30 October 2016 - Thanksgiving: The Key to Receiving Multiplication and Increase - Pastor Lim Lian Neo Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes OnlineAcronyms: DEAR (Drop everything and rest) and DEAR (Jesus has done everything and restored). John 6:1-14 - Two hundred Denarii wasn't even enough to feed the multitudes a little. But when Jesus multiplied the loaves, they ate AS MUCH AS they wanted. This miracle is significant as all four gospels record this incident. Jesus showed Himself as the Bread of Life. Jesus is our Supply, our Source and our Everything. “After these things Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias. Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased. And Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples. Now the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was near. Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?” But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do. Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little.” One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him, “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?” Then Jesus said, “Make the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand. And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted. So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, “Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost.” Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten. Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”” (John 6:1-14 NKJV) John 6:23 - John found it significant to repeat that Jesus had given thanks. If you need an increase and multiplication in your life, thanksgiving is the key to it! Thanksgiving is not a formula to earn blessings. It is a fruit produced from having a relationship with God. God loves to bless us because He loves us and when we give thanks, it gives Him great pleasure. “however, other boats came from Tiberias, near the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks—” (John 6:23 NKJV) Psalms 100:4 - God loves it when we come to Him with thanksgiving and not with a sulking gloomy face. “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.” (Psalms 100:4 NKJV) Eucharisteo = Literally "good grace" (to look up and be grateful for God's grace pouring down). In the Gospel of John, John used "eucharisteo" when Jesus broke bread and blessed God. Eulogeo = Literally "good word" (to speak well of). "Eulogeo" is used in the gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke in the same incident of Jesus breaking bread and giving thanks. Two hundred Denarii wasn't even enough to feed the multitudes a little. But when Jesus multiplied the loaves, they ate AS MUCH AS they wanted. This miracle is significant as all four gospels record this incident. Jesus showed Himself as the Bread of Life. Jesus is our Supply, our Source and our Everything. When Jesus was on earth, He moved as the Son of Man, not the Son of God. He had uninterrupted fellowship with the Father. The Son of God gave thanks and John saw that. John saw it fit to record and say something about Jesus doing that. Jesus was not pretending to give thanks to God for the sake of showing the disciples how it should be done. He did it sincerely out of His heart. Phillipians 4:6-7 - The Bible says that we don't have to be anxious about anything. Whatever you are anxious about, by prayer and supplication (asking), with thanksgiving (looking up and seeing the grace of God being poured down on you), you can stop being anxious. When you look to men and demand from their flesh, you can get angry. When you are trusting God for something to happen and you're still waiting, you don't have to be anxious - look up. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV) The Greek word for "Man" is "Anthropos" which means "Upward-looking one". Man is not made like other creatures which look down at the dust. When we complain it's because we took our eyes off the Lord and placed it on ourselves or others and give ourselves or others stress. Our grumbling is not going to help anything. Looking up to God will change everything. Do this every morning when you wake up (Acronym): ACT (Adoration, Confess [who we are in Christ], Thanksgiving). Deuteronomy 8:7-18 - God wants us to know that He has blessed us with every good thing so that we can look up and give thanks for it. God doesn't want us to ever forget that it is He who has blessed us. “For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, that flow out of valleys and hills; a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey; a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing; a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you can dig copper. When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you. “Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, lest— when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty land where there was no water; who brought water for you out of the flinty rock; who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do you good in the end— then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’ “And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.” (Deuteronomy 8:7-18 NKJV) Jeremiah 17:5-8 - If you only trust in yourself and in man, it is a cursed life to live. A blessed person doesn't have to be anxious because he/she depends on the grace of our good God. “Thus says the LORD: “Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD. For he shall be like a shrub in the desert, And shall not see when good comes, But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, In a salt land which is not inhabited. “Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:5-8 NKJV) Be a person who says "It's not about me, it's not about others, it's about Jesus!". No good thing dwells in our flesh, and if there's any good it's because of the goodness of God. We have a good God and we can just look up every day. Jesus was beaten that we might be blessed. Because wave upon wave of judgement came upon Jesus at the cross, we can enjoy wave upon wave of blessings today!
