Pastor Joseph Prince clarified the common misunderstandings about Hebrews 10 that cause many believers to become fearful of losing their salvation. When understood correctly, Hebrews 10 is a beautiful assurance of your blessedness in Christ!

The one thing that is needful is to hear God’s word every day. You will be worried about many things if you don’t first do that one thing.

Jesus didn’t correct Martha for her service. It was because she was worried about many things.

God’s word marks us for blessings and anointing so that we don’t share the common lot like the people of the world.

The Bible is not an ordinary book. It is bread of life.
Every time you spend time in God’s word, God speaks to you through it. You’ll receive a “now word” from Him.
The second way God speaks to you is through the inward witness.
When you step out of His will, there is a disturbance of peace and you’ll know to step back onto the right path.

Joy and fear can not operate concurrently. Joy, love and peace thrives in an environment of security.
When a parent corrects a child in a secure environment of affirmed love, the child feels even more loved.

Hebrews 6:18 - This is the positive impossible in the same chapter.
People are usually more focused on the “it is impossible for them to be renewed to repentance.”
It is impossible for God not to bless you because He cannot lie, and He has sworn to bless you.

“that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set before us.” (Hebrews‬ ‭6:18‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

2 Corinthians 5:19-20 - When Jesus was on earth, He dealt with tax collectors and prostitutes without reckoning their sins to them. Healing and deliverance still flowed freely to them.
Sin doesn’t stop revival. It is precisely because of sin that a revival is needed.
It is the goodness of God that leads us to repentance.
You have to preach the love of God and Jesus’ finished work at the cross, and not only keep asking people to turn away from their sins.
God is already reconciled to you. It is you who needs to reconcile yourself to God.
You don’t clean yourself before you take a bath. Jesus is the bath. Come to Him and you’ll become clean.
God is not mad at you—He loves you. He sent His Son to die for you, so come back to Him. That is the Gospel!
It takes the Holy Spirit to preach Grace because Grace is not natural. The Law of Moses is natural.

“namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself, not reckoning to them their trespasses, and having committed to us the word of reconciliation. We are therefore ambassadors on behalf of Christ, as though God were entreating by us: we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:19-20‬ ‭WEB‬)

Hebrews 1:1-2 - The context of the epistle to the Hebrews is that it’s written to the Jews, not to the Gentiles.

“God, having in the past spoken to the fathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, has at the end of these days spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds.” (Hebrews‬ ‭1:1-2‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

For a believer, Hebrews 10 is nothing to fear. It is full of assurances of our blessedness in Christ!

Hebrews 10:26-29 - This passage has caused fear in believers who don’t understand it properly.
It is talking about unbelievers who have received the knowledge that Jesus is the only way to forgiveness of sins and eternal life, and yet choose not to receive Jesus as Lord.
If you have self-condemnation, it may lead to psychosomatic disorders and autoimmune sicknesses. You need to know that you have peace with God, and have the peace of God in your heart.
It’s not just about having the right behavior, but the right intentions behind the right behavior.
People who use this passage to say that you can lose your salvation always think that they are the only one who can’t lose their salvation.
To sin willfully is actually when an unbeliever rejects God’s Grace and Jesus, as if to say they can earn their own salvation through other ways.
Under the Law, the blood of bulls and goats offered on the Day of Atonement (Yom Kippur) could cover Israel’s sins for one year.
Yet some believers think that you can lose your salvation when you sin, as if Jesus’ blood cannot keep you saved even for one day. They have counted Jesus’ blood as common.

“For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries. A man who disregards Moses’ law dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment do you think he will be judged worthy of who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?” (Hebrews‬ ‭10:26-29‬ ‭WEB‬)

God swore to bless us because He wants us to have strong encouragement that He will surely bless and multiply us, for we are the seed of Abraham.

Numbers 23:19-21 - The prophet Balaam couldn’t curse the children of Israel for Balaak because God had blessed them.
God has blessed you and no one can reverse that or curse you!
We have sin in our flesh, but God does not reckon it to us.

“God is not a man, that he should lie, nor the son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not make it good? Behold, I have received a command to bless. He has blessed, and I can’t reverse it. He has not seen iniquity in Jacob. Neither has he seen perverseness in Israel. Yahweh his God is with him. The shout of a king is among them.” (Numbers‬ ‭23:19-21‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Numbers 35:9-15 - The act of manslaughter must be not previously planned-out. The cities of refuge were located in accessible places.

“Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘When you pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan, then you shall appoint for yourselves cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the man slayer who kills any person unwittingly may flee there. The cities shall be to you for refuge from the avenger, that the man slayer not die, until he stands before the congregation for judgment. The cities which you shall give shall be for you six cities of refuge. You shall give three cities beyond the Jordan, and you shall give three cities in the land of Canaan. They shall be cities of refuge. For the children of Israel, and for the stranger and for the foreigner living among them, shall these six cities be for refuge; that everyone who kills any person unwittingly may flee there.” (Numbers‬ ‭35:9-15‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Numbers 35:16,18 - The iron is a picture of the nails that were driven into Jesus’ hands and feet. The wood is a picture of the wooden cross that Jesus hung on.
Based on the passage below, those who crucified Jesus had to be put to death.

““‘But if he struck him with an instrument of iron, so that he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death...Or if he struck him with a weapon of wood in the hand, by which a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.” (Numbers‬ ‭35:16, 18‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Luke 23:34 - But Jesus put them under the category of unintentional murder, qualifying them to flee to the city of refuge.

“Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.” Dividing his garments among them, they cast lots.” (Luke‬ ‭23:34‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Numbers 18:12 - The priests live in the cities of refuge. The best of resources are available in the cities of refuge.
Yet, the man slayers get to live there and enjoy the same blessings.
We are enjoying undeserved favor because we are in the true city of refuge: Jesus Christ.

““I have given to you all the best of the oil, and all the best of the vintage, and of the grain, the first fruits of them which they give to Yahweh.” (Numbers‬ ‭18:12‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The unpardonable sin against the Holy Spirit is not able to be committed today: it is to have seen Jesus in person doing miraculous works and attributing those works to Satan and not God. It is sinning with open eyes.

Galatians 3:9-10 - The consequence of rejecting of God’s Grace as an unbeliever (Hebrew 10’s “sinning willfully”) is even worse than sinning under the Law.

“So then, those who are of faith are blessed with the faithful Abraham. For as many as are of the works of the law are under a curse. For it is written, “Cursed is everyone who doesn’t continue in all things that are written in the book of the law, to do them.”” (Galatians‬ ‭3:9-10‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 10:1-3 - Jesus is a far greater payment than our sin debt was.
The work of the cross is the love of God making payment to the holiness of God. God is glorified by what Jesus did at the cross.
The righteous demands of the Law have been fully met at the cross.
We have been thoroughly cleansed through Jesus’ one-time sacrifice so we should have no more consciousness of sins.
The opposite of no more consciousness of sins is to have reminder of sins.
Preachers need to stop preaching reminder of sins because it just causes people to sin more, and it is an insult to the Spirit of Grace.

“For the law, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near. Or else wouldn’t they have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins? But in those sacrifices there is a yearly reminder of sins.” (Hebrews‬ ‭10:1-3‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 10:9-12 - The three “W’s”: 1) The will of the Father—to remove the Law and replace it with the New Covenant of Grace. By that will, we have been sanctified through the sacrifice of Christ.
2) The work of the Son—we have forgiveness of sins through His one sacrifice for sins forever.

“then he has said, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He takes away the first, that he may establish the second, by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Every priest indeed stands day by day serving and often offering the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins, but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God;” (Hebrews‬ ‭10:9-12‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 10:15-17 - 3) The witness of the Holy Spirit—The Spirit saw the Father punishing all your sins in Jesus at the cross.
Those who come against Grace are coming against the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
God is only able to put His laws in our hearts and minds because He remembers our sins and inquiries no more.

“The Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying, “This is the covenant that I will make with them: ‘After those days,’ says the Lord, ‘I will put my laws on their heart, I will also write them on their mind;’” then he says, “I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more.” (Hebrews‬ ‭10:15-17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 10:18-20 - Now that you are fully assured that you have been perfectly cleansed from sin, draw near to God with full assurance of faith!
The Old Covenant of the Law depends on man’s obedience, whereas the New Covenant of Grace depends on God’s faithfulness and ability. God will surely bless you!
God is not dealing with us based on sins, but based on His Son.
Just as Jesus deserves every blessing, so do we because we are in Him!

“Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;” (Hebrews‬ ‭10:18-20‬ ‭WEB‬‬)
