22 January 2017 - The Secret of Hearing that Brings Untold Blessings (9 Jan 2011) - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online(Originally preached by Pastor Prince at Rock Auditorium on 9 January 2011.) Man has an inclination towards the negative side. Just one negative remark can upset our day. We have to learn how to focus on things that are good and positive, especially on the gospel. We have a good news gospel! Everything we receive from God is through faith. If you don't receive it through faith, even if it comes on you, it will leave. We are healed by faith, and saved by faith. Don't concentrate on fighting the devil. Focus on faith. When you are in faith, the devil is defeated - your fight is to fight the good fight of faith - fight to remain in faith. Faith has got to do with Jesus. He is the Author and Finisher of Faith - He writes it and completes it. Romans 10:17 - How does faith come? It is not by preaching the Ten Commandments. Faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God. Stay in faith to be positioned under the spout where the glory comes out. Faith doesn't come by having heard once. It comes by repeated hearing and hearing. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17 NKJV)
Romans 10:14-17 - It is not the norm for God to speak to you directly.
That's not what is meant by "faith comes by hearing". What it means is hearing from a preacher. You must bring out Jesus from the word of God (from Genesis to Revelation) for it to produce faith. The Ten Commandments is also the word of God, but faith doesn't come from hearing that. Faith comes from hearing the gospel of peace being preached. Listen always to the gospel of peace and glad tidings of good things. “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!” But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “ LORD, who has believed our report?” So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:14-17 NKJV) When the Corinthian believers were going to the temple prostitutes, how did Paul handle it? Paul did not bring in the Ten Commandments. Paul said "Don't you know your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit?" Whenever strife, sin and immorality happened in the church, Paul always reminded the believers "Don't you know?" Paul reminded the believers of who they were in Christ. It's easier to give the Law than to give revelation - it takes the Holy Spirit to give revelation. Psalm 65:11 - In the verse, "Goodness" in Hebrew is "tov" and "Abundance" in Hebrew is "deshen". “You crown the year with Your goodness, And Your paths drip with abundance.” (Psalms 65:11 NKJV) Isaiah 55:2-3 - Another place in the Bible where "tov" and "deshen" appear together. In the verse, "good" is "tov" and "abundance" is "deshen". "Listen carefully" is "shema shema" in Hebrew. The Hebrew word "shema" which means "to listen" doubled twice is the key to receiving God's blessings. We need to have a listening heart just like King Solomon. Our hearts have ears. “Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you— The sure mercies of David.” (Isaiah 55:2-3 NKJV) Psalm 103:5 - When your soul is satisfied, your youth will be renewed physically just like how the eagle's renewal is literal. “Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Psalms 103:5 NKJV) Exodus 15:26 - "Diligently heed" is "shema shema". This is the first mention in the Bible of "shema shema". The first "shema shema" blessing is healing. We don't have to keep all of God's statutes today because Jesus already did it on our behalf and set it to our account. The "If" condition has been fulfilled by Jesus. All that's left for us today is to listen and listen. The woman with the issue of blood broke many of God's commandments and laws (an unclean woman is not supposed to appear in public), yet Jesus healed her. This is the first revelation in the Bible that God reveals Himself as "Jehovah Rapha", the God who heals. “and said, “If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the LORD who heals you.”” (Exodus 15:26 NKJV) Luke 5:15 - Faith is a response to God's goodness. If you need healing, you need to be hearing God's word, not just receiving prayer without hearing first. “However, the report went around concerning Him all the more; and great multitudes came together to hear, and to be healed by Him of their infirmities.” (Luke 5:15 NKJV) Psalm 63:6 - King David had insomnia. He turned it to a blessing by meditating on God's word in the nighttime. You can hear from a preacher or you can be the preacher to yourself too by meditating on God's word! To meditate means to mutter God's word. “When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.” (Psalms 63:6 NKJV) Luke 6:17-19 - All who came to hear Jesus preach were healed! Faith means believing that God is good. Human nature tends to distrust God. It's sad, but as humans we need to be reminded always that God is good. Your first response in a crisis is important - it reveals who you are - are you immediately plagued with worry and fear, or do you stay in faith? If your first response is fear and worry, then you need to keep hearing and hearing the word of God. “And He came down with them and stood on a level place with a crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases, as well as those who were tormented with unclean spirits. And they were healed. And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them all.” (Luke 6:17-19 NKJV) Acts 14:7-10 - Paul and Barnabbas were preaching the gospel in Lystra - not the Law, but the good news! The word "preaching" in the verse is in the imperfect tense - it means that is was a repeated and continued action. They kept on preaching the gospel. The word "heard" in "heard Paul speaking" is in the imperfect tense as well. The crippled man kept on hearing and hearing Paul preach. Out of all the multitudes, the crippled man was the only one mentioned and called out for having faith. Why? Because he kept on hearing and hearing. It wasn't that he heard for a few minutes only. He probably followed Paul from city to city to keep on hearing Paul preach. The crippled man disobeyed Paul - he didn't just stand up, he leaped and walked too! “And they were preaching the gospel there. And in Lystra a certain man without strength in his feet was sitting, a cripple from his mother’s womb, who had never walked. This man heard Paul speaking. Paul, observing him intently and seeing that he had faith to be healed, said with a loud voice, “Stand up straight on your feet!” And he leaped and walked.” (Acts 14:7-10 NKJV) Deuteronomy 11:13-14 - "Earnestly obey" in Hebrew is "Shema Shema". “‘And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to love the LORD your God and serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul, then I will give you the rain for your land in its season, the early rain and the latter rain, that you may gather in your grain, your new wine, and your oil.” (Deuteronomy 11:13-14 NKJV) Deuteronomy 11:21 - The second "shema shema" blessing is days of heaven on earth for your family - days filled with joy, peace and love. The next best thing you can receive after salvation is good health, then followed by blessed family life. Sickness is a burden to your family. You must have good health to be able to enjoy your family. “that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the LORD swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above the earth.” (Deuteronomy 11:21 NKJV) Deuteronomy 15:5-6 - "Carefully obey" in Hebrew is "shema shema". The third "shema shema" blessing is prosperity. Those who lend reign over those who borrow. “only if you carefully obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe with care all these commandments which I command you today. For the LORD your God will bless you just as He promised you; you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow; you shall reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over you.” (Deuteronomy 15:5-6 NKJV) Deuteronomy 28:1-3 - "Diligently obey" in Hebrew is "shema shema". The fourth "Shema shema" blessing is that all of God's blessings will come upon you and overtake you! ““Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God: “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.” (Deuteronomy 28:1-3 NKJV)
James 1:23-25 - Some preachers say "Be doers of the word and not just hearing". That robs people of the desire to keep hearing God's word. The "mirror" mentioned in the verse is referring to the word of God. People who keep hearing and hearing the word of God will naturally become doers of the word. What the verse is saying is don't be a one-time hearer. Keep on hearing and hearing. The "perfect law of liberty" is not talking about the Ten Commandments, but the Gospel of peace. “For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” (James 1:23-25 NKJV) Galatians 3:2-5 - We receive God's blessings not by our performance but by the hearing of faith. “This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? Have you suffered so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?—” (Galatians 3:2-5 NKJV) Hebrews 4:2 - The children of Israel heard the good news that they would possess a land flowing with milk and honey and that they would be living in houses that they did not build, and own vineyards that they did not plant, but they didn't believe the good news. “For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.” (Hebrews 4:2 NKJV) When you feel empty and lousy are the days where you end up indulging in sin. Keep on listening in God's word to be filled with nourishment and faith. John 7:37-38 - Jesus did not say take water from Him for others to drink. He said "let him come to Me and drink" - drink directly from Jesus. If you drink from Jesus, out of your belly will flow rivers of living waters resulting in others being blessed as well. “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”” (John 7:37-38 NKJV) I hope that you have been blessed by reading this post on "22 January 2017 - The Secret of Hearing that Brings Untold Blessings (9 Jan 2011) - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online".
