5 March 2017 - Follow the Holy Spirit, Don't Live By Reasoning! - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes OnlineOur God is a good God and He has so much goodness that He wants to pour it out to us! A bell is not a bell until you ring it. Love is not love until you give it. The nature of love is to pour out. God did not create man to suffer for Jesus. Somehow people have an idea that to be a Christian is to suffer for Jesus' sake. Christians get persecuted for the word's sake, but we don't suffer the curses that Jesus already delivered us from. Love is self-sacrificial so there is suffering involved. John 10:10 - Jesus came that we may have LIFE, not suffering. Anything short of "life more abundant" is not God's will for us. “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10 NKJV) Leviticus 14:1-4 - What is Leprosy? It is a disease - it causes your body parts to rot. You get cut off from your people. Lepers live isolated. It's like a life sentence. It's more than just a physical thing - it represents our sin. If a leper is leprous from head to toe, the priest will pronounce him clean - if we believe that we are only slightly bad, we are not cleansed. But if we admit that we are a sinner through and though, Jesus pronounces us clean because only sinners can be saved. Even though we are saved, we must still depend on Jesus, not on our own flesh. We are drawn towards Jesus, it's not that we found Him on our own. The unseen Person here is the Holy Spirit who brought us to Jesus. He doesn't run to force us back to Him if we walk away from Him, but we just forfeit all our blessings. This chapter was never put into practice on the children of Israel because only Naaman the Syrian (a Gentile) was cleansed of Leprosy under the Old Covenant. The birds are easily obtained. They are easily found in Israel. Trespass offering: If you have been cheated or someone sinned against you, you will get much more restored back to you - It's an example of how when sin abounds, grace superabounds. The blood of the trespass offering will be placed on the cleansed leper's right ear lobe (whatever he hears will be blessed), right thumb (whatever he does will prosper) and right toe (wherever he walks will be blessed). Oil will be then put over the blood. The oil represents the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit respond and answers to the blood of Jesus. Be conscious that the blood of Jesus keeps on cleansing you from all unrighteousness. The Spirit answers to the blood! Under the Old Covenant, only three categories of people are anointed with oil: the kings, prophets and priests. The lowly leper is now anointed with oil too. This shows grace superabounding in his life. Much more is restored to him for all his losses. Of all the wives that David had, God chose the son of Bathsheba to become king. In the area where you have sinned the most but responded with faith to God, that's the very area that God will cause grace to superabound in your life! “Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “This shall be the law of the leper for the day of his cleansing: He shall be brought to the priest. And the priest shall go out of the camp, and the priest shall examine him; and indeed, if the leprosy is healed in the leper, then the priest shall command to take for him who is to be cleansed two living and clean birds, cedar wood, scarlet, and hyssop.” (Leviticus 14:1-4 NKJV)
If you walk away from Jesus and were never saved, then you'll find yourself regretting your rejection of Him in the worst way possible:
Seeing Jesus in front but not reaching Him and the dark Abyss behind - sentenced to a dark, painful, Christ-less eternity. No one spoke about hell more than our Lord Jesus did. The leper was probably listening to Jesus preaching the Sermon on the Mount - crying and moved by the love of God. Jesus walked towards the leper after He was done preaching. The leper knew that He had the power to heal him, but he didn't know whether Jesus would be willing to heal him. Jesus not only healed him, but touched the leper - it was probably the first time he was touched ever since he had the leprosy. Jesus then told the leper to present himself to the priest to show that he is cleansed. This is the first time the law of the leper is put into practice. Jesus cleansed the Gedarene demoniac from the Legion of demons inside him. Jesus could hear the demoniac shrieking from across the lake. The demoniac was naked and cutting himself day and night. God will not allow the demon to touch your free choice. Cutting yourself is a demonic activity. Shedding your clothes (example: prostitution) is a demonic activity. The only marks in heaven are the holes in Jesus' hands and feet. When the gifts of the Holy Spirit are moving, we must obey implicitly. If the Holy Spirit says that He wants to heal the left hip, He means the LEFT hip. God has a beautiful place in heaven with many new body parts. You don't have to live life with a degenerating body part that is only keep alive with medicine. You can receive a new one from Jesus! Live with an expectation of good, not with an expectation of judgment. Pray for the sick, especially when God leads you. Luke 24:49 - The Promise refers to the Holy Spirit. “Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”” (Luke 24:49 NKJV) Acts 1:4-5 - The proof that Luke 24:49 is talking about the Holy Spirit as the Promise of the Father. “And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”” (Acts 1:4-5 NKJV) Jesus will come back bodily, not spiritually. At the Rapture, we will be caught up to meet Jesus in the air. That will launch the Great Tribulation which will be like hell on earth. Jesus' feet will touch the Mount of Olives at His Second Coming.
The leper was probably listening to Jesus preaching the Sermon on the Mount - crying and moved by the love of God. Jesus walked towards the leper after He was done preaching. Jesus not only healed him, but touched the leper - it was probably the first time he was touched ever since he had the leprosy.
Acts 2:1-4 - What the Law demands, the Spirit imparts to us. The Holy Spirit imparts righteousness to us. Under the Old Covenant, when the Law was given, 3000 people died on the Day of Pentecost. Under grace, on the Day of Pentecost, 3000 people were saved. “When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:1-4 NKJV) Acts 2:32-33 - The gift of speaking in tongues is the promise that Peter is referring to which can be seen and heard. This idea that you are baptised by the Holy Spirit immediately after being saved is not accurate. Being saved is having the Holy Spirit inside you. Baptism of the Holy Spirit is you being inside the Holy Spirit. Baptism of the Holy Spirit is you diving into the pool - it means immersion into the Holy Spirit. “This Jesus God has raised up, of which we are all witnesses. Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.” (Acts 2:32-33 NKJV) John 7:37-39 - The Commandments of grace are actually enablings. They are easy. They are part of our nature. “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.” (John 7:37-39 NKJV) Judges 14:6 - This is not the baptism of the Holy Spirit because the Holy Spirit came, performed what He came to do, and left. King David prayed to God, "take not away Your Holy Spirit" out of all the many blessings that he had. “And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he tore the lion apart as one would have torn apart a young goat, though he had nothing in his hand. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.” (Judges 14:6 NKJV) Grieve not the Holy Spirit because He never leaves you. He cannot leave even though He suffers seeing you sin. How much you grieve for a person depends on how much you love a person. God's Son died in your place. You have received the title of "God's child". The devil cannot convince you that you are meant to live a bad, lousy life because Jesus paid for you to have life more abundant! Don't have confidence in your abundance, popularity, power etc. as being the reason that you have received the title of God's child - that's how you fall from grace. Galatians 3:13-14 - The payment that redeemed us out of the curse market is the blood of Jesus. To redeem us from our sins required Jesus to die. To redeem us from the curse required Jesus to die on the CROSS. The blessing of Abraham is for the Gentiles as well - anyone who is a non-Jew. The blessing of Abraham is RIGHTEOUSNESS. Blessings are upon the head of the righteous. No evil shall happen to the just (righteous). The prayers of a righteous man avails much. Of all the blessings of God, God esteems the promise of the Holy Spirit as the greatest blessing - It is the blessing that attracts all blessings! “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Galatians 3:13-14 NKJV) You don't have to tithe, you get to tithe.
Mark 2:5-8 - Perceive, don't reason! Follow what the Spirit says. Adam and Eve reasoned about God's instruction of not eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. They did not perceive God's instruction as it is. The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil is there for man to show God's ownership of everything. Man is a steward. Sometimes giving to someone is wrong. Sometimes doing a nice thing may not be a Spirit thing. Example: If you gave money to the prodigal son in the pig pen, you would be undoing what God was trying to accomplish. The word "reasoning" is the Greek word "dialogismos". If you live by reasoning, you cannot live the abundant life. The Spirit moves faster than you can reason. Sometimes we know things before it happens, and we are regretful or relieved depending on whether we obeyed the prompting or not. Jesus perceives things by the Spirit. “When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven you.” And some of the scribes were sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, “Why does this Man speak blasphemies like this? Who can forgive sins but God alone?” But immediately, when Jesus perceived in His spirit that they reasoned thus within themselves, He said to them, “Why do you reason about these things in your hearts?” (Mark 2:5-8 NKJV) Acts 27:10-15 - The centurion trusted in the so-called experts (the helmsman and owner of the ship) instead of trusting in Paul who has never steered a ship. Do experts' advice cause you to ignore the promptings of the Holy Spirit? Don't depend on circumstances. The south wind blew softly, but suddenly became a tempestuous wind! Stop depending on your mind. Your mind will lead you to heartaches and loss. “saying, “Men, I perceive that this voyage will end with disaster and much loss, not only of the cargo and ship, but also our lives.” Nevertheless the centurion was more persuaded by the helmsman and the owner of the ship than by the things spoken by Paul. And because the harbor was not suitable to winter in, the majority advised to set sail from there also, if by any means they could reach Phoenix, a harbor of Crete opening toward the southwest and northwest, and winter there. When the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their desire, putting out to sea, they sailed close by Crete. But not long after, a tempestuous head wind arose, called Euroclydon. So when the ship was caught, and could not head into the wind, we let her drive.” (Acts 27:10-15 NKJV) Acts 27:21-26 - Even though the disaster happened because the men did not listen to Paul's warnings, Paul did not condemn them. The "certain island" is Malta. "Malta" means honey. Following the Holy Spirit will lead you into the land flowing with milk and honey. “But after long abstinence from food, then Paul stood in the midst of them and said, “Men, you should have listened to me, and not have sailed from Crete and incurred this disaster and loss. And now I urge you to take heart, for there will be no loss of life among you, but only of the ship. For there stood by me this night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve, saying, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul; you must be brought before Caesar; and indeed God has granted you all those who sail with you.’ Therefore take heart, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it was told me. However, we must run aground on a certain island.”” (Acts 27:21-26 NKJV) The Holy Spirit bears witness with your spirit. The Holy Spirit will never tell you to divorce your spouse or to commit adultery. He will always lead you into paths of peace and rest, and bring you into plenty.
