2 December 2018 - The Power of a Life of Prayer - Pastor Lawrence Lim Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes

Praise and Worship songs performed:

Joy to the World - George Frideric Handel
Good Good Father - Anthony Brown
I’m Held By Your Love - Integrity’s Hosanna Music
Build My Life - Brett Younker
When I Think Upon Christmas - Hillsong Worship
I Cast All My Cares Upon You
We are the Reason

We all love to receive gifts. The greatest gift we can ever receive is Jesus.

It’s more blessed to give to others (fellow humans) than to receive.

Prayerfully invite someone for the Christmas service. They already know you’re going to pressurize them anyway, so just do it!

It’s difficult to experience unanswered prayers. We need the Lord to help us move ahead from the disappointment.

Healing is the will of God. The Bible is the foundation of our beliefs.
Jesus is the expression of the will of God. Anyone who sees Jesus has seen the Father - Jesus is the exact representation of the Father. In seeing Jesus, you see God.

Jesus went about doing good, healing all who were oppressed by the devil.
From seeing Jesus in the Scriptures, we know that it’s God’s will for us to be healed.

It is God’s will for all of us to be healed and all of us to be blessed.

Our preaching must never be based on whether people will be disappointed or not. Our preaching must be based on the truth of God’s word.

Always double check what preachers say with God’s word. The greatest gift besides Jesus is that we have the Word of God.

It seems like God can only move when men pray. Without God, we cannot. Without us, God will not. There is a divine partnership between God and man. God’s will takes effect when we pray. There’s a place where we step in and keep on praying even when the things we see discourage or disappoint us.

Keep pressing in with prayer

3 John 1:2 - The Apostle John prayed the following prayer for his beloved friend Gaius.
Why do we still pray for healing when we know that healing is God’s will?
It seems like God can only move when men pray.
Without God, we cannot. Without us, God will not. There is a divine partnership between God and man.
God’s will takes effect when we pray.
There’s a place where we step in and keep on praying even when the things we see discourage or disappoint us.

“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be healthy, even as your soul prospers.” (3 John 1:2 WEB)

Luke 18:1-8 - This is one of Jesus’ parables. The unrighteous judge answered the widow’s plea for selfish reasons.
He knew that if he didn’t answer her, she would keep coming to him.
Even the unrighteous judge will answer, what more God who is the Righteous Judge?
We need to persevere in our prayers. There is power when we pray.

“He also spoke a parable to them that they must always pray, and not give up, saying, “There was a judge in a certain city who didn’t fear God, and didn’t respect man. A widow was in that city, and she often came to him, saying, ‘Defend me from my adversary!’ He wouldn’t for a while, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God, nor respect man, yet because this widow bothers me, I will defend her, or else she will wear me out by her continual coming.’” The Lord said, “Listen to what the unrighteous judge says. Won’t God avenge his chosen ones, who are crying out to him day and night, and yet he exercises patience with them? I tell you that he will avenge them quickly. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”” (Luke 18:1-8 WEB)

Acts 12:1-7 - Herod was an evil king. He tried to execute Peter as well.
However, continual prayer was provided for Peter.
It was not mentioned that the same was done for James.
The church had learnt from their mistake and prayed when Peter was arrested.
An angel delivered Peter from prison and Peter came out of the prison and went all the way back to the church.
There is tremendous power that is released when the church prays.
God will turn everything around when we pray.

“Now about that time, King Herod stretched out his hands to oppress some of the assembly. He killed James, the brother of John, with the sword. When he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also. This was during the days of unleavened bread. When he had arrested him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of four soldiers each to guard him, intending to bring him out to the people after the Passover. Peter therefore was kept in the prison, but constant prayer was made by the assembly to God for him. The same night when Herod was about to bring him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains. Guards in front of the door kept the prison. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side, and woke him up, saying, “Stand up quickly!” His chains fell off from his hands.” (Acts 12:1-7 WEB)

James 5:16 - There is great power that is released when we pray.
We are already the righteousness of God in Christ.
We are justified by faith, not by our own obedience.
Because you are righteous in Christ, you prayer has great power.
We need to keep pressing in when we pray.
Prayer is conversation with God, communion and intimacy with God.
It is also worship. Prayer also takes place in the presence of God.

“Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective.” (James 5:16 WEB)

Sandcastles Don't Last Forever

This is the eBook version.

If you prefer to get the Paperback version (physical copy), you can get it on Amazon here for US$15.

About the Book:

One day when I was singing praises to God, an image floated up in my spirit: a big and beautiful sandcastle being washed away by the waves from the sea. God was teaching me the futility of holding tightly onto worldly possessions because like the sandcastle, they won't last, and one day will cease to exist.

He taught me from His word to focus on Him and by doing so, I would reap great eternal rewards before Jesus' throne at the start of the Millennium. These rewards will last forever and can't be destroyed or stolen.

It is my prayer that the revelations in this book will help you to live with a focus on the things above where God is, fulfill your God-given calling in life, be happier and to accumulate more eternal rewards to your account.

In this Book, you will learn about:

- Heavenly investment advice and the futility of worldly pursuits from a trillionaire in the Bible

- Why God has to reward us in order to be righteous

- When and how God will destroy the current earth and sky to make way for new ones

- The types of fireproof works that earn eternal rewards at the end of time

- The abundant rewards of doing good works while abiding by the non-disclosure agreement between God and you

- The difference between the temporary places of torment: Sheol and Abaddon

- Who is the Antichrist and his name revealed in the Bible

- What is the Mark of the Beast and why it disqualifies its recipients from receiving salvation

- The different judgments at the throne of Jesus Christ and what it means for you as a believer

- How to fulfill your calling and maximize your gifts to receive the best eternal rewards

Testimonials about the contents of this book:

"Sandcastles Don't Last Forever is very well written, its message loud and clear. Milton Goh gives common-sense insight on often confusing Scripture, which is much appreciated in these troubled times. My understanding of the Bible has definitely improved."

- Mike Garrett, first Editor/ Publisher for Stephen King and Author of Christian Novel "Innocence Denied", from USA

"This book is absolutely breathtaking. We don't work to be saved but were created to do good works. I am so energized and excited to know God values our works and we will be rewarded. This is all Glory to Jesus... I cant wait to throw my crowns at his feet and thank him for saving my life!" - Evangelist Michael Clark from USA

"Dear Milton Goh, I truly thank our Abba, Father for the revelations in this book. It is so amazing how I begin to discover important verses in the Bible that I have never read. That instead of following riches, with sleepless nights, and actually shortening our lives, we are just to 'Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ', and 'Love one another'. How beautiful to find out that actually in the Bible there is both 'Earthly or Worldly Investment Wisdom' and 'Eternal Investment Wisdom' according to the revelations here from Ecclesiastes 5:14-17 WEB)!; “It seems like Solomon was not only wise at earning material riches but also at earning eternal riches.” All the glory to our Lord Jesus Christ! God bless you Milton Goh for such a wonderful book!" - Nitta Nierra from Belgium

“Thank you Milton. I have just finished reading “Sandcastles Don’t Last Forever”. It’s such a good book that's filled with God's word. I love it very much. Might read again if I have the time. Thanks so much!” - Mally Chai from Singapore

"I'm reading this book and loving it! The revelations of the Gospel truth shared and it's life applications are absolutely amazing! I give glory to the Lord Jesus for my dear brother Milton for this exceptional resource. I'm gonna keep feeding on its contents and believe God for supernatural breakthroughs as my mind is renewed in Christ!" - Terence from Tombel, Cameroon

“Excellent book!! I enjoyed reading it so much and definitely recommend it! Milton is so gifted and all his teachings have blessed me tremendously! I thank God for people like him. Get this book, it will be worth it!” - Madeleine from SA, “Unmerited Favor” tier patron

Even Jesus prayed often while He was on earth - His greatest miracles were preceded by time in prayer

Your heart is made with a desire for Jesus. Unbelievers don’t know that.
True satisfaction is found in Jesus. Only He fulfills. Your heart’s cry is for Him. It finds its rest in Him.
Prayer is not just about bringing your requests to God, but let’s not pretend to be super-spiritual.
God is perfectly fine with you bringing your requests to Him all the time.
Jesus asked us to ask God and we shall receive.
Bring your requests whether big or small.
Coming into God’s presence is much more than that though.
You will experience much more when you come to Him.
Prayer is a privilege.
It’s having a conversation with your Abba and your Best Friend.

Acts 9:36-41 - This passage records the greatest miracle of the early church in the Book of Acts - raising Dorcas back from the dead.

The Holy Spirit saw it fit to write that Peter prayed. Something good happened because he prayed.
Death may seem like the ultimate end, but when we pray, something happens - a dead situation can turn around for our good!
Our Lord is the Resurrection and the Life. Whatever situation you face today, you can press in and pray.
Pastor Lawrence believes that Peter prayed in tongues before Tabitha was raised from the dead.
We receive the power of God when we are baptized in the Holy Spirit.
This power allows the sick to be healed through us, and it backs up the Gospel with signs and wonders.
Let the miracles testify of the goodness of God.
How can the end time church be weaker and more powerless than the early church?
The church must be supernatural and powerful today. It is the church’s time to shine.

“Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which when translated, means Dorcas. This woman was full of good works and acts of mercy which she did. In those days, she became sick, and died. When they had washed her, they laid her in an upper room. As Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, hearing that Peter was there, sent two men to him, imploring him not to delay in coming to them. Peter got up and went with them. When he had come, they brought him into the upper room. All the widows stood by him weeping, and showing the coats and garments which Dorcas had made while she was with them. Peter sent them all out, and knelt down and prayed. Turning to the body, he said, “Tabitha, get up!” She opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up. He gave her his hand, and raised her up. Calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive.” (Acts 9:36-41 WEB)

Isaiah 38:1-5 - No one and nothing can stop you from praying for yourself. Let your faith arise.
Don’t subject yourself to the bad reports that you have received from the doctor.
God can turn your situation around. When you pray, good things will happen.
Prayer is not just for pastors. It’s for all believers.
Read William Cowper’s poem called “Exhortation to Prayer”.

“In those days was Hezekiah sick and near death. Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him, and said to him, “Yahweh says, ‘Set your house in order, for you will die, and not live.’” Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to Yahweh, and said, “Remember now, Yahweh, I beg you, how I have walked before you in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in your sight.” Hezekiah wept bitterly. Then Yahweh’s word came to Isaiah, saying, “Go, and tell Hezekiah, ‘Yahweh says, the God of David your father, “I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears. Behold, I will add fifteen years to your life.” (Isaiah 38:1-5 WEB)

Paul was a man of prayer. He prayed in tongues more than anyone. The apostles in the early church were praying people. Jesus was a Man of prayer. Why did He have to pray?
As much as He is God, He lived as a Man on earth.

Luke 6:17-19 - Before Jesus did something that was important in His ministry, He prayed all night.
Before the mighty miracles of healing that followed happened, Jesus prayed.

“He came down with them, and stood on a level place, with a crowd of his disciples, and a great number of the people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; as well as those who were troubled by unclean spirits, and they were being healed. All the multitude sought to touch him, for power came out of him and healed them all.” (Luke 6:17-19 WEB)

Mark 1:35 - Most of the time when we pray, it’s our solitary time with the Lord that no one else knows about.
Jesus praying here preceded the healing of the leper in Matthew 8.
That healing is significant because it was a sign of the Messiah.

“Early in the morning, while it was still dark, he rose up and went out, and departed into a deserted place, and prayed there.” (Mark 1:35 WEB)

Luke 9:28-29 - Jesus was transfigured as He was praying. The cause of His transfiguration was His prayer.
Jesus also prayed to multiply loaves and fishes.
Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Jesus prayed on the cross.
Every time Jesus did great miracles, it was preceded by His prayers to God.

“About eight days after these sayings, he took with him Peter, John, and James, and went up onto the mountain to pray. As he was praying, the appearance of his face was altered, and his clothing became white and dazzling.” (Luke 9:28-29 WEB)

When we pray in tongues, people in another corner of the earth may get blessed.
One of a pastor’s biggest duties is to pray.
When you live a life of prayer, temptation loses its hold on you.
You will not lose when you pray.

I Peter 5:7 - Cast all your cares upon God for He cares for you. Step in and give Him all your worries.

“casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7 WEB)
