17 March 2019 - The Story of Job Through the Lens of Grace - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes

Praise and Worship songs performed:
  1. In Christ Alone - Keith Getty
  2. When I Survey the Wonderful Cross - Isaac Watts
  3. With All I Am - Hillsong Worship
  4. Here - New Creation Worship

God is a loving God. Man not knowing this was the source of the original sin.
Eve didn’t believe that God’s commandment was for her own good.
The devil always presents God as not generous and always out for His own gain.

If God compromises on His righteousness, the whole universe would disintegrate.
God is holy in all He does, but the essence of God is love.
God is self-sacrificing and loving.

You don’t have to give Him a reason to love you — that frustrates His Grace.
He is good to you because He is good.

Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
This was shown even in the Garden of Eden when God clothed Adam and Eve with the hide of the dead animal and its blood.

Every man has sin in his blood. That’s why the virgin birth was needed.
Medical science has discovered that the placenta only brings food to the baby and brings waste away from the baby — it does not bring the mother’s blood to the baby.
Mary’s sinful blood didn’t taint Jesus.
The mystery of the Triune God: Three in One and One in Three.
Jesus, one of the Three, came down to earth.

Today if God rejects the sinner who believes in Jesus, in essence He’s saying that “Jesus’ work at the cross wasn’t perfect,” and He would have to apologize to Jesus.
But God doesn’t need to apologize to anyone.
He never recalls His word and doesn’t make any mistakes.

God sent Jesus for this purpose. Through the cross, the holiness of God is magnified.
The devil understands the Law, but Grace is beyond him. The devil is a lawyer. Jesus is also a lawyer.

Today God is righteous in making us righteous. The righteous basis is the cross.
Our salvation came at such a cost, such that God’s only Son had to die for us.
Without the cross, God cannot make us righteous.

Imagine you’re standing in front of the world’s worst criminal. You feel love for him, compassion for him, and you want to die in his place for his crimes.
To add to that, you even want to give all your assets to him.
To man, that is double-whammy weird, but that is what God did for us.

Job was an upright person. In today’s dispensation, Job would be a believer who has been made righteous by the blood of Jesus. As believers sometimes we go through trials. Job’s trials lasted for 9 months.
Job was an upright person. In today’s dispensation, Job would be a believer who has been made righteous by the blood of Jesus. As believers sometimes we go through trials. Job’s trials lasted for 9 months.

Preaching from experience, tradition and legality doesn't work - it produces the opposite result

The Book of Job is part of the three wisdom Books of the Bible: Job, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes.

Job 1:1-3 - Job was an upright person. In today’s dispensation, Job would be a believer who has been made righteous by the blood of Jesus.
As believers sometimes we go through trials.
Job’s trials lasted for 9 months.
Job is the oldest book in the Bible. He lived before Abraham.
Job’s story is not about Israel. Israel had not existed yet. Israel would come from the loins of Abraham.
The Law wasn’t given yet during Job’s time. There was a moral code, but not the Law.

“There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil. There were born to him seven sons and three daughters. His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the children of the east.” (Job 1:1-3 WEB)

Job 26:7 - Many scientific discoveries had been long revealed in the Book of Job.
The Book of Job reveals that God hangs the earth upon nothing, long before man discovered it through science.
Fingerprinting is revealed in this book.
The Orion (southern cross) that guides man home is revealed too.
Condensation of water is also revealed in this book.

“He stretches out the north over empty space, and hangs the earth on nothing.” (Job 26:7 WEB)

Blaming others for mistakes is a sign of self-righteousness.
God as a Father disciplines His children, but not with sickness, accidents or diseases.
When such terrible things happen, it is caused by Satan, but there is an allowing (done by God).
God didn’t have no choice but to allow Satan to attack Job.
No, God chose to allow it so that the root of self-righteousness in Job would be brought up.

We have an Advocate Who is a Man sitting at the right hand of the Father in heaven — the Lord Jesus Christ.
He is the go-between, our Interceder, that Job never had.
Thanks to Jesus, the sufferings of Job will not happen to us today.

In the Epistle to the Hebrews, it says that Jesus took His blood and sprinkled it in heaven.
He sprinkled it upon where Adam’s place was.
The devil could stand in that place previously because Adam obeyed Satan and sinned, and his position of rulership over the earth was given to Satan.
The devil has no more access to heaven today. That place has been cleansed and reclaimed by the blood of Jesus!

Job lost all of his great possessions and beloved children in one day. Then Job was covered with boils from the feet to the head.
On the other hand, healing happens from the head to the feet.
Sickness is from hell and healing is from heaven.

There are no hospitals or crisis calls in heaven.
Typhoons are not acts of God. They are acts of the devil.
The devil wants to confuse us into thinking that God deals with us by killing us.

James 5:11 - Your Heavenly Father is very compassionate and merciful.
Under the Law when Israel kept on sinning, God stepped back and nations came in to harass Israel.
God did not send the enemy nations — He removed His own protection.

“Behold, we call them blessed who endured. You have heard of the perseverance of Job, and have seen the Lord in the outcome, and how the Lord is full of compassion and mercy.” (James 5:11 WEB)

Job 4:7-9 - Eliphaz argues from experience. Experience is not the truth.
There is only one thing that gives you truth: the Bible.
Eliphaz is essentially kicking Job while he’s down.

““Remember, now, whoever perished, being innocent? Or where were the upright cut off? According to what I have seen, those who plow iniquity, and sow trouble, reap the same. By the breath of God they perish. By the blast of his anger are they consumed.” (Job 4:7-9 WEB)

Job 8:8-13 - Bildad speaks based on tradition.
With friends like these, you don’t need the devil. It’s almost like the devil is talking through their mouths.

““Please inquire of past generations. Find out about the learning of their fathers. (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days on earth are a shadow.) Shall they not teach you, tell you, and utter words out of their heart? “Can the papyrus grow up without mire? Can the rushes grow without water? While it is yet in its greenness, not cut down, it withers before any other reed. So are the paths of all who forget God. The hope of the godless man shall perish,” (Job 8:8-13 WEB)

Job 11:13-17 - Zophar argues from legality.
People like Zophar always condemn people for their sins, but when they go through suffering, it’s suddenly not because of their sins. It’s always other people’s fault.
What Zophar says is true, but it’s wrongly applied to Job.
When you apply passages of Scripture wrongly to someone, you increase their misery.
The number 42 represents completion. Job’s trials end in chapter 42.
Jesus’ generation is the 42nd generation.

““If you set your heart aright, stretch out your hands toward him. If iniquity is in your hand, put it far away. Don’t let unrighteousness dwell in your tents. Surely then you shall lift up your face without spot; Yes, you shall be steadfast, and shall not fear: for you shall forget your misery. You shall remember it like waters that have passed away. Life shall be clearer than the noonday. Though there is darkness, it shall be as the morning.” (Job 11:13-17 WEB)

Job 29 - Eliphaz (argues from experience), Bildad (argues from tradition) and Zophar (argues from legality) represents the three types of wrong preaching that are still occurring in the pulpits today.
When you try to convict people with experience, tradition and legality, you get the opposite of the intended result.
Never has a man spoken and defended himself more than Job in this chapter.
Job referred to himself more than 40 times and only referred to God 5 times.
It’s true that Job did all those good things, but he started to value his good works more than God.
Many people only want to serve as benefactor or as patron. They want to be recognized for their service.
Don’t kill each other through tradition.

Job 16:1-4 - Do you have friends who do the work of the devil by being miserable comforters to you?
Job’s friends were true-hearted friends and spoke the truth, but they applied them wrongly to Job.
Truth applied out of its season is like a heresy.

“Then Job answered, “I have heard many such things. You are all miserable comforters! Shall vain words have an end? Or what provokes you that you answer? I also could speak as you do. If your soul were in my soul’s place, I could join words together against you, and shake my head at you,” (Job 16:1-4 WEB)

Quickly submit to God and your trials will end

Job 19:1-6 - God was not Job’s problem. Satan was.
Why would we rather blame God than blame ourselves?
In David’s sufferings, he didn’t blame God. He justified God and said that God can do no wrong.
At many funerals, Job’s words are quoted by pastors who conduct the service: “God gives and God takes away.”
No, God gave blessings to Job but God did not take them from him. It was the devil who took them.

“Then Job answered, “How long will you torment me, and crush me with words? You have reproached me ten times. You aren’t ashamed that you attack me. If it is true that I have erred, my error remains with myself. If indeed you will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach; know now that God has subverted me, and has surrounded me with his net.” (Job 19:1-6 WEB)

Job 32:4-9 - Elihu was a young prophet. He didn’t speak initially because Job’s other friends were older than Elihu — he respected their seniority.
But when there were no good answers from the other friends, Elihu spoke up.

“Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job, because they were elder than he. When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, his wrath was kindled. Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered, “I am young, and you are very old; Therefore I held back, and didn’t dare show you my opinion. I said, ‘Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.’ But there is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty gives them understanding. It is not the great who are wise, nor the aged who understand justice.” (Job 32:4-9 WEB)

Job 33:19-25 - If you’re sick, know that it’s not God’s will.
Preachers need to show believers their uprightness (righteousness) in Jesus.
The word “ransom” in Hebrew means “atonement”. God has found a ransom: Jesus paid the price for your good blessings.

““Man is also chastened with pain on his bed, And with strong pain in many of his bones, So that his life abhors bread, And his soul succulent food. His flesh wastes away from sight, And his bones stick out which once were not seen. Yes, his soul draws near the Pit, And his life to the executioners. “If there is a messenger for him, A mediator, one among a thousand, To show man His uprightness, Then He is gracious to him, and says, ‘Deliver him from going down to the Pit; I have found a ransom’; His flesh shall be young like a child’s, He shall return to the days of his youth.” (Job 33:19-25 NKJV)

Job 38:1-5 - God argued based on the sublimity and grandeur of His creation. Who can be like God? His loving compassions and mercy fail not.

“Then Yahweh answered Job out of the whirlwind, “Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man, for I will question you, then you answer me! “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding. Who determined its measures, if you know? Or who stretched the line on it?” (Job 38:1-5 WEB)

Don’t justify yourself and blame God. Don’t justify yourself and say that the Bible is wrong.
The Bible will outlast you. Everybody will breathe their last if Jesus tarries.

The Leviathan and Behemoth in the Book of Job are pictures of the devil.
You are no match for the devil if you try to earn your own righteousness.
But through Jesus, you can overcome the devil.

Satan thought he could threaten and destroy Job. Satan thought he was dealing with a saint, but the mighty God always shows up.

Job 42:1-6 - Learn to agree with what God says and you’ll be blessed beyond your wildest dreams.
If you stand before God with Jesus as your Justifier, you will never be lost.
Church size is not the most important: The menorah (lampstand) has no measurements of how big it is — only how heavy it is.
It’s not about the size of your ministry — it’s about its impact and whether it’s really fulfilling God’s will.
God can take your success, your company and your ministry back if you’re lifted up in pride (thinking that you’re a self-made man), but He won’t take your life.

“Then Job answered Yahweh, “I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be restrained. You asked, ‘Who is this who hides counsel without knowledge?’ therefore I have uttered that which I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I didn’t know. You said, ‘Listen, now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you will answer me.’ I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you. Therefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”” (Job 42:1-6 WEB)

Job 42:7-10 - The Lord turns your captivity when you pray for others. Pray for your friends.

“It was so, that after Yahweh had spoken these words to Job, Yahweh said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends; for you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has. Now therefore, take to yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you, for I will accept him, that I not deal with you according to your folly. For you have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job has.” So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did what Yahweh commanded them, and Yahweh accepted Job. Yahweh turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends. Yahweh gave Job twice as much as he had before.” (Job 42:7-10 WEB)

Job 42:12-13 - Job received double for his trouble.
God restored Job in both quality and quantity.
Job’s livestock doubled in quantity.
Job had more daughters previously, but these three new daughters were the most beautiful in the land (quality).

“So Yahweh blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys. He had also seven sons and three daughters.”(Job 42:12-13 WEB)

Job 42:15-17 - God blesses you with beauty. It’s proven all over the Bible.
There is a beauty that is natural (based on your DNA), but for such people, sometimes you spend time with them and they feel like an unattractive, empty shell.
On the other hand, people who are full of Jesus have an attractiveness and beauty.

“In all the land were no women found so beautiful as the daughters of Job. Their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers. After this Job lived one hundred forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, to four generations. So Job died, being old and full of days.” (Job 42:15-17 WEB)

Some trials are allowed to happen in our lives to manifest our self-righteousness so it can be dealt with.
If you’re going through a trial today, why don’t you just jump straight to chapter 42 and just agree with God and submit to Him by the power of the Holy Spirit?
Then your trial will end and not drag on — Hallelujah!

Sandcastles Don't Last Forever

$7.99

This is the eBook version.

If you prefer to get the Paperback version (physical copy), you can get it on Amazon here for US$15.

About the Book:

One day when I was singing praises to God, an image floated up in my spirit: a big and beautiful sandcastle being washed away by the waves from the sea. God was teaching me the futility of holding tightly onto worldly possessions because like the sandcastle, they won't last, and one day will cease to exist.

He taught me from His word to focus on Him and by doing so, I would reap great eternal rewards before Jesus' throne at the start of the Millennium. These rewards will last forever and can't be destroyed or stolen.

It is my prayer that the revelations in this book will help you to live with a focus on the things above where God is, fulfill your God-given calling in life, be happier and to accumulate more eternal rewards to your account.

In this Book, you will learn about:

- Heavenly investment advice and the futility of worldly pursuits from a trillionaire in the Bible

- Why God has to reward us in order to be righteous

- When and how God will destroy the current earth and sky to make way for new ones

- The types of fireproof works that earn eternal rewards at the end of time

- The abundant rewards of doing good works while abiding by the non-disclosure agreement between God and you

- The difference between the temporary places of torment: Sheol and Abaddon

- Who is the Antichrist and his name revealed in the Bible

- What is the Mark of the Beast and why it disqualifies its recipients from receiving salvation

- The different judgments at the throne of Jesus Christ and what it means for you as a believer

- How to fulfill your calling and maximize your gifts to receive the best eternal rewards

Testimonials about the contents of this book:

"Sandcastles Don't Last Forever is very well written, its message loud and clear. Milton Goh gives common-sense insight on often confusing Scripture, which is much appreciated in these troubled times. My understanding of the Bible has definitely improved."

- Mike Garrett, first Editor/ Publisher for Stephen King and Author of Christian Novel "Innocence Denied", from USA

"This book is absolutely breathtaking. We don't work to be saved but were created to do good works. I am so energized and excited to know God values our works and we will be rewarded. This is all Glory to Jesus... I cant wait to throw my crowns at his feet and thank him for saving my life!" - Evangelist Michael Clark from USA

"Dear Milton Goh, I truly thank our Abba, Father for the revelations in this book. It is so amazing how I begin to discover important verses in the Bible that I have never read. That instead of following riches, with sleepless nights, and actually shortening our lives, we are just to 'Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ', and 'Love one another'. How beautiful to find out that actually in the Bible there is both 'Earthly or Worldly Investment Wisdom' and 'Eternal Investment Wisdom' according to the revelations here from Ecclesiastes 5:14-17 WEB)!; “It seems like Solomon was not only wise at earning material riches but also at earning eternal riches.” All the glory to our Lord Jesus Christ! God bless you Milton Goh for such a wonderful book!" - Nitta Nierra from Belgium

“Thank you Milton. I have just finished reading “Sandcastles Don’t Last Forever”. It’s such a good book that's filled with God's word. I love it very much. Might read again if I have the time. Thanks so much!” - Mally Chai from Singapore

"I'm reading this book and loving it! The revelations of the Gospel truth shared and it's life applications are absolutely amazing! I give glory to the Lord Jesus for my dear brother Milton for this exceptional resource. I'm gonna keep feeding on its contents and believe God for supernatural breakthroughs as my mind is renewed in Christ!" - Terence from Tombel, Cameroon

I was getting tired trying to perform what I thought God needed from me. You have made me realize it's 100% the CROSS and now I go constantly for Jesus but never get tired. Thanks for your wisdom and love for Jesus. May God bless you and your family!"

* Please Take Note: These sermon notes are not official New Creation Church (NCC) or Pastor Joseph Prince sermon notes. These sermon notes are not affiliated with NCC or Pastor Prince.
I highly recommend purchasing Pastor Prince's sermons on his mobile app "Joseph Prince" on Apple App Store or Google Play Store even after you read these notes as I may have missed out something he shared and the overall experience is definitely different when you listen to him preaching directly!
Use these notes as a revision guide instead of solely depending on them!

These sermon notes are independently-compiled by me, and I'm just a loyal and regular attendee of the the church's Sunday services, and I feel led to take detailed personal sermon notes of Pastor Prince's anointed messages to share them with the world, which desperately needs the true word of God and the original gospel of grace.

I feel blessed to be able to attend Pastor Joseph Prince's services in person, and would like to help everyone who isn't able to attend in person, to get hold of the messages as soon as it is preached!

Many blessings and thanks to Terence Koh and Shanice Ng for supporting this blog as our Superabundant Grace tier patrons!
