13:2 - Don't destroy your anointed partnerships because of small disputes.

"While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, Separate now for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." (Acts 13:2 AMP)

Don't treat too lightly the partnerships that God has put in your life. There is huge Kingdom opportunity in these partnerships. Who are these partners in your life? You cannot control or manipulate these partners.

2 Corinthians 6:14 - The next (spiritually) worse thing than an unbeliever is an unbelieving believer.

"Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers [do not make mismated alliances with them or come under a different yoke with them, inconsistent with your faith]. For what partnership have right living and right standing with God with iniquity and lawlessness? Or how can light have fellowship with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14 AMP)

4) A right spirit and failure

It's one thing to make a mistake, but it's another thing to keep making the same mistake again and again.

Do everything with the mindset that any mistakes that happen are your fault. Take responsibility for mistakes and your own life.

Sometimes we win and sometimes we learn. We don't lose, God can turn our mistake into a blessing/victory.

Our attitude towards failure is important. A failure can become a great opportunity for God to turn things around.

Never loan anyone anything you cannot afford to lose.

5) A right spirit and success

Money/ Success is not good or bad, but having Money/ Success will really show what's inside a person.

Always remember that we must give all glory to God for our successes. Success should not change us.

Don't be too moved by all the accolades and don't be affected by criticism. Always be humble and keep doing what God has called you to do.

For some people, getting more success means becoming less generous. Give freely, don't practice controlled giving.

Momentum can hide the cracks. Always remember that it's all glory to God and not about you.

Stay authentic and keep the right people around you who love you enough to tell you what you need to hear, and not only what you want to hear.

Keep a good spirit in success. God can bless you even more.

6) A right spirit and sabotage

You cannot afford to allow people who have a poor spirit to sabotage you by their attitude.

Psalm 101:3-4 - Stay away from wrong spirits that aim to cling to you. Some people's heart's are shifted the wrong way. Keep a free spirit.

"I will set no base or wicked thing before my eyes. I hate the work of them who turn aside [from the right path]; it shall not grasp hold of me. A perverse heart shall depart from me; I will know no evil person or thing." (Psalm 101:3, 4 AMP)

If you didn't hear it with your own ears, or see it with your own eyes, don't invent it with your small mind or speak it with your big mouth.

7) A right spirit and opposition

Never develop a wounded spirit. Don't allow anyone to control your free spirit in a negative way.

5 Life Lessons that I Learnt from "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (Spoilers Ahead!)

5 Life Lessons that I Learnt from "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (Spoilers Ahead!)

1) United we stand, Divided we fall. Teamwork is absolutely important.

Picture
The Turtles are all uniquely skilled and talented. Together, they are truly powerful as a team. Individually, they are vulnerable, as can be seen from Shredder's easy victory over Raphael.

2) If you are truly hungry to succeed in your passion, you will have the courage to do whatever it takes.

Picture
April O'Neal is passionate about her journalism career and is willing to brave dangers of secretly photographing the 'vigilantes' and the Footclan, to obtain a news-worthy story to cover. When we are passionate about something, our desire for success in it is greater than our fear of failure.

3) If you see an evil-looking 'good' guy in a movie and you think he's actually a villain-in-disguise, you're probably right!

Picture
I couldn't resist putting this as one of the 5 Life Lessons! The moment Eric Sacks made his first appearance on-screen, I knew he was a villain. They need to select more kind and nice looking actors to make it less obvious!

4) Evil demands submission by instilling fear. Good  leaders produce obedience through love.

Picture
Shredder planned to rule New York through fear and domination. In contrast, Master Splinter earned the love and respect of the Turtles through raising them up and training them to become warriors. Fear only produces obedience out of the lack of choice, but love produces long-term loyalty.

5) Preparation is absolutely vital in overcoming your enemies and achieve victory.

Picture
It is only after many years of honing their fighting skills that Master Splinter and the Turtles were able to be a match for Shredder. Victory belongs to those who are prepared to receive it. Malcolm Gladwell shares in his book, "Outliers", that 10,000 hours of practice will make you an expert in a particular field.

10 August 2014 - Inheriting God's Promises - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes

God's way is to use the weak to confound the mighty.

To blow the ram's horn (which is obtained from the death of the ram) is proclaiming the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and proclaiming the gospel.

The barley bread (the bread that poor people of that time ate) that gave Gideon encouragement and boldness represents the Lord Jesus Christ. He came as a humble carpenter to save us. The barley bread smashes the tents of strife.

Love your neighbor. Do what we can with what we have.

Deuteronomy 32:8-9 - After the Great Flood, God divided the lands of the earth and placed everyone where He purposefully chose.

"When the Most High divided their inheritance to the nations, When He separated the sons of Adam, He set the boundaries of the peoples According to the number of the children of Israel. For the LORD’s portion is His people; Jacob is the place of His inheritance. (Deuteronomy 32:8, 9 NKJV)"

In the Old Testament, the devil is always trying to kill a godly child, to prevent the promised seed from coming. He is trying to stop Bible prophecy from coming to pass.

Matthew 24 is written to the Jews and speaking to Israel regarding the end times, not to the Gentile believers.

John 14 is written to us Gentile believers, suggesting a "private enrapturing of Gentile believers", before the Tribulation happens.

Satan has always tried to prevent this prophecy from coming to pass by trying to prevent the birth of the promised Messiah -
Satan has always tried to prevent this prophecy from coming to pass by trying to prevent the birth of the promised Messiah - "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel." (Genesis 3:15, NKJV) He has failed and is forever a defeated foe!

Obadiah 1:17 - It is one thing to have an inheritance and it is another thing to inherit it.

"But on Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, And there shall be holiness; The house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. (Obadiah 1:17 NKJV)"

Heir - the receiver of a promised inheritance by right of sonship. We are a full-fledged son of God the moment we receive Jesus as Lord of our lives.

Romans 4:13-14 - We are promised to be the "heir of the world" (includes promises of health, provision, etc), not by the Law, but by righteousness of faith (which is a gift from God).

"For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect, (Romans 4:13, 14 NKJV)"

Galatians 4:21- 5:1 - You cannot live a holy life by the Law. The Law gives birth to bondage. The devil does not want us to inherit God's promises effortlessly.

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1 NKJV)"

Believers are constrained from wrongdoing through the love of Christ and not by fear (short-term).

Psalm 44:3 - We have victory because of God's favor, not because of our strength or ability.

"For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, Nor did their own arm save them; But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, Because You favored them. (Psalms 44:3 NKJV)"

Exodus 23:25-30 - Everything needs God's blessing. We all inherit, but we don't inherit with the same measure. We inherit little by little experientially as we increase (parah - fruitful) more and more, so that we can handle the huge blessings coming our way.

"So you shall serve the LORD your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you. No one shall suffer miscarriage or be barren in your land; I will fulfill the number of your days. “I will send My fear before you, I will cause confusion among all the people to whom you come, and will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite from before you. I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land. (Exodus 23:25-30 NKJV)"

David did not slay Goliath based on his own strength or ability. It was because of God's favor and God fought for him.
David did not slay Goliath based on his own strength or ability. It was because of God's favor and God fought for him.

Genesis 1:28 - Steps to have dominion - 1) Be fruitful 2) multiply 3) fill the earth 4) subdue 5) have dominion

"Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” (Genesis 1:28 NKJV)"

Acts 20:29-32 - The word of God's grace builds believers up and gives us our inheritance.

"For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves. Therefore watch, and remember that for three years I did not cease to warn everyone night and day with tears. “So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. (Acts 20:29-32 NKJV)"

Our emotions are a red flag and a sign of what we believe. The solution is to fill our minds and hearts with words of grace.

Genesis 15:8-9 - We inherit God's promises for our lives through the finished work of our Lord Jesus Christ. Proclaim Jesus's death. Jesus's ministry while He was on earth before His death and resurrection lasted 3 years.

"And he said, “Lord GOD, how shall I know that I will inherit it?” So He said to him, “Bring Me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.” (Genesis 15:8, 9 NKJV)"

1 Corinthians 11:26 - We are blessed when we proclaim the Lord's death.

"For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes. (I Corinthians 11:26 NKJV)"

1 Samuel 7:10 - When we proclaim the Lord's death, we will confuse our enemies.

"Now as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering, the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel. But the LORD thundered with a loud thunder upon the Philistines that day, and so confused them that they were overcome before Israel. (I Samuel 7:10 NKJV)"

1 Peter 1:4 - Our inheritance is incorruptible (not subject to death), undefiled (cannot be defiled by sin), does not fade away (not subject to time), is enjoyed on earth and safeguarded in heaven.

"to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, (I Peter 1:4 NKJV)"

Mankind was originally created by God to have dominion over earth and all its creatures, but we lost these rights when Adam and Eve committed the first sin, obeying Satan. Thankfully, Jesus has reclaimed the earth and stripped Satan of the power of death, by His death and resurrection. Now Jesus rules all and we share in this inheritance with Him!

I highly recommend purchasing Pastor Prince's sermons on his mobile app "Joseph Prince" on Apple App Store or Google Play Store even after you read these notes as I may have missed out something he shared and the overall experience is definitely different when you listen to him preaching directly!
Use these notes as a revision guide instead of solely depending on them!

These sermon notes are independently-compiled by me, and I'm just a loyal and regular attendee of the the church's Sunday services, and I feel led to take detailed personal sermon notes of Pastor Prince's anointed messages to share them with the world, which desperately needs the true word of God and the original gospel of grace.

I feel blessed to be able to attend Pastor Joseph Prince's services in person, and would like to help everyone who isn't able to attend in person, to get hold of the messages as soon as it is preached!
