11 October 2020 - What is the Gospel that the Apostle Paul Preached? - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes - New Creation Church Sermon Notes

Pastor Joseph Prince taught about the true Gospel of Grace which the apostle Paul preached, examining a sermon that the apostle preached in Antioch of Pisidia. The Gospel is an unqualified, unconditional offer given to mankind whereby they can receive forgiveness of sins simply by placing their faith in Jesus Christ.

God loves you and has a miracle prepared for you. We are to live supernatural lives. Our God is a God of miracles. Our provision, health and healing are supposed to be miraculous.

Exercise can make you fit, but health is from the Lord.

Isaiah 54:14 - God’s people need to be established in the gift of righteousness.

“In righteousness you will be established. You will be far from oppression, for you will not be afraid; and far from terror, for it shall not come near you.” (Isaiah‬ ‭54:14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

When the priests bearing the Ark of the Covenant stepped into the Jordan River, the water rolled back all the way to the city called Adam. This is a picture of Jesus bearing all our sins and punishment upon Himself at the cross.

Romans 1:16-17 - The Gospel is not just for salvation from Hell. We need the Gospel of Grace in everything we do. Jesus is Grace.
The word “salvation” in the passage is “soteria” in Greek. It is an all-encompassing salvation, from all troubles in your life.
The Gospel is not from works to works, but from faith to faith.
When we believe the Gospel, we will produce the fruits of righteous living.

“For I am not ashamed of the Good News of Christ, for it is the power of God for salvation for everyone who believes; for the Jew first, and also for the Greek. For in it is revealed God’s righteousness from faith to faith. As it is written, “But the righteous shall live by faith.”” (Romans‬ ‭1:16-17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 7:15-25 - When you try to keep the Law, you become very self-conscious, and it is a painful, depressive way to live.
The way to joy is to be delivered from self and to be Christ-conscious.

“For I don’t know what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do. But if what I don’t desire, that I do, I consent to the law that it is good. So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me. For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don’t find it doing that which is good. For the good which I desire, I don’t do; but the evil which I don’t desire, that I practice. But if what I don’t desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me. I find then the law, that, to me, while I desire to do good, evil is present. For I delight in God’s law after the inward man, but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out of the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God’s law, but with the flesh, the sin’s law.” (Romans‬ ‭7:15-25‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

The Holy Spirit’s teaching always points you to Jesus, not to yourself.

Paul preached an unqualified, unconditional Gospel for people to freely receive forgiveness of sins. The Gospel of Grace is from faith to faith.

Romans 2:16 - God will judge men based on whether they believed the Gospel or not. He will then judge unbelievers based on their works, before sentencing them to eternal torment in the lake of fire.

“in the day when God will judge the secrets of men, according to my Good News, by Jesus Christ.” (Romans‬ ‭2:16‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

John 3:36 - Whoever does not believe in Jesus will eventually face God’s wrath.

“One who believes in the Son has eternal life, but one who disobeys the Son won’t see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”” (John‬ ‭3:36‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 16:25 - The Gospel was a direct revelation from the ascended Jesus to Paul. Paul did not receive it from another man.
The Gospel is from Jesus, but given through Paul.

“Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began” (Romans‬ ‭16:25‬ ‭NKJV‬‬)

Acts 9:3-5 - Paul literally fell off his high horse.
Instead of killing Paul, Jesus shone the light of His grace upon him.
Jesus sent a man, Ananias, to open Paul’s blind eyes. Ananias means “the grace of Yahweh”.
The first thing Paul saw when his sight returned was the grace of Yahweh.

“As he traveled, he got close to Damascus, and suddenly a light from the sky shone around him. He fell on the earth, and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” He said, “Who are you, Lord?” The Lord said, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.” (Acts‬ ‭9:3-5‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

It takes grace to understand that you can receive good that you don’t deserve because of Jesus’ finished work at the cross.

Acts 13:14-16 - We have a few of Paul’s sermons that are documented word-for-word in the New Testament.
We have the sermon that Paul preached in the synagogue to the Jews in Antioch of Pisidia.

“But they, passing on from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia. They went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and sat down. After the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, speak.” Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, “Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen.” (Acts‬ ‭13:14-16‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Acts 13:38-39 - Paul preached an unqualified, unconditional Gospel. It’s not about behavior modification, but just believing in Jesus Christ.
Paul knew that God is not looking at man anymore, but at His Son. The focus is on Jesus.
God is offering forgiveness of sins as a free gift through Jesus Christ.
We cannot save ourselves from judgment. We can only receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior to be saved.
The Gospel is all about justification by faith.
When you believe the Gospel, God declares you righteous.

“Be it known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man is proclaimed to you remission of sins, and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.” (Acts‬ ‭13:38-39‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

“‘Let it therefore be known to you, men, brethren, that through this one to you is the forgiveness of sins declared, and from all things from which ye were not able in the law of Moses to be declared righteous, in this one every one who is believing is declared righteous;” (Acts‬ ‭13:38-39‬ ‭YLT98‬‬)

Acts 13:39-45 - Paul quoted the prophet Habakkuk against those who despised the unqualified, unconditional offer of salvation in Christ.
Many of the Jews who heard Paul’s preaching did not believe it, but the Gentiles wanted to hear it again.
When you preach the Gospel of Grace, you will draw the multitudes and experience church growth.

“and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses. Beware therefore, lest that come on you which is spoken in the prophets: ‘Behold, you scoffers, and wonder, and perish; for I work a work in your days, a work which you will in no way believe, if one declares it to you.’” So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath. Now when the synagogue broke up, many of the Jews and of the devout proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas; who, speaking to them, urged them to continue in the grace of God. The next Sabbath almost the whole city was gathered together to hear the word of God. But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with jealousy, and contradicted the things which were spoken by Paul, and blasphemed.” (Acts‬ ‭13:39-45‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Matthew 8:10 - Both the Roman centurion and the Syrophoenician woman were declared to have great faith.
It is because they were both Gentiles who were not Law-conscious.
They were not conscious of their sinfulness so they boldly believed Jesus.

“When Jesus heard it, he marveled, and said to those who followed, “Most certainly I tell you, I haven’t found so great a faith, not even in Israel.” (Matthew‬ ‭8:10‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Romans 4:14 - The Law voids faith. The Gospel is not from faith to works. It is from faith to faith.
When you believe the Gospel, it will result in good works, not dead works.

“For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void, and the promise is made of no effect.” (Romans‬ ‭4:14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

When God does something in the world, it is either for the church, for Israel, or for the furtherance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

World War One was for the positioning of the land of Israel.
Number 50 years from 1917 and you have 1967 which is the Six Day War, an unprecedented victory for Israel in 1 day.
World War Two was about the Jews returning to the land of Israel.

In the current COVID-19 pandemic, Pastor Prince believes that God is using the situation to further the Gospel of Jesus Christ like never before. The Gospel is being preached online.

If we are flowing with God, the provision will be there. There will be supply.

John 6:63, Romans 7:17 - Any attempts to keep the Law is a negation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is as good as saying, “God, you don’t know what you are saying. I can become righteous through keeping the Law.”

“It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.” (John‬ ‭6:63‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

“So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.” (Romans‬ ‭7:17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Galatians 1:6-9 - God places a double curse upon anyone who preaches a false gospel. God does that because He loves people and doesn’t want them to hear a false gospel.
When you are under a curse, it’s like you’re drying up. There are no results to your endeavors.
This is a New Testament judgment against those who preach false gospels.
On the other hand, if you preach the true Gospel of Grace, you will be doubly blessed.

“I marvel that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ to a different “good news”; and there isn’t another “good news.” Only there are some who trouble you, and want to pervert the Good News of Christ. But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you any “good news” other than that which we preached to you, let him be cursed. As we have said before, so I now say again: if any man preaches to you any “good news” other than that which you received, let him be cursed.” (Galatians‬ ‭1:6-9‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Acts 13:11 - This is a New Testament judgment. God will oppose those who deliberate oppose and try to hinder the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

“Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for a season!” Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.” (Acts‬ ‭13:11‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Matthew 11:20-23 - Back then, Tyre and Sidon were like the modern-day Las Vegas. They were cities of sin.
The judgment for rejection of Grace is far worse than the judgment for just sinning in other ways.
Jesus did many mighty miracles in Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum, but they rejected Him.
Jesus was saying that the sin of rejecting Him is worse than the sins that were done in Sodom.
Preach the Gospel and pray for mighty signs and wonders to confirm the Gospel. This is how sinners will repent and be saved.

“Then he began to denounce the cities in which most of his mighty works had been done, because they didn’t repent. “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon which were done in you, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. You, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, you will go down to Hades. For if the mighty works had been done in Sodom which were done in you, it would have remained until today.” (Matthew‬ ‭11:20-23‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Acts 20:20-23 - Paul was speaking to the elders of Ephesian church. Many scholars consider the church of Ephesus a very spiritual local church.
Repentance towards God is changing your mind about God.

“how I didn’t shrink from declaring to you anything that was profitable, teaching you publicly and from house to house, testifying both to Jews and to Greeks repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus. Now, behold, I go bound by the Spirit to Jerusalem, not knowing what will happen to me there; except that the Holy Spirit testifies in every city, saying that bonds and afflictions wait for me.” (Acts‬ ‭20:20-23‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Acts 20:24-27 - To preach the Gospel of Grace is to establish God’s kingdom in the hearts of the people.
The whole counsel of God does not mean asking people to keep the Law after being saved by Grace through faith.
To preach the whole counsel of God means to bring Christ out of the shadows and types in the Old Testament, as well as teach the New Testament.

“But these things don’t count; nor do I hold my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to fully testify to the Good News of the grace of God. “Now, behold, I know that you all, among whom I went about preaching God’s Kingdom, will see my face no more. Therefore I testify to you today that I am clean from the blood of all men, for I didn’t shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God.” (Acts‬ ‭20:24-27‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Acts 20:27-32 - Overseers (like pastors and leaders) are called to shepherd their flock of people.
Perverse things means anything other than the Gospel of Grace.
People need to hear the Gospel to be built up before they can receive their inheritance in Christ.

“for I didn’t shrink from declaring to you the whole counsel of God. Take heed, therefore, to yourselves, and to all the flock, in which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the assembly of the Lord and God which he purchased with his own blood. For I know that after my departure, vicious wolves will enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Men will arise from among your own selves, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after them. Therefore watch, remembering that for a period of three years I didn’t cease to admonish everyone night and day with tears. Now, brothers, I entrust you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build up, and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified.” (Acts‬ ‭20:27-32‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Isaiah 54:13-17 - When you’re established in the gift of righteousness, no weapon formed against you shall prosper. Your children will enjoy the shalom peace of God.

“All your children will be taught by Yahweh; and your children’s peace will be great. In righteousness you will be established. You will be far from oppression, for you will not be afraid; and far from terror, for it shall not come near you. Behold, they may gather together, but not by me. Whoever gathers together against you will fall because of you. “Behold, I have created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame, and forges a weapon for his work; and I have created the destroyer to destroy. No weapon that is formed against you will prevail; and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of Yahweh’s servants, and their righteousness is of me,” says Yahweh.” (Isaiah‬ ‭54:13-17‬ ‭WEB‬‬)
