1 July 2018 - Speak to the Rock and Receive your Supply - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes

Praise and Worship songs performed:
(Please let me know if I missed out any song titles before this)
  1. No Longer Slaves - Bethel Music
  2. Letting Go - New Creation Worship
  3. There is Power in the Name of Jesus

Your need cannot be greater than God’s supply.
Sometimes God allows us to come into a place of need so that we can see what is in our heart.
He is not the Source of it and He does not cause the lack, but He allows it to happen.
It’s times of testing that reveals what’s in our heart.

Times of need also reveals what’s in His heart and we see all the supply that’s prepared for us.

God never wanted the children of Israel to wander in the wilderness.
God never brings you out to leave you hanging on your own.
God brings you out to bring you into somewhere else.
He brings you out to bring you in!

The promised land “flows” with milk and honey - it is a picture of abundance.
“Milk” reminds us of a mother, providing milk for her child. The milk comes from mother grace.
God has moved mountains - He not at Mount Sinai anymore, but Mount Zion.
Our mother is Sarah (Grace) not Hagar (the Law).
“Honey” reminds us of cooperation - bees have work together to bring the pollen back to the hive to make honey.
In the church, we are interdependent.
The Christian life is not meant to be lived alone.

If God has given you a revelation which others have not received yet, be kind to those who didn’t receive the revelation yet because God was kind to you.
He could have given the revelation to that person instead of you.

Sending the twelve spies was not Moses’ idea. It was the children of Israel’s own idea.
God had already said that the land flows with milk and honey.

Ten of the spies came back with a bad report, saying that there were giants and that they (Israel) were grasshoppers in their sight.

Only Joshua and Caleb had a spirit of faith and encouraged the people to go up and take the land.
In Hebrew, Joshua and Caleb said that the land is a “very very” good land.
The Christian life is much better than the life in Egypt that we came out from.

Times of need reveals God's heart of grace and His abundant supply

I Corinthians 10:11 - The word “examples” in Greek is “tupos” which means types.

“Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.” (I Corinthians 10:11NKJV)

We are near the Rapture and the Second Coming of Christ.

What has been is going to happen again. This is written in Ecclesiastes.
The walls of Jericho falling and the Six Day War are parallels.

Numbers 20:1-13 - What you say will happen to you.
Joshua and Caleb believed that God would bring them in, so they were brought in.
The rest of the children of Israel who didn’t believe that God could bring them in all died in the wilderness.
Don’t let your children just watch their YouTube and Netflix without teaching them directly.
Don’t let them be taught by Babylon while you’re the only one enjoying the milk and honey from the Lord.
This passage occurs towards the end of the children of Israel’s wandering in the wilderness.
We are studying this end of their journey because we are the end-times of the end-times generation.
Moses disobeyed God’s instructions - God said speak to the rock, not hit it. Yet Moses struck the rock twice.
Even though Moses disobeyed, the rock still yielded water because God loves the people.
Some ministries don’t portray God the right way but there are still results because God loves the people.
The Rapture is coming really soon. We will feel so alive and look so good when it happens - No more worries!
The rod spoken of in this verse is Aaron’s rod, not the rod that Moses always held in his hand.
Moses’ rod is a rod of judgment. It turned into a snake before Pharaoh, it produced plagues in Egypt, and destroyed the Egyptian armies at the Red Sea.
Aaron’s rod blossomed with almond flowers when they were choosing a high priest among the children of Israel.
The rod is a dead thing, yet it blossomed with resurrection life - it is a picture of Jesus being resurrected from the dead.
The rod of Aaron is a rod of priestly grace. A priest represents the people to God for the people’s good. A priest is good news.
Jesus is our High Priest forever. We are engraved on His heart forever, never to be blotted out.
We are like beautiful gems, and when we come closer to God, we will shine even more beautifully.
The High Priest presents you holy, righteous, and favored before God.
Are our sins once and for all put away? Yes, because Jesus was crucified once and for all.
Jesus offered one sacrifice for sins forever and sat down at the right hand of God.
Even though Moses did not represent God’s heart correctly before the people, God still hallowed Himself before the people. He will still show Himself as gracious.

“Then the children of Israel, the whole congregation, came into the Wilderness of Zin in the first month, and the people stayed in Kadesh; and Miriam died there and was buried there. Now there was no water for the congregation; so they gathered together against Moses and Aaron. And the people contended with Moses and spoke, saying: “If only we had died when our brethren died before the LORD! Why have you brought up the assembly of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our animals should die here? And why have you made us come up out of Egypt, to bring us to this evil place? It is not a place of grain or figs or vines or pomegranates; nor is there any water to drink.” So Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly to the door of the tabernacle of meeting, and they fell on their faces. And the glory of the LORD appeared to them. Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Take the rod; you and your brother Aaron gather the congregation together. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water; thus you shall bring water for them out of the rock, and give drink to the congregation and their animals.” So Moses took the rod from before the LORD as He commanded him. And Moses and Aaron gathered the assembly together before the rock; and he said to them, “Hear now, you rebels! Must we bring water for you out of this rock?” Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their animals drank. Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.” This was the water of Meribah, because the children of Israel contended with the LORD, and He was hallowed among them.” (Numbers 20:1-13NKJV)

One word from God can change your life. Your pastor can speak prophetically to you during a sermon and others may not know it - it’s a word just for you.

I Corinthians 10:4 - The rock in Numbers 20 is Christ.

“and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.” (I Corinthians 10:4 NKJV)

Hebrews 4:14 - We have a High Priest!

“Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.” (Hebrews 4:14 NKJV)

Hebrews 8:1 - We have a High Priest!

“Now this is the main point of the things we are saying: We have such a High Priest, who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,”(Hebrews 8:1 NKJV)

Hebrews 10:21-22 - We have a High Priest!

“and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.” (Hebrews 10:21-22 NKJV)

Fame and fortune cannot give you lasting happiness or fill the emptiness you feel.

What’s the worst thing that can happen? Don’t worry, you have a High Priest!

Exodus 17:5-6 - God said “your rod with which you struck the river” to let us know that it is a rod of judgment.
Back in Egypt, Moses’ first miracle through the rod was to turn the waters of the River Nile into blood.
The rock here in Hebrew is “sur” which is a big rock.
In Numbers 20, the rock in Hebrew is “sela” which is a high cliff. Like the high cliffs at Petra in Jordan.
The rock here represents Jesus on the cross, while the rock in Numbers 20 represents Jesus high and exalted in heaven.
God said He would stand before Moses on the rock! Jesus wasn’t murdered, He laid down His life for us.
All our sins were judicially punished in the body of Jesus at the cross, and now God is glorified by what Jesus did.
God has received much more because of Jesus’ sacrifice - it was an overpayment.

“And the LORD said to Moses, “Go on before the people, and take with you some of the elders of Israel. Also take in your hand your rod with which you struck the river, and go. Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb; and you shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.” (Exodus 17:5-6 NKJV)

The Four Expanses of the Heavens Revealed written by Milton Goh

The correct way to present God as holy today is to show Him in His grace

To spoil your child is to kill your child. Discipline is necessary but don’t abuse your child.
Cane your child only on the buttocks and don’t do it when you’re angry.

God turned the worst act of mankind (Crucifying Jesus on the cross) and turned it into an emblem of His love for us.

The cure for depression is to know that all your sins are forgiven.
Stop punishing yourself and those around you.
Jesus was punished for you.

God wanted to be hallowed as the God of grace. He wants us to know the glory of the priesthood.
Imagine how glorious it would have been if Moses had simply spoken to the rock with the rod of Aaron in his hand, and water gushed out.
The children of Israel would have seen that despite their complaining, God still provided water for them graciously.
Everytime they see the rod of Aaron from then on, they would know that it’s good news.

Instead Moses presented God as being angry with the children of Israel, which was not in sync with God’s heart towards them.
Moses struck the rock twice with his own rod of judgment.
He spoiled the type - He made it seem like whenever people sin, Jesus has to come down again to die again for the sins.

God said speak to the rock, and instead Moses spoke to the people.
Sometimes we only speak horizontally to the people around us and forget to speak to Jesus, our High Priest who can actually help us.

Moses and Aaron were punished for their actions and the people were vindicated.
How does God want to be presented as holy today?
To preach grace is the highest holiness - only grace can produce holiness and maintain holiness.
When you are under grace, sin shall not have dominion over you.

It’s hard sometimes for pastors and leaders to put away the rod of judgment and use the rod of Aaron instead, because of habit.
Preach grace, if not you may not enter the very very good land - your promised blessings on earth.

Deuteronomy 3:25-27 - The mountain that Moses wanted to see is Mount Hermon, where Jesus was transfigured much later on.

“I pray, let me cross over and see the good land beyond the Jordan, those pleasant mountains, and Lebanon.’ “But the LORD was angry with me on your account, and would not listen to me. So the LORD said to me: ‘Enough of that! Speak no more to Me of this matter. Go up to the top of Pisgah, and lift your eyes toward the west, the north, the south, and the east; behold it with your eyes, for you shall not cross over this Jordan.” (Deuteronomy 3:25-27 NKJV)

Psalm 106:32-33 - Moses called the children of Israel “rebels” when that was not what God called them.

“They angered Him also at the waters of strife, So that it went ill with Moses on account of them; Because they rebelled against His Spirit, So that he spoke rashly with his lips.” (Psalms 106:32-33 NKJV)

Matthew 17:1-3 - Moses made it to Mount Hermon!
God’s heart was so good, He brought Moses into the Promised Land not with the murmuring children of Israel, but with Jesus the Son of God!

“Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him.” (Matthew 17:1-3 NKJV)

John did not write about the transfiguration. When people write autobiographies, they always show the best parts.
But the Bible shows the heroes of faith with their imperfect, warts and all.
The Bible is not about experience but about truth.

Romans 8:33-34 - When your heart is feeling overwhelmed, speak to the Rock - Jesus.

“Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.” (Romans 8:33-34 NKJV)

These sermon notes are independently-compiled by me, and I'm just a loyal and regular attendee of the the church's Sunday services, and I feel led to take detailed personal sermon notes of Pastor Prince's anointed messages to share them with the world, which desperately needs the true word of God and the original gospel of grace.

I feel blessed to be able to attend Pastor Joseph Prince's services in person, and would like to help everyone who isn't able to attend in person, to get hold of the messages as soon as it is preached!
