New Sermon Notes: Pastor Joseph Prince warned us about the most subtle and effective type of witchcraft that happens in the church. He also shared how true holiness comes under the New Covenant of Grace.

Today is the anniversary of Reformation Day. On that day, Martin Luther nailed his thesis on the door of the church.

The 5 solas (alone) of the Reformation:
Scripture alone
Christ alone
Grace alone
Faith alone
For the glory of God alone

Ephesians 2:8-9 - Salvation is totally by grace through faith, not by any of our works.

"for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, that no one would boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9 WEB)

Galatians 1:7 - Grace is the Gospel.

“and there isn’t another “good news.” Only there are some who trouble you, and want to pervert the Good News of Christ.” (Galatians‬ ‭1:7‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 1:16-17 - The Gospel of Christ reveals the righteousness of God that we have received.

“For I am not ashamed of the Good News of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes; for the Jew first, and also for the Greek. For in it is revealed God’s righteousness from faith to faith. As it is written, “But the righteous shall live by faith.”” (Romans‬ ‭1:16-17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 3:26 - God is the one who supplies our righteousness as a gift.

“to demonstrate his righteousness at this present time; that he might himself be just, and the justifier of him who has faith in Jesus.” (Romans‬ ‭3:26‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

We are complete in Christ and seated with Christ in Heaven. The finishing post is the starting post for a Christian.

2 Timothy 2:22 - In the New Covenant, righteousness is always a gift, not something you can earn by your own efforts.

“Flee from youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.” (2 Timothy‬ ‭2:22‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Ephesians 1:6 - We are highly favored in Christ the Beloved.

“to the praise of the glory of his grace, by which he freely gave us favor in the Beloved,” (Ephesians‬ ‭1:6‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

We are so near to God, as near as Christ is to the Father.

The apostle John knew how much he was loved by Jesus. It is one thing to be loved, and another thing to know it. John called himself “the disciple whom Jesus loved” in his own gospel. He was practicing Jesus’ love for him.

John 13:23 - By leaning on Jesus’ breast (chest), John was demonstrating that he was relying on Jesus’ love for him.
In the Old Testament, the urim and thummim were placed in the the high priest’s breastplate, and these were used to discern God’s guidance and direction.
When we rely on God’s love, we will be able to sense his leading easily.

“One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was at the table, leaning against Jesus’ breast.” (John‬ ‭13:23‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Peter boasted in his own love for Jesus, but he did not know the sinfulness of his own flesh. Peter was sincere when he said he would go to prison and even die for Jesus, but his flesh failed him.

Man cannot love God with all his heart, soul, strength, and mind. Only God can do that for us, and it was proven through Jesus’ death at the cross.

John 21:22 - Peter had to be told to follow, while John was already following. When you rely on God’s love, you will enjoy divine intimacy with Him.

“Then Peter, turning around, saw a disciple following. This was the disciple whom Jesus loved, the one who had also leaned on Jesus’ breast at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is going to betray You?” Peter seeing him, said to Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?” Jesus said to him, “If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you? You follow me.”” (John‬ ‭21:20-22‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Rely on God's love and rest in His Grace

Titus 2:11-12 - Grace will teach us. When we teach people grace, grace will teach the people.

“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we would live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world;” (Titus‬ ‭2:11-12‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 6:14 - This is clear. When you are under Grace, sin will not have dominion over you.

“For sin will not have dominion over you. For you are not under law, but under grace.” (Romans‬ ‭6:14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Imagine if you see red spots on a person’s face, and the person says “Don’t worry, it’s just a harmless rash.” What you catch is the Chickenpox that he has, not the “harmless rash” that he said. When you are under Grace, you will manifest holiness. It is not just about saying you must being holy. It has to be from being under Grace.

Genesis 17:4 - God called Abraham a father of many before he even had one child.

““As for me, behold, my covenant is with you. You will be the father of a multitude of nations.” (Genesis‬ ‭17:4‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 4:17 - God calls the things that are not seen yet, as though they already happened.

Confess “I am the righteousness of God in Christ” even amidst your sin. Hypocrites will not talk about God while they enjoying their secret sins. Keep confessing and your breakthrough will come when you believe it. Pastor Prince shared a testimony of how a man was set free from thirty-five years of addiction to porn through confessing his righteousness in Christ.

1 John 5:4-5 - Our faith is what overcomes the world. Not our works.

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” (1 John‬ ‭5:4-5‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

If a sheep falls into mud, it will bleat and want to get out. On the other hand, a pig will love to be in the mud. Believers may fall into sin occasionally, but they always want a way out. They will not desire to remain in a sinful lifestyle.

There are some Christians who are only professors and not possessors of salvation. If they do not want to be out of their sinful lifestyle, it is a sign of a professing believer.

At Mount Sinai, the children of Israel said, “All that God commands us, we can do it.” They did not know the sinfulness of their flesh. God was good to them because of His Grace, not because they were good. The children of Israel murmured and complained in the wilderness, and yet God was gracious to them, providing for their needs.

It is not that God condoned sin. It is that the children of Israel were not under a covenant of Law. God dealt with them by grace (His covenant with Abraham).

Romans 2:4 - It is the goodness of God that leads to repentance.

“Or do you despise the riches of his goodness, forbearance, and patience, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?” (Romans‬ ‭2:4‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Exodus 19:12 - After man boasted in his own ability to obey God, God’s tone changed. He told them not to come near if not anything that touches the mountain will die.

“You shall set bounds to the people all around, saying, ‘Be careful that you don’t go up onto the mountain, or touch its border. Whoever touches the mountain shall be surely put to death.” (Exodus‬ ‭19:12‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Exodus 20:3 - After they boasted in their ability to keep God’s laws, the children of Israel made a golden calf. They never had such a desire before that. They broke the first commandment of the Law immediately.

““You shall have no other gods before me.” (Exodus‬ ‭20:3‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 5:20 - It is the Law that causes sin to increase. It reveals man’s sinfulness and stirs up sin in the flesh.

“The law came in besides, that the trespass might abound; but where sin abounded, grace abounded more exceedingly;” (Romans‬ ‭5:20‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Philippians 2:12-13 - This passage is not asking us to work for our own salvation by our works. You cannot work out what you do not first have inside you. When God works the love in us, we will work out that love towards others.

“So then, my beloved, even as you have always obeyed, not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God who works in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure.” (Philippians‬ ‭2:12-13‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Luke 7:47 - The revelation of how forgiven we are will empower us to forgive others. On the other hand, if you try your best to forgive, you will just feel more anger towards the person who did you wrong.

“Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.”” (Luke‬ ‭7:47‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Psalm 103:3 - We cannot receive the other benefits if we do not receive the first benefit first which is forgiveness of sins.

“who forgives all your sins; who heals all your diseases;” (Psalms‬ ‭103:3‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Acts 4:33 - The early church had great grace upon them because they heard the pure Gospel. They knew how forgiven they were.

“With great power, the apostles gave their testimony of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Great grace was on them all.” (Acts‬ ‭4:33‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Ephesians 4:32 - God has already forgiven you.

“And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.” (Ephesians‬ ‭4:32‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Luke 18:18-23 - Jesus gave the Law to the rich young ruler because he was boasting in his own ability to “do” and keep the Law.

“A certain ruler asked him, saying, “Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus asked him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good, except one—God. You know the commandments: ‘Don’t commit adultery,’ ‘Don’t murder,’ ‘Don’t steal,’ ‘Don’t give false testimony,’ ‘Honor your father and your mother.’” He said, “I have observed all these things from my youth up.” When Jesus heard these things, he said to him, “You still lack one thing. Sell all that you have, and distribute it to the poor. You will have treasure in heaven. Come, follow me.” But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was very rich.” (Luke‬ ‭18:18-23‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

James 2:10 - If you break any one of the Ten Commandments, you are considered as having broken them all. No one can earn or maintain their salvation through the Law.

“For whoever keeps the whole law, and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.” (James‬ ‭2:10‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Galatians 5:19-20, 22-23 - The flesh does works. The good virtues are the fruit of the Spirit. When you try to be good, it is a work of the flesh and you will end up sinning.

“Now the deeds of the flesh are obvious, which are: adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.” (Galatians‬ ‭5:19-20, 22-23‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

John 1:17 - Grace is about God doing, whereas the Law is about man doing.

“For the law was given through Moses. Grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.” (John‬ ‭1:17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Galatians 3:1 - Witchcraft in the church is about reintroducing the Law. The devil is never more subtle than when he comes as a religious devil. He does not blatantly ask you to sin. Instead, he suggests that you have to keep the Law, and that will stir up your flesh to sin.

“Foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you not to obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was openly portrayed among you as crucified?” (Galatians‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Genesis 4:10 - The first mention of a subject tells us important truths, but usually in an embryonic form. It will be elaborated later on in the Scriptures.
Here we learn that blood has a voice.

“Yahweh said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries to me from the ground.” (Genesis‬ ‭4:10‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 12:24 - Here we learn that Jesus’ blood speaks better things than the blood of Abel.

“to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better than that of Abel.” (Hebrews‬ ‭12:24‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Genesis 2:3 - This is the first mention of “holy”. Holy (Kadosh in Hebrew and Hagios in Greek) means “to be set apart”. Something is set apart because it is precious. The opposite of holiness is commonness.

“God blessed the seventh day, and made it holy, because he rested in it from all his work of creation which he had done.” (Genesis‬ ‭2:3‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 4:9-10 - The Sabbath is not talking about Saturday—that is not intended end. What it represents is the rest for God’s people—a rest from trying to become righteous through their works.
Trying is the Law. Trusting is Grace.
Work diligently at resting in God and believing in Him.

“There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God. For he who has entered into his rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from his. Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience.” (Hebrews‬ ‭4:9-11‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

John 6:28 - Our work is to believe in Jesus.

“They said therefore to him, “What must we do, that we may work the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”” (John‬ ‭6:28-29‬ ‭WEB‬‬)
