5 February 2017 - Blessed On Grace-Ground and Dead to the Law - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes OnlineProverbs 12:27 - It is very easy as leaders in ministry to assume that you are feeding on the word that you are preaching. Preaching doesn't mean that you are meditating on God's word. Make sure that you feed and meditate on what you have preached. “The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, But diligence is man’s precious possession.” (Proverbs 12:27 NKJV) John 7:37-38 - You don't drink for others. You drink for yourself. Jesus said drink, not draw. When we drink well, the rivers of living water that flow out of you is for others. “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”” (John 7:37-38 NKJV) Galatians 3:5 - "Supplies" and "works" in the verse is in the continuous present tense which means that God is constantly supplying the Spirit and working miracles. Knowing this puts you in the consciousness of grace - grace is all about supply, whereas the Law is all about demand. If you are Law-conscious, you will be very stressed out and anxious because you are conscious of all the demands placed on you. If you are like that, you are effectively under Law. Even if you have a busy day ahead, if you are supply-conscious, you will know that God's grace will supply what you need so that you can complete all the tasks. In this way you won't be stressed out! Jesus worked miracles among sinners - among prostitutes, tax collectors, etc. Sin cannot stop God's power in its tracks. You cannot psyche yourself out of fear. But you can hear your way out of fear by listening to the gospel of grace being preached! “Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?—” (Galatians 3:5 NKJV)
In a motivational seminar, you have to buy the course and apply the '7 steps' before you see results.
God doesn't wait for that. While you are listening, God produces the results in you. While Cornelius and his household was listening to Peter preach, the Holy Spirit fell on them and they began to speak in other languages. Are you standing on grace-ground or on the Jewish Law-ground? Most people don't know the function of the Law. The Law came in that the offense might abound. The strength of sin is the Law. The spring of holiness is grace. Some people think that after you are saved by grace, you have to keep the Law to live a Holy life. That is error. The correct way: You started by grace through faith and you continue with grace through faith. We are dead to the Law! The Law was given and Jesus brought it to its pristine standard. Jesus used the Law to make man guilty and for them to realize their need for a savior. The Law makes every mouth to be stopped. Romans 7:4-8 - Being dead to the Law means you don't respond to the Law! Jesus' death on the cross is counted as our death too. We are dead to the Law. We are not married to Mr Law (Mr Perfect). Our flesh needs the Law to be activated - e.g. Teenagers who see a sign by a lake that says "No fishing", purposely go to fish there. If there was no sign, they wouldn't even be moved to fish. The flesh is not your body. The flesh is the part of you that wants to sin and wants to do wrong. In our flesh dwells no good thing. Your flesh cannot be improved. Although we are not in the flesh, we have the flesh in us. We are in the Spirit. The sin principle is still in us. It is activated when we TRY to do something good. The very effort activates the flesh. The flesh either pushes back so far, resistant to God, or it goes too fast when God wants you to stay and be at rest. We see this in Peter: When Jesus wanted to wash Peter's feet, Peter initially strongly refused When you bring yourself under the Law, the strength of sin is the Law. The devil is so subtle. The low-level devil tempts you to go visit a massage parlor to do immoral stuff. The high-level devil is transformed into an angel of light and keeps telling you to keep the Law to activate the sin principle in you. We are married to Christ who is risen. The more you try to keep the Law, the more you cannot bear fruit to God. When you are dead to the Law, you can bear fruit to God. The Law was given by Moses a servant, whereas Grace came by Jesus the Son. We are not under demand (Law), we are under supply (Grace)! The Law is like a stainless silver spoon that stirs a cup of water that has sediments settled in it. There is nothing wrong with the Law, but the wrong lies in our flesh. The Law stirs up our flesh. If you see a person who is sick, don't be a Pharisee and judge that person for his/her sins. Bring the supply - pray for their healing. Man was not designed to be sick or grow old and die. Those happen because man sinned. Sin has consequences - if you put your hand in the fire you will get burnt. “Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter. What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.” But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all manner of evil desire. For apart from the law sin was dead.” (Romans 7:4-8 NKJV) Pastor Joseph Prince's ministry produces many people who are delivered from addiction to pornography. You shall know a tree by its fruits. Right believing produces right living. How do you tell whether a ministry is preaching the true gospel? You go by the majority! Don't look at the few who are living in sin because they may not be truly following the teachings and may be listening to counterfeit grace teachers. Judas Iscariot was the minority out of Jesus' twelve apostles, and His failure does not reflect on Jesus' leadership. Galatians 3:11-12 - If sickness is death begun, then life begun is health. Jesus commended two people for having great faith: The centurion had great faith. The woman who had a demon-possessed daughter also had great faith. What is the common denominator between the two? They were both non-Jews. The centurion was a Roman and the woman was a Canaanite. They did not know the Law. They were not conscious of the Law, but they were conscious of Jesus. That's why they could have great faith. The way of the Law is if you keep all the commandments then only will you live. The way of grace is if you just believe that you are righteous by faith, you will live. We are no longer servants to Jehovah. We are sons to our Abba Father! Keep that spirit of sonship alive. The word "live" is the Greek word "Zao". The meanings of "Zao" (Vine's dictionary) 1) The enjoyment of physical life 2) The recovery of physical life from the power of disease 3) The recovery of physical life from the power of death 4) The maintenance of physical life. “But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for “the just shall live by faith.” Yet the law is not of faith, but “the man who does them shall live by them.”” (Galatians 3:11-12 NKJV) John 4:50-53 - Jesus is the Lord of Time. His first miracle was to turn water into wine. He accelerated the process of what would take many years. Jesus performed His second miracle of healing a son from a distance. He is also the Lord of Space. The word "lives" is "zao". Zao here means recovery from disease. The devil will come and ask you "What makes you different from others?". Reply: I don't know about the others, but I know this: "I have my Jesus and I believe in Him and His word". “Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, “Your son lives!” Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.” So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household.” (John 4:50-53 NKJV) You can either live by doing or live by believing. If you live by doing you will be very stressed. If you live by believing you will be at rest.
When you bring yourself under the Law, the strength of sin is the Law. The devil is so subtle. The low-level devil tempts you to go visit a massage parlor to do immoral stuff. The high-level devil is transformed into an angel of light and keeps telling you to keep the Law to activate the sin principle in you.
Galatians 3:5-14 - The stars are not for Astrology. That's Satanic. During Abraham's time, the stars showed the story of the gospel. Now we don't need to read the stars because we have the Bible. The moment Abraham read the story of the gospel in the stars and believed it, God accounted it to him as righteousness. The Law is for infants (baby Christians). Grace brings us into a place of sonship. Under Law, we call God Yahweh. Under grace, we call Him Abba! Under Law we are conscious of what we are to God. Under grace, we are conscious of what God is to us - He is our Provider, our Healer , our Righteousness, etc. Jesus called Zacchaeus a "son of Abraham" because he had faith in Him. Jesus called the woman who was bent over for 18 years a "daughter of Abraham". Ought not a daughter of Abraham be loosed from this sickness?? We ought to live free from all sickness and disease! Under the New Covenant, we are blessed by believing that we are righteous by faith. If you believe that you are justified by faith, you are BLESSED together with believing Abraham. What are the blessings of Abraham? 1) Both Abraham and his wife Sarah lived long lives of more than one hundred years of age. 2) Two heathen kings wanted Sarah for their harem. Heathen kings don't use spiritual sight - they use their eyeballs. Sarah's renewal of youth was physical and literal. The more a man believes right it affects the wife. The Bible doesn't say that if you break the Law then you'll be cursed. It says that the moment you place yourself on Law-ground, you are cursed! Even a Christian can come under this curse. “Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?— just as Abraham “believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.” So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham. For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.” But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for “the just shall live by faith.” Yet the law is not of faith, but “the man who does them shall live by them.” Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Galatians 3:5-14 NKJV) There is a bath that's once and for all. There's also daily washing of feet. Instead of trying to do something to get God's blessings, which is a posture of stress and panting, just rest and declare "I am already righteous by faith and therefore I am blessed!" Jesus' one-time offering avails for all time. In God's eyes, He does not see sin on us, even though today we still have sin in us. When we stand in God's light, His light exposes the work of Jesus in our lives. The light is not to expose our sins. God doesn't want us to have a slave-mentality. We obey God because we love Him. The obedience we have for Him is born out of love. It is a family relationship. Being in a garage doesn't make you a car. Being in McDonald's doesn't make you a Big Mac. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian unless you believe in Jesus. There is a difference between a professing believer and a possessing believer. How do we explain a so-called believer who is living in sin? 1) He/She was never truly saved. 2) If He/She is saved, he/she is not having a good time. It's like living with split personality. The way of a transgressor is hard God's discipline is coming to that person, and he/she won't like it. God disciplines His children because He loves them. Hebrews 12:11 - The primary way that God disciplines us is through His word, but it is not the only way. This verse describes that the chastening is "painful" which does not tally with chastening through the word of God. If a believer living in sin is not reading/listening to God's word, then God will discipline him/her through circumstances. Example: Maybe he/she could have a boss that is very strict and harsh that keeps giving him/her problems. The circumstance will seem out of the ordinary - even supernatural. “Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” (Hebrews 12:11 NKJV) Someone who is saved (a true sheep) will always bounce back to righteousness even if he/she was tempted by the devil and falls into sin. It's like a rubber ball - no matter how you stretch and pull it, it will always bounce back to its original state. Only someone who is not truly saved (a pig) will continue and remain to live in sin, enjoying and wallowing in it. Daniel 7:13-14 - Jesus the Son of Man is coming back! When Jesus comes back, we who believe in Him will appear with Him in glory. ““I was watching in the night visions, And behold, One like the Son of Man, Coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, And they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, Which shall not pass away, And His kingdom the one Which shall not be destroyed.” (Daniel 7:13-14 NKJV) Revelation 14:14 - The last mention of Jesus' head. The Father will make sure that for every humiliation that Jesus suffered, He will be vindicated and for every step down there will be a step up. For every humiliation that that you have suffered as a Christian, God will definitely vindicate you when He comes again and you appear with Him in glory. “Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and on the cloud sat One like the Son of Man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle.” (Revelation 14:14 NKJV) Are you able to call God "Abba" and be comfortable with it? If not you are still effectively under Law. Be conscious that there is no distance between you and God. Get a sense of the closeness you have with God.
