New Sermon Notes: Pastor Joseph Prince taught us about the kind of New Covenant thinking and behavior that is well pleasing to God.

Knowledge alone puffs up. What we need is revelation knowledge when we read God’s word.

People will enjoy spending time around you because the Spirit of Christ is in you.

Matthew‬ ‭16:13-18 - The revelation of “Jesus as the Christ and the Son of the Living God” is the rock that the church is built upon.

“When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew‬ ‭16:13-18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

2 Timothy 2:15 - For those who have the desire to become pastors or Bible teachers (these are examples of “workman”), study God’s word so that you will not be ashamed.

“Give diligence to present yourself approved by God, a workman who doesn’t need to be ashamed, properly handling the Word of Truth.” (2 Timothy‬ ‭2:15‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Joshua 1:6-9 - Don’t be occupied with your enemy but be occupied with God’s word and you will have good success.

““Be strong and courageous; for you shall cause this people to inherit the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous. Be careful to observe to do according to all the law which Moses my servant commanded you. Don’t turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may have good success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success. Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be dismayed, for Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go.”” (Joshua‬ ‭1:6-9‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

When Jesus ascended back to Heaven, He gave the church gifts, including the gift of pastors and teachers. We need to learn from them too and not have the prideful attitude of only getting revelation directly from God.
Be under the spout where the glory comes out.

Compliments never make us grow. It is the constructive correction that helps us to grow.

New Sermon Notes: Pastor Joseph Prince taught us about the kind of New Covenant thinking and behavior that is well pleasing to God.

God empowers you to be loving, kind, and patient

Galatians 4:4-5 - Jesus did not come to enforce the Law, otherwise no one could come to Him. He came to redeem those who were under the Law.

“But when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son, born to a woman, born under the law, that he might redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as children.” (Galatians‬ ‭4:4-5‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

John 16:12-15 - Not every translation highlights Jesus’ words in red. After the four gospels, the words are still the words of Jesus—the ascended Christ. The writers of the letters are just secretaries who are writing by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

““I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now. However, when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming. He will glorify me, for he will take from what is mine and will declare it to you. All things that the Father has are mine; therefore I said that he takes of mine and will declare it to you.” (John‬ ‭16:12-15‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Matthew 10:5-6 - Jesus’ first coming was to the Jews. They had the chance to receive their Messiah but they rejected Him.

“Jesus sent these twelve out and commanded them, saying, “Don’t go among the Gentiles, and don’t enter into any city of the Samaritans. Rather, go to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” (Matthew‬ ‭10:5-6‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Luke 4:16-24 - Jesus closed the book without reading the rest because His first coming was to complete the work of redemption. Not for vengeance.
We need to correctly divide the word.

“He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. He entered, as was his custom, into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. The book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. He opened the book, and found the place where it was written, “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed, and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him. He began to tell them, “Today, this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” All testified about him and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth; and they said, “Isn’t this Joseph’s son?” He said to them, “Doubtless you will tell me this proverb, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done at Capernaum, do also here in your hometown.’” He said, “Most certainly I tell you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown.” (Luke‬ ‭4:16-24‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Isaiah 61:1-2 - This is what Isaiah 61:1-2 says. Jesus did not read “the day of vengeance”.

“The Lord Yahweh’s Spirit is on me, because Yahweh has anointed me to preach good news to the humble. He has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to those who are bound, to proclaim the year of Yahweh’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,” (Isaiah‬ ‭61:1-2‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Luke 9:52-56 - John the apostle of love said these words ignorantly.
There was a Biblical precedence for James and John to say these words. Elijah called down fire and consumed soldiers also in Samaria. It was right for Elijah’s day, but not anymore under the New Covenant of Grace.
The fire fell on the animal sacrifice on Mount Carmel, but after that in Samaria, the fire fell upon the people. It is a picture of Jesus’ first coming (acceptable year of the Lord) and second coming (day of vengeance).

“and sent messengers before his face. They went and entered into a village of the Samaritans, so as to prepare for him. They didn’t receive him, because he was traveling with his face set toward Jerusalem. When his disciples, James and John, saw this, they said, “Lord, do you want us to command fire to come down from the sky and destroy them, just as Elijah did?” But he turned and rebuked them, “You don’t know of what kind of spirit you are. For the Son of Man didn’t come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them.” They went to another village.” (Luke‬ ‭9:52-56‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

At Mount Carmel, fire fell from Heaven onto the animal sacrifice and not on the guilty people around. It is a picture of Jesus taking our judgment upon Himself. At Mount Carmel, the sacrifice, water, and the twelve stones were all consumed by the fire, but on Mount Calvary, Jesus the sacrifice still remained after fully receiving fiery judgment of God. The sacrifice under Grace is greater than under the Law.

Appreciate people and thank them when they do things for you. Don’t have a sense of entitlement as if people are supposed to serve you.

Mark‬ ‭16:17-18 - Jesus said that if the same miracles He did in Capernaum were done in Sodom, they would have repented. The sin of rejecting Grace is worse than the sin of Sodom. The key to leading Sodom to repentance is miracles. Pray for people to experience miracles in Jesus’ name. Lay your hands on the sick and pray that they shall recover.

“These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new languages; they will take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it will in no way hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”” (Mark‬ ‭16:17-18‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Miles Coverdale who translated the whole Bible into English, said this about the principle of Bible interpretation: “It shall greatly help ye to understand the Scriptures if thou mark not only what is spoken or written, but of whom and to whom, with what words, at what time, where, to what intent, with what circumstances, considering what goeth before and what followeth after.”

Philippians 2:12-13 - We cannot work for our salvation. We can work out (demonstrate tangibly) our salvation because God works the desire and power in us.
Salvation is not just salvation from Hell, but salvation from every form of trouble.

“So then, my beloved, even as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God who works in you both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” (Philippians‬ ‭2:12-13‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

God is well pleased when you are loving, kind, and patient towards others. The pleasure of loving is not in getting something back, but in loving itself.

People don’t have to change for you to love them. Bless them who curse you.

Colossians 1:11 - Divine power and might comes to you to make you more steadfast, enduring, and patient. Pray this Spirit-inspired prayer daily.

“strengthened with all power, according to the might of his glory, for all endurance and perseverance with joy,” (Colossians‬ ‭1:11‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Don’t give wealthy people preferential treatment over poor people. See others how they are in the spirit: in Christ (fellow believers) or not in Christ (unbelievers).
