5 July 2020 - God Has Sworn to Bless You - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes

Pastor Joseph Prince clarified the meaning of Hebrews 6:4-6 which is a common stumbling block for believers who don't believe in eternal security. In this message, you'll find strong encouragement that God will surely bless and multiply you, even in these troubled times!

After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to the disciples on a Sunday, and then on another Sunday.
It’s like He’s stamping His approval on “the Lord’s Day”, representing a new beginning.
The church gathers on the Lord’s Day, the first day of the week.

If Noah fell in the ark, he just fell inside, but never fell out of it. You cannot lose your salvation. You’re eternally safe in Christ.

The blood of bulls and goats could cover Israel’s sins for a year. Some people wrongly believe that when they sin, they lose their salvation. They are essentially saying that Jesus’ work at the cross is not enough as good as the blood of bulls and goats.

Romans 4:25-5:1 - If our sins were not forgiven, then Jesus couldn’t have been raised. Because Jesus is raised, we know that our sins have been completely forgiven!
We have peace with God. The word “have” is in the present, active tense. Actively receive that peace.

“who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification. Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,” (Romans‬ ‭4:25-5:1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Hebrews 1:3 - The cross is a once-for-all-time sacrifice. If you sin again, Jesus doesn’t have to come down and die for your sins again. The work of purifying you of your sins has already been completed.

“His Son is the radiance of his glory, the very image of his substance, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purified us of our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;” (Hebrews‬ ‭1:3‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Isaiah 54:14 - You will not fear if you’re established in the truth that you’re righteous in Christ.

“In righteousness you will be established. You will be far from oppression, for you will not be afraid; and far from terror, for it shall not come near you.” (Isaiah‬ ‭54:14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Isaiah 54:17 - Even if the devil forms new weapons against you, they won’t prosper against you.
Being established in righteousness is the only way to truly live a holy life and to enjoy wholeness in every area of your life.

“No weapon that is formed against you will prevail; and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of Yahweh’s servants, and their righteousness is of me,” says Yahweh.” (Isaiah‬ ‭54:17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 5:2 - We have permanent access to God’s Grace.
Right believing will produce right living.
Believing that you’re righteous by faith will produce the fruits of righteous living.
The New Covenant is all about how the righteous shall live by faith.

“through whom we also have our access by faith into this grace in which we stand. We rejoice in hope of the glory of God.” (Romans‬ ‭5:2‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Have blessed assurance of your salvation will not cause a believer to go and live a licentious lifestyle.
It will produce a sense of closeness with God that leads to righteous living.
A secure environment produces shalom peace inside that produces good quality of work outside.

Does Hebrews 6:4-6 mean that a believer can lose his salvation? No, it’s addressing unbelieving Jews who reject Jesus and go back to the Old Covenant system of temple sacrifices.

Hebrews 6:4-6 - Opponents of the eternal security of a believer always use this passage to support their argument that believers can lose their salvation.
This passage addresses people who profess but don’t possess eternal life. They say that they are Christians but actually they didn’t place their faith in Jesus.
To be “enlightened” doesn’t mean that you are saved. An unbeliever who has heard the Gospel and understands that it is the way to salvation is already enlightened.
Judas Iscariot is a person who was enlightened but never saved. Jesus called him the “son of perdition”.
The word “partakers” in Greek is “metachos” which means joint partner. Judas did miracles and healings through the Holy Spirit upon him, but he didn’t have the Holy Spirit inside him.
The prophet Balaam in the Old Testament had the Holy Spirit upon him, but not in him.
After His resurrection, Jesus breathed the Holy Spirit onto the disciples in the upper room. That’s when they were born-again.
The Jews that the author of Hebrews was addressing, turned their back on Jesus and went back to the Old Covenant system of temple sacrifices. They never placed their faith in Jesus for salvation.
This passage talks about a very unique situation whereby the temple was still standing at that time.
It’s not talking about your friends who don’t receive Christ immediately after coming to a service. Sometimes they may receive Jesus as Lord later on.

“For concerning those who were once enlightened and tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the age to come, and then fell away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance; seeing they crucify the Son of God for themselves again, and put him to open shame.” (Hebrews‬ ‭6:4-6‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 6:9 - This verse shows that Hebrews 6:4-6 is not talking about believers. Believers are addressed as “beloved”.

“But, beloved, we are persuaded of better things for you, and things that accompany salvation, even though we speak like this.” (Hebrews‬ ‭6:9‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 1:1-2 - Take note that the epistle to the Hebrews is written to the Jews.
Most believers are Gentiles, not Jews.

“God, having in the past spoken to the fathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, has at the end of these days spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, through whom also he made the worlds.” (Hebrews‬ ‭1:1-2‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The Law is for spiritual infants, whereas Grace is for matured sons.

Isaiah 32:17 - Be established in the truth that your righteousness in Christ endures forever.

“The work of righteousness will be peace; and the effect of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever.” (Isaiah‬ ‭32:17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 6:13-14, 18 - It is impossible for God to lie. He will surely bless you since He has promised to.
God humbled Himself because of our infirmities and swore by Himself to give us strong assurance.
Your job is not your source of supply—it is just a channel. God is your source of supply. If a channel shuts down, don’t worry. God has other channels prepared for you.
God empowered you for success in everything.
Abraham was never poor or in lack. Abraham was never punished by God. Abraham’s wife and children were all blessed.
Abraham lived until he was one hundred and seventy-five years old, and there’s no record that he was ever sick.
You are blessed with Abraham.
Don’t be afraid of the pandemic. Expect good things to happen. You have the blessing of Abraham.

“For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he could swear by no one greater, he swore by himself, saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.”...that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set before us.” (Hebrews‬ ‭6:13-14, 18‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Matthew 27:34 - To taste doesn’t mean drinking.
Unbelievers can taste God’s power, but if they don’t drink by placing their faith in Jesus as Lord, they aren’t saved.

“they gave him sour wine to drink mixed with gall. When he had tasted it, he would not drink.” (Matthew‬ ‭27:34‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Feelings don’t depart after you die. In the parable of “the rich man and Lazarus”, the rich man was tormented in the flames of Hell.

On the same day whereby the thief and Jesus both died, their spirits went to Paradise. Not on the third day after Jesus was raised from the dead, but on that same day.

Genesis 22:16-17 - This is when God swore by Himself.

“and said, “I have sworn by myself, says Yahweh, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son, that I will bless you greatly, and I will multiply your offspring greatly like the stars of the heavens, and like the sand which is on the seashore. Your offspring will possess the gate of his enemies.” (Genesis‬ ‭22:16-17‬ ‭WEB‬)

Genesis 26:1-3 - You may go through a famine as a child of God, but God promises to bless you even in the famine.

“There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, to Gerar. Yahweh appeared to him, and said, “Don’t go down into Egypt. Live in the land I will tell you about. Live in this land, and I will be with you, and will bless you. For I will give to you, and to your offspring, all these lands, and I will establish the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.” (Genesis‬ ‭26:1-3‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Genesis 26:12-14 - When God blesses you, the results are tangible. Isaac was blessed with great wealth.
Our blessings provoke the world to jealousy so that they will want to know our God.

“Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year one hundred times what he planted. Yahweh blessed him. The man grew great, and grew more and more until he became very great. He had possessions of flocks, possessions of herds, and a great household. The Philistines envied him.” (Genesis‬ ‭26:12-14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews‬ ‭6:17-18 - You are Abraham’s seed. God will surely multiply and bless you. Because God has sworn and He cannot lie, you can have strong encouragement.

“In this way God, being determined to show more abundantly to the heirs of the promise the immutability of his counsel, interposed with an oath; that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we may have a strong encouragement, who have fled for refuge to take hold of the hope set before us.” (Hebrews‬ ‭6:17-18‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

You have omitted the part that JP mentioned today’s christians after they passed on they went straight away to heaven to be with Jesus. There is no more paradise. It is vacated after Christ died. It debunked what you previously preached about christians died and will be temporarily housed in paradise instead of heaven.

Yes I omitted it because it’s unbiblical.

The apostle Paul clearly said that Paradise is up and not below.

“I know a man in Christ, fourteen years ago (whether in the body, I don’t know, or whether out of the body, I don’t know; God knows), such a one caught up into the third heaven. I know such a man (whether in the body, or outside of the body, I don’t know; God knows), how he was caught up into Paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭12:2-4‬ ‭WEB‬)

Pastor Prince believes that Paradise is below the earth, right above Hell, which is unbiblical.

Paradise is in the third heaven, above.
