20 March 2022 - Washed By The Love Of Christ - New Creation Church Sermon Notes - Pastor Lawrence Lim Sermon Notes

New Sermon Notes: Pastor Lawrence Lim preached about two significant incidents of washing feet in the New Testament. When we see God’s great love revealed, we can also extend love and forgiveness to the people in our lives!

Romans 8:37 - We will receive our breakthrough through Christ who loves us.

“No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” (Romans‬ ‭8:37‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Luke 7:36 - Jesus was gracious even to the Pharisee by accepting the invitation to dine at his house. He honored and loved Simon the Pharisee, despite all the faults and hypocrisies of the Pharisees.

“One of the Pharisees invited him to eat with him. He entered into the Pharisee’s house, and sat at the table.” (Luke‬ ‭7:36‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Luke 7:37-38 - The woman is believed to be a harlot. The flask of oil was very costly, about a year’s worth of wages.
The woman ignored all the condemning looks and stares of all the self-righteous people around. She only wanted to focus on the one who loved and forgave her of her sins.
The Jews considered the feet dirty because the feet come in contact with filth on the ground. The washing of feet was reserved as the lowest task for the lowliest servant.
The woman expressed such extravagant love because she had first received such extravagant love through Jesus Christ.

“Behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that he was reclining in the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster jar of ointment. Standing behind at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head, kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.” (Luke‬ ‭7:37-38‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Mark 1:7 - John the Baptist spoke so highly of the Lord Jesus.

“He preached, saying, “After me comes he who is mightier than I, the thong of whose sandals I am not worthy to stoop down and loosen.” (Mark‬ ‭1:7‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Luke 7:39-50 - Simon did not honored Jesus as a guest but the woman honored Jesus exceedingly.
The Jews knew that only God can forgive sins.
Jesus was implying that He is the God who forgives sins.

“Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, “This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what kind of woman this is who touches him, that she is a sinner.” Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” He said, “Teacher, say on.” “A certain lender had two debtors. The one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. When they couldn’t pay, he forgave them both. Which of them therefore will love him most?” Simon answered, “He, I suppose, to whom he forgave the most.” He said to him, “You have judged correctly.” Turning to the woman, he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered into your house, and you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head. You gave me no kiss, but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss my feet. You didn’t anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment. Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.” He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” Those who sat at the table with him began to say to themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”” (Luke‬ ‭7:39-50‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The power to love and forgive others is found in seeing God’s love and forgiveness towards you

John 3:16-17 - God the Father sent Jesus to save the world, not to condemn sinners.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.” (John‬ ‭3:16-17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Psalm 103:8-13 - It is God’s heart to forgive mankind.

“Yahweh is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness. He will not always accuse; neither will he stay angry forever. He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor repaid us for our iniquities. For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his loving kindness toward those who fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Like a father has compassion on his children, so Yahweh has compassion on those who fear him.” (Psalms‬ ‭103:8-13‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Micah 7:18-19 - God delights in loving kindness. He is a compassionate God who forgives our sins.

“Who is a God like you, who pardons iniquity, and passes over the disobedience of the remnant of his heritage? He doesn’t retain his anger forever, because he delights in loving kindness. He will again have compassion on us. He will tread our iniquities under foot; and you will cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.” (Micah‬ ‭7:18-19‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 13:10 - Love is the fulfillment of the Law.

“Love doesn’t harm a neighbor. Love therefore is the fulfillment of the law.” (Romans‬ ‭13:10‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Matthew 22:37, 39-40 - To love is to fulfill God’s Law and be holy. To forgive others is not about you trying your best to do it, but to focus on how much God has forgiven you.

“Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’…A second likewise is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments.”” (Matthew‬ ‭22:37, 39-40‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 John 3:1 - See how great Abba God’s love is, such that we have become His children.

“See how great a love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God! For this cause the world doesn’t know us, because it didn’t know him.” (1 John‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 John 4:10 - The focus is not about our love for God but about God’s love for us.

“In this is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son as the atoning sacrifice for our sins.” (1 John‬ ‭4:10‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Ephesians 4:32 - We are still holding on to grievances because we have forgotten that God has forgiven us. Let all grudges go and move on from the hurts of the past. The love of God is your strength to forgive anyone.

“And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.” (Ephesians‬ ‭4:32‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

John 13:1 - Jesus’ love for you will never change.

“Now before the feast of the Passover, Jesus, knowing that his time had come that he would depart from this world to the Father, having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.” (John‬ ‭13:1‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

John 13:2 - Judas Iscariot’s betrayal had already been prophesied earlier on in John 6.

“During supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him,” (John‬ ‭13:2‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

John 6:70-71 - Pastor Lawrence believes that at this point, Jesus already knew that it would be Judas who would betray Him.

“Jesus answered them, “Didn’t I choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?” Now he spoke of Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, for it was he who would betray him, being one of the twelve.” (John‬ ‭6:70-71‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

John 13:3-5 - Jesus girdled Himself with a towel like a servant. He washed all the twelve disciples’ feet, including Judas.

“Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he came from God, and was going to God, arose from supper, and laid aside his outer garments. He took a towel, and wrapped a towel around his waist. Then he poured water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him.” (John‬ ‭13:3-5‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

John 13:6-11 - Peter objected violently because He felt unworthy of Jesus’ gracious act.
There is a greater meaning to the washing of feet.
Jesus knew that Judas would betray Him and yet He still washed his feet.
Washing of feet represents washing us of the defiling filth of the world in our daily walk.

“Then he came to Simon Peter. He said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” Jesus answered him, “You don’t know what I am doing now, but you will understand later.” Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I don’t wash you, you have no part with me.” Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!” Jesus said to him, “Someone who has bathed only needs to have his feet washed, but is completely clean. You are clean, but not all of you.” For he knew him who would betray him, therefore he said, “You are not all clean.”” (John‬ ‭13:6-11‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Ephesians 5:25-27 - The Lord washes us with the water of God’s word. Every time you listen to the preaching of the Gospel, it will cleanse you and also have a positive physical effect on your body.

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it; that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word, that he might present the assembly to himself gloriously, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without defect.” (Ephesians‬ ‭5:25-27‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

John 13:12-18 - Jesus loved Judas, even though He knew that he would betray Him.

“So when he had washed their feet, put his outer garment back on, and sat down again, he said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you? You call me, ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord.’ You say so correctly, for so I am. If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you. Most certainly I tell you, a servant is not greater than his Lord, neither one who is sent greater than he who sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them. I don’t speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen. But that the Scripture may be fulfilled, ‘He who eats bread with me has lifted up his heel against me.’” (John‬ ‭13:12-18‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Psalm 55:12-14 - This is a Messianic psalm that speaks of the anguish of someone being betrayed by a close friend.

“For it was not an enemy who insulted me, then I could have endured it. Neither was it he who hated me who raised himself up against me, then I would have hidden myself from him. But it was you, a man like me, my companion, and my familiar friend. We took sweet fellowship together. We walked in God’s house with company.” (Psalms‬ ‭55:12-14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Matthew 26:24 - This was a warning for Judas, even though He already knew Judas’ heart. Do not love money, just love the Lord. He will take care of you.

“The Son of Man goes, even as it is written of him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for that man if he had not been born.”” (Matthew‬ ‭26:24‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

There is no sin that Jesus cannot forgive. He loves you right now.

Psalm 130:3-4 - We have all been forgiven through the precious blood of Christ. We can walk with dignity today not because of what we did, but because we have Christ in us. We have been called out of darkness and into God’s marvelous light.

“If you, Yah, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with you, therefore you are feared.” (Psalms‬ ‭130:3-4‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

You are not the sinner you once were. You are now the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

These sermon notes are independently-compiled by me, and I'm just a loyal and regular attendee of the the church's Sunday services, and I feel led to take detailed personal sermon notes of Pastor Prince's anointed messages to share them with the world, which desperately needs the true word of God and the original gospel of grace.

I feel blessed to be able to attend Pastor Joseph Prince's services in person, and would like to help everyone who isn't able to attend in person, to get hold of the messages as soon as it is preached!
