24 June 2018 - Jesus Draws Near when you are Discouraged (at Caesarea Maritima) - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes

Praise and Worship songs performed:
  1. This is Amazing Grace - Jeremy Riddle
  2. Reckless Love - Caleb Culver
  3. God You’re So Good - Passion
  4. King of my Heart - Bethel Music

Pastor Prince preached this sermon on 11 March 2018 live in Israel.

Paul preached the gospel from Caesarea Maritima westwards, to USA.
Israel is the center of the world.
And now, the gospel continues to be preached westwards, reaching Korea and China.
The path of the righteous shines brighter and brighter until the perfect day.
Finally the gospel will come one full circle and reach Jerusalem again.

The gospel is not about do good, get good, do bad, get bad.
The gospel is called the gospel of grace, or the gospel of peace.

Galatians 1:6-9 - A different gospel is any other gospel than the grace of Christ.
Paul pronounced a double curse on anyone who preaches any other gospel.
Whoever preaches the true gospel will be doubly blessed.

“I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.” (Galatians 1:6-9 NKJV)

When God gave the Law on Mount Sinai on the first Pentecost for Israel, 3000 people died.
When God gave the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, 3000 were saved.
The Law kills, while Grace gives life.

Romans 6:14 - The Law shows a reflection of sin, not of righteousness. It is a holy mirror that shows you as you are.
The devil has put fences around grace and we need to rediscover the gospel that Paul preached.
The Law is about do, Grace is about done.
There is only one thing left do under Grace: rest in what Jesus has done.
Under the Old Testament, the priests must not gird themselves with anything that causes them to sweat - we need to rest in God.
We pray from victory, not for victory.

“For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” (Romans 6:14 NKJV)

A bruised reed that has lost its purpose and song will usually be thrown away. But Jesus doesn’t throw you away when you have lost your song or praise. A smoking flax produces a stench and is burning out. Even if you are burnt out and discouraged, Jesus doesn’t destroy you.

Jesus cares for the discouraged and dejected

Matthew 12:20 - Of all the things that the prophet Isaiah prophesied, this was quoted about Jesus.
Reeds are common in Israel. A bruised reed that has lost its purpose and song will usually be thrown away.
But Jesus doesn’t throw you away when you have lost your song or praise.
A smoking flax produces a stench and is burning out.
Even if you are burnt out and discouraged, Jesus doesn’t destroy you.

“A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench, Till He sends forth justice to victory;” (Matthew 12:20 NKJV)

Elijah the prophet who called fire down from heaven fled when Jezebel threatened to kill him. Elijah was in a dejected and discouraged season of his life.
Elijah prayed for God to let him die but Elijah never died, and till today he has never died.
God caught him up to heaven. Pastor Prince believes that Elijah will come back with Moses as one of the two Witnesses in Book of Revelation during the end times.

In the day of his faith, ravens fed Elijah. In the day of his discouragement, angels fed Elijah - Jesus Himself fed Elijah.

Luke 24:15 - When there is a wayward apostle/saint, Jesus doesn’t send an angel.
He comes to minister to them Himself.

“So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them.” (Luke 24:15 NKJV)

Psalm 147:3-5 - The same God who can count the number of stars, is the same One who heals our broken hearts and binds up our wounds.
Even in laughter, a heart can be sorrowful. The world watches shows on TV all the time and they are laughing but their hearts are actually broken.

“He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name. Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.” (Psalms 147:3-5 NKJV)

Jesus went to Simon the Pharisee’s house. Simon did not treat Jesus well, but the woman poured out her love upon Jesus.
He who is forgiven much, loves much.
We need to tell people that their sins are forgiven past, present and future!
What a relief when you live a life that's no longer self-occupied but Christ-occupied.

In and of yourself you will still fail. You need to know that you’re forgiven.
You don’t need to keep confessing your sins, you just need to raise and hands and say “Thank You Lord that I am forgiven” and continue with your life.

The Bible calls Jesus a King.
Both His earthly father Joseph and mother Mary have lineages linking back to royalty.
Jesus has a double claim to the throne!

At the Mount of Beatitudes after Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount to the multitudes, Jesus went down the mountain.
He didn’t go towards the multitudes but He went the other direction towards the leper because the Bible says that the multitudes followed Him.
The leper was definitely not among the multitudes if not he would have been stoned.

To the theologian Nicodemus, Jesus never revealed Himself as the Messiah. But to the woman, Jesus revealed Himself as the Messiah, saying “I am He”.
To the theologian Nicodemus, Jesus never revealed Himself as the Messiah. But to the woman, Jesus revealed Himself as the Messiah, saying “I am He”.

The power of knowing God's love for you

Jesus is altogether lovely. When He is strong He is not hurtful. When He is soft He is not weak. We desire to be like Him.

The shortest verse in the Bible is “Jesus wept”. Jesus came to enter into our sorrows.
It is a wonderful thing to see our Savior weeping for sinners.

John 4:4-5 - Jesus took the longer way to go through Samaria.
There is a prophecy about Jesus being a fruitful bough whose branches reach over the wall.
Jesus would reach the well, and go over the wall of partition (between Israel and Samaria).
The people who fight for the Law often cannot even memorize the Law.
The Holy Spirit doesn’t help you to memorize the Law.
In John 3, Nicodemus (a theologian) came seeking Jesus by night.
In John 4, Jesus came to the woman by day.
In John 3, Jesus talked to Nicodemus by types and symbols - language of the Scriptures, hidden and unexplained.
In John 4, Jesus spoke to the woman plainly, not quoting any Scriptures.

“But He needed to go through Samaria. So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.” (John 4:4-5 NKJV)

John 4:9-26 - During the woman’s time, the high priest at that time was called Jonathan (which means “Gift of God”. He was the 49th high priest.)
Jesus is the 50th High Priest. The number of Jubilee.
Jesus said to the woman “If you knew the gift of God...”
When someone who knows everything about you still wants to talk to you, you know that you are loved!
Hypocrisy is when you are a believer and call yourself a hypocrite. God has already justified you and forgiven you of all your sins!
Look in the mirror and say “I am the righteousness of God in Christ”.
The woman of Samaria first called Jesus a Jew, then sir, then prophet, and finally Lord.
To the theologian Nicodemus, Jesus never revealed Himself as the Messiah. But to the woman, Jesus revealed Himself as the Messiah, saying “I am He”.
The woman came to the well at midday, the hottest time of the day when no one goes to draw water from the water, because of her bad reputation.
At the end of the chapter, after an encounter with Jesus, the woman became a bold evangelist, telling everyone about Jesus. She was no longer self-occupied, but Christ-occupied.

“Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus answered and said to her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?” Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.” Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.” The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship.” Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will tell us all things.” Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am He. ”” (John 4:9-26 NKJV)

I John 4:10 - New Testament preaching should leave you with love, faith and hope in your heart.
Love is not you loving God, but God loving you.

"In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins." (I John 4:10 NKJV)

Abraham had two sons: Ishmael and Isaac.
But God said “take your only son, the son whom you love” to be sacrificed on Mount Moriah.
God was thinking of His only Son Jesus.
God did not withhold His only Son, so we know that He loves us.
The highest elevation of Mount Moriah is Mount Calvary - Abraham saw Jesus on the cross there.
When confronted by the Pharisees, Jesus said that Abraham saw Jesus. On Mount Moriah, Abraham turned back and saw Jesus on the cross.

Mount Hermon is the highest peak in Israel and the River Jordan near the Dead Sea is the lowest place in Israel.
In both the highest and lowest place, God affirmed Jesus as His beloved Son in whom He is well-pleased.
We need to affirm our children in both the highest and lowest points of their lives.

When Satan tempted Jesus in the wilderness, he left out the word “beloved”. He only said “if you are the son of God”.
The devil’s temptations have no power over you when you know that you are God’s beloved!

When Elijah called fire down from heaven, the fire consumed all the water and the twelve stones.
Under the Law, the judgment is greater than the sacrifice.
But when Jesus hung at the cross, and the fire of God came upon Him for all our sins, Jesus absorbed it all and said “It is finished”.
This time the Sacrifice is greater than the judgment!

There is a God-shaped vacuum in your heart that only Jesus can fill. No hedonistic pleasure in life can fill that emptiness.

These sermon notes are independently-compiled by me, and I'm just a loyal and regular attendee of the the church's Sunday services, and I feel led to take detailed personal sermon notes of Pastor Prince's anointed messages to share them with the world, which desperately needs the true word of God and the original gospel of grace.

I feel blessed to be able to attend Pastor Joseph Prince's services in person, and would like to help everyone who isn't able to attend in person, to get hold of the messages as soon as it is preached!
