6 September 2020 - Activate the Helmet of Salvation and the Sword of the Spirit - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes

Pastor Joseph Prince taught us how to rely on the Holy Spirit which produces in us a higher standard of moral excellence than is possible under the Law. By relying on the heavenly prayer language of "praying in the Spirit", we can repair our bodies, minds and position ourselves to receive breakthroughs which we don't know how to pray for in words!

2 Peter 1:2 - Grace, mercy and peace (shalom) is not multiplied by us doing more, but through the knowledge of God and Jesus our Lord.

“Grace to you and peace be multiplied in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,” (2 Peter‬ ‭1:2‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 10:14,17 - Faith can come and increase by hearing and hearing the word of Christ.
The context here is hearing through a preacher.

“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not heard? How will they hear without a preacher? ...So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans‬ ‭10:14, 17‬ ‭WEB‬)

Philippians 2:13 - The indwelling Holy Spirit works (energeo) in you to become both willing and able to do His purpose.

“For it is God who works in you both to will and to work, for his good pleasure.” (Philippians‬ ‭2:13‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Ephesians 4:28 - The Law says “Do not steal”, but Grace asks us to work with our hands so that we can give.
If you keep the Law. you can avoid stealing and still be stingy. But Grace makes you generous.

“Let him who stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, producing with his hands something that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need.” (Ephesians‬ ‭4:28‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Acts 20:35 - With man, we are more blessed to give than to receive.

“In all things I gave you an example, that so laboring you ought to help the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”” (Acts‬ ‭20:35‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 John 3:16 - The Law says “do not murder”, but Grace teaches us to lay down our lives for the brethren. Grace supersedes the moral requirements of the Law.

“By this we know love, because he laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.” (1 John‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Colossians 4:6 - The Law says “Do not lie”, but Grace makes us speak gracious words, seasoned with salt.
The Holy Spirit is grieved when we don’t speak words of Grace.
Even though Gideon was hiding in the threshing floor, God still called him a valiant man. This is extending undeserved favor.

“Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.” (Colossians‬ ‭4:6‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Ephesians 5:25 - The Law says “You shall not commit adultery”, but Grace teaches and empowers you to love your wife just as Christ loved the church.
If you are on bad terms with your wife, just focus on Jesus and see Him loving you.

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it;” (Ephesians‬ ‭5:25‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 7:4-6 - We are not under the covenant of the Law, but under the covenant of Grace. Jesus supersedes the standard of the Law, and yet He empowers us to live righteously. The Law will not bend to help you become righteous or live righteously.

“Therefore, my brothers, you also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you would be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we might produce fruit to God. For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law, worked in our members to bring out fruit to death. But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.” (Romans‬ ‭7:4-6‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Praying in tongues activates the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit

Romans 8:3-4 - As you allow the Holy Spirit to lead you, you are fulfilling the ordinance of the Law.

“For what the law couldn’t do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh; that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” (Romans‬ ‭8:3-4‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Galatians 5:4 - Christ becomes of no effect to those who try to keep the Law—they fall from Grace, like how the mercy seat of the Ark of the Covenant is placed above the tablets of the Ten Commandments inside the ark.
The Law activates the works of the flesh, whereas the Spirit produces the fruit of the Spirit.
Works are a result of effect, while fruits are the result of life.

“You are alienated from Christ, you who desire to be justified by the law. You have fallen away from grace.” (Galatians‬ ‭5:4‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The title “Christian” means anointed one.

The Holy Spirit leads you based on your unique situation. The Law of Moses is only ‘one size fits all’. We need to be sensitive to the flow of the Holy Spirit.

Grace is not natural. It is supernatural and heavenly.

When you put Jesus in the picture, the bitter waters of Mara turn sweet, and it will be refreshing to your soul.

Titus 2:11-13 - Grace has appeared. It is a person—our Lord Jesus Christ.
Preachers teach Grace, and Grace will teach the people how to live righteously.
Jesus is both God and Savior.
If you teach others to “do this or don’t do that”, you’re putting them under the Law, and it only leads to more sin.

“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we would live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world; looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ;” (Titus‬ ‭2:11-13‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Corinthians 14:14 - When you’re praying in tongues, your spirit is the one praying.
No one prayed in tongues during Old Testament times. It only began on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was given.
Being able to pray in tongues is one way which shows that the Holy Spirit is in you.

“For if I pray in another language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Tithing and Holy Communion are not works, they are responses to God’s love. They are not things to be “done” but they are to be “received”.
Melchizedek brought bread and wine to Abram and Abram received it. Abram responded with the tithe.

Our spirits are not healed. Our spirits are re-created, re-born. Our bodies are the ones that are healed.

1 Corinthians 14:4 - Praying in tongues repairs your body. When you’re praying in tongues, your body and soul (mind, will and emotions) are being built up like a temple.
The gift of praying in tongues has not ceased. It will only cease when the “perfect has come”—in eternity, when nothing imperfect is left in the world.

“He who speaks in another language edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the assembly.” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:4‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The apostle John said in the Book of Revelation of the saints in Heaven that “there was a multitude that no man can number”. But the same expression isn’t said of the souls in Hell.

Isaiah 59:19 - The western countries will have the revelation of the power of the name of the Lord. But the glory of the Lord will be seen in the eastern countries (Asia).
Why didn't Isaiah just write "east"? “Rising of the sun” reminds us of Japan, “the land of the rising sun”.
Glory comes after grace.

“So shall they fear The name of the LORD from the west, And His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.” (Isaiah‬ ‭59:19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Ephesians 6:17-18 - The whole armor of God consists of seven pieces. The last piece is praying in the Spirit.
The word “receive” is in the imperative. The helmet of salvation must be actively received.
Hope is like a helmet. It protects your mind.
“The saying” is rhema.
You receive the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit through praying in tongues.
Praying in tongues means the same thing as "praying in the Spirit".
Praying in tongues leads to a favorable, opportune (kairos) season for you.
When you don’t know how to pray, pray in tongues all day long, even softly under your breath.
You’re allowing the Holy Spirit to pray through you, and your breakthrough will suddenly happen at the right time.
Praying in tongues is allowing the One who loves you to pray through you. Psychologically, you’re resting in God’s ability, not your own.

“and the helmet of the salvation receive, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the saying of God, through all prayer and supplication praying at all times in the Spirit, and in regard to this same, watching in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints —” (Ephesians‬ ‭6:17-18‬ ‭YLT98‬‬)

Acts 2:1, 4 - The words “ability to speak”, according to Thayer, means “not a word of everyday speech, but one belonging to dignified and elevated discourse”.
Speaking in tongues is not caused by an evil spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who enables us to speak this prayer language.
Praying in tongues liberates you from worries and cares because you know that the Holy Spirit is doing something about your situation.

“Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one accord in one place...They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.” (Acts‬ ‭2:1, 4‬ ‭WEB‬)

The Holy Spirit is inside you the moment you placed your faith in Jesus as Lord. It is like having water in you. But when you get baptized in the Holy Spirit, it’s like diving into the water—being totally immersed.

Don’t interpret retrenchment as rejection. See it as a favorable step forward.

Recently, some teenagers unearthed gold coins in Israel. What happens to natural Israel will also happen to spiritual Israel (the church). Expect to be ushered into the third floor of the side chamber of Solomon’s temple which is full of treasures—gold, silver and the tithes.

Pastor Prince prayed for listeners to be baptized in the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said that the Father will give the Holy Spirit to whoever that asks for Him.

When you just begin to speak in tongues for the first time, it may sound like a baby’s unintelligible words, but keep practicing. Praying in tongues is a time to rest your mind and just use your mouth.
