8 February 2015 - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online - Living With A Bold Assurance of Faith (Part 2)Will of the Father - To remove the first covenant of The Law. Work of the Son - The once-and-for-all offering of Jesus on the cross has forever made us righteous. Witness of the Holy Spirit - The Holy Spirit was there when Jesus sacrificed Himself on the cross. He saw our sins punished on Jesus at the cross and testifies that our sins are remembered no more. Believers still sin after they are saved, but our sins don't make us unrighteous again. Hebrews 10:26-31 - Sinning willfully is apostasy. It is rejecting the truth even when seeing the proof (miracles, wonders, Jesus Himself) of the truth in front of your eyes. "For if we go on deliberately and willingly sinning after once acquiring the knowledge of the Truth, there is no longer any sacrifice left to atone for [our] sins [no further offering to which to look forward]. [There is nothing left for us then] but a kind of awful and fearful prospect and expectation of divine judgment and the fury of burning wrath and indignation which will consume those who put themselves in opposition [to God]. [Isa. 26:11.] Any person who has violated and [thus] rejected and set at naught the Law of Moses is put to death without pity or mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. [Deut. 17:2-6.] How much worse (sterner and heavier) punishment do you suppose he will be judged to deserve who has spurned and [thus] trampled underfoot the Son of God, and who has considered the covenant blood by which he was consecrated common and unhallowed, thus profaning it and insulting and outraging the [Holy] Spirit [Who imparts] grace (the unmerited favor and blessing of God)? [Exod. 24:8.] For we know Him Who said, Vengeance is Mine [retribution and the meting out of full justice rest with Me]; I will repay [I will exact the compensation], says the Lord. And again, The Lord will judge and determine and solve and settle the cause and the cases of His people. [Deut. 32:35, 36.] It is a fearful (formidable and terrible) thing to incur the divine penalties and be cast into the hands of the living God!" (Hebrews 10:26-31 AMP) It's not that "Christ has done something and I have to do something" - rest in God's grace. We are as close to God as we can possibly be. Unless you know what you have, you cannot give. Unless you know who you are, you can't behave congruently with your identity. The standing of a person is wrapped up in the standing of the high priest. Our Great High Priest is Jesus Christ.
The Holy Spirit was present when Jesus took our sins upon Himself and was judged by the Heavenly Father at the cross. The Holy Spirit is a Witness who testifies that indeed, all our sins have been punished in the body of Jesus and we have perfect forgiveness from God the moment we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior!
Hebrews 5:12-14, 6:1-3 - Being under The Law is like partaking of milk for babies. Being under Grace is partaking of solid food, and being of full maturity. "For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food. For everyone who partakes only of milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, for he is a babe. But solid food belongs to those who are of full age, that is, those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits. (Hebrews 5:12-14, 6:1-3 NKJV) Galatians 4:3-5 - Being under the Law shows spiritual immaturity. The gospel makes you a son/daughter of God. We are greater than the greatest prophets of the Old Testament just by position alone. We are sons and daughters, they were only servants of the household, no matter how anointed, highly-skilled or knowledgeable they were. "Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world. But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons." (Galatians 4:3-5 NKJV) Hebrews 6:4-8 - The Book of Hebrews is written to the Jews, not Gentiles. It is possible to be enlightened to the truth and yet not be saved. Tasting is not the same as drinking. "Partaker" means a partner, not the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. In the Old Testament, the prophets performed signs and wonders with Holy Spirit on them, not in them. Judas Iscariot was among the 12 disciples who worked miracles in Jesus's name, being a partner with the Holy Spirit, yet he is not saved. There are different reactions and outcomes of listening to the gospel - acceptance of the truth and therefore blessing, and rejection of the truth and therefore curses and death. "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame. For the earth which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God; but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned." (Hebrews 6:4-8 NKJV) Hebrew 6:9-18 - This section is speaking to all believers. God remembers all the good works that we have done and will justly reward us for it. Faith, perseverance and patience combined allows us to receive our needs from God. God's word alone is enough to be trustworthy, but for our sakes due to humans' weak faith, He swore by Himself to give us the strong consolation that He will bless and multiply us. God absolutely cannot lie. "But, beloved, we are confident of better things concerning you, yes, things that accompany salvation, though we speak in this manner. For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.” And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation is for them an end of all dispute. Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us."
