27 May 2018 - The Law of Plunder: No Battle No Spoils - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon NotesPraise and Worship songs performed: (I missed out the ones before - please let me know if you remember the songs) God You’re So Good - Passion The people who fight for the Law most of the time can’t even memorize the Ten Commandments. We are dead to the Law. It is possible to obey the Commandment not to steal and yet you can remain a miser (stingy). It is possible to obey the Commandment not to commit adultery, and yet you can have a loveless marriage. Grace always empowers one to go further: to be generous and loving. People who have a bondage to pornography will have an unhappy marriage with lots of strife. There will be a lack of sexual satisfaction with the spouse. Pastor Prince shared a testimony about a student who was bound to pornography. He was delivered by regularly declaring that he is the righteousness of God in Christ. Confess it even if you feel like a hypocrite saying it. There is power in the confession. People should sense royalty when you come into a room - not pride or ‘holier than thou’ attitude, but a dignity like Jesus. Numbers 31:25-31 - Eleazar was the High Priest after Aaron. Eleazar was Aaron’s son. Eleazar means “Helper”. To be in touch with the High Priest means touching nearness to God. Today our High Priest is Jesus. Through Him we have nearness to God. The Levites were the assistants to the priests. The priests assisted the High Priest. There are degrees of closeness to God: Jesus had 70 disciples. Out of the 70, there were the 12 disciples who walked closely with Jesus. Out of the 12, there were 3 disciples - Peter, James and John who were in Jesus’ inner circle. Out of the 3, there was 1 - John. The closest to Jesus, who leaned on and listened to the heartbeat of God. The plunder is divided into two parts. Between: 1) Those who went to battle, 2) The congregation (who didn’t go to battle). The Lord gets a tribute as well - similar to the tithing principle. The heave offering (In Hebrew: Terumah) is one of the highest offerings to give to the Lord. It is given to the high priest - the one who is nearest to God. The ones who went to battle give 1 out of every 500 as a tribute to the Lord. The ones who stayed back from battle give 1 out of every 50 as a tribute to the Lord. The ones who went to battle get much more spoils - 10 times more. They are nearer to God. Today our battles are spiritual: we battle/labor by spending time in God’s word to uncover treasures from it. Those who labor in the word will receive much more spoils and nearness to God than those who just use the sermons from others who spent time to meditate on God’s word. We can also go to battle by serving the Lord despite all the attacks from the enemy. Those who didn’t go to battle pay their tributes to the Levites. The offering doesn’t go higher. “Now the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: “Count up the plunder that was taken—of man and beast—you and Eleazar the priest and the chief fathers of the congregation; and divide the plunder into two parts, between those who took part in the war, who went out to battle, and all the congregation. And levy a tribute for the LORD on the men of war who went out to battle: one of every five hundred of the persons, the cattle, the donkeys, and the sheep; take it from their half, and give it to Eleazar the priest as a heave offering to the LORD. And from the children of Israel’s half you shall take one of every fifty, drawn from the persons, the cattle, the donkeys, and the sheep, from all the livestock, and give them to the Levites who keep charge of the tabernacle of the LORD.” So Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the LORD commanded Moses.” (Numbers 31:25-31 NKJV)
