5 Life Lessons and Moral Value that I Learnt from "The Maze Runner" (Spoilers Ahead!) - The Maze Runner Series

1) Comparatively, very few people have the courage to step out of their comfort zone.

In "The Maze Runner", only a few of the Gladers (Thomas, Teresa, Newt, Minho) successfully escaped from the simulation, and these people possessed courage and attributes of leadership. Few people readily exhibit these traits! Some people, like Gally, play the role of a 'Dreamstealer' in our lives, who keep trying to keep us in our comfort zone and to not take any risks!

2) When we find ourselves in an unfamiliar situation, sometimes we have to take a risk by trusting someone more experienced.

After Teresa awoke from her coma, she realised that she lost her memory and the only thing she remembered was her name. Connected by similar recurring dreams, she decided to trust Thomas even though she didn't know who he was. In that situation, there were few other choices.

3) There is no guarantee of success in life, and there is always a risk of failure. Ultimately it's a test of your physical, mental and spiritual strength!

To me, the Glade in "The Maze Runner" is a metaphor for our comfort zones (or jobs). Supplies come regularly and life is peaceful, but there is no true freedom. Like Chuck, the Gladers long to return to their true homes but the fear of dying in the maze prevents them trying to. In life, there is always a level of risk we have to bear. The successful ones are admirable because they overcame their fears, accepted the risk, and came out successful!

4) In an emergency, people will rally around a strong leader for direction and be open to trying something new.

When the Glade was overcome by Grievers, the Gladers rallied around the courageous leader, Thomas. What they never dared to do, they now did, due to the severity of their circumstances. Many people wait until crisis strikes before doing they will risk leaving their comfort zones.

5) There is danger out there in the world. However we shouldn't let that stop us from achieving freedom. We can be victorious, even over our worst nightmares!

Yes there are ugly, dangerous Grievers in the maze, and they can kill, but Thomas defeated and killed one! Later on, the small group of Gladers killed more Grievers. Often, the strength of our enemies are only as big as we make it in our minds, and if we have to courage to face them, we can have victory through support, faith and persistence!
