7 Biblical Ways to Know your Calling in Life

7 Biblical Ways to Know your Calling in Life

Overview:
  1. Strong, lasting Desire
  2. Talent in an area without Burnout
  3. Confirmation from others
  4. Strong resistance and persecution from the devil
  5. Evidence of good fruit
  6. Aligned with God’s word
  7. Open doors in an area

Hi dear reader, I believe that somewhere along your walk with the Lord, one question you’ll have is “What is my calling/purpose in life?”.

God’s word teaches us that there are ways to find out! The answer I received is that my calling is to write anointed content for the Lord.

1) A strong and lasting desire towards an area of service to the Lord without burning out

“For it is [not your strength, but it is] God who is effectively at work in you, both to will and to work [that is, strengthening, energizing, and creating in you the longing and the ability to fulfill your purpose] for His good pleasure.” (PHILIPPIANS 2:13 AMP)

Personally, I love reading God’s word, seeing the ‘hidden Jesus’ in the text and writing about the revelations I receive from it.

This is something that I enjoy doing and find fulfillment in.

It doesn’t drain me of energy but it refuels and refreshes me!

God provides both the desire and the ability to do it.

What do you find yourself constantly drawn back to?

Even if you have not done it for a long time but that thing has always been in your heart, like nagging you to get started again.
That could very well be a key to knowing your calling in life.

You can’t know for sure, unless God speaks clearly and directly to you about it, but you can certainly make a wise guess based on all the ways I’ve shared in this post to help you know your calling in life.

2) Having exceptional talent in a particular skill or area of service

“Working together with Him, we strongly urge you not to receive God’s grace in vain [by turning away from sound doctrine and His merciful kindness].” (2 CORINTHIANS 6:1 AMP)

There are many different things we can do in life - so many skills and activities that no one can try everything and no one can be good at everything.

But one thing I know is that God has blessed you to be good at something and He will lead you on a journey to discover it.

You see, it’s possible to receive God’s grace in vain if you don’t use the grace you’ve been given.

When you discover that area or skill in which you have received grace, you will find that you’re good at it restfully and easily.

Have you discovered which skill you're talented at?

If not, pray for God to open your eyes to His gifting that is already inside you.

If you’re humble, you will be able to discern that it’s God’s grace working in you and not your own strength.

3) Confirmation from others

“If anyone speaks in a tongue, it should be limited to two or at the most three, and each one speaking in turn, and one must interpret [what is said]. But if there is no one to interpret, the one [who wishes to speak in a tongue] must keep silent in church; let him speak to himself and to God. Let two or three prophets speak [as inspired by the Holy Spirit], while the rest pay attention and weigh carefully what is said.” (1 CORINTHIANS 14:27-29 AMP)

Although the passage above is talking about the context of speaking in tongues and prophesying, it applies to identifying our calling in life too.

Do people tell you that you’re good at something you do, and you find that it’s a repeated theme of your life?

At times God will use people to speak prophetically into your life to give you clues.
This Christian life isn’t meant to be just between you and God and no one else.

We are part of the collective body of Christ and each part is interdependent on the whole.
We are to help each other to grow in our gifting and ministry for the Lord.

4) Strong resistance and persecution from the devil

“But since we were taken away from you, believers, for a little while--in person, but not in heart--we endeavored, with great longing to see you face to face. For we wanted to come to you--I, Paul, again and again [wanted to come], but Satan hindered us. For who is [the object of] our hope or joy or our victor’s wreath of triumphant celebration [when we stand] in the presence of our Lord Jesus at His coming? Is it not you? For you are [indeed] our glory and our joy!” (1 THESSALONIANS 2:17-20 AMP)

It is a pattern in the Bible where the devil tries to stop whatever God is doing.
He sees God’s activity and tries to sabotage it, but praise the Lord, he always fails in the end.

Do you find that often when you’re doing something that you love and feel led to, there are sudden, seemingly-random bad things happening all at once?

That’s the devil trying to hinder something good that God is doing through you.
If that happens often enough when you’re doing the same type of activity, then the devil is actually indirectly pointing you to God’s will for your life!

That’s one way that God can turn what is meant for evil to become a tool for good.

It is not recorded in the Bible that the Apostle Paul faced any sort of persecution while he was an anti-Jesus Pharisee persecuting the early church.

There was no need for the devil to persecute him because he was doing the devil’s will.

However, when Saul became Paul and started planting churches around the world, he started facing severe persecution that’s incited by the devil.

This shows clearly that Paul was living out the God-given calling on his life.

5) Evidence of good fruit

“Even so, every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the unhealthy tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit.” (MATTHEW 7:17-18 AMP)

Which brings me to my next point. Paul’s ministry obviously bore much good fruit.

The evidence is that the churches he planted were growing - souls were being added to God’s kingdom and the new believers were growing in the grace of God.

What are you doing that is producing a positive impact on the lives of others?

Maybe people are happier and encouraged after you do a certain thing?

The fruitfulness in something you do can also help in identifying your calling in life.

Sandcastles Don't Last Forever

$7.99

This is the eBook version.

If you prefer to get the Paperback version (physical copy), you can get it on Amazon here for US$15.

About the Book:

One day when I was singing praises to God, an image floated up in my spirit: a big and beautiful sandcastle being washed away by the waves from the sea. God was teaching me the futility of holding tightly onto worldly possessions because like the sandcastle, they won't last, and one day will cease to exist.

He taught me from His word to focus on Him and by doing so, I would reap great eternal rewards before Jesus' throne at the start of the Millennium. These rewards will last forever and can't be destroyed or stolen.

It is my prayer that the revelations in this book will help you to live with a focus on the things above where God is, fulfill your God-given calling in life, be happier and to accumulate more eternal rewards to your account.

In this Book, you will learn about:

- Heavenly investment advice and the futility of worldly pursuits from a trillionaire in the Bible

- Why God has to reward us in order to be righteous

- When and how God will destroy the current earth and sky to make way for new ones

- The types of fireproof works that earn eternal rewards at the end of time

- The abundant rewards of doing good works while abiding by the non-disclosure agreement between God and you

- The difference between the temporary places of torment: Sheol and Abaddon

- Who is the Antichrist and his name revealed in the Bible

- What is the Mark of the Beast and why it disqualifies its recipients from receiving salvation

- The different judgments at the throne of Jesus Christ and what it means for you as a believer

- How to fulfill your calling and maximize your gifts to receive the best eternal rewards

Testimonials about the contents of this book:

"Sandcastles Don't Last Forever is very well written, its message loud and clear. Milton Goh gives common-sense insight on often confusing Scripture, which is much appreciated in these troubled times. My understanding of the Bible has definitely improved."

- Mike Garrett, first Editor/ Publisher for Stephen King and Author of Christian Novel "Innocence Denied", from USA

"This book is absolutely breathtaking. We don't work to be saved but were created to do good works. I am so energized and excited to know God values our works and we will be rewarded. This is all Glory to Jesus... I cant wait to throw my crowns at his feet and thank him for saving my life!" - Evangelist Michael Clark from USA

"Dear Milton Goh, I truly thank our Abba, Father for the revelations in this book. It is so amazing how I begin to discover important verses in the Bible that I have never read. That instead of following riches, with sleepless nights, and actually shortening our lives, we are just to 'Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ', and 'Love one another'. How beautiful to find out that actually in the Bible there is both 'Earthly or Worldly Investment Wisdom' and 'Eternal Investment Wisdom' according to the revelations here from Ecclesiastes 5:14-17 WEB)!; “It seems like Solomon was not only wise at earning material riches but also at earning eternal riches.” All the glory to our Lord Jesus Christ! God bless you Milton Goh for such a wonderful book!" - Nitta Nierra from Belgium

“Thank you Milton. I have just finished reading “Sandcastles Don’t Last Forever”. It’s such a good book that's filled with God's word. I love it very much. Might read again if I have the time. Thanks so much!” - Mally Chai from Singapore

"I'm reading this book and loving it! The revelations of the Gospel truth shared and it's life applications are absolutely amazing! I give glory to the Lord Jesus for my dear brother Milton for this exceptional resource. I'm gonna keep feeding on its contents and believe God for supernatural breakthroughs as my mind is renewed in Christ!" - Terence from Tombel, Cameroon

“Excellent book!! I enjoyed reading it so much and definitely recommend it! Milton is so gifted and all his teachings have blessed me tremendously! I thank God for people like him. Get this book, it will be worth it!” - Madeleine from SA, “Unmerited Favor” tier patron

6) Aligned with God’s word

One thing’s for sure: Your calling in life will never contradict God’s word because His word is His revealed will.

God won’t call you to become the greatest thief or the most seductive prostitute in the world because stealing and sexual immorality are both sins.

Some other things that God won’t call you to do:
  • Become a tattoo artist
  • Operate a nightclub
  • Become a cigarette/drug/alcohol importer (with the exception of wine)
  • Create horror movies
  • New-Age healing, meditation, yoga etc.
  • Manufacture pagan idols or construct pagan temples
  • Become a medium/witch/wizard/witch doctor/soothsayer/necromancer/sorcerer
  • Become a vigilante killer
  • Become a porn star
  • and the list goes on... add whatever else is sinful on this list.

If something you do is aligned with God’s word (not sinful) and fulfills the criteria in most of the other points in this post, then that thing qualifies to be a potential calling in your life.

7) Open doors in an area of service

“A man’s mind plans his way [as he journeys through life], But the LORD directs his steps and establishes them.” (PROVERBS 16:9 AMP)

If God has placed a calling on your life, He will surely give you opportunities to fulfill your calling and to grow in that area of gifting.

You can’t possibly be called to do something if the chance to do that thing never comes up.

If you find that the Lord is repeatedly leading you to do the same type of activity and that it is something you love doing, you’re good at it, there are people blessed by your work, confirmation from others, persecution from the devil, and more, then it could be God revealing your calling in life.

You can’t know for sure, unless God speaks clearly and directly to you about it, but you can certainly make a wise guess based on all the ways I’ve shared in this post to help you know your calling in life.

Prayer for the Day:
Dear Abba Father, reveal clearly to us the calling that you’ve placed on our lives, and help us to cultivate the related gifts you’ve placed in us.
We desire to serve you effectively in that ministry so that we may stand before Jesus’ throne during the judgment and confidently proclaim like the first servant in the Parable of the Minas: “Lord, your mina has made ten more minas!”. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!

Hi Milton!

Sure, I've asked, and continue to ask: "What's my calling?"

Yes, one gets happy, filled with energy, when reading the Bible.

So many Christians struggle to out what it is they're good at. I believe it's essential to be able to answer that question before it's possible to live a purpose-filled life.

You asked:

"What are you doing that is producing a positive impact on the lives of others?"

That's an important question to ask. Today there are so many possibilities to leverage a talent so that we can help people in ways we didn't have access to a couple of years ago.

Sincerely!
Edna Davidsen
