19 February 2017 - See the Holy Spirit in the Book of Genesis - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes OnlineThe church is a living organism. It is the most powerful, eternal body that Jesus died to redeem. This world is going on in a way that God never meant it to go. Why did God allow evil in this world? It is because God didn't want to create robots. He gave us free choice. If we were all robots, it would be a beautiful world, but it would be very cold. There would be no love. The thing about free choice is that you can't take away the negative consequences. If you choose to put your hand in the fire, you will get burnt. When the Lord is in charge, this world will become paradise on earth. The wolf will lie down with the lamb. The children will play at the serpent's nest and not be hurt. The gift of the working of miracles is one of the nine gifts of the Holy Spirit. It is the working of any miracle that is not healing. When the gift of the working of miracles happens, you will have the faith in you to do it - you will just know that you KNOW that you know. Romans 7:4-5 - Nothing can be more final than dead. Dead means you're incapable of responding to the Law. The Book of Romans is the magna carta of what the gospel is. It deals with justification by faith. Only when you're dead to the Law and married to Jesus, then only can you bear fruit to God. When you're under the Law, the sinful passions in you are aroused by the Law. When you see an outbreak of sin, it usually happens in people who think they can keep the Law. The more they try, the more the Law proves that they cannot keep the Law. The flesh is never more subtle than when it is religious. The strength of sin is the Law. The spring of holiness is grace. “Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death.” (Romans 7:4-5 NKJV) On the day that God gave the Law on Mount Sinai, 3000 people died. The Feast on that day was the first Pentecost. On the day of Pentecost that the Holy Spirit came, 3000 people were saved. The letter kills but the Spirit gives life. Romans 8:2 - Chronic tiredness is sickness begun, and sickness is death begun. We have been set free from the Law of sin and death. Keep declaring this and you will see yourself being set free from tired, sickness and death. “For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” (Romans 8:2 NKJV)
Galatians 5:16-18 - The flesh is very legalistic. It is important to flow with the Spirit. If you follow the Spirit, He will lead you into freedom.
God doesn't always lead with an inward voice. Sometimes God leads us by peace. When there is peace, do it. When there is no peace, don't do it. Don't break your children's spirit, but break their will (their intention to do wrong). The Holy Spirit in Hebrew is "Ruach Hakodesh". He does not have many other titles. He is a God who loves to glorify Jesus. If you want the friendship of the Holy Spirit and you want Him to hug you and come close to you, talk about Jesus. People who have a heart for Jesus accomplish much more in life than theologians who know their Bibles back to back but have no heart for Jesus. “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” (Galatians 5:16-18 NKJV) The wise men came to King Herod and asked "Where is He who is born King of the Jews?". King Herod was afraid and commanded for the Messiah to be located and killed. The scribes used their Scripture knowledge against Jesus. They told King Herod that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. They had the knowledge about God but they had no heart for God. Luke 24 - The people of Israel thought that Jesus would immediately establish the Millennial rule, but Jesus' First Coming was to settle a deeper bondage: sin. They were placing Israel as the main thing, not Jesus. Jesus expounded the things concerning Himself from the Books of Genesis, Exodus, etc. That was the key to recovering the two disciples on the Road to Emmaus. “But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, today is the third day since these things happened... Then He said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?” And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” (Luke 24:21, 25-27 NKJV) Parallels in the lives of Joseph and Jesus: Joseph was betrayed by his own brothers. Jesus was betrayed by His own people. Joseph was sold for 20 pieces of silver. Jesus was sold for 30 pieces of silver. Joseph was rejected by his own people and became the bread of life for the Gentile world. For the past 2000 years, the church of Jesus Christ is mainly made up of Gentiles who became believers. The second time his brothers came to Joseph in Egypt, Joseph revealed his identity to them. At Jesus' Second Coming, the Jews will know who He is. The Heavenly Father loves us so much that He gave us His Son. Jesus loves us and He chose to give up His life for us. The Holy Spirit that indwells us loves us too. Genesis 22:2 - This is the first mention of love in the Bible. The law of first mention is one of the keys of Bible interpretation. When something appears for the first time, there is an important truth there for us. The first love mentioned is not boy-girl love. It's about how much the father loves the son. When you know how much our Heavenly Father loves Jesus, you will know how much our Heavenly Father loves you. Abraham said that "God Himself will provide a lamb." The ram that appeared was caught in the thicket by its horns. The ram represents Jesus. It was caught by its horns so that it would have no blemish or spot. When Abraham pulled the ram out from the thicket, the thorns would probably have wrapped around the ram's horns, forming a 'crown of thorns' like the one that pierced Jesus' head. The Pharisees missed the point. It was not about Jesus seeing Abraham. It was that Abraham saw Jesus. The Pharisees were so angry that they wanted to stone Jesus, but Jesus disappeared in their midst. They couldn't kill Him because He is sinless. Death cannot fasten on Him. As long as Jesus is alive, even the people around Him cannot die. If they died, they would be raised back to life. That is the reason why Jesus had to die on the cross first before the two thieves who were crucified on his left and right could die. “Then He said, “Take now your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.”” (Genesis 22:2 NKJV) The Holy Spirit writes it very accurately: When coming down from the mountain, the Scripture says that Abraham came down the mountain. There was no mention of Isaac coming down the mountain (although he did) because Isaac was already considered dead. In God's eyes, the ram's death in his place had been considered as his own death. Rebekah was mentioned because Rebekah would become the bride of Isaac, representing the church who is the bride of Christ. Genesis 24:1-4 - This is the longest chapter in the Book of Genesis. Why did the Holy Spirit give so much wealth of detail in this chapter? It is about the Holy Spirit looking for the bride of Christ. The Holy Spirit is represented by the unnamed servant. The Holy Spirit rules over all that God has. The Servant was on assignment to choose the one for His Master. “Now Abraham was old, well advanced in age; and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things. So Abraham said to the oldest servant of his house, who ruled over all that he had, “Please, put your hand under my thigh, and I will make you swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you will not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell; but you shall go to my country and to my family, and take a wife for my son Isaac.”” (Genesis 24:1-4 NKJV) Genesis 24:10-12 - The word "Success" in the verse in Hebrew is "qarah" which means "right happening". “Then the servant took ten of his master’s camels and departed, for all his master’s goods were in his hand. And he arose and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor. And he made his camels kneel down outside the city by a well of water at evening time, the time when women go out to draw water. Then he said, “O LORD God of my master Abraham, please give me success this day, and show kindness to my master Abraham.” (Genesis 24:10-12 NKJV) Ruth 2:2-3 - The world says lucky. No, it was God that placed Ruth at the right place at the right time. The word "light" is qarah. “And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean ears of corn after him in whose sight I shall find grace. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter. And she went, and came, and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on a part of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.” (Ruth 2:2-3 KJV) Genesis 24:16 - The woman was not just beautiful. She was VERY beautiful. It is not talking about spiritual beauty. It is physical beauty (to behold). God sees us as being very beautiful. God will always give the best to those who trust Him. Rebekah typifies the church. “Now the young woman was very beautiful to behold, a virgin; no man had known her. And she went down to the well, filled her pitcher, and came up.” (Genesis 24:16 NKJV) Genesis 12:14 - Sarah was not just beautiful. She was VERY beautiful. This was physical beauty too. Sarah also typifies the church. Sarah is the only woman in the Bible whose age at death is mentioned in the Bible. “So it was, when Abram came into Egypt, that the Egyptians saw the woman, that she was very beautiful.” (Genesis 12:14 NKJV) Genesis 29:17 - Leah represents the Old Covenant. There was something wrong with her eyes. She was probably cross-eyed or kept squinting due to poor vision. The name "Rachel" means "ewe lamb" (female lamb). Rachel was physically beautiful. “Leah’s eyes were delicate, but Rachel was beautiful of form and appearance.” (Genesis 29:17 NKJV) Ephesians 5:25-27 - Don't talk to your wife about her age. Don't let aging fasten onto you and her. Talk to your wife like she's the most beautiful one. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.” (Ephesians 5:25-27 NKJV) Genesis 24:20-22 - The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Godhead and He's looking and looking to see whether people would receive Jesus. "Prosperous" in the verse is the Hebrew word "tsalach" which also means prosperous. Prosperous is not just for a purpose to get something. Prosperous is a journey. Prosperity has got to do with the Holy Spirit in the house of God, the church of Jesus Christ. It is not found in the world outside. Laban was kind to the servant only after he saw the gold and jewellery. He represents the type of Christian who wants to see the benefit happen first before believing. Rebekah was kind to the servant BEFORE she saw the gold and jewellery. She believed. Are you a Rebekah or Laban type of Christian? The golden nose ring and two gold bracelets represent the gifts of the Holy Spirit. “Then she quickly emptied her pitcher into the trough, ran back to the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels. And the man, wondering at her, remained silent so as to know whether the LORD had made his journey prosperous or not. So it was, when the camels had finished drinking, that the man took a golden nose ring weighing half a shekel, and two bracelets for her wrists weighing ten shekels of gold,” (Genesis 24:20-22 NKJV) Genesis 24:40-44 - The two words "prosper" in these verses are the second and third appearance of the word "tsalach". All little children have angels protecting them, until they reach the age of accountability when death comes in. “But he said to me, ‘The LORD, before whom I walk, will send His angel with you and prosper your way; and you shall take a wife for my son from my family and from my father’s house. You will be clear from this oath when you arrive among my family; for if they will not give her to you, then you will be released from my oath.’ “And this day I came to the well and said, ‘O LORD God of my master Abraham, if You will now prosper the way in which I go, behold, I stand by the well of water; and it shall come to pass that when the virgin comes out to draw water, and I say to her, “Please give me a little water from your pitcher to drink,” and she says to me, “Drink, and I will draw for your camels also,”— let her be the woman whom the LORD has appointed for my master’s son.’” (Genesis 24:40-44 NKJV) Genesis 24:56 - "Prospered" in the verse is the fourth appearance of the word "tsalach". Laban represents carnal Christians. He is very legalistic. “And he said to them, “Do not hinder me, since the LORD has prospered my way; send me away so that I may go to my master.”” (Genesis 24:56 NKJV) Genesis 24:26-27 - This is the first mention of a man bowing his head to worship the Lord. It's not about accumulating Bible knowledge. It's about having a heart for Christ. What's the point of you having a lot of Bible knowledge but it doesn't warm your heart and produce love in you? What's the point of you having a lot of Bible knowledge but you treat your wife like a jerk? "His mercy and His truth" in Hebrew is "Hesed ve Emet" which means grace and truth - this is in the context of the church! “Then the man bowed down his head and worshiped the LORD. And he said, “Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken His mercy and His truth toward my master. As for me, being on the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master’s brethren.”” (Genesis 24:26-27 NKJV) John 19:30 - The first mention of bowing the head to worship God in the New Testament is Jesus on the cross. Jesus' last action before He died was to worship God. “So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.” (John 19:30 NKJV) John 20:11-15 - Mary Magdalene's doctrine (understanding of God's word) was bad, but her heart for Jesus is indisputable. When Mary went to the tomb expecting to find Jesus' body, she was crying. She was there when Jesus said that He would have to die and be resurrected again, but she didn't believe it. She loved Jesus so much that she was willing to carry His body alone. “But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb. And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. Then they said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.” Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?” She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, “Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.”” (John 20:11-15 NKJV) Genesis 24:61-67 - God will ensure that along your journey, you will have plenty of help. Angels will help you. It was a long journey from where Rebekah lived to where Isaac was. Every night Rebekah would probably ask the servant to tell her stories about Isaac. The Holy Spirit has a lot of stories about Jesus to tell us if we are interested to listen. "Beer Lahai Roi" means "the well of the one who sees me". How to find the right life partner: Be at the well (the house of God). For guys, meditate on God's word. The word "dismounted" means "removed". Rebekah was literally swept off her feet. She fell from the camel when she saw Isaac. The Holy Spirit would tell Jesus of all the things that He had done. Here is the second mention of love. This time it is boy-girl love. Although Israel (represented by Sarah) rejected Jesus, Jesus is comforted that He has a bride (represented by Rebekah). “Then Rebekah and her maids arose, and they rode on the camels and followed the man. So the servant took Rebekah and departed. Now Isaac came from the way of Beer Lahai Roi, for he dwelt in the South. And Isaac went out to meditate in the field in the evening; and he lifted his eyes and looked, and there, the camels were coming. Then Rebekah lifted her eyes, and when she saw Isaac she dismounted from her camel; for she had said to the servant, “Who is this man walking in the field to meet us?” The servant said, “It is my master.” So she took a veil and covered herself. And the servant told Isaac all the things that he had done. Then Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent; and he took Rebekah and she became his wife, and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.” (Genesis 24:61-67 NKJV) I hope that you have been blessed by reading this post on "19 February 2017 - See the Holy Spirit in the Book of Genesis - Pastor Joseph Prince Sermon Notes Online - New Creation Church Sermon Notes Online".
