New Sermon Notes: Pastor Joseph Prince shared powerful truths for pastors, leaders, and whoever wants to grow as a leader. Understand the DNA of a church organization that is built according to principles of the New Covenant of Grace!

The entrance of God’s word gives light. When we sit at Jesus’ feet to receive His word, our lives will never be the same.

When you first hear about Grace, your mind may not understand it, but your spirit will recognize the Gospel.

This session is about understanding the DNA of New Creation Church and the way this local church is run.

There is private correction even in a Grace church. The correction is for leaders in the church who are holding positions of influence if they have lifestyle sins. The members of the congregation are not to be disciplined like that, but to be fed with God’s word.

God primarily corrects through His word, but if a Christian is not in the word, God will correct through circumstances. He does not correct with car accidents, sickness, or tragedies. However, He may allow one to become frustrated, so that they will want to pray and go back to receiving God’s word.

The main purpose of the pulpit is to feed the Lord’s sheep. Not to beat the sheep by condemning them.

People in the audience want to be fed. No subject is better than the Lord Jesus Himself. He is the bread of life.

On the road to Emmaus, the two disciples treated Jesus as the means to an end. Their focus was the restoration of Israel. The Lord corrected them by expounding to the two disciples the things concerning Himself.

Jesus hid their eyes from recognizing Him in person because it was more important for them to see Him in the Scriptures than in person. This gives equal opportunity to all to see Jesus—in the word. It was a Sunday when this happened.

Jesus also broke bread with the two disciples on that Sunday. That is why we have the preaching of the Word and the Lord’s Supper together on Sundays.

In the Book of Acts, the early church came together to break bread on a Sunday (the Lord’s day) and to hear the apostle Paul preach the Gospel.

On the Day of Pentecost, many translations say that the Holy Spirit “fell” upon the disciples. However, it should be translated as “embraced”. At which point of Peter’s sermon did that happen? When he talked about the forgiveness of sins in Jesus’ name. This is the main point of the Gospel.

When Eutychus (his name means “good fortune”) fell down from the widow and appeared to be dead, the apostle Paul did not end the service there. He continued to partake of the Holy Communion with everyone. Think about the priority there.

Pastors and leaders are instructed to drink from Jesus and feed their flocks with what they receive from the Lord

Jesus raised Jairus’ daughter. He threw a talit (prayer shawl) over her and said “Talitha kumi” to her. Jesus came to raise Israel (whom the girl represents) from the dead. He will throw His talit over this generation and raise it from the dead.

Before He went to raise Jairus’ daughter, He encountered the woman with the issue of blood. She was bleeding profusely and no one could help her.

Jesus had a blue tassel (techelet) on the hem of His garment. At the cross, He would have cried out in Aramaic, “Kula” which is “finished”. When the woman with the issue of blood touched the blue tassel, she touched the finished work of Jesus Christ at the cross.

Why did Jesus turn around to make sure that the woman saw His face? In the Old Testament, Moses could only see God’s back parts. However, under Grace, the woman could see Jesus’ face that was brimming with love for her. He said “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go into peace (shalom).” It was easy for the woman to go into peace after seeing Jesus’ face. She knew that God wanted her to be healed.

After Jairus’ daughter was raised, Jesus instructed the people of the house to give the girl something to eat. The church needs to be a feeding centre, to feed the congregation with God’s word.

Jesus said “Come to Me and drink.” Pastors and leaders need to drink from Him and not just draw water for others. Drinking is for yourself, while drawing is for others. Jesus said that if you drink from Him, out of our bellies will flow rivers of living water (that outward flow is for others).

Jesus rose spiritually speaking on the eighth day. He rose from the dead on a Sunday. The Jews rest on the last day of the week, Saturday (Sabbath) after working. For believers, we start with rest on the Lord’s day (first day of the week) before working.

Thomas did not attend the gathering of the disciples on the first Sunday and he became an unbelieving believer. On the next Sunday, he met Jesus and he said, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus would have rebuked him if it was not a true statement.

John knew that he was loved by Jesus. In John 21, John was following Jesus without even being asked to follow. Those who know they are loved will follow the Lord.

The incident of Jesus correcting Peter is veiled from us. We are only able to read about Peter’s restoration to ministry in John 21.

When Peter first encountered Jesus’ miracle with the huge catch of fishes, Peter was conscious of the Lord’s holiness, causing him to say, “Depart from me for I am a sinful man.” Three and a half years later, Peter recognized Jesus through a similar miracle and instead of running from Him, he jumped into the sea and swam towards Jesus. Now Peter was conscious of His love.

Grace is maturity. The Law was given to Israel when they were infants. But Grace has come and it is for full-grown sons.

In John 21, when Peter saw Jesus, he was empowered to drag the net full of one hundred and fifty three big fishes. Seeing Jesus has an effect on your body.

Peter used to boast in his love (agape—unconditional love) for Jesus. In John 21, Jesus asked him “Peter, do you love Me more than all this?” Now, Peter only said he liked Jesus at a friendly level (phileo). He had been humbled.

Jesus is like fine flour—there is nothing course or rough about Him. When He is kind, He is not servile. When He is stern, He is not abusive.

When Peter said, “Lord, far be it from You.” Before replying him, Jesus turned to look at the other disciples as if to say, “If I do not go to the cross, then what will happen to all these?” Every action He does is so beautiful.

Pray for a greater capacity to grasp more revelation of Jesus Christ.

Under the Law, the meal offering goes up as a sweet-smelling fragrance to God. Only the Father can recognize the full beauty of Jesus.

A shepherd’s job is to oversee the sheep’s condition and their direction.

Shepherds (pastors), do not do your work for filthy lucre or because of constraints. Do your honorable work willingly and you will have a reward.

Acts 3:14 - Jesus allowed the same one who denied Him three times to preach the Gospel to multitudes, resulting in three thousand souls saved on the Day of Pentecost.
Peter dared to proclaim this statement without being too self-condemned to say it.
We need to be so full of Grace that our past does not affect us anymore.

“But you denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted to you,” (Acts‬ ‭3:14‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

When the first king of Israel was anointed as king, he was anointed with a vial of oil. In the Book of Revelation, vials are a picture of God’s wrath. People followed Saul with fear and trembling. On the other hand, David was anointed with a ram’s horn filled with oil (a picture of the finished work of Jesus Christ).

Jesse sent David out for the welfare of his brothers. It is like how Jacob sent Joseph to his brothers. These are pictures of how the Father sent Jesus for our welfare.

David killed Goliath with a stone because the penalty for blasphemy under the Law is death by stoning.

David decapitated Goliath and brought his head to a place outside Jerusalem and buried it.
Over time, the name of the place became corrupted from “Gol Goliata” to “Golgotha”. At this place, Jesus conquered a greater Goliath—the devil himself.
Like how David cut off Goliath’s head with Goliath’s sword, through death, Jesus conquered death and removed the power of death from Satan.

1 Samuel 17:28 - Eliab had an attitude that the sheep were insignificant by calling them “those few sheep”.

“Eliab his oldest brother heard when he spoke to the men; and Eliab’s anger burned against David, and he said, “Why have you come down? With whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride, and the naughtiness of your heart; for you have come down that you might see the battle.”” (1 Samuel‬ ‭17:28‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

1 Samuel 17:34 - David called the sheep “his father’s sheep”. David did not let the lion take away even one sheep. He killed the lion. Later on, he also protected his sheep from a bear.
Pastors, treat your flock as precious and important. God has entrusted them to you.
Pastors face attacks from the enemy. The enemy knows that if he smites the shepherd, the sheep will scatter. There is spiritual warfare at work.
The same was said of Jesus. Jesus was smitten and His flock scattered so that our flock will not be scattered.

“David said to Saul, “Your servant was keeping his father’s sheep; and when a lion or a bear came, and took a lamb out of the flock,” (1 Samuel‬ ‭17:34‬ ‭WEB‬‬)

Zechariah 13:7 - The first mention of sword in the Old Testament is after the fall of man. The cherubim held a fiery sword that cut every way, blocking access to the tree of life. The last mention of sword in the Old Testament is in Zechariah. The sword was sheaved in Jesus (the Shepherd) so that we would not be smitten by God’s wrath.

““Awake, sword, against my shepherd, and against the man who is close to me,” says Yahweh of Armies. “Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered; and I will turn my hand against the little ones.” (Zechariah‬ ‭13:7‬ ‭WEB‬‬)
