Should Believers watch Horror Movies for Fun?

Should Believers watch Horror Movies for Fun?

Hi dear reader, the Bible teaches us as believers to abstain from every form of evil - no exceptions!

I’m so thankful that we are not alone in this, but as the passage of the day says, it is the God of Peace who sanctifies us and helps to keep us separated from evil things.

Under the New Covenant, God supplies us with the desire and the grace to live a holy (set apart) life for Him!

I used to really enjoy watching horror movies in recent years after I got over the fear of them through a cool mental trick that I believe God gave me as a form of practical wisdom.

However just this week, I received the revelation that I have to abstain from horror movies too because it is definitely evil.

I received the revelation that I have to abstain from horror movies too because it is definitely evil. I don’t have the fear of horror movies anymore, but I just don’t want to give the devil any legal loopholes to attack my family just for the sake of getting some meaningless entertainment.

The principles taught in God's word disapproves of Horror Movies

I don’t have the fear of horror movies anymore, but I just don’t want to give the devil any legal loopholes to attack my family just for the sake of getting some meaningless entertainment.

Just yesterday, my wife Amilee asked me if I wanted to watch “The Nun” which is the continuation of “The Conjuring” and “The Conjuring 2” movie series which we watched and enjoyed.

I told her no because I deducted that I’m not going to watch horror movies anymore for the sake of keeping our family safe from unnecessary spiritual attacks.

“Brothers and sisters, do not be children [immature, childlike] in your thinking; be infants in [matters of] evil [completely innocent and inexperienced], but in your minds be mature [adults].” (1 CORINTHIANS 14:20 AMP)

One thing about horror movies is that it delves into the dark world of the occult, showing the things of the devil such as ouija boards, pentagrams, demonic possession, etc.

On the surface it seems to be warning of the dangers of getting involved in such practices, but it actually creates curiosity and leads people to want to find out more about such things.

I know because they did so for me.

God’s word teaches us to be completely innocent and inexperienced about matters of evil.

This is why in the Bible, God always leaves out the detailed process by which the wicked spiritual practitioners do their dark magic.

For example, the magicians of Egypt who competed with God through Moses, and the witch of Endor who pretended to summon up the spirit of Samuel (she actually summoned a demon who disguised itself like Samuel).

The Bible just states the act that they did, but doesn’t teach us how they did it.

Obviously God doesn’t want us to know, and we shouldn’t be trying to learn or find out.

“"The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” (Matthew 6:22-24 NASB)

I know that the passage above is talking in the context of desiring God Versus coveting wealth, but the same principle applies:
If you watch horror movies, you are filling your eye with evil, and it causes your whole body to be full of darkness.

What you read and watch on a daily basis does make an impact on your body and your life.

When your body is filled with darkness, it seems to imply that in the darkness, the devil can attack - send you sickness, dark thoughts, etc.

We should be filling our bodies with light instead by spending time in God’s word on a daily basis.

When your body is full of God’s light, you can receive healing, health, youth renewal, grace, supernatural strength, energy and more!

“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” (I John 4:18 NKJV)

Horror movies are designed by a team of experts to induce fear in the minds and hearts of its viewers.

You may think “It’s not big deal, it’s just cheap scares for fun!”

But anything that causes this kind of unhealthy fear is definitely not from God and not approved by Him.

Horror movies really wrecked me when I was a child, giving me nightmares, fearing the dark (because of what may lurk in it), and when I close my eyes I just imagined scary images.

It’s only after becoming a believer thatI was delivered from this type of fear.
No one should go through that bondage to their own evil imagination.

Sandcastles Don't Last Forever

This is the eBook version.

If you prefer to get the Paperback version (physical copy), you can get it on Amazon here for US$15.

About the Book:

One day when I was singing praises to God, an image floated up in my spirit: a big and beautiful sandcastle being washed away by the waves from the sea. God was teaching me the futility of holding tightly onto worldly possessions because like the sandcastle, they won't last, and one day will cease to exist.

He taught me from His word to focus on Him and by doing so, I would reap great eternal rewards before Jesus' throne at the start of the Millennium. These rewards will last forever and can't be destroyed or stolen.

It is my prayer that the revelations in this book will help you to live with a focus on the things above where God is, fulfill your God-given calling in life, be happier and to accumulate more eternal rewards to your account.

In this Book, you will learn about:

- Heavenly investment advice and the futility of worldly pursuits from a trillionaire in the Bible

- Why God has to reward us in order to be righteous

- When and how God will destroy the current earth and sky to make way for new ones

- The types of fireproof works that earn eternal rewards at the end of time

- The abundant rewards of doing good works while abiding by the non-disclosure agreement between God and you

- The difference between the temporary places of torment: Sheol and Abaddon

- Who is the Antichrist and his name revealed in the Bible

- What is the Mark of the Beast and why it disqualifies its recipients from receiving salvation

- The different judgments at the throne of Jesus Christ and what it means for you as a believer

- How to fulfill your calling and maximize your gifts to receive the best eternal rewards

Testimonials about the contents of this book:

"Sandcastles Don't Last Forever is very well written, its message loud and clear. Milton Goh gives common-sense insight on often confusing Scripture, which is much appreciated in these troubled times. My understanding of the Bible has definitely improved."

- Mike Garrett, first Editor/ Publisher for Stephen King and Author of Christian Novel "Innocence Denied", from USA

"This book is absolutely breathtaking. We don't work to be saved but were created to do good works. I am so energized and excited to know God values our works and we will be rewarded. This is all Glory to Jesus... I cant wait to throw my crowns at his feet and thank him for saving my life!" - Evangelist Michael Clark from USA

"Dear Milton Goh, I truly thank our Abba, Father for the revelations in this book. It is so amazing how I begin to discover important verses in the Bible that I have never read. That instead of following riches, with sleepless nights, and actually shortening our lives, we are just to 'Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ', and 'Love one another'. How beautiful to find out that actually in the Bible there is both 'Earthly or Worldly Investment Wisdom' and 'Eternal Investment Wisdom' according to the revelations here from Ecclesiastes 5:14-17 WEB)!; “It seems like Solomon was not only wise at earning material riches but also at earning eternal riches.” All the glory to our Lord Jesus Christ! God bless you Milton Goh for such a wonderful book!" - Nitta Nierra from Belgium

“Thank you Milton. I have just finished reading “Sandcastles Don’t Last Forever”. It’s such a good book that's filled with God's word. I love it very much. Might read again if I have the time. Thanks so much!” - Mally Chai from Singapore

"I'm reading this book and loving it! The revelations of the Gospel truth shared and it's life applications are absolutely amazing! I give glory to the Lord Jesus for my dear brother Milton for this exceptional resource. I'm gonna keep feeding on its contents and believe God for supernatural breakthroughs as my mind is renewed in Christ!" - Terence from Tombel, Cameroon

“Excellent book!! I enjoyed reading it so much and definitely recommend it! Milton is so gifted and all his teachings have blessed me tremendously! I thank God for people like him. Get this book, it will be worth it!” - Madeleine from SA, “Unmerited Favor” tier patron

Horror movies are deceiving and stumbling blocks to faith

“But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.” (II Corinthians 4:3-4 NKJV)

Another thing I dislike about horror movies is that it always portrays the Christians in the movies to be so weak and powerless against the demons.

This is totally not what the Bible teaches us about our authority over demons.

God’s word teaches us that in Jesus’ name, demons have to submit and flee. That in His name, we can cast out demons.

We don’t have to wait for a 'priest' dressed in religious robes to come throw ‘holy water’ on the demon or possessed person and holding a crucifix while chanting some ‘Hail Marys’.

Every believer has authority over demons in Jesus’ name - If only we would awaken to this powerful truth.

But it’s precisely because this truth is such a big threat to the devil that he lies to us through horror movies, making us seem helpless against the powers of darkness - he veils the light of the gospel to keep the deceived in the darkness of ignorance.

“but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble and sin [by leading him away from My teaching], it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone [as large as one turned by a donkey] hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. “Woe (judgment is coming) to the world because of stumbling blocks and temptations to sin! It is inevitable that stumbling blocks come; but woe to the person on whose account or through whom the stumbling block comes!” (MATTHEW 18:6-7 AMP)

Horror movies are definitely stumbling blocks to faith.

They whet the uninitiated’s appetites for the things of the devil, fuel ungodly fear, and downplay the authority that believers have over forces of darkness.

We shouldn’t cause people to stumble in faith by watching horror movies and encouraging others to watch them too.

Woe is coming to whoever is making horror movies, unless they repent of their wickedness and give their lives to Jesus.

Jesus can turn around the lives of the wicked for His own glory - just look at the Apostle Paul’s life and you’ll know.

The one who used to be a Pharisee persecuting the early church became one of the greatest apostles of Jesus Christ, preaching the gospel of grace boldly across the world!

In closing, I have decided to stop watching horror movies even though I find them fun and enjoyable.

It’s one thing to avoid them because you’re scared of them, and another to avoid them because you have the revelation that they are evil and that God wants you to abstain from all forms of evil!

Prayer of the Day:
Dear Abba Father, thank You for the revelation that as believers we should not watch horror movies. Give us the grace to abstain from every form of evil, to be innocent in all matters of evil, and to instead be filled with godly wisdom in all things which are good and from You. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen!

Every believer has authority over demons in Jesus’ name. It’s such a big threat to the devil that he lies to us through horror #movies, making us seem helpless against the power of darkness - he veils the light of the #gospel to keep the deceived in the darkness of ignorance!
