New Sermon Notes: Pastor Joseph Prince taught us important principles of Bible interpretation so that we can know how to study the God-breathed Scriptures for ourselves, and be thoroughly equipped for every good work!

Preachers are just human vessels, oracles of God. They need to be receptive and hear accurately to proclaim God’s word to the people.

There are many Mary and many Joseph, but only one David in the Bible. God wants the name David to be associated with kingship. Jesus is called the Son of David.

The Gospel of Matthew is the Gospel
of the Sovereign and His Sermons.

The Gospel of Mark is the Gospel of the Servant and His Service.

The Gospel of Luke is the Gospel of the Savior and His Salvation.

The Gospel of John is the Gospel of the Son of God and His supremacy.

Man is the only creation made in God’s image. Mankind was the last to be made, and we are like the underlords of God’s whole creation.

The first Adam succumbed to Satan’s temptation and fell. God sent the Second Adam, Jesus Christ, to recover what the first Adam lost.

Death and judgment are behind us. We have died in Christ and are resurrected. The world is waiting for death in front of them, but not us. When we step out of this body, we will be in Heaven, with God.

In AD 70, General Titus led the Roman Army to raze Jerusalem to the ground.
General Titus commanded his soldiers not to destroy the temple, but as the soldiers fought, some of the torches of fire fell into the temple and the gold in between the cracks of the stones of the temple melted and started flowing down.
This caused the soldiers to ignore General Titus' command and throw down the stones of the temple to get the gold.
The son of the emperor of Rome said don't destroy the temple, whereas the Son of God (Jesus) said not one stone will be left on another.
Jesus won. Jesus' word always comes to pass. You can be sure that God's prophecies will come to pass.
Today if you go to Israel, you can still see the huge stones that were toppled over.

There are earthquakes, wars, and rumors of wars. When all these things begin to happen, look up for your redemption draws near. The redemption of your body in the Rapture.

The name Elizabeth means “My God promised”. The word for promise in Hebrew is also the word for seven. On the day of the announcement of the queen’s death there was a double rainbow (7 colors). The queen reigned for seventy years.

2 Timothy 3:1-2 - These are signs of the end times, and we are seeing these especially on social media these days.

“But know this: that in the last days, grievous times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,” (2 Timothy‬ ‭3:1-2‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

You must know the context of the Scriptures you are studying

2 Timothy 3:14-17 - Spend time in God’s word. The Scriptures are God-breathed. The same breath that gave you life in your mother’s womb is the breath you receive when you open the Scriptures.
We will be thoroughly equipped through the Scriptures.

“But you remain in the things which you have learned and have been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them. From infancy, you have known the holy Scriptures which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that each person who belongs to God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy‬ ‭3:14-17‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

The Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, is this evening. The day of new beginnings.

The Feast of Firstfruits is a picture of Jesus who resurrected from the dead to present Himself as the Firstfruits from the dead. Since there is the Firstfruits, the rest of the harvest will follow (the rest of us).

George Washington died from excessive blood loss during a bloodletting procedure to try and cure his sickness. The Book of Leviticus shows that life is in the blood, so it shows the foolishness of bloodletting.

The oldest book of the Bible is the Book of Job. In it, we learn that people will be identified by their fingerprints.

If you study the Bible looking for hidden treasures, they will be revealed to you. God’s word is health and life to all your flesh.

Miles Coverdale is the man who translated the first English Bible. He said these words: “It shall greatly help ye to understand the Scriptures if thou mark not only what is spoken or written, but of whom and to whom, with what words, at what time, where, to what intent, with what circumstances, considering what goeth before and what followeth after.”

The church has to be geared to the times but anchored to the Rock. The devil wants people to think that church is old fashioned and boring, so that the world won’t want to learn more about Christianity. The tribe of Benjamin has a wolf on its banner. Perhaps the church can send out sheep in wolf’s clothing to win souls for God’s Kingdom.

Colossians‬ ‭3:17, 23‬ - Do your best at work as service unto the Lord. Your job is to make your company profitable. When you do this, your boss will see that God is with you. Be fruitful and productive at work.

“Whatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him…And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,” (Colossians‬ ‭3:17, 23‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

1 Timothy 5:17 - Elders of the church who labor in the Word and teaching should be worthy of double honor (salary).

“Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and in teaching.” (1 Timothy‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Leviticus 26:10 - We must interpret the Old Testament in the light of the New Testament and the cross of Jesus Christ.

“You shall eat old supplies long kept, and you shall move out the old because of the new.” (Leviticus‬ ‭26:10‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Hebrews 10:26-27 - Every sin you commit is willful sin. This passage is not talking about losing your salvation when you sin.

“For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries.” (Hebrews‬ ‭10:26-27‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Hebrews 10:1-2 - If the animal sacrifices worked under the Law, then the worshippers would have no more consciousness of sins.
Believers who are always conscious of sin are in unbelief, not understanding what Jesus’ work at the cross accomplished for them.

“For the law, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near. Or else wouldn’t they have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins?” (Hebrews‬ ‭10:1-2‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Always interpret obscure passages with clear passages of Scripture. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that we would NOT perish but have everlasting life. Those who believe in Jesus will never come into judgment but have passed out of death into life.

Hebrews 10:9-10 - The first W is “will”: Jesus came to do the Father’s will to take away the covenant of the Ten Commandments and to establish the New Covenant of Grace.
The Law was given to bring man to his knees and to deflate his pride.
We have been sanctified once for all time through the offering of Jesus at the cross.

“then he has said, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He takes away the first, that he may establish the second, by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.” (Hebrews‬ ‭10:9-10‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Hebrews 10:11-12 - The second W is “work”: The work of Jesus is just once for all time.
He sat down at the right hand of God after His work, while the priests under the Old Covenant could not be seated.

“Every priest indeed stands day by day serving and offering often the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins, but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God,” (Hebrews‬ ‭10:11-12‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

2 Kings 4:10 - Two of these four furniture pieces have to do with rest: bed (for the night) and the chair (for the day).
The table and the lamp stand can also be found in the Tabernacle.

“Please, let’s make a little room on the roof. Let’s set a bed, a table, a chair, and a lamp stand for him there. When he comes to us, he can stay there.”” (2 Kings‬ ‭4:10‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

Hebrews 10:15-22 - The last W is “witness”. The Holy Spirit dwells in the church (in every believer).
God’s Spirit witnesses to us that our sins are forgiven and remembered no more.
We serve in church out of love and thankfulness, not as a sin offering to make up for our wrongs.
God is not identifying you by your indwelling sin. You are identified in Christ.
When you pray, you enter the true Holy of Holies, not just the one built by human hands on earth.
The “new and living way” has the meaning of freshly slain in the Hebrew. Have a sense that Jesus just died for you at the cross. Every time you come to God, you receive more life from Him.

“The Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days,” says the Lord, “I will put my laws on their heart, I will also write them on their mind;” then he says, “I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more.” Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh, and having a great priest over God’s house, let’s draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and having our body washed with pure water,” (Hebrews‬ ‭10:15-22‬ ‭WEBUS‬‬)

So “sinning willfully” in Hebrews 10 is about an unbeliever turning away from Jesus after hearing the Gospel being preached. It is not about a believer losing his salvation after sinning.

Don’t just receive knowledge of the truth. Jesus Himself is the Truth.
