7 Simple Methods We Used to Solve Maeleth's Baby Teething Problems and Enjoy a Good Night's Sleep!

Whenever Maeleth starts teething, we can't help but feel nervous because sometimes her teething problems affects her so bad that she gets fever, can't drink her milk properly, and frequently wakes in the middle of the night.

With all these possible negative consequences of teething, the following are some simple methods that we have personally used to solve Mae's baby teething problems and thankfully enjoy a good night's sleep!

These are not professional medical advice, but are just ways that have worked for us in our parenting journey with Mae.

1) Use Teething Gel

We applied a teething gel onto Maeleth's gums before she drank milk or went to sleep.

After applying the teething gel, we would put the teat of her milk bottle inside the freezer to sit for 2 - 3 minutes. The ice-cool teat soothes Mae's gums and encourages her to drink her milk.

These steps soothed the teething problems for her and allowed her to drink all her milk and sleep through the night!

2) Use Teething Toys

We gave Mae some teething toys to chew on to soothe her teething problems! We put the teething toys in the fridge to make them cold and extra comfy for her gums!

There are many varieties available for purchase and many of them are multi-functional as well - some help babies to practice their sensory and tactile skills.

3) Singing While Feeding Milk

We sing  songs to Mae when she is drinking her milk. No, playing a song on the iPhone doesn't work. She likes live music, haha!

This distracts her from any teething problems and allows her to be distracted enough to finish all her milk.

The key is to have a repertoire of songs at your fingertips that can last throughout the milk feed.

Sing for your child and see what songs he or she likes. Form a repertoire of songs you can sing during the milk feed to make feeding time easier.

4) Holding Toys While Drinking Milk

We also pass a variation of toys to Mae when she is drinking her milk. This distracts her from her teething problems.

We prepare a few toys to last throughout the milk feed.

The trick is to change up the toys and give her new stuff to play with. I recommend getting a few sets ofinexpensive animal toys that children love!

Toys can be a great way to distract kids from their teething problems. A well-fed baby will probably sleep through the night better than one who is rejecting food due to the teething discomfort.

5) Diffuse Essential Oil While Baby Sleeps

We have a diffuser which we turn on when Mae is about to sleep for the night.

We add lavender essential oil to the diffuser which I read promotes better sleep.

It smells good and helps Mae to sleep through the night without waking up due to any teething problems.

6) Apply Cooling Gel Patch in Case of Fever due to Teething

Sometimes when Mae had teething problems, she would get a mild fever.

During times like these, we wouldstick a cooling gel patch on the back of her neck. We would prefer to stick it on her forehead but she always pulls it off.

These cooling gel patches help to bring the body temperature down, reducing the discomfort from the fever, allowing Mae to sleep through the night.

The cooling patch brings down the temperature of your little one who is having a fever, providing quick relief and they will be able to sleep through the night easier.

7)  Clean baby's body with wipes if having fever due to teething

Using a kind of head-to-toe baby body wipes that doesn't need any water and also moisturises baby's body, we would wipe Mae all over her body before bedtime to bring down the fever.

The wipes are cool and they smell good, helping to put Mae into a sleepy state to be ready to sleep as well.

Wiping your little one with the head-to-toe baby wipes will help them feel relaxed and comfortable, ready to sleep through the night.
