While 31st October is commonly remembered as the Day of Halloween, did you know that it is also Reformation Day which essentially celebrates the triumph of truth over deception?

We don't believe in going around in scary costumes and scaring kids to give them nightmares, so as firm believers that good always triumphs over evil, we dressed up as superheroes which we feel best represents what we believe!

Upon invitation by I12 Katong to participate in their "Howl-O-Ween" event on 22 October 2017, we visited the mall to experience the festivities for ourselves!

Join us with your little ones (aged 12 and below) for a Howl-O-Ween Trick-or-Treating adventure @i12katong mall! □ • All you have to do will be to purchase anything from I12 Katong and redeem a free Treat-or-Treat bag for your kid! They will get to score free treats at the participating stores! • We will be there to attend the session with their roving mascot at 2pm on 22nd October, and yes, we’ll be in costume! Upon entering the atrium area on level 2 of the mall, it was immediately obvious how well-decorated the surroundings were!
It's like we were transported into a distant world filled with all sorts of spooky things (and I loved the creepy ambient music too)!

My favorite props are the numerous Jack-O-Lanterns strategically placed around the mall. Take a look and see for yourself:

Face Painting

We came to the event knowing that there would be a face-painting activity and initially we planned for Maeleth to have two pink bats painted on her face, to match her Batgirl costume.

HOWEVER, as it turns out, Mae began to protest by whining the moment the face-painting artist approached her with the paintbrush, so being the sporting daddy that I am, I took her place.

My original costume had a black face mask, so I took it off and requested for a mask to be painted on my face.
I must say that the artist did a great job - she made it creative and interesting as compared to my boring black mask!

Trick-or-Treat Adventure Begins!

After having my face painted, we collected Mae's trick-or-treat bag with a cute black cat design on it - it's so cute!
Then we followed Emcee Vivien around the mall who was leading a line of children who were excited to be collecting lots of candy.
She demonstrated to us how we should be doing the trick-or-treating, and the mall's roving mascots: Dracula and Dark Angel, gave out candies to all participating children as we arrived at each stop of the tour - not bad, kids could even get candies from a demo!

The rules of the trick-or-treat adventure were simple: Basically collect as many candies at participating merchants in the mall within the time limit, and the child who collected the most number of candies would win $100 worth of I12 Katong Vouchers - WOW!
Every participating child receives a $5 I12 Katong Voucher as well as lot of yummy candies so everyone's a winner.

Despite us running around the whole mall to trick-or-treat, we did not manage to collect even half a bag full of candies. It didn't help that my improvised socks-over-shoes 'boots' were extremely slippery!

Thankfully, Mae had a lot of fun collecting candies - She kept saying "Sweet!" and taking out the pieces of candy from her trick-or-treat bag. It makes me so happy to see her enjoy herself.

Candy Counting and the winner is...

Soon, time was up and all the children assembled back at the atrium area for the candy counting to determine who was the candy collecting champion!

The winner was a little girl (I didn't manage to take a photo) who somehow managed to collect a full bag of candies - How did you do that little girl? Teach me your ways! Did you secretly pour the entire bowl of candies into your trick-or-treat bag when the shopkeeper wasn't looking?

As guest bloggers of the event, we had the honour of awarding the $100 voucher from I12 Katong to the little girl - Little girl, are you going to use it to buy more candies?? Just kidding!

Balloon Art/ Sculpting and Howl-O-Ween Photobooth

After the trick-or-treat adventure ended, the balloon artist for the event arrived. Yay because Mae loves balloons!
We hurried to the front of the queue and asked him if he could make a "Pororo" or "Peppa Pig" balloon animal which are Mae's favorite cartoon characters but he said he could only make a pink penguin for Mae - we took it.

Seeing him skillfully and quickly twist the balloons with a world-class poker face was quite a sight - he's a pro and we love the adorable pink penguin he made!

We ended our event experience with a family photo taken at the Howl-O-Ween Photobooth.
I love that they had so many props available to choose from to enhance the fun-factor of the photos!

Featured Kids with Cool Costumes

Personally, I was very impressed that most of the children dressed up in costumes for the Howl-O-Ween event! Some of their costumes were very elaborate -
kudos to the mummies and daddies that put in so much time, effort and money into giving them a memorable experience.

Thank you @i12katong for having us at your Howl-O-Ween event at the mall - we had so much fun!
