13 May 2018 - Find Rest in Being Quick to Listen - New Creation Church Sermon Notes - Pastor Mark Ng Sermon Notes

Power of your Presence - Jodie Teyna

Whatever God calls for, He will definitely supply and bless.

Mothers have a special blessing to supply them for their parenting role.

God wants to bless the ‘Marthas’.
Martha is an elder sister so she’s used to sacrificing, giving and serving. It comes from a place of love.
But she forgot that Jesus was in her home and that she can receive and rest in Him.

Miriam was Moses’ elder sister. She was running by the riverside to make sure that Moses was safe.
Miriam told the Egyptian princess about her mum who can nurse Moses for her.
Miriam was worried and looking out for Moses’ well-being.
Elder sisters must learn how to let go when God comes into their lives.

James 1:19-20 - Sarai became Sarah. She was a domineering woman and she needed to know that she is a princess (Sarah means Princess) in Christ, that she can rest.
We need to learn to be quick to listen, and slow to speak. This is humility and helping to improve the family connection.
God wants a woman to woo her man: to respect her husband and have a great relationship with her husband.
Don’t only talk with him about the kids. Remember that you and your husband are important too.
This will prevent loneliness in the future when the kids are all grown up and when only you and your husband are left at home.

“So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God.” (James 1:19-20 NKJV)

You need the Lord in every step of your life.
Students who are believers have an unfair advantage: parents can’t follow them into the exam hall but the Holy Spirit can.
God wants to be unfairly good to you.
God is kind and merciful: He also knows how you feel and your pains.

God calls us endearingly by name: Martha, Martha. He knows that we are concerned about many things.
God wants us to stay young. Even though we grow in age, we can still have the same youthful appearance.
The power of Christ in us has the ability to do that.

What is the good part that Mary chose? Mary saw Jesus as the Almighty God who came to serve us.
Mary could do the right thing at the right time: she was the only one who anointed Jesus for His burial before His death.

God wants us to be humble like Jesus - quick to listen and slow to speak. When we do so, we can find rest in Him, for He will lead us through the Holy Spirit and we can cease from our self efforts.

Jesus shows us the meaning of being humble

When we receive Jesus in our lives, our organic family will be changed.
God wants us to come to the House of God because there is an open heaven in His house which has the power to change our house. Keep coming to hear His word.

Grace is not a doctrine, it is not a subject, it is the Person of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 11:28-29 - Never have an attitude of “oh I already know this verse”. Always remain humble as if you don’t know.
Once you say you’re full, it’s very hard for Jesus to fill you.
God gives grace to the humble.
Jesus wants to teach us how to rest.
Jesus said He is humble. What does “humble” mean?

“Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”” (Matthew 11:29-30 NLT)

John 5:30 - Being humble means you don’t know what to do on your own except for what you are guided by the Holy Spirit.
We have a tendency to judge first and think that we can do it on our own. That’s why we can’t rest.
God wants us to hear from Him first. Hearing is humility.

“I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.” (John 5:30 NKJV)

John 8:28 - Jesus kept on listening for the Father to teach Him. This is humility.

“Then Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.” (John 8:28 NKJV)

Find rest by humbly seeking God first in all matters of life

I Samuel 30:1-8 - Are your children led astray by bad company or addictions? The Lord said we can be of good cheer because He has overcome the world. The Lord sees something that we don’t see.
6 is the number of man. Verse 6 says that David was greatly distressed.
7 is the number of rest (God created the world and then rested on the 7th day). Verse 7 is the answer to David’s stress: David means “beloved”, Abiathar means “my Father is great” and Ahimelech means “my Brother is King”.
We can rest when we know our identity: Know that you are beloved, that your Heavenly Father is great, and that your Brother Jesus is King.
We have a tendency to jump to action if our family members are captured, but David had an amazing revelation - He was a man under the Old Covenant who had a New Covenant mentality.
He had the wisdom to pause and seek the Lord first. He knew that he cannot do it alone.

“Now it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag, on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the South and Ziklag, attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire, and had taken captive the women and those who were there, from small to great; they did not kill anyone, but carried them away and went their way. So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept, until they had no more power to weep. And David’s two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite, had been taken captive. Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God. Then David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son, “Please bring the ephod here to me.” And Abiathar brought the ephod to David. So David inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” And He answered him, “Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all. ”” (I Samuel 30:1-8 NKJV)

Mothers tend to want to save others first before themselves.
An example: In a plane emergency, the oxygen masks drop and the instruction is for parents to wear it for themselves first before wearing it for the kids.
Some mothers try to wear it for their kids first while they themselves are suffocating due to lack of oxygen.
That’s why they end up nagging - because they’re not operating out of rest. Mothers need to wear the oxygen mask (Jesus) first - grace is the air we breathe.
Jesus is the Savior - He is the Expert at saving. He is good to save and quick to save. You can rely on Him.

I Kings 3:7-10 - Tell God that you don’t know so you can receive wisdom from Him in all matters of life.
Solomon asked for a God-listening heart. We can’t live an overcoming life only by having heard.
We have to keep on hearing and hearing the word of God.

““And now here I am: GOD, my God, you have made me, your servant, ruler of the kingdom in place of David my father. I’m too young for this, a mere child! I don’t know the ropes, hardly know the ‘ins’ and ‘outs’ of this job. And here I am, set down in the middle of the people you’ve chosen, a great people—far too many to ever count.
“Here’s what I want: Give me a God-listening heart so I can lead your people well, discerning the difference between good and evil. For who on their own is capable of leading your glorious people?” God, the Master, was delighted with Solomon’s response. And God said to him, “Because you have asked for this and haven’t grasped after a long life, or riches, or the doom of your enemies, but you have asked for the ability to lead and govern well, I’ll give you what you’ve asked for—I’m giving you a wise and mature heart. There’s never been one like you before; and there’ll be no one after. As a bonus, I’m giving you both the wealth and glory you didn’t ask for—there’s not a king anywhere who will come up to your mark. And if you stay on course, keeping your eye on the life-map and the God-signs as your father David did, I’ll also give you a long life.”” (1 Kings 3:7-14 MSG)

John 20:19-20 - Jesus will comfort you and help you in your fears.

“Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.” (John 20:19-20 NKJV)

John 20:26 - Even when you are doubting, Jesus will still be there for you. In your weakness, He can be strong for you.

“And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, “Peace to you!”” (John 20:26 NKJV)

Luke 24:15,17 - Even when you are sad, Jesus will draw near to you.

“So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them.
And He said to them, “What kind of conversation is this that you have with one another as you walk and are sad?”” (Luke 24:15, 17 NKJV)

I highly recommend purchasing Pastor Prince's sermons on his mobile app "Joseph Prince" on Apple App Store or Google Play Store even after you read these notes as I may have missed out something he shared and the overall experience is definitely different when you listen to him preaching directly!
Use these notes as a revision guide instead of solely depending on them!

These sermon notes are independently-compiled by me, and I'm just a loyal and regular attendee of the the church's Sunday services, and I feel led to take detailed personal sermon notes of Pastor Prince's anointed messages to share them with the world, which desperately needs the true word of God and the original gospel of grace.

I feel blessed to be able to attend Pastor Joseph Prince's services in person, and would like to help everyone who isn't able to attend in person, to get hold of the messages as soon as it is preached!
