1 September 2019 - What To Do In Your Valley Seasons - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes

As sons of God and not sons of Adam, we have a new nature. Our Adamic nature has been crucified at the cross and we are a new creature.
The world may suffer sickness and disease, but not us—by Jesus’ stripes we are healed.

When you receive a bad report, keep studying and listening to the word of God 24/7. If you have a disease, it attacks you all day long, so why don’t you listen to the Gospel all day long too?

When you first take Holy Communion, you may be filled with a sense of fear, but as you continue to partake, you will lose that fear and it will be replaced with a sense of joy.

There are people preaching that healing is not for today and that healing by Holy Communion is part of the health and wealth gospel.
Many people come against those who are living the true Christian life.

A cult is when its followers are focused on a person. A true church looks to Jesus and His finished work at the cross.

Zechariah 9:12 - God wants to restore double to you.
If you wasted years of your life, God can restore them to you.
There is an evil spirit called a spirit of heaviness/sadness that makes you feel depressed.
God’s love for you is everlasting—it’s not the end of the world.
We are now slaves of righteousness in Christ. Before we were saved, we were slaves of sin.
When we fall into sin, we cannot escape from being righteous in Christ.
We are prisoners of hope! Return to Jesus your stronghold.
We are prisoners of hope because of the blood of the covenant!
Even when bad things happen, you can continue to expect good because you are a beloved child of God.
Don’t be frustrated when there are unexpected delays—your life is in God’s hands. Don’t resist His loving hands.
God never takes good things away unless they are going to hurt you.
Once you get married, forget about finding the right person—focus on being the right person.
Once romance fizzles out in a marriage, what remains is love—choosing to be committed to your spouse despite any flaws and looking for the gold inside him/her.

“As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant, I have set free your prisoners from the pit in which is no water. Turn to the stronghold, you prisoners of hope! Even today I declare that I will restore double to you.” ‭‭(Zechariah‬ ‭9:11-12‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Because you are are redeemed by the precious blood that Jesus shed at the cross, you are a prisoner of hope! Now you can expect all things, even your troubles, to be turned around for your good. God is still with you in your valley seasons. He will open a door of hope for you and lead you through!

Place your hope in the redeeming blood of Jesus

1 Thessalonians 5:8-9 - Hope is a helmet. Having faith, hope and love causes one to live a successful Christian life.
Jesus rebuked the Ephesian church for doing labors for Him without faith, hope and love.
We have a rock-solid foundation to expect to have a good future, through Jesus’ finished work at the cross.

“But let us, since we belong to the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and, for a helmet, the hope of salvation. For God didn’t appoint us to wrath, but to the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,” ‭‭(1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:8-9‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Let’s look for good in each other, no matter how deeply buried that good is under the flesh.

Joshua 2:18 - Hope is tikvah in Hebrew which comes from the word kava which means to “wait” upon the Lord.
Tikvah is like binding a rope around something—holding on with hope.
The first occurrence of this word tikvah is in the story of Rahab on the walls of Jericho.
She has heard about how God dried up the Red Sea for the children of Israel.
Jewish tradition says that the moment the prince of Judah’s horse touched the Red Sea, the sea opened for Israel—God doesn’t move until you show faith.
Every time she looked towards the camp of the children of Israel, she felt hopeless about her future. She only saw death and destruction awaiting her.
One day, two spies from the children of Israel entered Jericho and visited Rahab.
Pastor Prince believes that that one of the two spies was Rahab’s future husband Salmon, the son of Nahshon (the prince of Judah).
The scarlet cord is a picture of the blood of Jesus.
The blood of Jesus is bound with hope. God wants you to put all your hope in the blood of Jesus.
After receiving the promise from the two spies, Rahab looked out the window and now saw hope for her future.
The same scenes that once brought fear and trepidation now brought hope and good expectation.
She looked at the scarlet cord, knowing she had a foundation of hope and that God’s people would not lie.

“Behold, when we come into the land, tie this line of scarlet thread in the window which you used to let us down. Gather to yourself into the house your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father’s household.” ‭‭(Joshua‬ ‭2:18‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The fruit of Egypt was leeks, garlic and onions which was grown on the ground. It is backbreaking work to grow and harvest them.
However the fruit of Canaan (the Promised Land) is pomegranates and figs which can be plucked easily from trees already grown.
You can easily receive spiritual food because you are in Christ.

Luke 22:44 - The word for agony is agonia in Greek which means a strong mental pressure and the physical exertion of doing gymnastics.
It is a picture of Jesus taking our burdens and dark thoughts upon Himself at night.
Jesus’ blood has a redeeming quality. When Jesus’ blood spilled on the ground, it redeemed the ground from the curse.
When His blood mingled with His sweat, it redeemed us from the curse of sweat (hard labor).
If you are a believer you are walking on victory ground, not cursed ground.
Jesus wore the crown of thorns to redeem our minds from evil thoughts.
The devil wants your mind.
The world is raising a generation of passive minds.
The word “amuse” is made up of two parts: “a” is a negation, whereas “muse” means to meditate. Amuse means to negate meditation.
When you have nothing to do, meditate on God’s word instead of seeking amusement that doesn’t profit your brain.

“Being in agony he prayed more earnestly. His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground.” ‭‭(Luke‬ ‭22:44‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Genesis 42:36 - If only Jacob knew that the prime minister of Egypt (Joseph) that wanted Benjamin was because he was planning good for Jacob and not evil.
In fact, the first thing that Joseph asked his brothers was “Is my father alive?”
The bad things that you see before you are for you, not against you.
You may not understand them, but God is working all things for your good.

“Jacob, their father, said to them, “You have bereaved me of my children! Joseph is no more, Simeon is no more, and you want to take Benjamin away. All these things are against me.”” ‭‭(Genesis‬ ‭42:36‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 8:28 - This is a promise for believers.
All things, not just the good things, are working together for good.
Your promotion is coming in due season when you have that inner fortitude to handle the new level of blessings.
A promotion before the right time can harm you instead of helping you.
Rahab married Salmon and became the ancestor of David (the first God-chosen king of Israel) and of Jesus the Messiah of the world. She would never have expected that.
If only you have eyes to see your glorious future from Heaven’s perspective.

“We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.” ‭‭(Romans‬ ‭8:28‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

God Is Still With You In Your Valley of Trouble

1 Kings 20:1-3 - Ben Hadad is a picture of the devil.
The devil comes to you with evil thoughts, making you think that he will take your health, family and possessions one by one.

“Ben Hadad the king of Syria gathered all his army together; and there were thirty-two kings with him, with horses and chariots. He went up and besieged Samaria, and fought against it. He sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel, into the city, and said to him, “Thus says Ben Hadad, ‘Your silver and your gold is mine. Your wives also and your children, even the best, are mine.’”” ‭‭(1 Kings‬ ‭20:1-3‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Kings 20:13-15 - The promise of restoration came through a prophet.
Instead of the devil taking everything from you, you’ll take everything from him.
The young generation of believers today will be be used mightily by God to bring victory to His kingdom.

“Behold, a prophet came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said, “Yahweh says, ‘Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand today; and you will know that I am Yahweh.’” Ahab said, “By whom?” He said, “Yahweh says, ‘By the young men of the princes of the provinces.’” Then he said, “Who shall begin the battle?” He answered, “You.” Then he mustered the young men of the princes of the provinces, and they were two hundred and thirty-two. After them, he mustered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.” ‭‭(1 Kings‬ ‭20:13-15‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Kings 20:19-20 - Just as Yahweh promised, Israel defeated the Syrians.

“So these went out of the city, the young men of the princes of the provinces, and the army which followed them. They each killed his man. The Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them. Ben Hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with horsemen.” ‭‭(1 Kings‬ ‭20:19-20‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Kings 20:22-23 - The city of Samaria was built on a mountain.
It’s true that God gives us mountaintop experiences.
The devil wants you to think that God is only with you in mountaintop experiences and not in valley seasons.

“The prophet came near to the king of Israel, and said to him, “Go, strengthen yourself, and mark, and see what you do; for at the return of the year the king of Syria will come up against you.” The servants of the king of Syria said to him, “Their god is a god of the hills; therefore they were stronger than we. But let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we will be stronger than they.” ‭‭(1 Kings‬ ‭20:22-23‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Kings 20:26-29 - God is there with you even in your valley seasons.

“At the return of the year, Ben Hadad mustered the Syrians, and went up to Aphek, to fight against Israel. The children of Israel were mustered and given provisions, and went against them. The children of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of young goats; but the Syrians filled the country. A man of God came near and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, “Yahweh says, ‘Because the Syrians have said, “Yahweh is a god of the hills, but he is not a god of the valleys”; therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am Yahweh.’” They encamped opposite each other for seven days. So it was, that in the seventh day the battle was joined; and the children of Israel killed one hundred thousand footmen of the Syrians in one day.” ‭‭(1 Kings‬ ‭20:26-29‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hosea 2:15 - Achor means “trouble”. Your door of hope is in your valley of trouble.
In every trouble, look for the door of hope—open it and step out.
David defeated Goliath in the valley of Elah.
Jesus came down from the Mount of Beatitudes and cleansed a leper.
Jesus came down and delivered the demon-possessed.

“I will give her vineyards from there, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope; and she will respond there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.” ‭‭(Hosea‬ ‭2:15‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

There are two times when God told Jesus that He was His beloved Son: on the mountain of transfiguration and at the river Jordan (one of the lowest places on earth).
God loves you in both your mountaintop and valley seasons.

Genesis 14:18 - God wants the Lord’s Supper restored to the church.
The early church broke bread (took communion) from house to house.
Melchizedek was the king of Salem. Salem was the old name for Jerusalem.
Jerusalem was built on Mount Moriah.
Melchizedek came down to Abraham in the King’s Valley, not the other way around.
Why is it called King’s Valley? Because Jesus stepped into the valley.
The valley today is called Kidron Valley. Kidron means darkness.
Melchizedek brought bread and wine to Abraham—a picture of Holy Communion.
In your dark valley seasons, partake of Holy Communion.
Near the Kidron Valley is the Garden of Gethsemane (Gethsamene means oil press).
There is the grain, wine and oil all nearby.
Jesus was crushed so that we could have the anointing.
The anointing breaks bondages and sets people free.
You will walk through the valley of the shadow of death.
God is there with you in the valley. Partake of Holy Communion in the presence of your enemies (whether it is sickness, financial lack, or something else).
The eventual result is that goodness and mercy shall hunt you down all the days of your life until you dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

“Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine: and he was priest of God Most High.” ‭‭(Genesis‬ ‭14:18‬ ‭WEB‬‬)
