From what I read, Black Friday originated in tragedy of a financial crisis but was later on retold and largely accepted as the start of the busy Christmas shopping season, starting the day after the US holiday of Thanksgiving.

"Black" because it was the day where the accounting ledgers of the stores in USA would turn from being "in the red" to "in the black" - from making a loss, to reaping a profit, due to the shopping frenzy over the Thanksgiving weekend. 

I recently learnt from my friend who is a pastor that Thanksgiving is a day of giving thanks to God for all the blessings they experience that year, so it's a holiday I can relate with and love!

It is an encouragement to us to persevere and not give up in doing good for the Lord because there are surely rewards to be gained that we can enjoy for eternity.  If you prioritize God's kingdom daily and be eternity-minded, you will surely experience abundant blessings in this lifetime, and in eternity.  Living for the Lord is not painful - it is a fruitful journey where as you focus on Jesus and do His will through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you’ll find many blessings along the way because you are unconsciously walking on the path of the righteous. As you seek the kingdom of God first and Jesus (God’s righteousness), all the earthly blessings will be added to you. You don’t even have to pursue them, for they will follow after you.
