30 September 2005 - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermons About Speaking in Tongues - The Speaking Power of the Royal PriesthoodWe have kingship in Christ. Many young people are going in the wrong direction because of church history that is teaching endurance of poverty and suffering, an anemic form of Christianity without power. People worship money because they don't know God. Once the words of God has entered your heart, you will see the manifestation of the power of it. God's ways are simple. James 1 -Doer of the word means to bridle your tongue. "For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is useless." (James 1:23-26 NKJV) James 2:20-24 - Abraham's corresponding action of faith was speaking his faith. "But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” And he was called the friend of God. You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only." (James 2:20-24 NKJV) James 2:25-26 - Rahab's corresponding action of faith was speaking her faith. "Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." (James 2:25-26 NKJV) James 3:6 - Speaking with the tongue can change your whole course of nature. "And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell." (James 3:6 NKJV) Faith is not alive when it's in your heart. Faith is only alive when you speak it. Romans 10:4-10 - The righteousness of the Law is by doing, whereas the righteousness of faith is by speaking! The word must be in your mouth before it drops into your heart. Believing with the heart and speaking with the mouth leads to "salvation" which is "sozo" in Hebrew. Sozo means safety from danger, healing, wholeness, etc. "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, “The man who does those things shall live by them.” But the righteousness of faith speaks in this way, “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ down from above ) or, “ ‘Who will descend into the abyss?’ ” (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Romans 10:4-10 NKJV) Genesis 1:1-3 - God did not speak what was, but what He envisioned. This light that God spoke is not sunlight. The sun was only created on the fourth day of creation. When we have trouble in our lives, it is an area of darkness. Speak God's light into that area of darkness. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. (Genesis 1:1-3 NKJV) Genesis 2:1-2 - God's work was to believe and to speak. "Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done." (Genesis 2:1-2 NKJV) Believers experience negative things because they don't speak positive confessions on a regular basis. If you don't say anything positive or negative, negative things will continue to happen because the natural course of things in this world is negative. "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. (Genesis 1:1-3 NKJV) God did not speak what was, but what He envisioned. This light that God spoke is not sunlight. The sun was only created on the fourth day of creation. When we have trouble in our lives, it is an area of darkness. Speak God's light into that area of darkness. Romans 5:17 - God has established us into righteousness so that we can reign as kings in life through Jesus Christ. "For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)" (Romans 5:17 NKJV) "For if because of one man's trespass (lapse, offense) death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive [God's] overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] reign as kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One)." (Romans 5:17 AMP) Revelations 1:5-6 - We have been made kings and priests - a royal priesthood in Jesus Christ. "and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen." (Revelation 1:5-6 NKJV) Speak health and healing to your body on a regular basis in Jesus's name to be healthy. Ecclesiastes 8:4 - A king speaks and the forces that be executes his word. There is power in a king's words. "Where the word of a king is, there is power; And who may say to him, “What are you doing?”" (Ecclesiastes 8:4 NKJV) Deuteronomy 21:5 - Priests are representatives of grace and carriers of good news. By the word of a priest, every controversy and every assault is settled. The devil is not a priest, his words have no power. "Then the priests, the sons of Levi, shall come near, for the LORD your God has chosen them to minister to Him and to bless in the name of the LORD; by their word every controversy and every assault shall be settled." (Deuteronomy 21:5 NKJV) As kings and priests, we have a double portion of speaking power. Genesis 3:1-6 - Adam was standing there with Eve while she and the serpent were speaking, but he kept silent. The king kept silent throughout and did not exercise his power and authority. "Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?” And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ” Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate." (Genesis 3:1-6 NKJV) Guard your thoughts by not speaking out your negative thoughts. Take God's thoughts by speaking God's words. I Peter 5:8 - Lions that are hunting their prey keep very silent and move very slowly. The devil roars from afar because he has no teeth. He has no real power over you, he has only skills of deception. "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." (I Peter 5:8 NKJV) Ruth 3:18 - Ruth did not have to do anything but rest. Boaz completed everything for her after that. As kings we can rest and sit still on our throne, while God concludes our matters for us. "Then she said, “Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will turn out; for the man will not rest until he has concluded the matter this day.”" (Ruth 3:18 NKJV) Romans 8:37 - Jesus is the Conqueror. We are more than conquerors, we don't have to do the work of conquering. "Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." (Romans 8:37 NKJV) Romans 3:21-22 - Amidst your sin, declare that you are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. God will help you overcome your addictions through your faith declarations. "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." (II Corinthians 5:21 NKJV) Proverbs 10:11 - Once we are made righteous in Christ, our mouths are wells of life. Our words produce life. The unsaved don't have that power in their words. It's what we say about ourselves that has power, not what others say about us. "The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked." (Proverbs 10:11 NKJV) "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." (I Peter 5:8 NKJV) Lions that are hunting their prey keep very silent and move very slowly. The devil roars from afar because he has no teeth. He has no real power over you, he has only skills of deception. Proverbs 13:3 - You guard your mouth by praying and speaking in tongues. "He who guards his mouth preserves his life, But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction." (Proverbs 13:3 NKJV) Proverbs 15:4 - Positive words spoken has healing power and produces life. "A gentle tongue [with its healing power] is a tree of life, but willful contrariness in it breaks down the spirit." (Proverbs 15:4 AMP) Numbers 11:25 - In the Old Testament, when the Holy Spirit came upon people, they prophesied but did not speak in tongues. "Then the LORD came down in the cloud, and spoke to him, and took of the Spirit that was upon him, and placed the same upon the seventy elders; and it happened, when the Spirit rested upon them, that they prophesied, although they never did so again." (Numbers 11:25 NKJV) Acts 10:43-46 - The Holy Spirit loves words about forgiveness of sins, about Jesus, and about grace. Tongues are unique for the dispensation of the New Covenant of grace, and can only be spoken through a righteous spirit. Jesus did not speak in tongues because He does not have the same infirmities as we have. "To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.” While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered," (Acts 10:43-46 NKJV) I Corinthians 14:18-19 - The Corinthian church spoke in tongues all the time, yet Paul spoke in tongues more than all of them. Paul spoke in tongues all the time. By speaking in tongues, we guard our mouths. "I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all; yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also, than ten thousand words in a tongue." (I Corinthians 14:18-19 NKJV) Ephesians 6:17-18 - The Holy Spirit is the sword of the Spirit. The way we wield the sword of the Spirit is by speaking and praying in tongues. "And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—" (Ephesians 6:17-18 NKJV) Isaiah 59:14-21 - This is where Paul received the imagery of the Armor of God. When we speak in tongues, the Holy Spirit lifts up a standard against the devil. We are encourage to speak in tongues all the time. "Justice is turned back, And righteousness stands afar off; For truth is fallen in the street, And equity cannot enter. So truth fails, And he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. Then the LORD saw it, and it displeased Him That there was no justice. He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him. For He put on righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, And was clad with zeal as a cloak. According to their deeds, accordingly He will repay, Fury to His adversaries, Recompense to His enemies; The coastlands He will fully repay. So shall they fear The name of the LORD from the west, And His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him. “The Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” Says the LORD. “As for Me,” says the LORD, “this is My covenant with them: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants’ descendants,” says the LORD, “from this time and forevermore.”" (Isaiah 59:14-21 NKJV) The gift of speaking in tongues is so precious - Even though we don't know what we are declaring when we speak in tongues, God still honors the principle of speaking and the good things that we spoke will come to pass in our lives. The Holy Spirit is the sword of the Spirit. The way we wield the sword of the Spirit is by speaking and praying in tongues.
