21 April 2019 - Resurrection Sunday: Jesus Took My Sins and Gave Me His Righteousness - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes

John 1:16-17 - This is Pastor Prince’s favorite verse. It defines his ministry — to differentiate Law and Grace. 
Many Christians are mistaken that God is stern and angry with them.
God the Father does not look like an old man. 
Up in heaven, no one is old. Pastor Prince heard God say in his heart, “Up here we are forever young”. Growing old is because of sin. 
If you live in Him, you’ll be forever young. 
Those in hell also live forever, but not with the quality of life like believers have: eternal life. 
Moses is a servant but Jesus is the Son. 
A servant doesn’t have the same standing and position as the Son. 
The Law was given from a distance — God gave it from a mountain and through intermediaries: angels. The mountain was shrouded in darkness, fire, thunderings, causing even Moses to fear and tremble.
But we are not under Law. We are under Grace. 
Grace came — that speaks of closeness and being personal.
The first miracle of the Law done by Moses was to turn water into blood, resulting in death. 
The first of miracle of a Grace done by Jesus was to turn water into wine, resulting in celebration. 
Under the Law, God visits the sins and inquiries of a person up to the third and fourth generation.
Under Grace, God remembers our sins no more.
There has been a change. At the cross, the Law’s holy and righteous demands were fulfilled and God’s love for man was magnified.
The Ten Commandments is to be obeyed in both in the actions and in the heart. The Law was given to bring man to the end of himself, so that he would know he needs a Savior.
Don’t mess with sin — sin will cost you more than you’re willing to pay. 

“From his fullness we all received grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.” ‭‭(John‬ ‭1:16-17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

We were all born in sin. Our lives are intricately linked to our ancestors — we received sin in our blood from them.
God made a garden and placed the first man and woman in there.
God told them that they are free to eat from any tree except for 1 tree: the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. 
God made man with free choice. That tree existed in the garden to allow man to exercise their free choice. 
Man chose sin — you can choose sin but you can’t choose its consequences. The wages of sin is penalty. 

If God forgave man without a righteous basis, He would be loving, but not righteous. 
He can’t just sweep our sins under the rug and say that boys will be boys, and just acquit us of our sins.

Jesus wept at Lazarus’ tomb because He knew that it’s not God’s plan for man to die. 
Death is foreign to us. We hate to talk about death. Death has been conquered for us. 
Jesus didn’t rise up spiritually — He rose bodily! 
Sin has been put away, in the body of Jesus. 
God hates sin, but God loves you. Sin is destroying everything good in your life for you. 
God hates sin so much because God loves you very much.

How do you know that a prisoner has been cleared of all his charges? When he is released from the prison. That’s what happened when Jesus rose from the dead — it proves that all our sins were forgiven. We have been acquitted! You have to use your free choice to believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

The sacrificial lamb is a picture of Jesus, the Lamb of God

​God could have just wiped mankind off the face of this earth and He would be righteous to do so. 
He didn’t have to send Jesus to die for us. 
He could have just begun anew and created a new creature — after all, He had made angels and man before.

God ordained a system whereby He could be righteous in forgiving man. 

Under the Old Testament, we were given visual aids — types and shadows.
Under the Law, a sacrificial lamb would be brought to the priest in Israel. 
The priest represents God, looking for sins, blemishes and what is unholy.
God doesn’t examine you for your sins. That would be redundant because you’re already there to offer a sacrifice for your sins. He’s examining your lamb. 
The sacrificial lamb represents Jesus. It has to be unblemished.
Pastor Prince believes that Jesus is the most attractive and good looking Person in existence — because He’s unblemished. Not a trace of disfigurement from sin.

After the priest examines the lamb and approves of the lamb, the offerer lays his hands on the lamb’s head as a form of identification.
The lamb receives the offerer’s sins — now the lamb bears the offerer’s sins.
Now the offerer is handed a knife and he must kill the lamb — represents Jesus’ death at the cross.

God gave His Son when the world didn’t care about Him and was rebelling against Him. 
The world put God’s Son on the cross, as if to say “This is what we think of your Son!”
But that was God’s plan all along.

Your credit card is not a payment. The animal sacrifices under the Law were like credit card payments. 
The true payment was made by Jesus Christ. 
John the Baptist proclaimed about Jesus, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world!”
Now the sins are no longer just covered, but they are taken away. 

The sacrificial altar under the Law represents the cross — it has 4 corners. 
The lamb is burnt at the altar. 
The fire on the altar represents the fire of God’s judgment. 
God’s righteousness was satisfied at the cross because Jesus took our punishment at the cross. 
This is not religion, this is a reality. 

Now the offerer walks away different: he walks away righteous, without his sins. 
The lamb took his place of sin and he took the lamb’s place of righteousness.
He walks away with God’s favor shining upon him. 

Proverbs 10:6 - Today if you believe in Jesus, you are the righteousness of God in Christ, and blessings are upon your head.

“Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.” (Proverbs‬ ‭10:6‬ ‭WEB)

Jesus is both willing and able to cleanse us of our sins

Jesus is the Avenger of all avengers. He avenged you of sins and of you enemy —This is truly the endgame. 

We are standing in the place that has already been burnt by the fire of God’s wrath.
Now only blessings remain for us. Goodness and mercy will hunt us down all the days of our lives. 

Under the Law, uncleanness was more powerful than holiness and uncleanness could contaminate you.
Under the Law, people couldn’t touch a leper if not they would become unclean. 

At the Mount of Beatitudes, a leper hid behind a large rock listening to Jesus, and he came secretly to Jesus and said “If You are willing, you can make me clean.”
Jesus touched the leper and said “I am willing,” healing him. 
This means that Jesus’ Grace is greater than the uncleanness of sin. 
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. 
He is both willing and able to clean and heal you.
Jesus took our place, dying in our place.

Romans 4:22-25 - How do you know that a prisoner has been cleared of all his charges? When he is released from the prison.
That’s what happened when Jesus rose from the dead — it proves that all our sins were forgiven. 
We have been acquitted! You have to use your free choice to believe in Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
There’s an enemy out there called Satan and he’s the one causing all the messes in this world. 
The thief (Satan) comes to kill, to steal and to restore. 
But Jesus came to give us life, and life more abundantly.
We believe in a living Jesus, not a dead Jesus. 

“wherefore also it was reckoned to him to righteousness. And it was not written on his account alone, that it was reckoned to him, but also on ours, to whom it is about to be reckoned — to us believing on Him who did raise up Jesus our Lord out of the dead, who was delivered up because of our offences, and was raised up because of our being declared righteous.” (Romans‬ ‭4:22-25‬ ‭YLT1898‬‬)

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your gift: Your Son Jesus Christ. I believe that at the cross, He took all my sins in His body and consumed it all. He took my judgment. I thank You that today You see me as if I’m as righteous as Jesus. I am forgiven and acquitted. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen! ​
