19 May 2019 - Holiness by Grace - Pastor Lawrence Lim Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Note

Praise and Worship songs performed:

(I missed out  some songs before this)
  1. Wonderful (Grace Made Real) - New Creation Worship
  2. When I Look Into Your Holiness - Integrity Hosanna! Music

The Christian life is the life worth living. It is a life full of joy and peace that surpasses all understanding.

Proverbs‬ ‭11:30 - The wisest mortal man to ever live, King Solomon, taught that there is tremendous wisdom in winning souls.

“The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life. He who is wise wins souls.” ‭‭(Proverbs‬ ‭11:30‬ ‭WEB)

The Bible is the inerrant word of the living God. Every prophecy in it has and will come to pass.

Acts‬ ‭17:11‬ - Examine what preachers say with the Word of God, don’t just believe everything they say.
God considers you as more noble when you check with His word.

“Now these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.” ‭‭(Acts‬ ‭17:11‬ ‭WEB)

3 John 1:2 - God’s heart is for us to be blessed: to prosper in all things and be healthy.

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers.” ‭‭(3 John‬ ‭1:2‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 6:14 - God made a covenant with Abraham because He wants Abraham and his descendants to know that He wants to bless them.
God’s will is revealed in God’s word.

“saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.”” ‭‭(Hebrews‬ ‭6:14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

For every imperative there is an indicative. An indicative is an expression of fact, telling you that what God has already done for you. The reason why you can be holy and deny ungodly lusts is because you have the Grace of God. Rest your hope FULLY on Grace. No Grace, no holiness.
For every imperative there is an indicative. An indicative is an expression of fact, telling you that what God has already done for you. The reason why you can be holy and deny ungodly lusts is because you have the Grace of God. Rest your hope FULLY on Grace. No Grace, no holiness.

There are two types of sanctification: one that happens upon salvation, and another that is progressive

John 10:10-11 - Jesus came to give us abundant life to enjoy.
The reason why we can enjoy this is because we have a Good Shepherd who laid down His life for us.
Through Jesus’ finished work at the cross, we are blessed.
The stripes made by the Roman cat o’ nine tails that Jesus endured on His back are the foundation for us to receive healing today — By His stripes, we are healed.

“The thief only comes to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and may have it abundantly. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” ‭‭(John‬ ‭10:10-11‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Corinthians 15:57 - The Christian life is a life of victory over sin and death.
This victory over sin and death is a gift that we have received, not a work to achieve.

“But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” ‭‭(1 Corinthians‬ ‭15:57‬ ‭WEB‬)

2 Corinthians 2:14 - God always leads us in triumph in Christ. Always.

“Now thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and reveals through us the sweet aroma of his knowledge in every place.” ‭‭(2 Corinthians‬ ‭2:14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 7:24-25 - The whole line of the human Levitical priesthood was tarnished because of their sin of defiling the tabernacle which brought God’s judgment.
Jesus is not tarnished because He is a priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

“But he, because he lives forever, has his priesthood unchangeable. Therefore he is also able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, seeing that he lives forever to make intercession for them.” ‭‭(Hebrews‬ ‭7:24-25‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Pastor Lawrence quoted from Watchman Nee’s book The Life that Wins, sharing that we can absolutely have victory over the power of sin in our lives

Sin has its consequences and it will absolutely destroy your life. Children and youths don’t fully know this yet so parents must teach and guide them.
Don’t make the mistake that David did with Adonijah. David never corrected Adonijah at any time in his life.
Adonijah tried to usurp Solomon’s throne.

Grace is the only way to receive holiness.

The Christian life is a good life here and now.
Through Jesus we have victory in this life and when we depart from this world, heaven awaits us.

The Hebrew word for holy is “qodesh”, which means to be set apart, and first appears in the Bible in the Book of Genesis when God made the seventh day of creation holy.
When we believed in Jesus we were set apart to God.

In the New Testament, the word for holy in Greek is “hagios” which also means to be set apart and consecrated.

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭1:30 - Concept #1: In Christ we are made holy and sanctified.

“Because of him, you are in Christ Jesus, who was made to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption:” ‭‭(1 Corinthians‬ ‭1:30‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Imperatives indicates the mood of a verb. They are like commandments whereby God wants you to do something.

Concept #2: Pastor Joseph Prince and New Creation Church believes in Progressive Sanctification: The more you know Jesus and grow in the Grace of God, the more glorious your life becomes.

Romans 7:14-25 - Concept #3: You’ll never be perfect and sinless in this lifetime, so don’t expect that of yourself.

“For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin. For I don’t know what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do. But if what I don’t desire, that I do, I consent to the law that it is good. So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me. For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don’t find it doing that which is good. For the good which I desire, I don’t do; but the evil which I don’t desire, that I practice. But if what I don’t desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me. I find then the law, that, to me, while I desire to do good, evil is present. For I delight in God’s law after the inward man, but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out of the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God’s law, but with the flesh, the sin’s law.” ‭‭(Romans‬ ‭7:14-25‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Grace is the only way to true Holiness

Titus 2:11-14 - The word “appeared” in Greek is “epephane” which means to be made visible.
Grace is not a teaching which can’t be made visible). Grace is the person of Jesus Christ.
It is the Grace of God that will teach us to deny sin and ungodly lusts.
If you take out the Grace of God then there’s no hope left for man to have victory over the power of sin.

“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we would live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world; looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ; who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify for himself a people for his own possession, zealous for good works.” (Titus‬ ‭2:11-14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Peter 1:13-16 - For every imperative there is an indicative.
An indicative is an expression of fact, telling you that what God has already done for you.
The reason why you can be holy and deny ungodly lusts is because you have the Grace of God.
Rest your hope FULLY on Grace. No Grace, no holiness.
The Law is not what guides our lives today. The Lord Jesus guides our lives today.
The Lord is greater than the Law. The Law says do not commit adultery, but the New Testament tells us to love our wives, just as Christ loves the church.

“Therefore prepare your minds for action, be sober, and set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ— as children of obedience, not conforming yourselves according to your former lusts as in your ignorance, but just as he who called you is holy, you yourselves also be holy in all of your behavior; because it is written, “You shall be holy; for I am holy.”” ‭‭(1 Peter‬ ‭1:13-16‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Ephesians 4:25-32 - The New Testament specifically tells us not to lie, not to sin when we’re angry, and not to steal. These are the imperatives.
It doesn’t mean that we are under Grace so we can go out there to indulge in sin. We have to go by the Bible.
You can only be delivered from sinful habits by Grace. That’s the only way.

“Therefore putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor. For we are members of one another. “Be angry, and don’t sin.” Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, and don’t give place to the devil. Let him who stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, producing with his hands something that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need. Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.” ‭‭(Ephesians‬ ‭4:25-32‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Ephesians‬ ‭4:17-24‬ - This is the indicative. We don’t have to be like the unbelievers of the world because something has happened to us in Christ.
You are a new creation created in true righteousness and holiness.
When you believe in that and walk according to this revelation, you will have power over sin.

“This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their hearts; who having become callous gave themselves up to lust, to work all uncleanness with greediness. But you did not learn Christ that way; if indeed you heard him, and were taught in him, even as truth is in Jesus: that you put away, as concerning your former way of life, the old man, that grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit; and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.” ‭‭(Ephesians‬ ‭4:17-24‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

To walk in the flesh means to depend on your own efforts and willpower.
Walking in the Spirit means depending on God at every moment.
When you walk in the Spirit you will not fulfill the ungodly lusts of the flesh.

Even in your filthiness, Jesus still loves you.

Mark‬ ‭5:1-15 - The demoniac was completely naked and he kept cutting himself with stones because he wanted to die.
He felt that life was no longer worth living — he was possessed by a legion of demons.
People tried to chain the demoniac up so that he wouldn’t hurt himself, but the demonic power in him was so strong that he broke the chains.
Jesus crossed the sea just to save the demoniac.
Jesus crossed the chasm of Heaven and Earth to deliver and save you.
The “cushion” that Jesus was sleeping on might have been the new set of clothes that He was keeping to clothe the demoniac with.
The demoniac was bound by demonic chains that he couldn’t free himself from. Only Jesus could do it.

“They came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes. When he had come out of the boat, immediately a man with an unclean spirit met him out of the tombs. He lived in the tombs. Nobody could bind him any more, not even with chains, because he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him, and the fetters broken in pieces. Nobody had the strength to tame him. Always, night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying out, and cutting himself with stones. When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and bowed down to him, and crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have I to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, don’t torment me.” For he said to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” He asked him, “What is your name?” He said to him, “My name is Legion, for we are many.” He begged him much that he would not send them away out of the country. Now on the mountainside there was a great herd of pigs feeding. All the demons begged him, saying, “Send us into the pigs, that we may enter into them.” At once Jesus gave them permission. The unclean spirits came out and entered into the pigs. The herd of about two thousand rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and they were drowned in the sea. Those who fed them fled, and told it in the city and in the country. The people came to see what it was that had happened. They came to Jesus, and saw him who had been possessed by demons sitting, clothed, and in his right mind, even him who had the legion; and they were afraid.” ‭‭(Mark‬ ‭5:1-15‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 12:1-2 - The imperative is that you must present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, and acceptable to God.
The indicative is that you have the mercies of God.
You must know and remember who you are in Christ and you will live holy.

“Therefore I urge you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service. Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God.” ‭‭(Romans‬ ‭12:1-2‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Sandcastles Don't Last Forever

$14.99 $9.99

This is the eBook version.

If you prefer to get the Paperback version (physical copy), you can get it on Amazon here for US$15.

About the Book:

One day when I was singing praises to God, an image floated up in my spirit: a big and beautiful sandcastle being washed away by the waves from the sea. God was teaching me the futility of holding tightly onto worldly possessions because like the sandcastle, they won't last, and one day will cease to exist.

He taught me from His word to focus on Him and by doing so, I would reap great eternal rewards before Jesus' throne at the start of the Millennium. These rewards will last forever and can't be destroyed or stolen.

It is my prayer that the revelations in this book will help you to live with a focus on the things above where God is, fulfill your God-given calling in life, be happier and to accumulate more eternal rewards to your account.

In this Book, you will learn about:

- Heavenly investment advice and the futility of worldly pursuits from a trillionaire in the Bible

- Why God has to reward us in order to be righteous

- When and how God will destroy the current earth and sky to make way for new ones

- The types of fireproof works that earn eternal rewards at the end of time

- The abundant rewards of doing good works while abiding by the non-disclosure agreement between God and you

- The difference between the temporary places of torment: Sheol and Abaddon

- Who is the Antichrist and his name revealed in the Bible

- What is the Mark of the Beast and why it disqualifies its recipients from receiving salvation

- The different judgments at the throne of Jesus Christ and what it means for you as a believer

- How to fulfill your calling and maximize your gifts to receive the best eternal rewards

Testimonials about the contents of this book:

"Sandcastles Don't Last Forever is very well written, its message loud and clear. Milton Goh gives common-sense insight on often confusing Scripture, which is much appreciated in these troubled times. My understanding of the Bible has definitely improved."

- Mike Garrett, first Editor/ Publisher for Stephen King and Author of Christian Novel "Innocence Denied", from USA

"This book is absolutely breathtaking. We don't work to be saved but were created to do good works. I am so energized and excited to know God values our works and we will be rewarded. This is all Glory to Jesus... I cant wait to throw my crowns at his feet and thank him for saving my life!" - Evangelist Michael Clark from USA

"Dear Milton Goh, I truly thank our Abba, Father for the revelations in this book. It is so amazing how I begin to discover important verses in the Bible that I have never read. That instead of following riches, with sleepless nights, and actually shortening our lives, we are just to 'Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ', and 'Love one another'. How beautiful to find out that actually in the Bible there is both 'Earthly or Worldly Investment Wisdom' and 'Eternal Investment Wisdom' according to the revelations here from Ecclesiastes 5:14-17 WEB)!; “It seems like Solomon was not only wise at earning material riches but also at earning eternal riches.” All the glory to our Lord Jesus Christ! God bless you Milton Goh for such a wonderful book!" - Nitta Nierra from Belgium

“Thank you Milton. I have just finished reading “Sandcastles Don’t Last Forever”. It’s such a good book that's filled with God's word. I love it very much. Might read again if I have the time. Thanks so much!” - Mally Chai from Singapore

"I'm reading this book and loving it! The revelations of the Gospel truth shared and it's life applications are absolutely amazing! I give glory to the Lord Jesus for my dear brother Milton for this exceptional resource. I'm gonna keep feeding on its contents and believe God for supernatural breakthroughs as my mind is renewed in Christ!" - Terence from Tombel, Cameroon

“Excellent book!! I enjoyed reading it so much and definitely recommend it! Milton is so gifted and all his teachings have blessed me tremendously! I thank God for people like him. Get this book, it will be worth it!” - Madeleine from SA, “Unmerited Favor” tier patron
