13 September 2020 - Praying in Tongues: Your Powerful Threshing Sledge - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes

Pastor Joseph Prince taught that the gift of praying in tongues is a precious firstborn inheritance. It is a New Covenant weapon that destroys your mountains of problems and receives God's blessings, so pray in the Spirit often!

God is no respecter of persons. What He can do for someone else, He can also do for you.

While we were still sinners, God sent Jesus to die for us. Children who are loved will imitate their parents.

The entrance of God’s word gives light, even if the message seems to be irrelevant to your situation.
If you can’t see, just switch on the light instead of cursing the darkness.

Isaiah 59:19-60:3 - The western countries had the revelation of the power of the name of the Lord first.
But the glory of the Lord will be seen in the eastern countries (Asia).
“Rising of the sun” reminds us of Japan, “the land of the rising sun”.
God is going to do great things in the eastern countries like Japan, South Korea and even North Korea.
Glory comes after grace.
Keep God’s word in your mouth, especially praying in tongues.
The notable thing that Isaac did was to uncover the wells dug by Abraham. Those wells were covered up by the Philistines.
The devil is covering the wells of God’s word but God is progressively uncovering these truths now.
A lot of believers are afraid of the word “prosperity” spoken in church. The devil has covered this well.
Many hypocrites preach against prosperity but they themselves have big houses and two or three cars.
God’s will is for us to prosper in all things—but not for greed.
Pray in tongues. God’s glory will arise upon you.

“So shall they fear Yahweh’s name from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun; for he will come as a rushing stream, which Yahweh’s breath drives. “A Redeemer will come to Zion, and to those who turn from disobedience in Jacob,” says Yahweh. “As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says Yahweh. “My Spirit who is on you, and my words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart out of your mouth, nor out of the mouth of your offspring, nor out of the mouth of your offspring’s offspring,” says Yahweh, “from henceforth and forever.” ““Arise, shine; for your light has come, and Yahweh’s glory has risen on you. For, behold, darkness will cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but Yahweh will arise on you, and his glory shall be seen on you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.” (Isaiah‬ ‭59:19-60:3‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Acts 2:16-19 - God is pouring out His Spirit on all flesh in these last days.
When we prophesy, God will show wonders.

“But this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel: ‘It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Yes, and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days, I will pour out my Spirit, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the sky above, and signs on the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and billows of smoke.” (Acts‬ ‭2:16-19‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Follow after love and desire spiritual gifts. The Holy Spirit will work through you. When you sense a flowing of God’s love and compassion, follow that prompting and the gifts of the Holy Spirit will manifest.
These gifts are not just for ministering to believers, but to unbelievers as well.

The gift of praying in tongues is a threshing sledge that destroys mountains of problems

Praying with the understanding is limited, while praying in tongues is unlimited because the Holy Spirit prays through you.
In the Old Testament, no one could pray in tongues.
This gift is for those who have the Holy Spirit in them, not just upon them.
In the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit came upon people to accomplish a purpose before leaving them.
Now, the Holy Spirit never leaves nor abandons us.

Galatians 5:18 - To be under the Law is to obey the written commandments (Ten Commandment).
To be under Grace is to follow the Holy Spirit.
We are not just freed from the Law. Stopping there just brings you into another kind of bondage: the lusts of the flesh.
We are freed from the Law to follow the Holy Spirit.

“But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” (Galatians‬ ‭5:18‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Ephesians 6:17-18 - Praying in the Spirit is an offensive weapon.
You ‘put on’ the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit through praying in tongues.

“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; with all prayer and requests, praying at all times in the Spirit, and being watchful to this end in all perseverance and requests for all the saints:” (Ephesians‬ ‭6:17-18‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Corinthians 14:15 - Praying in tongues is the same thing as praying with the spirit.

“What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also. I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:15‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Isaiah 41:15-16 - The word translated here as “teeth” has the meaning of “double mouth” in the original Hebrew word “piphiyyoth”. The root word “Peh” can mean mouth.
Mountains can represent huge problems. Jesus taught about speaking to the mountain for it to be thrown into the sea.
When you pray in tongues, it’s like progressively using a threshing sledge to thresh your mountains to beat them small, until they become like chaff. Finally, the chaff will be blown away.
When you pray, sometimes there is immediate manifestation, but at other times, it’s a progressive manifestation.
Sometimes when you pray, you may face spiritual warfare first, like how angels we’re battling in the spiritual realm while Daniel was praying for twenty-one days.
Pray your way through with perseverance.
Nagging is a work of the flesh, whereas prayer is a work of the Spirit, under Grace.
When you pray, you’re asking God to do it—not trusting in your own strength.

“Behold, I have made you into a new sharp threshing instrument with teeth. You will thresh the mountains, and beat them small, and will make the hills like chaff. You will winnow them, and the wind will carry them away, and the whirlwind will scatter them. You will rejoice in Yahweh. You will glory in the Holy One of Israel.” (Isaiah‬ ‭41:15-16‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Psalm 1:3-4 - The chaff is lighter than grain, so it blows away in the wind. As you pray in tongues, your problems will be gone like chaff blown away in the wind, leaving behind only what is good.

“He will be like a tree planted by the streams of water, that produces its fruit in its season, whose leaf also does not wither. Whatever he does shall prosper. The wicked are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.” (Psalms‬ ‭1:3-4‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Psalm 149:6 - The words “two-edged” is the same Hebrew word “piphiyyoth”.

“May the high praises of God be in their mouths, and a two-edged sword in their hand;” (Psalms‬ ‭149:6‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Acts 2:3-4 - The word “divided” is a picture of double-mouth. The tongue is a double-edged sword.

“Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts‬ ‭2:3-4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Hebrews 4:12 - The words “two-edged” in Greek is “distomos” which means “double mouth”.
When you pray in tongues, you become sensitive to what is from you and what is from God.

“For the word of God is living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and is able to discern the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews‬ ‭4:12‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Deuteronomy 21:17 - The words “double portion” literally means “double mouth” in Hebrew.
The gift of praying in tongues is a precious firstborn inheritance.

“but he shall acknowledge the firstborn, the son of the hated, by giving him a double portion of all that he has; for he is the beginning of his strength. The right of the firstborn is his.” (Deuteronomy‬ ‭21:17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

2 Kings 2:9-10 - The words “double portion” is “double mouth”.
This is a picture of praying in tongues being esteemed as a precious firstborn inheritance.
We have to esteem this gift highly like God does.

“When they had gone over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” Elisha said, “Please let a double portion of your spirit be on me.” He said, “You have asked a hard thing. If you see me when I am taken from you, it will be so for you; but if not, it will not be so.”” (2 Kings‬ ‭2:9-10‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The Greek word “stomos” which means mouth, reminds us of a plant’s stomata.
The stomata looks like the lips of a mouth.
The stomata allows for exchange of gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide.
The sounds of the jungle makes the plant grow well.
The sound of praying in tongues allows you to receive all the good blessings that God has for you.

2 Kings 2:11-12 - This is a picture of the Day of Pentecost.
If you see the Lord Jesus ascend, you will receive the mantle of firstborn anointing—Holy Spirit.
Elisha cried out “My father, my father”, like how we can cry out “Abba, Abba” because we have become God’s children.

“As they continued on and talked, behold, a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated them, and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. Elisha saw it, and he cried, “My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!” He saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes, and tore them in two pieces.” (2 Kings‬ ‭2:11-12‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Galatians 4:6 - We have received the Holy Spirit, so we know that God is our Father.

“And because you are children, God sent out the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!”” (Galatians‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The only gift that you can activate and stop at will is the gift of praying in tongues.
The Jews light up the middle candle of the menorah and use that lit candle to light the others.
Praying in tongues is like using a lit candle to light up the other candles—you will activate all the other eight gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Joshua 1:8 - The words of the Spirit in your mouth (praying in tongues) will cause you to enjoy good success.
The word “meditate” in Hebrew is “hagah” which means “to mutter”.
Mutter in tongues all day long.

“This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it; for then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall have good success.” (Joshua‬ ‭1:8‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Psalms 1:1-2 - When you read the Old Testament in the light of the New Testament, you’ll understand that the word “law” is replaced with the word “Spirit”.
We don’t meditate on the Law of Moses, but we follow the Holy Spirit. He is a divine person.
As you meditate (hagah) by praying in tongues, which is speaking utterances from the Spirit, you will experience the fullness of God’s blessings.

“Blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand on the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in Yahweh’s law. On his law he meditates day and night.” (Psalms‬ ‭1:1-2‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Some people who have never prayed in tongues before, are mistakenly waiting for some power to take over them and control them.
That’s how an evil spirit works, but not the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit wants your cooperation. It’s like a dance where you’re letting Him lead you.

Pastor Prince prayed for believers to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the gift of praying in tongues.
