18 May 2014 - Notes for Pastor Ray Bevan's Sermon - New Creation Church - It's Time to Silence the Bullies!Luke 18:35-43 - the religious self-righteous cry out for credit, not for mercy. They see Jesus as mere mortal, but Blind Bartimaeus believed that Jesus is more than that. "Then it happened, as He was coming near Jericho, that a certain blind man sat by the road begging. And hearing a multitude passing by, he asked what it meant. So they told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. And he cried out, saying, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Then those who went before warned him that he should be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be brought to Him. And when he had come near, He asked him, saying, “What do you want Me to do for you?” He said, “Lord, that I may receive my sight.” Then Jesus said to him, “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight, and followed Him, glorifying God. And all the people, when they saw it, gave praise to God." (Luke 18:35-43 NKJV) God doesn't want us to preach grace a lot, but to preach grace alone. Christianity is not the sacrifice we make, it's the sacrifice we trust in. That sacrifice is Jesus's finished work at the cross. The bully of sin will try to threaten a believer. However, we as believers don't have to bow down to the bully of sin. We are already pardoned, but many believers wrongly believe the accusations of condemnation from Satan. There is now therefore no more condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2000 plus years ago... God in flesh paid the ultimate price for our sins. He gave up His life on the cross so that we could have eternal life as a free gift. He is an overpayment for all mankind's sins, and nothing in this Universe can equal His value. That is why today His blood continues to cleanse us of all sin and opens up Heaven's blessings in our lives. His blood avails for all time because Jesus - the Lord of Time and Space - has always existed outside of the dimension of time. We just need to tell the world that their sins have been forgiven, and that they only need to believe it. Where sin abounds, grace superabounds. The grace in us shouts louder than the bully of sin shouts at us. Hebrews 6:19-20 - The bully of sin issues the threat of separation from God. We are anchored by Jesus. He has gone behind the veil ahead of us into the very presence of God as our forerunner. Our salvation can never be lost. "This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek." (Hebrews 6:19, 20 NKJV) Nothing can ever separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus. As believers, we are a new creation in Christ Jesus. Although we still fall into sin once in a while, our soul is anchored in Heaven. We are considered as crucified with Jesus on the cross, and are eternally secure and will never be separated from God. Jesus has already paid the price for our sins, and we received that sacrifice as a gift. The Law says you have to do something to be righteous. Grace says "What do you want me to do for you?" with no conditions required, with no limits. Matthew 18:2-4 - "Impossible" is not in the vocabulary of a 5 year old child. When we have the great faith of little children, nothing is impossible with God. 2 Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, 3 and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
