20 November 2016 - Trust God and Let It Go! - Pastor Ray Bevan Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes OnlineLuke 2:8 - Many pastors are shepherding their congregations without a full revelation of the gospel of grace. It's not good enough to preach grace a lot - pastors should be preaching grace ALONE. “Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night.” (Luke 2:8 NKJV) God speaks to us while we're doing our normal day to day stuff. In the fight of life, when the devil knocks you down, Grace will keep on counting (without disqualifying you) until you get up and finish your cause. Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trusting God is sometimes so difficult because we are human. There is a battle going on for your trust - The Lord, versus your reasoning and your emotions. “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV) Hebrews 4:15-16 - Jesus knows what it's like to trust His Father as a Human. Jesus understands our humanness. “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:15-16 NKJV) Mark 14:33-34 - Jesus demonstrated how to trust God when emotionally-crushed. Even when He was deeply distressed up to the point of sweating blood, He still said to His Father, "Your will, not mine be done.". “And He took Peter, James, and John with Him, and He began to be troubled and deeply distressed. Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch.”” (Mark 14:33-34 NKJV) I Peter 2:23 - Stay on the cross, it's safer there. When Jesus was insulted and taunted to prove Himself to be the Messiah while He hung on the cross, He did not retaliate - He stayed on the cross. Our emotions hate the consequence of trusting God - That emotion is vulnerability. As humans, we hate feeling vulnerable. Don't care about what people say about you. Trust in what heaven knows about you. Trust is faith plus nothing. “who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;” (I Peter 2:23 NKJV) Grace surprises us every day. It turns up at the most unlikely, unexpected time and place in our lives. Isaac in trusting God was vulnerable to Abraham with the dagger, about to perform the sacrificial act. Daniel in trusting God was vulnerable to the appetite of the lions. The children of Israel on the plains of Jericho were vulnerable as they were circumcised before battle. God is saying "Trust Me!" On the day of Passover, the children of Israel came out of Egypt with lamb in them. God wanted them to come into the Promised Land also with lamb in them. The smell of the Lamb brings fear into our enemy - it is the aroma of trust- a Christian giving up control to God in an out-of-control situation. When the devil smells Lamb on you, his hands are tied and it frustrates him. What out-of-control situation in your life are you trying to control? What is that situation that you need to leave in the hands of God, leaving yourself feeling vulnerable? It's easy once you're through that situation. Trust God and let it go!
