27 September 2015 - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online - Inheriting God's Promises Through Righteousness Of Faith Acts 8:26-40 - New believers shouldn't only rely on reading the Bible on their own to understand the things of God. Teachers are in the church to help and teach them. Just like Philip who was sent by God to teach the Ethiopian eunuch about the Book of Isaiah and about Jesus. After preaching the gospel to the eunuch and baptizing him, Philip was supernaturally bodily-transported to another location by God. “Now an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, saying, “Arise and go toward the south along the road which goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” This is desert. So he arose and went. And behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace the queen of the Ethiopians, who had charge of all her treasury, and had come to Jerusalem to worship, was returning. And sitting in his chariot, he was reading Isaiah the prophet. Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go near and overtake this chariot.” So Philip ran to him, and heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you are reading?” And he said, “How can I, unless someone guides me?” And he asked Philip to come up and sit with him. The place in the Scripture which he read was this: “He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He opened not His mouth. In His humiliation His justice was taken away, And who will declare His generation? For His life is taken from the earth.” So the eunuch answered Philip and said, “I ask you, of whom does the prophet say this, of himself or of some other man?” Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning at this Scripture, preached Jesus to him. Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing. But Philip was found at Azotus. And passing through, he preached in all the cities till he came to Caesarea.” (Acts 8:26-40 NKJV) Jeremiah 23:1-4 - Pastor Joseph Prince's new book, "Grace Revolution" is about teaching us to become righteousness-conscious and not self-occupied. His book is based on Jeremiah 23, that God will set up shepherds who will feed the church instead of destroying the church. ““Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!” says the LORD. Therefore thus says the LORD God of Israel against the shepherds who feed My people: “You have scattered My flock, driven them away, and not attended to them. Behold, I will attend to you for the evil of your doings,” says the LORD. “But I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all countries where I have driven them, and bring them back to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase. I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them; and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, nor shall they be lacking,” says the LORD.” (Jeremiah 23:1-4 NKJV) Righteousness is received by faith. Some people are trying to produce enough righteousness on their own to offset their bad works. An illustration: An ant can do his best, but his best will never be good enough to become like a human. When we look at a person, what we define as good is outward, but we can't see what is inwards. We can't see the motive of why people do the things that they do. Some people are using their good works to earn their own righteousness, as a replacement for Jesus. If you follow Jesus, money will follow you. God is not against money. Some people do Christian things and serve God for money. But money is not everything, Jesus is. Mark 10:17-18 - Jesus is not flattered by man. You cannot flatter Him into having a good opinion of you. He loves you, but it's not because of your flattery. “Now as He was going out on the road, one came running, knelt before Him, and asked Him, “Good Teacher, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?” So Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God.” (Mark 10:17-18 NKJV) New believers shouldn't only rely on reading the Bible on their own to understand the things of God. Galatians 1:6-9 - If you have a ministry with a lot of influence, be careful. There is a double-curse pronounced on preachers who preach any other gospel than the gospel of Christ. “I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:6-9 NKJV) Romans 10:9-10 - Forgiveness is different from righteousness. Righteousness means that you can't have a charge made against you in court. Vine's Dictionary: First two definitions of "Salvation" - (a) deliverance from molestation of enemies. (b) preservation of physical life. The word "salvation" in Hebrew is "sozo" which means safety from danger, healing, salvation from hell, wholeness, etc. Evil spirits exist, but if you are a believer, they have no right to touch you. “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10 NKJV) When righteousness by faith is preached, it seems like all hell breaks loose. Jesus is your Righteousness. There can be no charge leveled against you because there is no charge that can be leveled against Jesus! Self-righteousness is the mother of all sins. Genesis 4:2-7 - Cain approached God and believed that he had some righteousness of his own. But Abel believed that he has no righteousness of his own. The humility of bringing a lamb is admitting that he is a sinner. “Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD. Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering, but He did not respect Cain and his offering. And Cain was very angry, and his countenance fell. So the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”” (Genesis 4:2-7 NKJV) Luke 10:30-37 - Setting the injured man on his own animal means that the Samaritan is letting the man take his own place. The inn represents the church. Like Jesus, the Samaritan let the man stay in the inn for two days before he would return. A day with the Lord is as a thousand years. (II Peter 3:8) Two days represents 2000 years. “Then Jesus answered and said: “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’ So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?” And he said, “He who showed mercy on him.” Then Jesus said to him, “Go and do likewise.”” (Luke 10:30-37 NKJV) Revelation 11:7-10 - People criticized the Bible and said that it's impossible for this to happen. But it's possible now with television and satellite. The Bible is way more advanced than its time. Some people sit in judgment of the Bible with their puny minds when it should be the Bible that sits in judgment of them. The Bible consists the eternal words of God. “When they finish their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit will make war against them, overcome them, and kill them. And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. Then those from the peoples, tribes, tongues, and nations will see their dead bodies three-and-a-half days, and not allow their dead bodies to be put into graves. And those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them, make merry, and send gifts to one another, because these two prophets tormented those who dwell on the earth.” (Revelation 11:7-10 NKJV) Colossians 1:17 - We all had no choice to be born in this world, but God had a choice. “And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” (Colossians 1:17 NKJV) Thank God for your food. The world doesn't care about using the 'F-word' and vulgarities in your presence. Why should you be ashamed of thanking the One who has blessed you with your food? Isaiah 40:15 - Dust on the scale cannot tip the scale. It is insignificant. All the nations of the world are so small in the eyes of God. God humbled Himself and lived among the dust when Jesus came to earth as a Man. “Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, And are counted as the small dust on the scales; Look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing.” (Isaiah 40:15 NKJV) By all means, eat well, but trust in God for your health. Unless it is bestowed to you from God, you don't have it. Don't trust in creation, trust in God who is the Creator. John 5:5-6 - Some people don't want to be made well. That's why Jesus asked the man this question. “Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?”” (John 5:5-6 NKJV) Philippians 2:9-11 - It is either people bow now to God and be saved, or else they will still bow to God in hell on the account of His righteousness. “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:9-11 NKJV) Isaiah 45:23-25 - This is the greatest oath in the universe. When we bow to God, we shall receive His glory. "Strength" here is "uz". It is talking about physical strength. Physical strength is received from God. “I have sworn by Myself; The word has gone out of My mouth in righteousness, And shall not return, That to Me every knee shall bow, Every tongue shall take an oath. He shall say, ‘Surely in the LORD I have righteousness and strength. To Him men shall come, And all shall be ashamed Who are incensed against Him. In the LORD all the descendants of Israel Shall be justified, and shall glory.’ ”” (Isaiah 45:23-25 NKJV) Repentance means we change our thoughts to God's thoughts. The devil knows that the day when you step into the righteousness of Another (Jesus), you will reign in life. That's why he attacks this teaching. Setting the injured man on his own animal means that the Samaritan is letting the man take his own place. The inn represents the church. Like Jesus, the Samaritan let the man stay in the inn for two days before he would return. A day with the Lord is as a thousand years. (II Peter 3:8) Two days represents 2000 years. Romans 4:13-15 - All of us believers are Abraham's seed through Christ. We become heirs of the world through the righteousness of faith, not by obedience to the Law. The word "righteousness" is a judicial word used in the court of law. Jesus is our righteousness. Righteousness is a gift. “For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect, because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression.” (Romans 4:13-15 NKJV) Genesis 27:5-13 - After Rebekah and Jacob conspired to deceive Isaac, Rebekah died without ever seeing Jacob again. She spoke and took a curse upon herself. We reign in life through the confession of our mouths. Be careful about trying to live your dreams through the life of your children. Let God push them up and promote them. Please love your children. “Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt game and to bring it. So Rebekah spoke to Jacob her son, saying, “Indeed I heard your father speak to Esau your brother, saying, ‘Bring me game and make savory food for me, that I may eat it and bless you in the presence of the LORD before my death.’ Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to what I command you. Go now to the flock and bring me from there two choice kids of the goats, and I will make savory food from them for your father, such as he loves. Then you shall take it to your father, that he may eat it, and that he may bless you before his death.” And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, “Look, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth- skinned man. Perhaps my father will feel me, and I shall seem to be a deceiver to him; and I shall bring a curse on myself and not a blessing.” But his mother said to him, “ Let your curse be on me, my son; only obey my voice, and go, get them for me.”" (Genesis 27:5-13 NKJV) Genesis 28:15-16 - Jacob was the grandson of Abraham. He is an heir of the world through righteousness by faith. God said this to Jacob after he just deceived his father to get the first-born blessing. “Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.” Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I did not know it. ”” (Genesis 28:15-16 NKJV) God has ways to discipline us, but He disciplines us in love. Genesis 33:18-20, 34:1 - Jacob pitched his tent facing the city and bought the piece of land, as if settling down and loving what the world has to offer. Jacob was not supposed to be living there. He was supposed to be living in Bethel. Dinah wasn't courting trouble - she didn't go out to look for men, she went out to see the "daughters of the land". “Then Jacob came safely to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan Aram; and he pitched his tent before the city. And he bought the parcel of land, where he had pitched his tent, from the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money. Then he erected an altar there and called it El Elohe Israel. Now Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she had borne to Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.” (Genesis 33:18-20, 34:1 NKJV) Genesis 34:2-4 - As a parent, don't be afraid to say no to your daughter. As a husband, you are the head of your household. Don't abdicate your role of leadership. What you allow will happen. “And when Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he took her and lay with her, and violated her. His soul was strongly attracted to Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the young woman and spoke kindly to the young woman. So Shechem spoke to his father Hamor, saying, “Get me this young woman as a wife.”” (Genesis 34:2-4 NKJV) Genesis 49:5 - Simeon and Levi are said to have instruments of cruelty in their dwelling place – they committed atrocious acts of murder and plundering in the city of Shechem. “Simeon and Levi are brothers; Instruments of cruelty are in their dwelling place.” (Genesis 49:5 NKJV) Genesis 34:30-31 - Simeon and Levi's statement doesn't justify their actions of murdering and plundering the city of Shechem. Jacob's disobedience to God's will (living in Bethel) led to the tragedy and chaos in Shechem. Jacob used the personal pronoun 8 times here. He was so self-occupied. He forgot God's promise that he would be protected. “Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have troubled me by making me obnoxious among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites; and since I am few in number, they will gather themselves together against me and kill me. I shall be destroyed, my household and I.” But they said, “Should he treat our sister like a harlot?”” (Genesis 34:30-31 NKJV) Genesis 35:1-5 - God didn't bring up the issue of the murdering and plundering in the city of Shechem, but he told Jacob to go back to 'Plan A' - go back to Bethel and dwell there. God is so cool in the way He handles things. Occult items like horoscopes, amulets, talismans, belong to the devil. Don't allow the things of the devil to be in your house. When you flow with God, God's protection will be upon you. “Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there; and make an altar there to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.” And Jacob said to his household and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, and change your garments. Then let us arise and go up to Bethel; and I will make an altar there to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me in the way which I have gone.” So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the terebinth tree which was by Shechem. And they journeyed, and the terror of God was upon the cities that were all around them, and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.” (Genesis 35:1-5 NKJV) Some Christians can't believe that God will bless them with more if they give up something. They make decisions based on what is more profitable for themselves, not trusting that when they sacrifice for God, they will receive much more profits. Genesis 28:12 - At the place which he named "Bethel", while he was asleep, Jacob saw this in a dream. “Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it.” (Genesis 28:12 NKJV) John 1:51 - The place of Bethel is where the treasures of heaven are being poured out and delivered by angels. In Jesus, heaven and earth are connected. In Jesus, blessings come down from heaven upon us. “And He said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.”” (John 1:51 NKJV) Pastor Joseph Prince speaks prophetically: God is watching over you more than you think. God doesn't discipline with diseases or accidents. God disciplines sometimes with closed doors, through disappointments, through not giving us what we want. Maybe sometimes we are too self-occupied and obsessed with material goods. Believe that when you seek God's kingdom first, all these blessings will be added unto you. Believe that whatever you give up for Jesus, you will receive a hundredfold more in this life. 20 September 2015 - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online - God Is Our Rewarder And Our Exceedingly Great Reward! When God gives fame, it is for the gospel to be made known to more people. If you believe that you have the right interpretation of Scripture, then let God give you the reach, favor and influence. We are the ones who robbed God of His glory, but Jesus has restored to God 120% more praise, honor and glory! "Much more" is mentioned 5 times in Romans 5. Jesus's death has restored to us much more good things than before Adam's sin in the Garden of Eden. Grace is all about the Lord Jesus, not about you and I. Pastors are shepherds who are not above their congregation, but they are under their congregation, pushing them up towards the Lord Jesus. Long before the devil can rob you of your blessings, he comes as the "accuser", not the killer. 1 Corinthians 15:10 - Is there a difference between "grace" and "rewards"? Grace is the unmerited favor of God towards us. If God has given you the grace to do something, God will reward you for flowing in the grace that He has given you. Example, if God releases favor on you to be in a children's ministry, you will be given the love for children and the ability to serve, from God. "“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.” (I Corinthians 15:10 NKJV) How do you reward employees in your company of you are the boss of a company/ organization? If you see a person producing more fruits in the company, it means that he is flowing with the grace that has been given to him/her from God. Give that person more rewards. If you are defined by material wealth, you are a poor person. True wealth is being defined by your relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. |
