New Sermon Notes: Pastor Joseph Prince taught us about the difference between the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This baptism activates us to pray in tongues which has tremendous benefits in every way!

Romans 10:17 - God is not a respecter of persons, but He is a respecter of faith.
Do not worry that you have weak faith or not enough faith. Faith comes by hearing the word of God.
The word translated as “God” actually means “Christ” in the Greek.

“So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans‬ ‭10:17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

2 Thessalonians 1:3 - We can pray for God to help our faith grow exceedingly.

“We are bound to always give thanks to God for you, brothers, even as it is appropriate, because your faith grows exceedingly, and the love of each and every one of you towards one another abounds;” (2 Thessalonians‬ ‭1:3‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Mark 5:27-28, 34 - When you have faith, it causes God to zoom in on you even amidst a crowd.
The woman with the issue of blood had faith because she heard about Jesus.

“having heard the things concerning Jesus, came up behind him in the crowd, and touched his clothes. For she said, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be made well.” He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be cured of your disease.”” (Mark‬ ‭5:27-28, 34‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Luke 24:27 - We come to God through the Scriptures. When we read it, God speaks to us.

“Beginning from Moses and from all the prophets, he explained to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself.” (Luke‬ ‭24:27‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 10:14 - Faith comes through the preached word concerning Christ.

“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher?” (Romans‬ ‭10:14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

John 11:49-52 - God can sovereignly put His words in mouths of those He wants to speak through.

“But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all, nor do you consider that it is advantageous for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.” Now he didn’t say this of himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.” (John‬ ‭11:49-52‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Genesis 2:24 - Parents are the ones who are anointed to raise their children. We do not want just any outside influence to shape our children.

“Therefore a man will leave his father and his mother, and will join with his wife, and they will be one flesh.” (Genesis‬ ‭2:24‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Isaiah 44:3-4 - God will pour out His Spirit and blessing on us and our children.

“For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and streams on the dry ground. I will pour my Spirit on your descendants, and my blessing on your offspring: and they will spring up among the grass, as willows by the watercourses.” (Isaiah‬ ‭44:3-4‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Psalm 1:3 - When we have the Holy Spirit and God’s blessing, we will be like this tree.

“He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that produces its fruit in its season, whose leaf also does not wither. Whatever he does shall prosper.” (Psalms‬ ‭1:3‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Baptism of the Holy Spirit empowers you to pray in tongues

Isaiah 60:1-5 - God keeps speaking to Pastor Prince that we are already in these times.
Some people think that this passage is about the Millennium, but there will not be darkness covering the earth during the Millennium. It will be light on earth when Jesus rules from here.

““Arise, shine; for your light has come, and Yahweh’s glory has risen on you. For, behold, darkness will cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but Yahweh will arise on you, and his glory shall be seen on you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. “Lift up your eyes all around, and see: they all gather themselves together. They come to you. Your sons will come from far away, and your daughters will be carried in arms. Then you shall see and be radiant, and your heart will thrill and be enlarged; because the abundance of the sea will be turned to you. The wealth of the nations will come to you.” (Isaiah‬ ‭60:1-5‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Isaiah 59:21 - This verse provides the context of Isaiah 60:1. The glory of the Lord rises upon us because of the New Covenant.
Under the New Covenant, the promise of God is the Holy Spirit.
Pastor Prince believes that this passage is talking about praying in the Spirit (praying in tongues).

““As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says Yahweh. “My Spirit who is on you, and my words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, nor out of the mouth of your offspring, nor out of the mouth of your offspring’s offspring,” says Yahweh, “from henceforth and forever.”” (Isaiah‬ ‭59:21‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Acts 10:43-45 - The Jews realized that the Gentiles were also saved because they could speak in tongues too.
It was when Peter talked about the forgiveness of sins through Christ that the Holy Spirit fell on the Gentiles.
The words “fell on” actually means “embraced”. The Holy Spirit gave the people a bear hug.

“All the prophets testify about him, that through his name everyone who believes in him will receive remission of sins.” While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word. They of the circumcision who believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the Gentiles.”” (Acts‬ ‭10:43-45‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Angels are not sent to preach the Gospel. God sends us to preach the Gospel. You would think that the angel could have preached directly to Cornelius, and that would be quite convincing, but God wanted Peter to preach the Gospel to Cornelius and his household.

Acts 1:4-5 - The disciples knew that the promise of the Father is the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Once you are saved, you have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, but you are not yet baptized in the Holy Spirit.
It is one thing to have the Holy Spirit in you, and another thing for you to be in the Holy Spirit. Baptism means immersion.

“Being assembled together with them, he commanded them, “Don’t depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which you heard from me. For John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”” (Acts‬ ‭1:4-5‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Galatians 3:13-14 - All of the blessings of God culminate in the gift of the Holy Spirit.

“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. For it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree,” that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Christ Jesus; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Galatians‬ ‭3:13-14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Corinthians 12:13 - This is talking about being saved, not about the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

“For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all given to drink into one Spirit.” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭12:13‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Acts 1:8 - When you are baptized in the Holy Spirit, you will receive power.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. You will be witnesses to me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the uttermost parts of the earth.”” (Acts‬ ‭1:8‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Corinthians 13:1 - When you pray in tongues, you can be speaking in a known language but not one that you know naturally. You could also be preaching in a language of angels.

“If I speak with the languages of men and of angels, but don’t have love, I have become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.” (‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13:1‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Corinthians 14:2 - When you pray in tongues, you are speaking mysteries.

“For he who speaks in another language speaks not to men, but to God; for no one understands; but in the Spirit he speaks mysteries.” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:2‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Corinthians 14:14 - When you pray in tongues, you do not understand what you are talking about. It is good because oftentimes, our mind messes things up.
The devil hates it when we pray in tongues because he does not understand what we are saying.

“For if I pray in another language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Corinthians 14:15 - Pray both with the spirit and with the understanding.

“What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also. I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:15‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Corinthians 14:18-19 - The Corinthian Christians were radical about praying in tongues and yet the apostle Paul even prayed more on tongues than them.
However, in a church service, it is better to speak with the understanding so that people know what is being said.
Pray in tongues in private, and when it is time to speak with the understanding in public, the power of God will be there to confirm the words.

“I thank my God, I speak with other languages more than you all. However in the assembly I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might instruct others also, than ten thousand words in another language.” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:18-19‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

John 14:26, 16:13 - We can release our children to the Holy Spirit because He will teach them all things.

“But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you…However when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth, for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he hears, he will speak. He will declare to you things that are coming.” (John‬ ‭14:26, 16:13‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Isaiah 54:13 - Our childrens’ peace (shalom) will be great. Shalom means nothing broken, nothing out of place, everything integrated and whole.

“All your children will be taught by Yahweh; and your children’s peace will be great.” (Isaiah‬ ‭54:13‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Proverbs 17:22 - Be full of joy because it will be healing and health to your body.
A broken spirit dries the bones and harms the body.

“A cheerful heart makes good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” (Proverbs‬ ‭17:22‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Nehemiah 8:10 - The strength here is not just spiritual strength—also physical strength.

“Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to him for whom nothing is prepared, for today is holy to our Lord. Don’t be grieved, for the joy of Yahweh is your strength.”” (Nehemiah‬ ‭8:10‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Ephesians 2:6 - We must start off with our posture as being seated in Heaven as heavenly beings, and then step down into our relationships here on earth.

“and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,” (Ephesians‬ ‭2:6‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Ephesians 4:1 - We must understand the wealth we have received as Christians, as written in Ephesians 1. That will enable us to walk worthily of our high calling.
Jesus knew who He is, and that is why He could wash His disciples’ feet without being servile. That act was full of glory and majesty.

“I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called,” (Ephesians‬ ‭4:1‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

As heavenly beings, we do not need to be walking according to the Ten Commandments. We will be disgusted with sin and we will do good things that far exceed the requirements of the Law. We will give generously, celebrate others when they are blessed, and love our spouse.

John 20:22 - This is the moment when the disciples were born again. This was the Feast of Firstfruits. They received the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, but not yet the baptism of the Holy Spirit (becoming Spirit-filled).

“When he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit!” (John‬ ‭20:22‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Acts 2:4 - The Holy Spirit gives us the utterances, but we have to choose to speak them out.

“They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.” (Acts‬ ‭2:4‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 8:14 - The Holy Spirit leads us—He does not drive us like demons do.
Demons drive the people they possess to do things against their will.

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God.” (Romans‬ ‭8:14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

God gave us free choice and He respects it. That is why He put the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the Garden of Eden. If there was no choice, then free choice would be a farce.

James 1:17 - God never intended for earthquakes, hurricanes, and volcanic eruptions to happen. This earth is fallen because of Adam’s sin. God is good.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow.” (James‬ ‭1:17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Joshua 3:13 - The priests had to step in first before the waters of the River Jordan would be cut off. We have to start speaking first and the Spirit will continue to provide utterances.

“It shall be that when the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of Yahweh, the Lord of all the earth, rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan will be cut off. The waters that come down from above shall stand in one heap.”” (Joshua‬ ‭3:13‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Ephesians 5:18-19 - Our part is to start speaking with the spirit.

“Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs; singing, and making melody in your heart to the Lord;” (Ephesians‬ ‭5:18-19‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Acts 19:1-7 - These disciples were saved. However they had not been baptized in the Holy Spirit yet.
Paul laid his hands on them and prayed and these disciples were baptized in the Holy Spirit and began to pray in tongues.

“While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed through the upper country, came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples. He said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They said to him, “No, we haven’t even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” He said, “Into what then were you baptized?” They said, “Into John’s baptism.” Paul said, “John indeed baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe in the one who would come after him, that is, in Jesus.” When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul had laid his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke with other languages and prophesied. They were about twelve men in all.” (Acts‬ ‭19:1-7‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

2 Timothy 1:6 - We stir up the gift of praying in tongues by using it. This is the only one of the spiritual gifts (charismata) of the Holy Spirit that can be operated at will.
This gift lights up all the other gifts, just like the central candle on a seven-branched menorah (lamp stand) Jews use to light up the other six candles.

“For this cause, I remind you that you should stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” (2 Timothy‬ ‭1:6‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

John 7:38-39 - When you pray in tongues, rivers of living water will flow out from you. Instead of having a spirit of fear, you will receive a spirit of love, power, and a sound mind.

“He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, from within him will flow rivers of living water.” But he said this about the Spirit, which those believing in him were to receive. For the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus wasn’t yet glorified.” (John‬ ‭7:38-39‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Luke 11:11-13 - When you ask the Father for the baptism of the Holy Spirit, you will receive it. You will not receive an evil spirit.

““Which of you fathers, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he won’t give him a snake instead of a fish, will he? Or if he asks for an egg, he won’t give him a scorpion, will he? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him?”” (Luke‬ ‭11:11-13‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Pastor Prince prayed for us to be filled with the Holy Spirit, baptized in Him.
