4 December 2016 - Hearts Transformed by Love and Grace - Pastor Lawrence Lim Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes OnlineOne of the most precious things that we are praying for is the salvation of our family members. The Lord will do a marvelous work for us in our lives. Great blessings await those who serve the Lord. There is a special honor for those who serve the Lord. Isaiah 9:6 - Our God is called "Wonderful" and "Counsellor". What we need is wisdom from Jesus. “For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6 NKJV) In five days, God created the universe and everything in it, and He said that it was good. On the sixth day, God created man and He said it was very good! We are the crown of God's creation, and we take His breath away. Genesis 1:27-28 - The very first thing that God did after creating man is to bless him (without condition). His heart is to bless us. We have a good God. God's heart is to bless the family unit of man and the marriage of man. “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”” (Genesis 1:27-28 NKJV) Jesus came because He wants us to have an abundant life. Psalm 23:1 - Because the Lord is our Shepherd, we shall never lack anything that we need. This statement is not contingent on making God our Shepherd. It's contingent on Him making Himself our Shepherd. It is God's good pleasure to give us His kingdom. God's heart is to give and bless. “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalms 23:1 NKJV) There was one thing in creation that was not good. God said that it was not good that man should be alone. Therefore God instituted the marriage covenant. Marriage is God's idea. God will turn your mess into your message. He will turn your testing into your testimony. He will make you a blessing to others! God is holding your hand and He is with you every step of the way. We cannot live life by our feelings. Sometimes we cannot feel Him or His presence. But the truth is that even right now, God is loving you. When two or three are gathered in Jesus' name, Jesus is right there in the midst of them. Because Jesus is here, we can receive. Let your faith arise. Let us be conscious of His presence that He is always with us. Jesus is in us - Christ in us the hope of glory. God wants us to enjoy days of heaven on earth in our marriage. Many people are going through divorces and they are not happy in their marriages. However with the blessing of God, we can be happy in our marriages. In His very first miracle, Jesus turned six water pots of water into the best, intoxicating wine. A marriage without Jesus begins like wine - intoxicating and great - and ends up diluted like water. Sometimes it even becomes like the bitter waters of Mara. Jesus created marriage, so He knows how to turn the water of our marriage into sweet, intoxicating wine. This is not contingent on us. It is contingent on Jesus. What we need in our marriage is His blessings. Ask Him to bless you. Look to Him! Only He can turn water into wine. In the end, what we need is the transformation of our hearts. When our hearts are transformed, the right behavior will follow. Ephesians 5:25-29 - This is an imperative, but it is not a command like in the Old Testament. We can only love if we know and understand what Jesus has done for us. We can't make ourselves love our wives. We have to receive the love from the Lord. We love because Jesus loves us. How do we bear fruit? Do we focus on bearing fruit? No. We bear fruit by exposing ourselves to the sunshine of God's love, by watering ourselves with God's word, and by receiving the nutrients of His grace. When we cast our self-righteousness (Paul describes "self righteousness" in the epistle to the Philippians as dung) away, we will bear fruit. God's word washes and cleanses us. His word makes us glorious, spotless and without wrinkle. It makes us literally young. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.” (Ephesians 5:25-29 NKJV) Every married person should pray for this: "Lord, transform my heart!". Don't pray for your spouse to be changed. When we try to change ourselves, it doesn't work. The secret of true, lasting transformation is to receive God's love and grace for ourselves despite all our failures. When we receive the love of God, we will manifest the fruits of the Spirit. When we experience God's love, we will want to do what is right. Grace transforms our hearts. Jesus went through Samaria and spoke to the woman by the well who was living in sin and immorality, but He did not once correct or condemn her. Jesus dealt with her with grace and showed her His love. That woman became an evangelist for God. Jesus met Zacchaeus the tax collector and extended grace to him without correcting or condemning him, and it led Zacchaeus to open up his house, his heart and his wallet. Ephesians 4:32 - When Jesus said that we must forgive others if not God will not forgive us, He was lifting the Law to its pristine standard. That was under the Old Covenant, that was not the gospel. However there has been a change in the New Testament. When we understand who we are in Christ, we become that. When we know and understand that God has already forgiven us, we have the power to forgive others. “And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32 NKJV) Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law. There are no more curses, only blessings for us! Song of Solomon 1:15 - God sees us as beautiful. Let these words of God fill you with His love for you. “" How beautiful you are, my darling, How beautiful you are! Your eyes are like doves."” (Song of Solomon 1:15 NASB) Song of Solomon 4:7 - What we cannot wash off in ourselves, Jesus' blood already did. “"You are altogether beautiful, my darling, And there is no blemish in you.” (Song of Solomon 4:7 NASB) Song of Solomon 1:8 - God sees you as the most beautiful of all! You are not the second runner-up or first runner-up in the beauty paegent, you are the WINNER! “" If you yourself do not know, Most beautiful among women, Go forth on the trail of the flock And pasture your young goats By the tents of the shepherds.” (Song of Solomon 1:8 NASB) Song of Solomon 4:9 - God doesn't want eternity without us. That's why He sent His Son to die for us. “"You have made my heart beat faster, my sister, my bride; You have made my heart beat faster with a single glance of your eyes, With a single strand of your necklace.” (Song of Solomon 4:9 NASB) When we receive the love of God, we will manifest the fruits of the Spirit.
