6 December 2020 - How to Walk by the Spirit - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes

Pastor Joseph Prince taught us how to walk by the Spirit to overcome every sinful habit, to profit in all things and even operate powerfully in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:4 - When you try to be justified by the works of the Law, you fall from Grace.

“You are alienated from Christ, you who desire to be justified by the law. You have fallen away from grace.” (Galatians‬ ‭5:4‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Galatians 5:16-18 - We are not under the Law, so that we can now be under Christ.
Not being under the Law doesn’t make you lawless. It means you are led by the Holy Spirit.
The glory of God can shine out of you and show the reality of Christ to the people around you.
Just walk by the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
The more you focus on not fulfilling the lusts of the flesh, you are putting yourself under the Law and you will be powerless to break free from sinful habits.
Walk by the Spirit—be led by Him, and your sinful addictions will be broken.
When the Spirit leads you, He deals with the root of your problem and not just the branches.
The way of man is to attack the problem head on by using willpower, but the Holy Spirit leads you in a circuitous way to solve that problem permanently.
God does not drive His flock—He leads His flock. Anything that pushes or drives you is not God.
Be careful when you get into things like the stock market. You must be restful, and not become a slave to the stock market.
Pastors and parents should also lead the one they are stewarding and not drive them.

“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, that you may not do the things that you desire. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” (Galatians‬ ‭5:16-18‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Psalm 23:3 - The word “paths” in Hebrew is “magal” which means “a circuitous path”.
We are following the Holy Spirit one step at a time.
The shepherd leads the sheep in circuitous paths and the flock eats the shoots and grass that are along the way.

“He restores my soul. He guides me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.” (Psalms‬ ‭23:3‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

In the side chamber of the temple of Solomon, there is a winding staircase that links the three levels of the chamber. A winding staircase is the fastest way to reach maximum height.
As we go about our lives this year, we are actually ascending higher, making progress.

Jesus said, “Take My yoke upon you.” A stronger, more mature cow is usually yoked to an inexperienced, younger cow.
The younger cow must follow the older cow, if not he will be dragged when the older cow turns, and get a stiff neck.
Jesus’ yoke is gentle. He will not hurt you. He leads you patiently and gently.

John 10:27 - We who are believers certainly hear Jesus’ voice. You don’t have to learn how to hear His voice because that would be an abnormality.

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” (John‬ ‭10:27‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

As you walk in life, follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit

Exodus 13:17 - When the children of Israel came out of Egypt, God saw them as infants.
When Jesus came, He gave us sonship.
Learn to lead your children in a circuitous way and don’t give them extreme ways that crush their spirit (Proverbs 22:6).
Your children are not ready to “see war”. There are things that are not age appropriate for them.
Don’t assume that they know how to discern things themselves. They don’t.

“When Pharaoh had let the people go, God didn’t lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and they return to Egypt”;” (Exodus‬ ‭13:17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 8:14-16 - Infants (in Greek: nepios) need the Law, whereas sons (in Greek: huios) are led by the Spirit. In Christ, we are mature sons.
The way God leads you is not harsh like a taskmaster.
The “fear of the Lord” is defined as “the wholesome dread of displeasing God”. Not a slavish fear of being punished by Him.
The Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God. Without voice or words, we just know that we are saved.
He also bears witness for all other things in life. There is nothing too trivial for Him.
How do we grow in the Spirit? By obeying the promptings of the Spirit, no matter how small it is.
The more you follow these promptings, the stronger they will get because you are growing in it.

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God. For you didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God;” (Romans‬ ‭8:14-16‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Exodus 16:31 - God’s word has a sweet taste. You will lose the taste for it if you keep feeding on other things of the world that are not real nourishment.

“The house of Israel called its name Manna, and it was like coriander seed, white; and its taste was like wafers with honey.” (Exodus‬ ‭16:31‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Numbers 11:5 - You can’t expect the supernatural when you’re feeding on natural things of the world.
You also can’t expect the natural when you’re feeding on the supernatural word of God.

“We remember the fish, which we ate in Egypt for nothing; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic;” (Numbers‬ ‭11:5‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 4:11 - Rest is not inactivity—it is Spirit-directed activity. The opposite of being in God’s rest is being in unbelief.

“Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, lest anyone fall after the same example of disobedience.” (Hebrews‬ ‭4:11‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 John 2:20, 27 - Every believer has the anointing of God in you (the indwelling Holy Spirit).
You abide in Christ by obeying the anointing in you.
The will of God is like a jacket. You have to try it and see if it fits you or not. You can’t just sit around doing nothing and expect to be led by the Spirit.
God does not lead a ‘parked car’. As you move, the Holy Spirit (your internal GPS) will guide you in the direction you should go.

“You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge...As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.” (1 John‬ ‭2:20, 27‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Genesis 12:1 - As you take a step in obedience, God will show you more.

“Now Yahweh said to Abram, “Leave your country, and your relatives, and your father’s house, and go to the land that I will show you.” (Genesis‬ ‭12:1‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Samuel 16:7 - The Lord led prophet Samuel to go to Jesse’s house.
God allowed all the sons to pass by Samuel before revealing that David was the one who God wanted to anoint as king.
Samuel guessed wrongly and thought the handsome and strong firstborn son must be the one, but his guess was wrong.
Even a great prophet like Samuel had to follow the procedure of being led step by step.

“But Yahweh said to Samuel, “Don’t look on his face, or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for I don’t see as man sees. For man looks at the outward appearance, but Yahweh looks at the heart.”” (1 Samuel‬ ‭16:7‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Corinthians 14:1 - Follow after love and your will operate in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
As you follow that stream of love for others, the gifts will manifest.

“Follow after love, and earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.” (1 Corinthians‬ ‭14:1‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Isaiah 48:17 - It is worth it to follow the Lord. You will profit.

“Yahweh, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel says: “I am Yahweh your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you by the way that you should go.” (Isaiah‬ ‭48:17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Joshua 14:8, 11 - Caleb could remain young and strong supernaturally because he followed the Lord.

“Nevertheless, my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I wholly followed Yahweh my God...As yet I am as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me. As my strength was then, even so is my strength now for war, to go out and to come in.” (Joshua‬ ‭14:8, 11‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Genesis 17:1 - Abraham could walk before Jesus just like Adam and Eve who walked with the Lord in the Garden of Eden in the cool of the day.

“When Abram was ninety-nine years old, Yahweh appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty. Walk before me, and be blameless.” (Genesis‬ ‭17:1‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 11:5 - We will be translated like Enoch was when the Rapture happens. Our vile mortal bodies will be transformed into glorious incorruptible bodies.

“By faith, Enoch was taken away, so that he wouldn’t see death, and he was not found, because God translated him. For he has had testimony given to him that before his translation he had been well pleasing to God.” (Hebrews‬ ‭11:5‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 10:1-2 - We would not have consciousness of sins if we believe that we are perfectly forgiven through Jesus’ finished work at the cross.

“For the law, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near. Or else wouldn’t they have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins?” (Hebrews‬ ‭10:1-2‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 10:14-18 - God promised to remember our sins no more because of Jesus’ perfect one-time offering of Himself at the cross.

“For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. The Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying, “This is the covenant that I will make with them: ‘After those days,’ says the Lord, ‘I will put my laws on their heart, I will also write them on their mind;’” then he says, “I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more.” Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.” (Hebrews‬ ‭10:14-18‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 9:1-2 - When the Holy Spirit convicts you about sin, it is in a positive way. The Holy Spirit testified within Paul that he was not lying.

“I tell the truth in Christ. I am not lying, my conscience testifying with me in the Holy Spirit, that I have great sorrow and unceasing pain in my heart.” (Romans‬ ‭9:1-2‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Hebrews 8:10-12 - First clause of the New Covenant of Grace: I will put My laws into their mind and write them on their heart. God leads us from within.
Second clause: I will be their God and they will be My people.
When He is your God, you will experience supernatural results in your life.
Final clause: I will be merciful to their unrighteousness and I will remember their sins and lawless deeds no more.
God is not dealing with us based on sin, but based on His Son.

““For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel. After those days,” says the Lord; “I will put my laws into their mind, I will also write them on their heart. I will be their God, and they will be my people. They will not teach every man his fellow citizen, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all will know me, from their least to their greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness. I will remember their sins and lawless deeds no more.”” (Hebrews‬ ‭8:10-12‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Watch what you watch before you sleep. Fill yourself with the word of God before you sleep. This is how to have a good quality of sleep and be freed from sleeplessness.

I think walking by the spirit shows especially in our whole behavior and mindset. It means to stop sinning and to walk holy just as Jesus. He has freed us from sin so that we may be truly free. What a beautiful gift. We only have to accept it.

Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. (1 John 3:6)
